Completely agree with the verdict. If I saw an option on a menu that was a whole chicken cooked in different styles from around the globe, I would order it with no hesitation.
It was a pretty genius idea from Mike.
@@SortedFoodi knew he would win🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
I totally be on that at a restaurant if it came like 1/2 the portion.
The idea of that was something I would definitely order as well.
right!? definitely is something many would order if it's on the menu.
Oh this was Mike's battle to win!
But I do love how when given free reign and not having consulted with the food team, the boys just go into absolute child-mode. Both Barry and Mike looked so happy just talking about their vision! Especially when Barry announced he could use all the hobs 😂 Props to Slater for helping them figure out how to flip the chicken!
And Ben judging this was incredible. I now want a video of Kush and Jamie reacting to this video.
It is a shame Kush wasn't in to offer his reaction/opinion 😂
@@SortedFood Please have Kush, Jamie, and Ben give a reaction video to this!
This was SOOOoo fun! Loved the out-of-the-box creativity of both guys. I would definitely love to be put in Ben's place at that table.
@@SortedFood Mike undercooked the chicken seeing the pink on the bone of the chicken
@@SortedFood😊@
Barry's entire dish was the embodiment of "Bring a friend. No, on second thoughts, several friends."
I'm American and had my wisdom teeth out, I can't eat solids really rn but if I could physically chew it without getting what would be my 3rd and 4th dry sockets I would absolutely decimate the entire thing in one setting (I'm a first responder and I love endurance exercise so my meals can be MASSIVE without me gaining weight)
Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was, "Bring a lot of friends." What I said was, "Bring all the friends you have." Do you understand?
Nah, I am gonna eat that alone in one sitting.
@@ConstantChaos1 first responder? So You eat like a entire family, barely sleep and Most likely enjoy yourself some dark humor
@AceOBlade pretty much but I'm also a trained chef so I eat like a fancy ass family on the cheap
Seems like the food team is the only thing holding Mike back from constantly winning
Hmm... that's an interesting thought... Even the sausage battle with the mini-ebbers was kind of genius
Sounded like AS FOOD Mike's just came out better, but as a spectacle, Barry's ambitiousness with this one absolutely deserves recognition.
mine winner is Barry. that is just like how?
Both are amazing however my Asian bias is gonna be showing cause I had similar things to what Barry made and I know how good that stuff is. Mike’s is wonderful as well but Barry’s is just amazing to eat with friends and/or family
This episode was fantastic! It ticked all the Sorted Bingo card squares too: Mike cooks chicken, Barry uses all the hobs, an extreme egg creation is born, Normal gets in over their head and a chef has to step in, etc. Hope there's many more of these!
Yeah.. Just like old times but levelled up!
Honestly, the 4 flavor chicken is the PERFECT sharing platter for groups who don't have a lot of overlapping preferences. I would absolutely order it for friends. Although I might order the giant schnitzel as a challenge!
The giant would also be a popular choice for those who don’t mind shredding the same chicken and sharing it around. I know that this one is definitely a good family dish for families happy to share their dishes with each other.
I never really thought about how risky using meat glue could be until Baz said "don't breathe in." Truly terrifying 😂
Giving us all a stark reminder that we are meat too 😂😂
Yes, I wondered about the wisdom of eating something that you're not supposed to touch or inhale!!!
@@naomiarram5187 It's safe once it's cooked
@@petertaylor4980 It makes you wonder.
Kind of like butter flavoured popcorn, which I don't eat now (mainly on principle, but it's also just a wee bit scary). And no, I'm not an alarmist, easily freaked out, conspiracy theorist, or "anti" something or other.
Stuff shouldn’t be allowed 😂 anything that can literally cause my hands to fuse together should not be available to home cooks
Slater being equally excited about flipping the enormous chicken schnitzel was adorable
Please make Ben, Jamie and Kush do a reaction video to this because that would be absolutely brilliant! 😁
Great idea 😆
@@SortedFoodplease do guys! Miss. Your reactions🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yes, I used to love when they reacted to pass it on videos and I so want to see how Jamie reacts when Barry pulls out the paella pan.
A reaction video would be a blast to watch.@@SortedFood
Yes please
9:42 The best thing about Sorted's Battles, is that no other cooking channel on the planet would say that with that monstrosity sitting on the board!😂
Baz just made a saucer of fried chicken and put a deep fried cloud of egg white on top (with a gallon of egg yolks, _in a piping bag,_ cooking in the oven,) and was just like "remarkably, things are going well!"
I thought Mike was going to deep fry the carcass and skewer everything back on 😂I want to see a chef version of this too!😆
I assumed the same
(he would have needed to bake the carcass, of course.)
Ben: "is it traditionally served with lemon because I think it nees a little..."
Barry: "no, i don't think it is"
But Barry... it *is* 😂
I’m so proud of mike killing it these last few videos
It's possible that he's storing everything up for a truly epic Huttlestorm.
I love the untested aspect of these battles. We need one with Jaime as well.
One thing I love about you guys is that everyone is so supportive of each other.
Even in competition, you guys are supportive, playful, but supportive.
I love the absolute absurdity of baz's dish seems he was so preoccupied with whether he could, he didn't stop to think if he should
Barry’s excitement as his giant “Flintstones” looking meal comes together just right and then the tasty idea Mike came up with is such fun to watch!
Hats off to Slater for stepping in so Barry didn’t wind up w/horrible burns!!! (Seriously, I was a teeensy bit worried about that!)
Always a treat to see the behind the camera talent pop in now and again.
Mike, mate. You did all that work and then you plated it like it was a headcrab from half life lmaooo
Jumping into a battle with no preparation can only end well right?!? 😂
Of course! There is no other way 😅
@@SortedFoodgo big or go home. Haha.
In a sentence I am sure I've never said before and I'm pretty sure I'll never say again, "Barry should be very proud of his frankenschnitzel."
The pronunciation of Backhendl was really good! 🎉 Thank you for showing our version of fried chicken too!
This was a FANTASTIC episode! You can tell just how much fun they were having! They had a rough idea and I honestly can't get over how good both dishes look. The giant egg looks like a giant tasty egg and who hasn't wanted many different flavors of fried chicken at once? I love videos like this were they just went with an idea. Not only that, you can tell that the normals have really learned over the years and they were able to make stunning looking food that looks fun AND delicious. Great job!
Absolutely loved this one - Barry using all the hobs would have been his dream come true. Whilst both dishes looked delicious, I would have gone for Barry's. I was waiting for the "Huddlestorm", but it never happened. Perhaps Mike was a bit more relaxed without the 'peanut gallery' adding to his anxiety levels. I agree, please do a Kush & Jamie reaction video, it would be so much fun to watch. More of these please.
Not Barry for pulling out a whole Paella pan to fry his chicken, without any doubts!
He was going IN.
@@SortedFoodYou guys are awesome 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Ultimate risotto battle. This needs to happen.
Guys! Please bring back the reactions and have Jamie, Kush and Ben all react to this! I really miss those!
Yes! It was so fun both seeing the reactions, but hearing the thoughts of competitors.
Special shout to Slater for saving the day!! Mike, I know it wasn't pretty, but I absolutely loved the idea of bringing the pieces back together. And Barry wow, coolest idea. You both came with some rocking out of left field ideas and pulled it off. Well done!
Barry’s massive schnitzel is just about the best thing he’s done in months. Brilliant
Proverb: “Go big or go home.”
SortedFood: “Go big, go ridiculous.”
100%
@@SortedFoodYou guys 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
FInally something Austrian! Your pronounciation is good enough that even the grumpiest of austrian restaurant-staff would understand your order!
my thoughts exactly! honestly surprised they never made kaiserschmarrn though
I think this video, more so than any other more recent one, shows how far you lads have come as cooks. Using meat glue? Doing four different kinds of fried chicken? Working these out (more or less) and getting these results without testing? It’s very impressive!
You know when the normals haven’t tested their battle recipes, you know you’re in for something. Something either amazing (ebbers dog), weird or so offensive it makes international headlines. 😂
You guys should do a pass it on with only chefs and add some challenge to it like changing the cuisine or adding ingredients from a mystery box to see where it ends up
Make the food team the people in the battle.
Absolutely hands-down two of the most audacious chicken dishes I've ever seen... Congrats Mike and Baz, those both looked amazing! Honestly, I would order either one of those at a restaurant. As long as I had enough friends with me to help me eat it lol
Buttermilk is spot on for Southern Fried Chicken. One day I would like to also see you brine the chicken 🐔🍗 pieces beforehand. It makes it juicier. However as you said "nice and dirty" is perfect. Soul food is the epitome of the "Smack your Mamma, Get a little South in your mouth, Dirty ❤South". This Mississippi girl is quite proud of you Mike. Not perfect, but almost there. Come on back here so we can feed you.😊❤
Smack yo mama schnitzel! Love it, been a while since I heard that phrase :)
The guys look like they have so much fun on the unplanned ones...which is good cos we have so much fun watching them do it. Many more unplanned ones please! One with Jamie would be awesome but possibly also terrifying lol
Loved both dishes. Mike's different tastes of different countries is something that I never thought about doing and it's an excellent way for all to enjoy. When Barry was cooking the chicken breasts after he put the egg whites and the yolks with the parsley, I thought he would roll the chicken and leave it rolled tightly so it stays round, then cut up the round slices and serve. It was great the way Barry did it. But because I don't trust myself in turning over the chicken breasts, I will try and do the same but rolled, with less chicken breasts. That was huge and great as well!😃 Both are great ideas that I could try doing. Thank you!🥰
We need a chef version of this, with Ben and Kush, with bonus points for going waaaay outside the box.
because I wanna see a cheffy 10lb chicken nugget.
Shoutout to Izzy who is the MVP of these videos. Also, maker of iconic moments.
Izzy doesn't miss a trick 😆
@@SortedFoodlove You guys 🎉🎉🎉🎉
They didn't have any other adult supervision, it was just Izzy!
The team chicken flip for Barry's dish was impressive. Both dishes did not look wonderful, but Mike's dish sounded more appealing in terms of flavors and he seemed to cook the chicken well.
This would of been an entirely different video just five years ago.. 😆 These both were really creative dishes and what's most important: Eatable. The boys have really evolved. Can't wait to see what's next 😁
Absolutely need more of these insane battles. Surprising Ben is the best.
Really enjoyed this one - as much as I absolutely appreciate that the normals aren't normals any more, and that Kush and the food team do an amazing job of coming up with well made and innovative things, it is nice just to see something which is a bit of a throw back to some of the funner battles of the past where things were a bit sillier and a bit more 'try it and see'.
Right. This 100% needs Jamie, Ben and Kush to react to it.
Yes we need more reaction videos since it’ll be funny to see how they’ll react to their chaotic process of making the chicken lol 😂
Barry's dish could be straight out of a GMM episode lmao!
The '4 styles Fried Chicken' is a cool idea for a friday night dinner! Sit on the sofa, put on your favorite TV show or a movie and chill
endlessly impressed by barry's idea and the fact that he executed it without a hitch!
I'm just not entirely sure I personally would ingest a substance that is toxic when touched or inhaled. But overall this was an idea for sure
@@cftyftyufyfuyfty It's not toxic, it's not a toxin, it's an enzyme that nits protein together, hence why Barry was using gloves when handling it. It's really no more dangerous than superglue, except in an unventilated space breathing it in could cause your lungs to stop working.
Once cooked, it loses all enzymatic properties and is basically inert. It's job has already been done in connecting the proteins together.
@@cftyftyufyfuyfty I mean, lots of things are unsafe for consumption before it is cooked
Please bring back bloopers! I loved those so much and these battles must have some great ones?
These are so much fun to watch, how about a steak battle? Been a while since we saw that I think.
Also, there must have been oil everywhere from flipping the schnitzel 😂
This was SO MUCH fun! I love it when the boys enjoy themselves together in the kitchen and encourage each other (even though it was a battle, I didn't get the feeling they were taking that part all that seriously). And Ben's bemused but enthusiastic judgment at the end was lovely.
Suggestion for the future: pastry battle reboot!
Love the concept of these videos. Keep it up!
Being from the southern US and worked in a fried chicken kitchen myself, Mikes seasoning seemed a bit odd. Once you add smoked paprika and chili powder it’s not the same thing, but I bet tasted great.
I couldn’t help but hear “moisturize me” from dr who when looking at Barry’s creation 😂
I thought that too, but I think he's using a Louisiana/Popeye's fried-chicken recipe and not Southern-fried-chicken recipe.
??? You're not even mentioning the worst thing about his SFC... skinless gross.
When Baz fried the egg white, I went, 'Oh God, is it cloud egg all over again.' 😅
This “Normals Unsupervised” format is a lot fun to watch. Also, second the calls for some reaction videos. Love those.
Some of my favorite videos on your channel are the "Recipe-less" ones. Its fun seeing how far you can get without a recipe.
Chefs could try things they from countries they haven't cooked from and be critiqued by chefs skilled in those regions, or more of normals cooking things fairly normal to them (but not what they normally cook/bake).
I love this and the challenge aspect is fully entertaining and I've enjoyed it eminently. Thank you guys.
Do a roasted dinner battle.
Roast Dinner Battle is a GREAT shout!
@@SortedFoodlove it guys
I agree, that's a pretty decent shout. I didn't know I wanted to see it until it arrived.
Rooting for Mike! The fried chicken conosiur!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
AMEN
This episode was amazing :D And as an austrian my heart stopped when I heard Mike is making Backhendl. One of my favourite dishes! Next time please don't put starch in the flour. You just use flour, egg (with a bit of milk) and normal breadcrumbs. No salt, no pepper. It doesn't need it! And when you're frying it swivel the pan around so that the fat goes over the top. This way it gets 'the puff'! And the puff is the most important thing in Backhendl AND Schnitzel.
Barry and Mike did an amazingly great job very impressed. I almost wish Barry used an Ostrich egg, would have love to see him and Slater flip that puppy (grin)
Barry is quantity and Mike is quality imo
Yes yes yes I’m so excited to see Barry and Mike up against each other they battle so well against each other
You guys have GOT to keep doing this format!! The chaos and creativity is a great counterbalance to the other battles where the food team has helped out more. It’s fun to watch these on the fly ideas, maybe with the team in the room helping out but not knowing about the specifics in advance. It’s fun to watch and then it’s interesting to see Ben’s reaction and explanation of which parts of the ridiculous dish worked and why.
I’d love to see James make a comeback as a judge for one of these 😅 him and ebbers next to each other at the judging table, and you just know he’d have some amazing sarcastic things to say about these kinds of results
as an Austrian I ve to say one thing - your "Backhendl" sounded nearly perfect...
I love how no one is on the sideline giving them passive aggressive energy while they cook. Which means more chaos.
You say that, but I miss the silent James stare of judgement and how it made them panic a bit whenever they looked at him.
Agreed, without anyone to dote on them their actual ideas are allowed to show
I would imagine that Slater was just shaking his head in disbelief the whole time. Kush would be throwing things at them if he was on the sidelines.
Hate kush
This was brilliant!!!! Both gents did fantastic jobs! Looks delish!
Thanks so much!
I love Adventurous Barry. There's something appealing about the "Let's go for it whether it's replicating Michelin-starred sushi, cloud eggs, the dehydrated lunch meal for a mountaineer, this or more." Adventurous Positive Barry is a win.
5:25 I did not notice the first time around, but Mike just gave an instruction that makes total sense, but I have never before heard: he suggested dirtying the oil a bit, so that all of the chicken comes out the same color. No one ever told me that, and I never thought about it on my own, but it makes perfect sense! The first things fried are always a bit lighter, because the oil is clean! 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭👍🏻
I do highly recommend people watch these at least twice. I learn something new-that I missed the first time-every time.🤗
This one was so good. Creativity, gotta go with Barry. What I thought would taste better, Mike.
Happy Sunday everyone. Friend chicken sounds so good right now. Love you guys!
I'm actually sick of chicken. With the way groceries keep going up around here, the only meat protein that is affordable is chicken, so having that 4 times a week gets old, no matter the way you use it. I want a steak lol
The pan *doing* after that joke is truly one of the sorted moments of all time. Shannon and Erdnussbuttertoast have material for years from that
Mike, I'll be honest... Whilst I can't NAME a single thing you've made that looks worse than that, I'm sure you have plenty. That chicken actually looked absolutely AMAZING in the video. Don't sell yourself short, though I'm sure the camera team did their part as well. Solid win, mate.
Barry, that was brilliant. I feel like there may have been some Jamie vibes there as well. I was worried the cook would be terrible through that, but the fact that you've nailed it is amazing.
You've both grown so much and those skills were showing full force. I think that's what I love best about these videos - they feel like some of your older ones, but now that you've all leveled up, we're getting really different and even better end results. You should revisit ten years later, too. Long live Sorted!
Brilliant! One of the best battles you've done in ages.
I really liked Barry's Fintsone's sized Chicken Schnitzel à la Holstein. Served with coleslaw & some sauerkraut that would make an excellent family/group sharing dish & bring a real WOW! to the table as it was served. I'd certainly order it.
Mike's Chicken of the World (I'd translate it to "Kokido de la mondo"which is Esperanto, as its a universal language for the world) would also be an excellent sharing dish; though maybe its been done before!? If you were a restaurant serving it you could rotate where in the world each piece comes from on a regular basis so that regulars could use it as a tasting menu for different meals?
So for once I disagree with Ben & would have put Barry in 1st place on this one, it was cleverly inventive and a real theatre piece at the table. (Wonder what Jamie would have created?)
It’s nice to see a Fried Chicken video after so long! I’m Team Mike because I believe this is his domain. So excited to see the final dishes.
Happy Sunday to SortedFood HQ and the Community!
This is the kind of unhinged creativity that comes with skill, knowledge, and education. You dinguses are legends.
The chicken Schnitzel absolutely needed lemon. A potato salad would've been a perfect accompaniment.
Also...I am Viennese and loved the nod to the veal, which would make it a "Wiener Schnitzel".
The Capers are traditional with the Holstein Schnitzel and serve the same purpose as a potato salad.
Oh this looks fun and probably disastrous😂
It could go either way TBF 😂
Can you guys do a gluten free fried foods challenge? For those like myself with gluten allergies. Great video guys!
Dear Baz, you have officially redeemed your complicated eggy history, having mastered your nemesis and made it a crowning victory! Bravo.
As a vegetarian, I will never eat any of those fried chicken. I watch Sorted mostly just for the entertainment value, you guys are always fun to watch, and that's quite an achievement. BRAVO
Let’s see how Barry adds some fancy ingredients to make it pretentious, and how Mike puts his usual Asian twist on things today…🤣🤣
Edit! Tbf, this is probably the *least* pretentious I’ve ever seen Barry!
What I like most about these briefs is that the normals now have so much experience and culinary knowledge that they can go wild and creative but without compromising on flavors
Also the pronounciation of Backhendl was really good! :D
Barry starts separating eggs. Me immediately “he’s making a freaking cloud chicken”
Next battle theme: Stacked sweets. I'm talking crepe cakes, cake cakes, croquembouche...anything sweet is game, as long as it is assembled/stuck together into a stack or pile. When paired with the unbridled imagination of the normals there is bound to be a heaping serving of delicious chaos.
MORE OF THIS! I love seeing the boys unhinged without testing with the food team. Back in the day when they were more "normal" it just meant chaos but now they have the skills to actually pull together some hilarious and creative dishes that end up working. Keep this format going please! Maybe next time have them be forced to cook like each other like Barry has to use flavor bombs and Jamie has to use pretentious ingredients or make a dessert.
Seriously, the moment Mike put the last piece of chicken into the plate, I was thinking "That, something you would see on a menu."
Imagine, when you can mix & match the flavor as a set.
That is going really fun for a night out ❤
I’ve watched Sorted for years and just recently began showing my mom episodes. She has become obsessed.
It's summer, and Ebber's been out in the sun.
Also, 'culinary engineering' is the word your looking for, and Barry earned his hard hat on this one.
"It can't get any more crazier than that, can it?" - Barry underestimating the community suggestions
As we are going into fall, i would love to see a gullash battle. Gullash is one of those dishes that is full of flavor and can vary from family to family,
FYI, my family is first generation German and we would absolutely smother than in lemon juice, yes. The capers kind of serve that purpose but lemon wedges pretty much always come with schnitzel of any kind (unless it has gravy.)
As a North-German yes you would never be served one without a slice of lemon and for good reason. Capers are good but you also might have pickles for the same reason.
Both of these were SO CREATIVE! Loved it! We really got to see them both shine!
I totally prefer untested battles, the chaos is hilarious
I prefer the variety of flavors, but absolutely love what Barry did - creative, fun, and wow. I wouldn't be able to choose a winner.
Please keep these coming! Stunning creations, chaotic kitchen time, and hilarious judging, what more could we ask for!?
I was giggling the whole time. I love to cook, but i will now always think of the fun shown here. The sidekick app has made my cooking so much easier, too. Thanks!
I love these new ones. they feel like you have gone back 5 years, and im getting the excitement i got from those old shows. love this direction.
I 100% agree with Ebbers on this. Mikes dish is absolutely menu worthy. If they sold it by half the chicken this would be incredibly popular. In fact, a mix and match place where you can pick from like 6 different ones could be a whole thing.
Barry's is also menu worthy but in the social media spectacle over all draw to a restaurant. It'd make fantastic social media posts as well as a party plate kind of thing.
That schnitzel and humongous looking egg is a piece of work. Love it 🤣
Yolk sauce is my FAVORITE. I sous vide it in a glass jar and drizzle/spread it over everything from buttered toast to salad for yolky goodness.
