This is what spiritual abuse looks like.

  • Ed's 4 hour long church service which this clip came from. The clip I used starts at 30 minutes in. - • PROPHETIC MIRROR SERVI...
You may think I've picked the worst example of Ed's behavior but I really haven't. Ed can be seen doing all manner of far stranger and more extreme things in other videos. I chose this example to offer an analysis of how to identify this kind of spiritual abuse in an effort to help people caught up in it to do two things. First, to get out from under the control of dangerous leaders. Second, to realize that those bad leaders do not represent true Christianity so that people who've been burned by them won't turn away from Christ, the perfectly humble leader, as a result.
I've got over 600 videos helping you learn to think biblically about everything and I promise not to make up stuff about your family tree. My website BibleThinker.org

I saw him in Toronto, and he asked me if I wanted a word and I said "Yeah", I guess I wasn't hyped and excited enough like everyone else. So he kissed his teeth and said "Ugh you're not serious" and fanned me off. Immediately after a lady tapped me and said "You have to yell and scream and be very excited for him to share a word with you." That was the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I get a word every moment I open my bible! GOODBYE!

His maternal grandmother was a high priestess in the Caribbean occult called Santaria. Exposed to the spirits from early childhood. He has deep roots and needs deliverance. He puts on the charm, tries to control people, says horrible accusations. This narcissism, spiritual abuse and self-aggrandizing top the ranks of murderous men, corporate heads and televangelists.

It's because they're not reading their Bibles!
All one needs to do is READ HEBREWS!
_“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, _*_but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,_*_ whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”_
      ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭ESV‬‬
As a former new-ager, these "peacocks" are like "psychics," and are far from what a real contemporary prophet should look like today: simply pastors/preachers who preach Christ/the Word of God/Scripture/the Bible.
      *That's it!*
All that "P" alliteration helps to remember this easy discernment of someone who claims they "have a world from the Lord for you," and why I can call myself a cessationist while _also_ believing in prophecy.
Because the "prophecy" I believe in is the Word of God, not this extra-biblical garbage.

Many of them can't tell it's spiritual abuse because most of them are looking for their own benefice not God's I use to follow somelike that and my soul didn't sit well with it because he was always preaching the prosperity Gospel, you are God God will give etc. What really made me say that he is quate is that I ask God for discernment because I'm not in the prosperity Gospel and God just show how violent, unrestrained, always blaming others, lifting himself us by faking and trying to make you believe he is lifting God and every time he was preaching I will test the spirit and one more thing is that he will block people putting bad comments on his page and who were telling him to repent and he will say I can have many wives Solomon had many wives forgetting that we are leaving by grace not in the law and he will add when I gave my life to Christ he didn't convert every part of my body So when I see a beautiful woman I will fall. His poor wife God beat by him and died for nothing in the end today he lives free and with no guilt

@ladawg81 Thanks, Idawg81, but I'm already there. This was 30 years ago. I've been through the whole abuse thing and came out of it stronger. Part of the issue back then was that I was a novice Christian and didn't really know better. This sort of thing was on the edges of the Charismatic Movement, but it was where I was at while I assimilated what the Bible was saying. The whole 'slain in the Spirit' thing was common practice but I never found justification for it in the Bible and that is where my disillusionment with it started. Demon possession was also popular... and while there is Biblical precedent, what I saw almost never matched up the with Bible depictions. Thankfully as well as these mad actions, there were plenty of good teachers who taught the truth and I began to discern lots of bad things that happened in the name of 'God'.

I left a church that wore the pretense of being so "spiritual" and in touch with God. And yet, the pastor deliberately and knowingly made every effort to avoid contact with me, one on one when the opportunity presented itself for him to "love not in word only, but in deed and truth" by engaging me in simple, friendly conversation for a few moments. In those moments following the rejection,, God spoke to my heart and said "you are always welcome in My house" when I was alone and hurting as I sat in my vehicle on the church parking lot, in the process of leaving the worship service.
It just shows me the falseness and hypocrisy of so called spiritual people. Not all, but some.

As a teenager growing up in a West African church, we have naturally been conditioned to believe that we are sinning or either going to hell when we challenge a “man of God.” They always use the statement from the Bible, “touch not my anointed” as a shadow of their deceit. I can understand how intimidated Amoa is and most likely, I would have been also, despite my knowledge of the word. This is why I’m skeptical of going to churches that are prophetic based.SMH!!!!

My sister and I used to be part of a church like this and I can tell it's spiritual abuse just as you said. I was visiting and my sister was a full time member so she was abused more. We were made to believe that serving the pastor and his appointed shepherds was serving Jesus. The pastor would talk about his church in every sermon and how it was a good Godly family and that serving in his church and obeying the leaders would please God, but it was all to get the members to be hooked to the church and also willingly sew seeds. He made serving and please God look and feel easy, cause all you had to do was channel all your admiration, honour, faith and every good thing you had to give God for you being an awesome God, through him. He was very charismatic and would frequently guilt trip everyone into submission, talking about how he had helped many people and making his "appointed shepherds" and some of the old church members talk about what he had done for them during service. His messages were repeated over and over again and he would again guilt trip everyone into listening to his sermons daily. If you were able to quote him or repeat the things he said in his sermons, he would be impressed and everyone was trying to impress him, because that was all part of serving God apparently. Marrying out side of the church was basically illegal and he along with his appointed shepherds would control the dating scene in the church, pairing up whoever they felt would go together and if you didn't like the person you were paired with, well you were going against the will of God for your life. So many of the couples in the church clearly didn't love each other and the one couple that was genuine didn't get married because the pastor told them to. They were basically the devils in that church since their relationship clearly proved that the pastor didn't know best and wasn't really hearing from God when it came to relationships..well and basically everything else. Every sermon was some kind of damage control tool to silence members who had figured him out and to patch up the non-existent relationship between those he had put together. He would even talk about members personal issues(even their sex lives (and yes he knew that much. All couples were to report everything that happens in their lives to him.) through out sermons for some reason. He Frequently cheated on his wife with the church members, took luxurious trips with his shepherds and assistant pastors in the name of looking for a venue for a couples retreat, and did many other shady things all in the name of God. I felt quite stupid for following him and believing that he was a genuine man of God. But I've learned my lesson. Anytime I come across a man of God talking about himself more than about Jesus, my red flags go up. I'm not falling for that nonsense again and neither is my sister. She was abused more because she was a full time member and actually served in the church, but now she goes to a much better church where the pastor is always pointing to Jesus. I follow the new pastors ministry and I've noticed that after listening to his sermons all I think about is Jesus. Not the pastor and not the church.

Don't think this happens in pentecostal type churches. Anytime we give a man too much power , corruption steps in. My husband and I have been watching a very slow downward progression, as the church members are becoming enslaved to the pastor instead of servants of Jesus Christ. We now have a "professional development " class which deacons and leaders are expected to attend. Return on investment is what now drives their decisions. Ordinary people are ignored. My husband and I step in quietly to meet the needs. We try to ignore the nonsense, but the reality is at some point we will need to leave. There are lots of messages about serving the Lord, but very few on witnessing. Lots on stewardship-but no other ministry is reputable and the tithe only belongs to the local church. This is how we are able to raise $ 40,000 to send the pastor on the trip of his dreams- a tour of England to advance his on the side business promoting the KJV. This just a few months after raising tens of thousands for a fesibility study, which anyone with half a brain could see, wouldn't work. My husband respects the pastor for his role and the help he has been to us over the years, but he''s made it quite clear that he serves the LORD not church leadership.

    • @charissa6648
      @charissa6648 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

Respectfully, I don't believe this is biblically accurate, especially in Christ; women are not More easily deceived, rather Eve was deceived. Jesus said we have the same Spirit, and there is no male or female in Christ. When the Lord speaks about the weaker vessel, He is speaking physically.
Women were created for the glory of man.
Furthermore, Eve was not commanded by God directly, but through Adam, therefore it would make perfect sense that Satan went to Eve to deceive her. Especially because Adam and Eve were perfect up until that point, and did not have a sin nature. It's important to note that Adam was next to Eve at some point when she disobeyed. She made a decision apart from her husband, which is probably a more accurate depiction of our female nature and rebellion. They were one and in perfect fellowship as God designed.
I think we often try to reason why women should not lead men when the answer is very simple; God made a Patriarchy, an order to His Creation. Women are not to lead men because they are not the head; not because women are more easily deceived or intellectually inferior because that would disqualify women from leading other women and would make Pauls discipleship of other women in vain!
We are comparable to Christ and the Father when Jesus walked the earth. Just because Jesus could doesn't mean He acted through His divinity rather He submitted Himself completely to the Father because they were always in perfect union.
Jesus was always God and never set aside His divinity, but He humbled Himself when He became a man and did as the Father directed Him; and it was not because He wasn't capable. He completely relied upon the Father by choice.
Jesus created this order in the garden and that's just the way it is. I think that is a dangerous generalization and puts the emphasis on mankind rather than Christ.
Jesus says man is the head of woman, because that's how He created us; a husband is the head of his wife.
It also leaves room for abusive control and spiritual abuse; making women believe they are incomplete in Christ without a man. What about widows? Those who will not marry?
Women are the weaker vessel in the flesh and more prone to emotionality, but that does not equate women being intellectually inferior. I know many women who are rational and self controlled more than the average person by nature, how God created their personalities, therefore in Christ they display such an almost impossible fruit of the Spirit. It's a sight to witness.
This sort of belief just defies the gospel and makes man the mediator rather than Christ.
Also Human behavior is not measured this way, and scripture does not state that women are more easily deceived, rather women are more prone to make decisions apart from the head; independence.
Maybe I am missing something, and I would be happy to receive correction. I just do not see this in scripture rather in fundamentalism.

So I just came from a Ed Citronneli ministry service in Arlington, Tx. I left in tears and I’m literally in tears listening and seeing your video. My husband and I have been praying that God would lead us to a diverse, small, Christ filled church, focused on the teaching of the gospel, and one we can call our home and church family. We went there to see if this was the one God would lead us to. It is not!! I can’t tell you how disappointed and heartbroken I am to see such a lost group of people. We spent over an hour at more of a concert type atmosphere, standing the entire time. We kept waiting for Gods word to be preached, and after an hour of bright colorful lights, band playing, people dancing, singing, still no opening Bibles to worship God through His word! I saw us all hearded in like cattle to our seats. I witnessed one usher being rude to an elderly lady with a walker, telling her she couldn’t sit up close to the front. They made her sit on the back row. One usher asked my husband “are you a man of God?” When he said yes, she sat us on the front row. We waited as long as we could to see if the singing would stop and the preaching would begin, and when we started going into the second hour of band playing, singing, flashy strobe lights, it was obvious to us, this is NOT a Christ filled, God humbling, reverence worshipping, gospel teaching church we hoped for. We walked out and have no plans on returning!! We pray for every lost soul who supports this ministry. Christ, and only Christ, is what brings true salvation of our souls. If you do not have a PERSONAL relationship with Christ, then you are a lost soul!!

My mama was raised in a Pentecostal church, my daddy was raised in the Baptist faith. He insisted we all go to a Baptist church, so we only went to the pentecostal church a few times when my granny would invite us. All i remember is being a little kid and me and my cousin sitting there and everyone in the church was standing and crying loudly and a couple were even talking funny. So me and my cousin were only about 6/7 yrs old and i looked at her and whispered "why are we the only ones not crying?" And we giggled . We couldn't understand this. I was never afraid of any of it, because the people there truly were the nicest people and they believed in helping each other and others. And i loved my granny of course. But, i stuck with my baptist church more because it always felt like that. It felt really awkward being the only one not yelling, crying, etc. Now I'm sort of non denominational i guess, since idk where i really fit in. But still saved and still know Jesus saved me.

It can also be much more subtle. I grew up with fire and brimstone style preaching in a pentecostal AOG church. I was exposed to harmful spiritual preaching and attitudes starting at age 7. It destroyed my childhood and almost destroyed me.
I ended up in a nondenominational charismatic church that also turned out to be harmful. The harm really started for me when they brought in inner healing ministries like Elijah House, then Restoring The Foundations (RTF). It took my faith off of Christ's finished work and put my eyes on the work of dealing with the roots of sin in my life and self effort, etc. It took me to a very dark and horrible place with almost deadly physical consequences and great harm to relationships. It's God's mercy that I haven't lost everything, the least of which is my job.
I'm still struggling with the consequences today, praying and struggling for deliverance. Last I heard from this church that I stopped going to 5 years ago was them emailing me, asking for a financial commitment to their building campaign.

@@samchs222 no, Fredericksburg assemblies of God in VA. I guess in part it depends on the preacher and local congregation.
Our old pastor was prideful and I think a bit self righteous too.
He also taught the damnable doctrine of "no such thing as once saved, always saved" which he repeated frequently enough along with warning about backsliding.
He also set himself up as an untouchable "man of God", telling how several banking individuals involved with granting the church a building loan working suffered severe consequences as punishment from God when they changed their minds on allowing the loan to go through. He also had the nice back story of how his mother promised to give God a preacher if He would allow her to conceive and give her a son. Of course the pastor rebelled in his young adulthood until "God got ahold of him".
They also practiced supposed "speaking in tongues" and interpretation which I now doubt had anything to with God. He didn't bestow much grace either.
So at a young age I began fearing going to hell because God would send me there if I messed up and sinned and happened to die before repenting. That turned into constantly praying for forgiveness, then other OCD behavior, anxiousness and depression, setting the stage for a wretched, lonely, dark childhood.
It took God 2 decades to walk me out of that, then I became ensnared with the false teaching of the inner healing ministries at the charismatic church of my adult years.

@@chris2790 I see. I believe in the gifts of the spirit. I believe that we have our heavenly father - God the Creator and His Son Jesus Christ and the holy Spirit that Jesus promised to be with us and live in us after he ascends to heaven.
Pastors are not perfect and it's interesting that some may claim to be untouchable. This seems to be getting more common in Pentecostal circles. Nonetheless, God works with us based on our knowledge. Both can be true that he is not perfect person but God still uses him and his doctrine were not 100% correct.
However, "once save always saved doctrine" is usually preached that you can commit sin which to ordinary person means live in sin and still be saved. No once saved, you should live as saved and if you fall into sin, ask God for forgiveness. If not, you are not exercising your redemption rights and you will get an outcome equal to never saved.

I quickly dismissed what you were saying and counted it as persecution against a man of God. It’s incredible how perspectives change. I am watching it now and am no longer a part of his church. I was so blinded and deceived. And yes. A LOT of spiritual abuse happens in that church. Every service there is someone who is embarrassed by him in front of the whole congregation. It’s disgusting how he allows people to put money on his feet for a prophecy and kneel before him. And yes, people are conditioned to go along with acting all excited, jump, shout and to stand up every time the “prophet” walks by you because you have to honor him. But anyways, everything you’re saying is spot on. Thank you for what you do.

But then I started actually reading my Bible!
If only more Christians just faithfully read scripture and prayed for wisdom, they too would discover freedom out of these false churches!
All that "P" alliteration helps to remember this easy discernment of someone who claims they "have a word from the Lord for you," and why I can call myself a cessationist while _also_ believing in prophecy.
Because the "prophecy" I believe in is the Word of God, not this extra-biblical garbage.

These are usually talking points for Nigerian “Pastors” trying to break you from “generational curses”. They usually take ideas from the practices of the Yoruba religion.
He could have easily guessed he was from Ghana. I’m not Ghanian, but grew up around a lot of Ghanaians that I can tell a Ghanian name from a mile away. Using that as some sort of prophetic moment is truly just pathetic.
This is type of rubbish is so rampant in Nigeria now, it’s puzzling. Most Nigerian “churches” preach the prosperity gospel and spread the word of faith movement and very few actually preach the true gospel. It is the “mainstream” gospel and people who hold to true Orthodox Christianity and its doctrines, are seen as being “Holier than Thou” and they will quote “touch not the Lord’s anointed” to them more times than you can count.
