agree the body style of 2018 is much better than 2019. It would be nice if Toyota would put a V6 engine in the RAV4. The 2.5L i4 engine is not powerful enough, lacks oomph! like the Tortoise and the Hare (a sitting duck). 2019 not any better regarding acceleration. avoid driving in the Rocky Mountains as it is the Little Engine that Couldn't.
I finally upgraded from my 2002 Toyota Highlander to a 2018 Rav4 XLE and I love this mid size SUV that uses regular gas, has great 360 degree visibility, uses Toyota Safety Sense with anti collision auto braking, rear traffic warnings, a backup camera, and other great features. The cargo space is fantastic and the rear seating is spacious and comfortable. I also prefer the aerodynamic less aggressive body styling of the 2018 compared to the newer models.
The RAV4 is a good example of the current market trends of Crossovers. Its reliability, amenities, practicality and styling is all good. The Rogue is more practical in terms of seating and cargo capacity but nothing beats a Toyota. Great review Nolan, keep it up!
I tested a 2018 XLE 4WD (in May 2022) and found it to be very heavy and sluggish compared to other 4WDs I’ve driven over the years. Found it unsettling because I didn’t know whether it was intentional or not and I need to accelerate quickly to merge on the highway. So I’m glad you mentioned the heaviness!!!
When we went to the toyota dealer to look at this with my grandmother after we looked at the kia sportage, I was sure the sportage had a better interior. I was absolutely WRONG! This has a really nice interior, and the softex leather is a really nice soft synthetic leather and has a very nice gray color. We loved the hybrid limited fuel efficiency and quietness. The red ruby pearl color was amazing! My grandmother said she hated red, but when she saw this, it was love at first sight! She ended up buying it to trade her 08 camry in, which was in great condition but had an oil consumption issue like all of the 2.4 L toyotas did at the time.
That’s awesome to hear! I’m also a big fan of the Softex...great feeling, soft and no maintenance required like leather. Thanks for sharing that and I hope your grandmother enjoys it!
we just bought an XLE... not quite as fancy as this one... after living with it for a week....a solid machine...glad we own it... I expect to get a whole bunch of miles on it...had 430 k on my 04 accord... this will do the same I bet.. easily!
That’s great to hear! Can’t go wrong with the Rav4 and I wouldn’t doubt that you can get a bunch of reliable miles on it too. Thanks for sharing and I hope you continue to enjoy it!
I have an '02 RAV4 with 199,650 miles, had it since new. I'm looking at another either 2017 or 18 XLE. Thanks for this review. To help quiet the interior noise close the sunroof cover.
I really want to spend a day and use dynomat or some 3m sound and are in line all the interior doors and back hatch panels. It’s not bad sound wise, I think part of the issue is the motor just Doesn’t sound as pleasing as it could. I also have a 99 accord And I swear it’s four-cylinder noises are a lot more pleasant
Ahh thank you so much!! That really means a lot to me. I put quite a bit of time into it and have yet to be “reviewed for monetization” from TH-cam. That’s not why I started doing it but will be nice :). I actually will start getting Press cars soon too! So I’ll be able to spend a whole week with the vehicle and really get a good honest feel for it. Mazda3 will be delivered soon!
Great review, pretty spot-on imo. I'm an owner of the 18 Limited. I am very happy with the vehicle, but I would have to agree about the power I think it's popularity would've been much better with ten or more horsepower. I understand that this has been fixed with the new model, but while I do like some aspects of the new gen, it's not enough for me to trade my current one for it.
Thank you! Very cool, it’s always nice to hear from an owner. That Limited trim is quite nice too. It’ll be interesting to see how things play out with the new one but I’m sure it’ll remain a top seller like your model. Thanks for the input and for watching! Enjoy your Rav 👍
You're welcome and I have no doubt that it'll be a top seller myself. If I were in the market for a new car, it would definitely be at the top of my list, especially since I think it takes a lot of it's cues as far as its looks from the 4Runner, which is another truck I think is very attractive, but is a little to tall for my stature, being 5'1 and disabled. Lol! It's enough for me to climb into the Rav at the height it is.
I agree! For sure, I was happy to see them takencurs from the 4Runner and I think I see some Tacoma in the front end too. Can’t go wrong with those. Lol well the Rav4 is perfect then!
Not a fan of 2019 and 2020 model that's why simple but attractive design for me in 2018 model, the design of rav 4 now are like 4 runner which is good but not attractive for me.
I honestly can’t remember how the audio was on this one...I know the JBL in some of the models sounds nice and full. Sorry bout that. It does have a pretty good view of the road with good visibility. The hood is slanted down and not an issue for that. I didn’t have a lot of time to drive this, but I drive a last generation Camry with the same engine/transmission as this Rav4 and it usually gets better than projected MPG both city and highway
I had a 2018 RAV4 Limited AWD with odometer of less than 5k. Unfortunately, there are numerous issues/problems with it. Poor gas mileage as in 14.2mpg. All seats are uncomfortable except for the Driver seat. Getting in the Front Passenger seat is terrible so expect to hit your head to lower your head to get in, next is the protruded dashboard as it prevents your left leg and knee to have room. Road and Wind noise is above decibels and not average. 2.5 I-4 engine WHINE. Lacks horse power so do not expect to pass anyone, has difficult time traveling speeds above 70mph. Acceleration from Stop is very slow. Stock OEM tires TOYO Open Country A20 tires are the worse. On dirt, bumpy, wavy, and uneven roads the RAV4 sways and bounces. Brakes are okay, but get a squeal now and then. Brakes are not the best. Rear window is small and narrow makes backing up harder, don't rely on the rear camera to give you clarity as visibility can be poor. Entune Premium Audio w. Navigation heard better audio from a 1990's car also the Dynamic / Integrated Nav system is Par. The interior is full of cheap plastic. SofTex seat material is okay, still prefer real Leather. Could use more LED lighting for Door Panel switches. Lack of installing Heads Up Display. Headlights inadequate for peripheral vision as not wide angle. Cheap plastic feel sun visors. Sensors don't function well as take too long to warn you, they are sense delayed so you can get into an accident. Just tell everyone to go buy a Honda CR-V as the RAV4 is junk. I did not want anyone to drive my 2018 RAV4 cause it was very unsafe so I donated the RAV4 to a Demolition Derby. Bye Bye $32,000 piece of junk. It was awesome as the TOYO tires blew and all the Plastic Body and interior Plastic shattered all over.
You wont want a cr-v, least not one with the 1.5t engine. Just got rid of my '17 cr-v as i was NOT going to put up with Honda Corp's BS over trying to do a patch fix. The 1.5t's are suffrering from oil dilution due to gas getting into the oil. The first recall was in China, however its not clear if its true their government has put a ban on Honda selling any more vehicles with the 1.5t. Honda is currently claiming they are workinig on cars in canada and the states will be next. There are several class actions lawsuits proceeding, but in talking to one attorney he pointed out what i already knew, these suits can sometimes take decades to settle, expecially with Honda resisting.Lots of vids on u-tube about this and also on the net.

VelezBiH same here. I would expect them to offer more than ever considering the competition. That information should be coming out soon too. Can’t wait
You live in Texas, maybe you don't need a AWD SUV but a big truck. I just bought a 2018 Rav4 LE and fall in love with it (I live in Washington State). What's the difference between each trim (LE, XLE, Limited, ...) - headlight type, interior configuration, GPS, ...if you have review about each trim. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching! Funny thing is...I don’t have an AWD SUV or a truck lol. I used to have a truck but not anymore. Glad to hear it about your Rav4! The further up in trims, the more features. Once you get to SE/Limited there’s sifted seats and led headlights...among others. I don’t have comparisons of the ‘18 models but here’s a comparison of 2019 trims: th-cam.com/video/I4PclfKQ4Is/w-d-xo.html
I beg to differ. Its the perception of general public when they look at a Toyota. But the truth is they are neither cheap nor affordable. A new car is priced just like every other vehicle in the segment and don't ask me about used toyotas. I say its an uncomplicated & bullet proof machine.

my 2018 RAV4 Limited AWD had a noisy engine and bounces and sways a lot. Paid about $32,800 new. After 6 months and only driving in the City (Buffalo, NY) traveled 1,606 miles and 9 refills gets average 15.8mpg which is much less than the average 22 mpg City that Toyota rates. Horrible Toyo Open Country A20 tires, replaced with Continental Cross Contact LX after 2 months. Headlights are off angle resulting in poor vision at night, poor rear view and the rear window is small. Rear seats are very uncomfortable, lacks front passenger seat adjustment as it sits up too high and people hit the heads getting in. Poor acceleration from traffic light or stop sign. The protrusion of the dashboard is very inconvenient for front passenger leg space. Don't buy a Toyota, you'll regret it. I donated my 2018 RAV4 for Demolition Derby in 2019 as no one should be allowed to drive such a horribly manufactured vehicle. It was not an option to resell as to endanger another person. Toyota should recall all their vehicles for salvage. I now drive a 2019 Audi Q7 cost like $55,000.

Another great review
Hikmat Ullah thanks again, means a lot!
Good review, thanks. Waiting for mine to be delivered tomorrow.
That’s awesome!
Own a 2014 Rav4 Limited with every option for 2014. Now 5 years old, 60k miles, and its owners are quite happy with it.
That’s fantastic to hear!
I own a 2018. Feels sturdy
Do you recommend this year? Any specific problem?
It looks amazing better then the 2019.
Exactly, I'm gonna miss the 2018 Model...
Ur crazy
agree the body style of 2018 is much better than 2019. It would be nice if Toyota would put a V6 engine in the RAV4. much better looking
Agree, much 2015-2018 is much better looking.
I also prefer the aerodynamic less aggressive body styling of the 2018 compared to the newer models.
same, i just got the 2018 and I like the softer front end design
The RAV4 is a good example of the current market trends of Crossovers. Its reliability, amenities, practicality and styling is all good. The Rogue is more practical in terms of seating and cargo capacity but nothing beats a Toyota. Great review Nolan, keep it up!
I agree! Similar to other Toyotas it offers what you need and does a lot well. I’m hoping to review a Rogue soon!
I got the XLE from my daughter for a Birthday gift and I love it.
When we went to the toyota dealer to look at this with my grandmother after we looked at the kia sportage, I was sure the sportage had a better interior. I was absolutely WRONG! Wow! That’s a lot of miles! Thats awesome
I picked up the exact same model/color used here in Canada - the paint color gets lots of compliments. Upgraded from my 2012 Rav4
I just bought the 2019 rav4. I’m so happy! I love it! My 4th Toyota! Her name is “Raven”!
Any issues in the last 2 years?
My 2018 adventure I named Luanne
Great review, picked up my XLE yesterday. I'm a Honda fan, but the XLE came with a better package than the CRV.
Very nice! I wish you good luck with it and hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching!
Same but mine is a se, I like the crv but didn’t want a turbo or cvt trans.
Exactly
2018 RAV4 is better looking than 2019 RAV4
Hope Toyota returns to the 2018 RAV4 look in 2020. That grille in 2019 looks horrible.
BB Cute they won’t
no way
I think it looks pretty slick. I like the upswept front.
Acceptable and great service history says a very nice ride for twenty years ,
I've had my 2001 and know this.
Nice text drive. I have the LE AWD 2017 model. So l love to see more videos, thanks
This is a very thorough review. Great job!
I have an '02 RAV4 with 199,650 miles, had it since new. I'm looking at another either 2017 or 18 XLE. Thanks for this review.
To help quiet the interior noise close the sunroof cover.

Every Rav4 does" NOT" have moon roof as you said.
I watch a lot of reviews, and I appreciate this channel. Better all the time, which is the point. Kaizen.
Also: thanks for the remote mic. It sounds better than most videos I've seen.
Ahh thank you so much!! That really means a lot to me. I put quite a bit of time into it and have yet to be “reviewed for monetization” from TH-cam. That’s not why I started doing it but will be nice :).

Excellent. The Drive Shop guys are cool if that's where you get them from.
Haha yes that’s who’s bringing it out, I’m excited for it. They seem like good people to work with
I tweeted review out. Good luck.
Not every model has a sunroof (the LE does not) and there is some storage in front of the spare tire and behind the back seats that you missed!

You do nice reviews...ignore the hateful comments from others
Thank you very much! I usually don’t think anything about something like that...Thanks again and I appreciate your support!
Prime Autotainment you are very welcome...your reviews give useful no nonsense information and appreciate your straightforward reporting style...
Thanks again. I wanna keep it straight forward and improve every chance I can
Can't wait to see more of the 2019 model. This past generation was not my fave. As usual, good review and keep up the great work!
Thank you! I agree...this one is kinda bland. Definitely excited for the 2019 Rav4 and I’ll try to get my hands on it as soon as I can
Not a fan of 2019 and 2020 model that's why simple but attractive design for me in 2018 model, the design of rav 4 now are like 4 runner which is good but not attractive for me.
Great review. Mine should be here in a couple of days.
Thank you! That’s awesome, hope you enjoy it! 👍
you can unbuckle that middle seat belt. there's a little red button in the clasp I pushed in with something small
you did a great job with the video, thanks a lot!!
Teenah A thank you very much! Glad you liked it 😁
bro the front of the car is a beast
Anyone know if this engine (normally aspirated, NOT turbo) is port-injected (to keep the back of the valves clean over the years) ?
Yes it has port-injection, thankfully. Even the newest version of the RAV4 has Direct AND Port injection, so they're keeping the port injection around
I have a RAV4,and I love it
Cool video.
Thank you!
How is the audio system in this thing? Does it have a demanding view of the road once it sits higher? Good fuel econ?

I averaged 33 mpg doing 75mph for 2 hours
I have the 2018fwd
Love your videos
Thank you very much!
Can you please do Honda CR-V review
I have one on the 2018 CR-V EX-L trim, but didn’t drive it. I might be able to get a 2019 video up later this year!

very helpful , Thanks
Glad to hear it. Thanks for watching 👍
My dream car 😍😍😍
Does all XLV have heated mirror?
Does this have front camera
2:50 73.4 ft^3? If i’m right, that’s bigger than this year’s. why the retrogression tho, toyota?
Is this good for road trip from California to New Mexico?
Its a Toyota...of course
My mom has one like that the same color same rims
Please tell me which is the best xle or se?
I like the SE because it has the heated Softex seats and LED headlights but that’s up to you!
I will wait for 2019 refresh Rav4. I did not like current gen exterior/interior design.
It looks like the 2019 will be a big step up in every way
Prime Autotainment yes I am wondering what the price and option will be on lower Trims.

My 2020 has beaten my turbocharger vehicles.
Omg 😱
👍
👍😁
i have it
I hate the hood/snout on this one. 2019s look waaaaay better. I wish these didn’t look like this because I’m shopping for something about a year old.
Same here! I was excited to see the changes made for 2019. That’s a bummer...maybe wait a year or are you considering anything else?
Yes the Nissan Rogue or Chevy Equinox. I also like the Murano.
Cool! Good luck with your decision!

when a reviewer doesn't know what his doing this video is a perfect sample!
I’d like to see you try
It’s cheap and affordable... that’s it lol
And you’re right lol
not compared to competition like the rouge
I beg to differ. Its the perception of general public when they look at a Toyota. But the truth is they are neither cheap nor affordable. A new car is priced just like every other vehicle in the segment and don't ask me about used toyotas. I say its an uncomplicated & bullet proof machine.
UNBUCKLE THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT

my 2018 RAV4 Limited AWD had a noisy engine and bounces and sways a lot.
You must work for Audi.
