I need help here.....do you like the 2018 RAV4 better or do you like the all-new 2019 RAV4 better? You decide the winner of this battle in the comments section!! Jeff
Jeff, The choice is obvious, the 2019 RAV4 Hybrid with more power and 10mpg extra at a minimal premium in price is the clear winner - OOPS - you won't be selling them until next Spring. ;)
Lol this car are not good for Winter here in Canada .. unlike Subaru Forester .. its super in Snow.. if its good for winter road then they should bring to canada this time for its snow time... lol...
I traded a 13 for the 19 adventure model. To me the back seat seems smaller and I'm the same size as you. My only complaints are the cupholders are where my elbow rests so a water bottle will get in the way. Also the power window buttons are mid forearm on the door making it awkward for rolling down the window quickly
I hate the way the 2019 looks on the outside, and the 2018 is better both ways, especially on the interior on my god I don't want some big stupid ass tablet in my face, 2 year olds started te design cars after in 2019 that's why I still have my 18. :P
My 2018 RAV-4 XLE is paid-off and has 18K miles. It was also about $1K - $2K less than the 2019. Sure, the 2019 has some more advanced features, but I'll take the 2018!
Still to my eyes the 2018 looks much more cohesive, more calm and overall classier the way a toyota should be. The 2019 is like its pressed from the top and bulged from four sides. Also ground clearance is said to be improved but from what I see here its the otherwise.
2018 only because I needed a car and also the 2018 has a history of reliability and Toyota was offering $3000 cash back around black-Friday time period.
2019- More safety features, more auto-pilot, back seat reclines, more gas mileage (41 mpg in hybrid), more higher clearance. I also like the raised screen- I don't have to look down to look at map or whatever when driving. Lastly, 2019 looks better!
Ocean Medical Clinic totally agree with you, 2019 looks superb. Some people on the comment# below are going for the 2018 I don’t no what they are seeing. But anyways if I’m not mistaken I think Toyota have copied the 2006 JEEP design on the 2019 model.
The RAV4 was always a great car, and a super-smart choice. For me, the old styling was lacking both inside and out, and the new 2019 knocked it out of the park. Now, I really want one -the Hybrid version!
the 2018 looks the best. they could have just added the new features without turning it into a tank. that's what i liked about the 2016-2018 design. it looked like a mini suv. i mean i always wanted a range rover, but i never saw that as a rav4 design. i just personally dont like it
I just bought a 2019 Limited to replace a 2017 Platinum and I love the 2019. The layout and feel of the 2019 is just better all around. The seats are wider and more comfortable and can be heated or cooled. I love the layout of the console, the shifter has a better feel to it and the automatic parking brake is a plus. Cruise control has been shifted to the steering wheel and the push button start has been moved farther away from the heating/cooling off button which I find safer. I usually trade every 2 years but I may keep this one a while longer.
I vote for the 2020 or 2021. That would be the time Toyota would be smart enough to put an insulation under the new Rav4s hood. Kill that engine noise !

Great review. Don’t like the obtrusive info screen on the 2019 model. Unfortunately most car companies seem to be in love with not integrating the screens into the dash.
Hi Maite! Thanks for writing! I hope you subscribe and become part of my channel and comment whenever you like! That would be super cool if you can get a new car. Let me know if I can give you any advice/etc. Jeff
Have a 2018. It does have a blind spot monitor. Only thing I'd really want from 2019 is digital speed readout. I do not like the 2019 entertainment screen--looks like an afterthought 9added on.
Terry I was thinking the same. I have a 2018 model and it has the blind spot monitor. Great vehicle with 1 small problem for me the lane change without signalling. Omg almost had several wrecks. The option to turn it off was great. Proud 2018 owner.
Like the 2018 overall a little more. Hate the new screen position, the huge knobs that stick out for the climate control, the shifter being more to the right, and the electronic parking brake. For the exterior, I don't like the front and rear being 'more square' - any little bump will ruin the grill / hood or trunk door.
Clarification: 2018 rear seats have multi stage reclining reclining. 2019 rear seats have 2 angles besides folding all the way down. One is straighter one slightly more reclined. Maybe 80 and 75 degrees, respectively.
I love the 2018 ! But then again I bought one last year ! ;) I like the front grill on the 2018 much better and the doors are smooth not indented for looks like the 2019. 2018 4th Gen design is nicer and the last of its build. The new 2019 redesign is just a prototype to whats to come and looks like a highlander. If I wanted a highlander I would buy that instead.
The 2019 RAV4 looks great with those double exhaust pipes. It's a welcome change for sure. The boxey front profile gives it a more masculine look. I love the bigger grille at the front; it's definitely more pronounced and looks aggressively stylish and sporty. Also, I love the new gear shifter as opposed to the 2018 shifter. The old shifter looks too flimsy and lacks that much needed rugged appearance that is now present. The raised Infotainment screen looks great as well as the whole dash layout. Very Mazda cx5/Cx9 like interior looking. Although not quite as elegant and upscale as the Mazda; however, it's a step in the right direction. If you ask me, I choose the 2019 RAV4 over last year's model.
The 2019 is 33 where I live. The salesmen even laughed about it and said that's why the 2018s are being sold instead. A loaded 18 with 5000 miles was 25,900. It was a great deal but my Mrs liked the 19. 2020 is coming quick so were going to hold off. Btw, the 2019 with no foglights looks hideous. The huge front end NEEDS the lights to fill the space.
2019. More handsome design with more pizzazz and aggressively masculine vibe, better quality and feel inside and out, even peppier powertrains with improved fuel efficiency (with either the petrol or hybrid), more personality, improved comfort and tech, etc. It's overall worth the upgrade. Just bring back the V6 option and I think we're gonna have an even bigger winner in our hands. :3
Hey I totally agree with everything you said. I will tell you that I've been here 13 years showing off Toyota models, so I've seen my share of V6 RAV4s. They sold about 5% while the 4-cylinder sold closer to 95%. Might be different 10 years later, but hard to say...Merry Christmas Farhan! Jeff
@@PLATINUM2U It actually did before. Remember the 3rd gen which offered it an an option? I would love to see it happen again with the new Avalon's (and Camry's which still has it as its optional engine upgrade) 301 horsepower V6 to make its way onto this. That'd make it even better. :)
Fluff aside 2018 has less mechanical and electrical issues. It also has a better transmission and an iron clad engine. 2019 already starting to have major issues. When it comes to tech tho (the fluff) the 2019 is nicer with the screen and the interior. If you have kids I would not recommend a lighter interior tho, it will get destroyed. I wish the 2018 had dual exhaust and a nicer interior. But if the 2019 had the same reliability of the 2013-2018 models I would get it. But it doesn’t. When it comes to headlights…you can do it yourself, if you can change a light bulb…you can change a headlight bulb. Super easy, so that’s no issue.
I wish I could blend the two. One thing I need is maximum cargo space, with that, I'm looking to remove the rear seat for increased cubic feet (bulky cargo for work). The 2018's split rear seat....including the bottom portion would allow me to remove the larger section and leave the smaller seat section intact for the occasional 2nd passenger.
The newer one has it over the older one with the nicer interior, the fuel economy better, more power and twin exhausts, but I like the shape and the more sleekness of the older one. However, both out of reach price wise, so I'll muddle along in my trusty old 1998 2.2L 4 cyl Camry for my road trips, and for work, I'll toddle along in my even older 1993 Corona 1.8 G Select! Both average over 13.5 ks per litre which isn't too bad for "Old Modern Cars!" 😀
Clever choice of color for the comparison. If you didn't pick black, it's easier to see the huge plastic cladding on the back of 2019, looks cheap compared to body color painted panels on the 2018.
I just test drove the 2019 Rav 4 XLE at Performance Toyota in Bountiful Utah. They are selling the same day they arrive. I own a 2016 Rav 4 which I purchased new from the same dealership Aug 2016 which is similar to the 2018. 2019: Pro, it is a Toyota Quicker acceleration vs my 2016 Rav 4. Con: Noisy engine vs my 2016 Rav 4. Choppy shifting vs my 2016 Rav 4 Engine smelled like burnt rubber. Salesman assured me the smell was the new engine breaking in. I did not have a burnt rubber smell when I test drove my new Rav 4 2016. From the side the angle of the back of the 2019 Rav 4 did not look geometrically pleasing to my eye. Conclusion: I will keep my smoother shifting quieter running Rav 4 2016 The 2019 Rav 4 was very disappointing. When I accelerated it felt and sounded like a tin can as the engine roared and the 8 speed transmission constantly shifted up and down and the shifting from one gear to the next was too pronounced unlike my smooth 6 speed. A $30,000 + SUV should feel solid and provide a quiet smooth ride. Neither was my experience and I drove it around town and on the interstate and it was not a pleasure to drive. I plan for my next automobile to look at other options in the $30k range.
I feel your salesperson was incorrect. It's probably the coating on the brakes when they get shipped. It burns off within a day or two. Great analysis....jeff
@@Toyotajeff If Toyota listens to you since you work for them, then please tell them to solve the engine noise problem in future models. I didn't believe all these complaints about engine noise in the 2019 rav4 until I test drove it. It was very loud! The sales rep was trying to deny it but I was just laughing in my mind. No need to try to cover-up because Toyota will loose thousands of potential buyers like me just because of this engine noise issue. Who wants to pay $40k to be partially deaf?
i have 2008 RAV4 2.2 Diesel 4x4 model with only 88000 Km and i think it's the best version with outside rear wheel that is the REAL RAV 4 feeling. all these new versions seems a Transformer gadget.
Denis N sorry. I couldn't think of the name for it. It is the lane stabilizer. The thing when you about to get over and you get beeps and the car basically pushes you back in the lane unless you persist.
I went with the 2018 XLE RAV4 this time after I was informed that the dealerships would only be getting a certain number to sell of the 2019 models. Plus I was told flat out by the leasing manager that I wouldn’t be able to afford the 2019 (dream killer)! I’m very happy with the 2018 as it has the BSM, lane departure, the rear hatch button to close it and a sunroof among other cool features. I really wanted to see the 2019 in person, but my lease was up and I got a really great deal on the 2018. I still hope to test drive the 2019, but I’m happy with my decision 😀
Driver legroom is much wider in the older models, as the new console takes up more floor space, so legs are cramped. The engine noise is more pronounced in the 2019 models, and the wind noise at freeway speeds is also louder due to the new 2019 boxy design.
I leased a 2018 XLE loaded with safety features including blind spot monitors, lane assistance, and others, but I will always have rear cross traffic alert it literally saves your a__. I also like the engine, my mechanic said that the 2018 is practically bulletproof. I have a mixed gray and black interior with the magnetic gray metallic exterior. Filling my gas tank a random guy loved the look and wanted to buy it. Finally coming to the end of 3 year lease and only 13,000 miles(Covid) I'm buying the vehicle. I like the different look compared to the box look. Someone left a note the other day offering to buy my RAV4.😎
I test drove both 2018 and 2019 , not impressed . The 2018 was a little better Drive with less road noise and engine noise . The 2019 was terrible, wind noise, tire noise and engine noise . In looking at both vehicles 2018 vs 2019 you can see all types of cost cutting on the 2019 . 2019, open the back hatch and press on the frame metal right and left , you can push your finger down and the flexes . The continuation of the wheel well black trim gets lost and stops. The ride in the 2019 is terrible . I test drove the Subaru Forester, hands down better ride, quality and comes real AWD at a better price point .
No it doesn’t have reclining seats. You can see where I was going with that and I meant to show the reclining seats but I guess I forgot that part ha ha. The rear seats are already reclined a little but they don’t move and adjust.
Watching another video, I saw that the 19’s rear seats do recline! The same handle used to lay the rear seats flat for more cargo space is also used to recline the seats
Have the 2018, Love it, a bit more engine noise, but not to bad. Really enjoy the 2018, skeptical on 2019 since its the first newer design on the rav4, maybe the 2020 or 2021 will define the kinks of the 2019, but the 2018 is really great. I enjoy the 2018. The only complaint is that they could have added a tiny bit more to the trunk area. Maybe incorporate the Dodge Caravan stow and go in the floor plan? I see the floor part of cars going to waste, when you can add storage compartments there without adding hardly any size to the car itself. Just my 2 cents.
What a great way to get prospects. I was a TO for about 5 years & then GSM at a Honda dealer, and needing some help was a great way to close some deals. Nice video buddy. So my 18 Adventure may get upgraded to a 19 Adventure. After the 3k rebate stops, it's killing my trade value! I was in a FJ for 11 1/2 years. The RAV's a great all-around car. IMHO just like my FJ made in Japan rules. Raleigh North Carolina is a long drive from Southwestern Colorado. A 19 in two tone Lunar Rock, w/BSM, no sun roof, no JBL, cold weather pkg. 🤔
Jeff awesome comparison. Lots of sale for the 2018 in the bay area California to clear the floor. That is what I was looking for. 2019 for me with only 800 dollars difference. Have a great Merry Christmas!
2019 looks much nicer its got some attitude in that front end. 2018 front end says what color purse would you like to go with your Rav. My self I miss the looks of the 2010 2011 and 2012 they just said tuff and the V6 contrary to what people say about reliability where the fastest factor prodution vehicle in the toyota line up and I have seen many with over 500000 km and never had a problem. People complaining about it being a problem engine well let's just say regular service means a lot. I have sold a ton of Rav4's new and used plus own one they are all well thought out. For those that disagree please do everyone a favor go by a Kia or a Hyundai better yet a Ford then after 10 years see what you can resell it for if you dont have to tow it into the dealship. It wont make a dent in your next rides price unless your looking for a used bike possibility of may be a new skateboard grip tap will be extra.
2019 all the way. By far a better looking vehicle, the extra power, and space. Should have also shown the boot too, also does the 2019 rear seats recline?
The 2019 was on the show floor but I bought the last 2018. Why? Never buy the first year of a new design. The 2018 has had 6 or so years to work out the bugs. The 2019 not so.
Senior college student here looking to finance a car with my mom and I’m thinking about getting the rav4 2019. I’m a journalist so I travel a lot and usually have a lot with me. I don’t care much about speed, just need something new to last me for a while especially if I travel.
Good luck with your car search and please keep me informed. Especially when you buy one. On my channel we celebrate all Toyota purchases so I would love to take a picture or a video of yours after you buy it. Jeff
Outside the 4th gen (2018) looks better outside but aside from that the 5th gen (2019) has better performance, mileage, and interior. Base model is well equipped, but I’d get alloys too, so I wouldn’t need to go any trims higher. Also the 2018 RAV-4 was the best selling car of this year, the outgoing model.
I need help here.....do you like the 2018 RAV4 better or do you like the all-new 2019 RAV4 better? You decide the winner of this battle in the comments section!! Jeff
2019 Rav 4 for sure!! if you could can you do a limited model 2019 rav 4?

I like the look of 2018 than the 2019. 2019 looks a mini van

Lol took till 2019 to look like a suv
My brother has the newer rav4 and it doesn’t drive like a minivan, my cousin has a 2019 VW Jetta and it kinda feels like a minivan inside.

The 2019 is great. The 2018 will still do the job and with incentives you can save about $3k. XLE is the way to go for either year.
I vote for the 2020 or 2021. That would be the time Toyota would be smart enough to put an insulation under the new Rav4s hood. Kill that engine noise !
My 2014 has no engine noise that im aware of.
Toyota RAV saving weight by not insulating under hood, every excess pound adds up affecting fuel consumption.
They also need to kill off Entune.
My 2018 rav doesnt have loud engine noise. Only time u hear it us when i first start it in the am if its cold af like -30- -40
Avoid the 2019/2020 - issues with the 8 speed transmission and with the fuel pump. Not to mention the new one is fugly
Just found that out.

still luv the 18 look
I have the 2018 RAV4 Xle and we love it.

ban sin skyactiv motor no good. Variable valve system messed up on mine at 4000 mi
Yes u r right.i agree
Painmaster212 isn’t that a myth?
I was considering a CX5 or Forester until saw the new 2019 Rav4! I never even considered the 2018 RAV4 based on it's looks.
Rav4 2018, does so much better offroad, more reliable, 2019 has problems with gauge, transmission and brakes. 2018 Rav4 looks more youngish style.
2018 looks nicer from outside but 19 looks years ahead in the inside
It's the opposite here.
2019 looks like a baby 4Runner. Badass!
Great review. Don’t like the obtrusive info screen on the 2019 model. Unfortunately most car companies seem to be in love with not integrating the screens into the dash.

I considered leasing the newer corollas when they came out but thank god I didn’t that would have been a disaster since I drive a lot 😂
2018, stealthy looking, simple and reliable. I would still take a 2019 over any competition though👍

If you ask me, I choose the 2019 RAV4 over last year's model.
2018, less bells and whistles to go wrong and most of all, reliable engine tried and true and the transmission on the 2019's are different.
Jeff
V6 😍 would love to see it happen
@@Toyotajeff Thanks. Happy Christmas and Merry Holidays to you too! ;)
2019 definitely has more pizza’s
Good to know. I am debating between the 2.
Just bought the 2018 last month
I wish I could blend the two. One thing I need is maximum cargo space, with that, I'm looking to remove the rear seat for increased cubic feet (bulky cargo for work). The 2018's split rear seat....including the bottom portion would allow me to remove the larger section and leave the smaller seat section intact for the occasional 2nd passenger.
I love the 2018 exterior but the 2019 interior. So my favorite is the 2019 because I will spend 100% of the time inside the car XD XD XD
New one looks much improved 😎😎
I like it even more now that I did a side-by-side comparison....jeff
How about Forester lol
Looks are skin deep. The 8 speed transmission and the loud engine is a complete turnoff. Glad I got the 2016
I have an '18 and like it just fine. 2019 seems better, but I can't get past the idea that it looks too much like a Jeep. Maybe it will grow on me.
Thanks for the comparison video, just what I was looking for! Im looking to purchase used and I think Im leaning towards the 2019 redesign look.
2019 much improved, more HP, LED lights, more room inside. I want one :)
rear end of 2018 rav 4 looks better
My girlfriend's rear is better
ibrahim bashir ahmed my thoughts exactly

@@stevethea5250 at least i am not flattering . hope u r not doing also .
2019 is my choice. Better mpg, more hp, improve interior space/look, and I like the look of new exterior.
cosmetics vs. fundamentals
2019! getting mine tomorrow
Clever choice of color for the comparison. If you didn't pick black, it's easier to see the huge plastic cladding on the back of 2019, looks cheap compared to body color painted panels on the 2018.
The interior is much better in the 2019 than the 2018. Outside looks better on the outside, too. However, Toyota still falls short in several areas.
Not a fan of electronic parking breaks and much prefer vehicles with hand brakes so I would pick the 2018.
I just test drove the 2019 Rav 4 XLE at Performance Toyota in Bountiful Utah.
They are selling the same day they arrive.
I own a 2016 Rav 4 which I purchased new from the same dealership Aug 2016 which is similar to the 2018.
2019:
Pro, it is a Toyota
Quicker acceleration vs my 2016 Rav 4.
Con:
Noisy engine vs my 2016 Rav 4.
Choppy shifting vs my 2016 Rav 4
Engine smelled like burnt rubber. Salesman assured me the smell was the new engine breaking in.
I did not have a burnt rubber smell when I test drove my new Rav 4 2016.
From the side the angle of the back of the 2019 Rav 4 did not look geometrically pleasing to my eye.
Conclusion:
I will keep my smoother shifting quieter running Rav 4 2016
The 2019 Rav 4 was very disappointing.
2018 for me it has barely less acceleration from 0 to 60 ...it gets just a lil less on gas mileage but it looks better to me than the 2019 version
i have 2008 RAV4 2.2 Diesel 4x4 model with only 88000 Km and i think it's the best version with outside rear wheel that is the REAL RAV 4 feeling. all these new versions seems a Transformer gadget.
Way better design 2018 !
Denis N sorry. I couldn't think of the name for it. It is the lane stabilizer. The thing when you about to get over and you get beeps and the car basically pushes you back in the lane unless you persist.
I've got a 2018 rav. It's lovely to drive . My only complaint is the lack of cd player.
It has a cd player. The 2019 does not have cd player the 2018 have it.
My 2018 base model LE came with cd player
I went with the 2018 XLE RAV4 this time after I was informed that the dealerships would only be getting a certain number to sell of the 2019 models. Plus I was told flat out by the leasing manager that I wouldn’t be able to afford the 2019 (dream killer)! I’m very happy with the 2018 as it has the BSM, lane departure, the rear hatch button to close it and a sunroof among other cool features. I really wanted to see the 2019 in person, but my lease was up and I got a really great deal on the 2018. I still hope to test drive the 2019, but I’m happy with my decision 😀
How are you still enjoying your ride?
Without a doubt, 2019 rav4! Hope to get it 1 day...
Great video! Really helped me choose which year I liked better. Thanks
Driver legroom is much wider in the older models, as the new console takes up more floor space, so legs are cramped. The engine noise is more pronounced in the 2019 models, and the wind noise at freeway speeds is also louder due to the new 2019 boxy design.
I wish they did a plug in hybrid with 30-50 mile (80 km) range, that would be win, win.
My brother just got this car 2021, I like it is all I’ll say, fantastic vehicle.
💪🔥
2019 wins across the board except for the roof rail design. The '18 raised roof rails are more useful than the kind that are flush with the roof.
Thank you! I was wondering about the noise.

2019 Rav4 is lot better than the 2018, I will wait for xse though . Thanks for making videos on the Rav4.
Glad to help Prashant! jeff
The 19 looks more substancial. Does the new LE have reclining rear seats? I noticed you didnt show them
No it doesn’t have reclining seats.
2018 model is better than 2019 for me.
Great idea. Face to face. The old the new. Should be always like that for ALL cars...
Jeff awesome comparison. Lots of sale for the 2018 in the bay area California to clear the floor. That is what I was looking for. 2019 for me with only 800 dollars difference. Have a great Merry Christmas!
I like 2018 model !
I would definitely choose the 2019 to me it’s so much more to look at. 😍😙
Love your side by side review. Very helpful.
Thanks! It seemed like an organically cool idea :)
2019 all the way.
By far a better looking vehicle, the extra power, and space.
Should have also shown the boot too, also does the 2019 rear seats recline?
2019 is better and masculine.
The 2019 was on the show floor but I bought the last 2018. Why? Never buy the first year of a new design. The 2018 has had 6 or so years to work out the bugs. The 2019 not so.
The 2019 Subaru RAV4😂😂. that new interior will keep it a sales leader.
Senior college student here looking to finance a car with my mom and I’m thinking about getting the rav4 2019. I’m a journalist so I travel a lot and usually have a lot with me. I don’t care much about speed, just need something new to last me for a while especially if I travel.
Wait for the Hybrid in the Spring. It will add 10 mpg with a minor price premium.
Also the 2018 RAV-4 was the best selling car of this year, the outgoing model.
i like this side by side comparison video. it gives me more information about the differences of exterior and interior of the vehicles. Thanks
In my opinion 2019 looks so much better both interior and exterior.
