Redline Reviews What’s the point of reviewing a vehicle you don’t like when the new ones are about to come out? I remember going to a car show a few years back & asking a rep about this car & he knew nothing about it.I think Toyota needs to rethink who they make represent their vehicles to the public as well. Sofyan is not an adventurous type of individual but yet Toyota sends him an “Adventure” vehicle.Might as well send him a base model corolla from the 90’s.
I think the new one would be worth the wait. Better interiors more rugged looks and I am genuinely curious how the new Torque vectoring AWD system does. No word yet on the engines as well but if it has the Camry's same 2.5 205HP there would be no reason to buy a Forester over this, plus you can get a hybrid.
If you are considering the CRV, wait until Honda has figured out a fix for the turbo engine gas in oil issue. And don't trust the Honda salespeople who claim they have never heard of it. This issue is all over the CRV forums. When I was shopping for an SUV, I test drove the CRV, and asked the salesperson about the oil issue. He looked at me like I had two heads claimed not to know anything about it.
honda uses direct injection and cvt tranny. NO THANKS!! Toyota all the way Mazda isnt a bad option either. i sold my 2019 crv as soon as i found out about the oil dilution and direct injection issues. had it for 18 months and a dealer paid off the 34000 balance. Yes the crv is a very rest utility car and is comfortable, and nice in the looks dept, but engine and transmission turned me away immediately. i would strongly consider something other than honda if you are in the market. dont let the dealer tell you that engine cleaner blah blah blah........remember, they are trying to make a sale, and keep you coming back for service (even unexpected service). 2018 rav4 is the best year for the car, and im looking for one right now as my 2nd car. my Volvo s60 is my savage beauty, and a '24 zx4rr for those nice hot summer days in phoenix 🏍😉 #TOYOTA
Even with this RAV4 being an older platform, it is still the most reliable vehicle in it's class. The new CRV has many issues, from the transmission to the airconditioning. Honda has fallen off.
man, I used to be a honda fan. came from a beater tacoma, then i bought a 2011 pilot brand new. fucking sensor problems within a couple of months. now at 100k miles, already getting engine misfires. looking at the forums, its a common honda problem.
Tobbots Actually it is not the most reliable but tied with 2018 Equinox at about 12-13 repairs per 100 according to Truedelta data. That is half as many repairs as CR-V with 29/100. The Equinox is the newest and offers 1.5t and 2.0T with 252 horsepower.
Jonathan A The 2019 looks like it actually has standard options. I just hope the headlights are better, the current generation is a dim haze at night, very difficult to see the road. On mine, the DRL, Low beam are the same and the High Beam is almost no change from the Low.
Kevin H, you've made my day with your "Lacking Everything" comic relief 😆. You're absolutely right! The LE is just boring in terms of features. If I really want to buy a car, why should I go for something that truly lacks everything? Good one 👍
Greg Gammago It’s called a micro-penis. We all have them, well except for me, mine is technically due to a botched circumcision. Better than being a piece of shit though, which mostly reflects on your family and upbringing. I’m happy to be raised and surrounded by good people, even if they have tiny penises.
In retrospect, given the recent problems with the CR-V turbo engine Toyota must be smiling as they have not jumped in to the turbo engine craze to any extent.
I must admit, I do like the rugged looks of the new gen coming up. I even like the idea of 30 horses under the hood, as the current one does seem to struggle a bit when pushed from a dead stop. I feel like the trans gets a bit confused, as if it's not sure if you're really asking it to take off. I've had every model other than the base in this generation, both voluntarily and involuntarily and I currently own the limited. Owning this car in it's current gen for as long as I have, I've learned to tweak the driving behaviors to suit my needs and I do have a very high appreciation for the car. But if I'm honest, I wish I wasn't forced to replace my SE with the limited, as I really like the looks of that one. But when it's totaled you have no choice. However, I am glad to have my limited, especially with TSSP. I won't buy anything other than a Toyota. I'ts reliability is top-notch, in my opinion.
I just recently bought the 2007 toyota Rav4 for my first car. I know later down the road I would like to get the more updated models of the Ravs since I love mines so much.
Posting this comment just a few minutes into the video, I'm sorry if you address this.... But isn't the advantage of this model that it can tow 3500lbs? I know that is a huge advantage, since it uses a traditional automatic and not a cvt. We're a couple of fabulous queens who enjoy camping. But a CR-V can't even pull some little tear drop trailers.
Sofyan basically hit the mark with this review. This is solid basic transportation that will get you to where you need to go (albeit sluggishly if we’re talking highway speed). If the incentives are significant enough this generation may present itself as a good deal. It’s a hard sell for some when you consider that the new model will be better improved in most aspects.
I drove the 2017 RAV4 for about 4 years, and it is an older platform, it still drove great. I had no problems with it, and it's reliable as heck. Toyota knows how to manufacture a reliable SUV, and I see why the RAV4 is very popular. I bought the 2021 RAV4 LE, and as expected, Toyota delivered. Fuel economy for the 2021 RAV4 though is miles better than the 2017 I had. I was averaging a high of at least 47 mpg (~5 L/100 km here in Canada) and a low of around 24 mpg (~10 L/100 km), which is amazing. I was amazed at the amount of range before empty with the 2021 RAV4.
How’re you liking it still? Any transmission issues or anything else? You’re driving a car with a CVT vs the old automatic transmission. That’s where you’ll see the MPG difference but every single mechanic and car enthusiast I know hates on the CVT.
@@couryrussell7653 my current RAV4 is still perfect 👍👍 we only have over 50000 km on the car but no major issues so far with engine, transmission, or anything. The only thing I do is just regular oil and filter changes and I did replace the brakes on it once. But other than that, it’s typical Toyota. Low maintenance and reliable. The 8-speed automatic is much better than the old RAV4’s 6-speed automatic.
Practical, reliable, easy to drive, comfortable, proven power train. Gas tank is too small, not the greatest MPG. A good, no fuss vehicle. Also, larger radiator and higher tow capacity with this version.
compared to newer competing CUV's, the non turbocharged 2.5L 4 with the established 6 speed transmission, provide for the most reliable CUV drivetrain. This is a huge factor for anyone planning to keep a vehicle beyond a couple of years - RELIABILITY!
Hey man great review, I decided on the RAV4 because of the issues the new 17-18 CRVs are having and felt the Rogue was more underpowered than the RAV4 .In the trunk right behind the rear seats theres actually a small storage nook that I didnt realize was there until recently.
I love your team's hard work and effort Sofyan. I've subscribed to you in my other accounts as well. I can't wait until that Golden Play Button will come at next year
This generation of RAV4 is the best selling and most reliable CUV so if you need a CUV today go ahead and buy one. The Hybrid makes the most sense of the current crop. We already know the 2019 will offer more power and better handling but there is a huge hole in the RAV4 lineup where the V6 used to be .
The 2019 Rav4 has people insanely excited no doubt! But if your a person who likes the 2018 you will be able to get an INSANE deal on a 2018 model. When a redesign is announced the current model will slow due to people waiting for the new one. The more excited they are the more the numbers slow. The more they slow the more of them get discounted to move them out for the new year. We are seeing the 2018 slow WAY, WAY down! This means there will be a rather large number of 2018's to sell and will get MUCH bigger discounts! The 2019 hasn't even hit the lot yet and I am seeing Rav4's for $6,000.00 below the MSRP! We will see like I saw a used 2016 4wd that lists for $28,000 being offered for $18,000. I am looking at used ones consistently being offered for 5 thousand under the listed value already! I just looked at a new Rav4 Limited Edition in 4x4 with an MSRP of $34,000 and yet they are asking only $28,000! Cars have been my work for over 30 years now. I'm telling you, there are going to be some great deals if someone is willing to drive a new 2018 for a little of nothing!! I fully expect to see them at 9 and 10 thousand dollars under the MSRP soon. That Rav4 for the MSPR of $34,000 will be priced at $25,000 before long. At the end, once the 2019 is on the lot, I expect to see that Rav4 $22,000! It WILL go from $34,000 to $22,000. Big dealers have a lot of them. The one I am watching has 68 Rav4 on their lot right now. That's a lot of cars to get rid of and some damn good deals!!
Love the videos ], and you know so much on these cars. How did you miss that the main advantage of the Adventure model is the upgraded engine components to allow it to tow 3500 lbs!?! Thats impressive with a 176 hp 4 cyl. That is where the value is at on this trim level/ model.
The CRV kicks it butt with its oil dilution & CVT too, LOL. We wanted a CRV but after hearing about the oil issues with the 1.5L turbo and reading what owners have said, no thanks!
Right now I am liking the Forester for its better ground clearance and awd (just to drive up and down rutted fire roads) but would love to hear how the 2019 Rav4 Adventure compares (improved clearance and capability?) with a definitely better drivetrain.
I depends on how you look at it (The limited and xse rav4 have bold front ends that can often be polarizing). However the new Adventure grade rav4 looks better (Well at least to me).
I'll have to disagree. Look at the new murano that was pretty eye catching when it was released and now just blends into the parking lot. It may be a bit much now but in a few months time of release it will be commonplace and people will appreciate that it at least took a bold step from blending in.
Love my 2018 Rav4 adventure. However in the snow it is pissing me off... as soon as the wheels start sliding it won't let me hit the gas. I could push the gas to the floor and the wheels won't move for about 3 seconds. And will only activate for 3 seconds, spin then automatically stop. Very frustrating. Especially going into a turn... and I have no gas to scoot me through it. Am I missing something. ??? Wtf I can't even do donuts in the parking lot for fun. Please help.
Here in Jamaica, they are very popular but only FWD and mostly CVT is available (JDM). I am personally not a fan. I prefer Mazda CX5 or Subaru Forester.
As a resident of Jamaica, there is none of the good cars here. I'm still waiting for some of the cars to come to Jamaica although when they do arrive only the rich can afford it. Sigh cars are very expensive here
Even with Toyota, avoid the first two years of a new model. Gotta work out bugs somehow. I will stick with my 2018 RAV4 and enjoy its boring but reliable nature :)
Hey he's complaining about hp..... Sounds like he complains where he shouldn't. Gas prices? Ha, obviously gonna go up.... So I'll keep my I4 cars till it craps out
Great review, Sofyan! I just recently saw the 2019 Toyota RAV4 at the Miami International Auto Show, and I have to say, "I'm quite impressed!" I was able to make a short sneak peak video, along with a 'one to one' interview with a design rep. As always, keep up the great work! I can't wait to see your review of the all-new 2019 RAV4!
The Honda CRV CVT and 1.5T are not reliable or durable. This is why RAV4 sales are booming. People just need something that works. I find the current gen RAV4 is too slow and does not have enough room for a 6 ft male driver even with the seat all the way back. The CX5 is probably the best choice in this category.
rav4 is too slow? No issue rav4 is great because Honda had problems some issue and also bad services. I feel unlike cvt.. I did switch Honda to Toyota done. I’m happy rav4 looks good
We bought our Rav4 Adventure in September. We get way higher gas mileage than the estimated MPG. I have even gotten 35 MPG highway and i usually get 28 MPG city. We didn't wait for the 2019 because I don't like the new look of it.
Yeah the new CX5 looks like it's 10 years ahead of the Toyota's SUV lineup. Toyota is working with Mazda on future projects so they really should ask for some designers to bring a bit of style to their cars.
Of course u should wait a car is a pretty big investment as well if your one of the many that drive their car to the ground then by all means wait for the new shape
This IS a great car, but the new one is SO much better looking, inside and out. IMO this olden has toy-like looks. And the new Hybrid RAV4 is apparently getting 4.5l/100km which is AMAZING, like roughly 50 mpg.
nkyryry Avalon. Lexus products. Land Cruiser. Crown (although not sold in North America, but would make a great fit above the Avalon). Highlander. Especially the new Camry, Corolla, and RAV4. (and like I said earlier, the Avalon, as always, and still applies with the all-new generation of the Avalon that's already out) I'm listening.
Lexus is apart. Land Cruiser, yes... but still boring inside and it cost over 100K, so it doesn't count, moron. Corolla, Rav4 and Camry? You already lost there. LOL
1. Given the fact that Toyota owns the Lexus brand as their luxury division, still counts regardless. 2. I was referring to the Land Cruiser's quality respectively. Though to be fair, I'm hoping for a redesign soon. And just because the Land Cruiser costs around 100K (actually way below that) does not change the fact that it's owned by Toyota. *Get educated before talking.* 3. Specifically referring to the new Camry and Corolla Hatchback that came out (sedan version coming soon), which surprisingly have quality interiors. As for the new RAV4, same thing when I sat in ones displayed at the NYIAS this past March.
The regular rav 4 is extremely boring to look at you only like this model because of the black rims & blacked out accents on the car along with the black stripes. Other than that this car is very dull with an extremely cheap looking/ feeling interior
I own one a 2017 rav4 adventure and it's amazing honestly the Navi is meh but I always just use my phone anyways and I also have a mitsubishi outlander sport and I just gotta say you can feel the quality difference between the two if you want something more luxurious just get the lexus RX but the rav4 adventure is great
I'd say get this model over the newer upcoming one. Never buy the 1st release of a car model since they will come with many problems. You will be a beta tester for toyota while paying the full price of it...
Feels it too - had one as a rental, but essentially brand new with only a few hundred miles on it and low-grade plastics - felt like an older platform was my overall impression. On top of no steering feel and body lean, those are hard to overcome for me. If roominess and reliability reign, it could be a decent option and with those sales numbers seems to be a choice for many. If it was me, I'd wait one model year after the new one comes out to get through new model bugs and pick the new one for sure just based on the sneak peaks.
I love the 2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure, I can't wait until you do the review on the 2019 Toyota RAV4, I think I would wait on the 2019 Toyota RAV4, it has better style!!!! I can't wait for y'all next video.
You should definitely wait for the new 2019. Finally a more powerful engine and an 8 speed transmission. Acceleration was always the weakest part of this generation RAV4 since they stopped offering the V6. My wife has the 2014 RAV4 XLE, (first year of this generation). I like it, but I always feel like a liability when I'm accelerating on the highway.

"Look how slow this is..."
"Waves hand impatiently"*Zooms past everyone on the road*
My rav4 hybrid in 6.7 seconds 0 to 60.
@Heyu Yoma Flat surface, normal mode. Also 170 # weight. I'm referring to the hybrid version.
Want to get the 2019. Can’t wait for the review!
Sigh cars are very expensive here
Soyfan, with your love of pano sunroofs, are you following the issue with them exploding?
Even with Toyota, avoid the first two years of a new model. Gotta work out bugs somehow. I will stick with my 2018 RAV4 and enjoy its boring but reliable nature :)
Hey he's complaining about hp..... Sounds like he complains where he shouldn't. Gas prices? Ha, obviously gonna go up.... So I'll keep my I4 cars till it craps out
That 2.5 L 4-cylinder engine is all too familiar to me :D It's in the 2021 RAV4 I have ~~
My family had an '07 RAV4. Great car.
Tbh I’m not really digging the new 2019 rav4. It looks more like a highlander shape than a compact crossover.
that's exactly why I like it though lol
Great review, Sofyan! I just recently saw the 2019 Toyota RAV4 at the Miami International Auto Show, and I have to say, "I'm quite impressed!"
I was able to make a short sneak peak video, along with a 'one to one' interview with a design rep. As always, keep up the great work! I can't wait to see your review of the all-new 2019 RAV4!
That's Q wireless charging you're talking about, btw, for phones. That's standard on the TRD Pro Tacoma.
I’m looking for a reliable car is this worth it in 2021 thinking about getting it
The Honda CRV CVT and 1.5T are not reliable or durable.
I’m happy rav4 looks good
@brian, cxshit is smaller then the rav, small bootspace and small brain like u..😂😂😂😂
TOyota is trying so hard getting rid of the old models. There's a huge deal on this. If you don't care about stylish, i'd recommend get this.
Can you do a review of a new F30 3 series before the new one comes out?
We bought our Rav4 Adventure in September. We get way higher gas mileage than the estimated MPG. I have even gotten 35 MPG highway and i usually get 28 MPG city. We didn't wait for the 2019 because I don't like the new look of it.
The new one looks horrible. This one is beautiful
Are you also planning to tackle the 2019 C-HR as well? Changes are already made to it for 2019...
Dude I just saw this same model Rav 4 black stripe down the middle in Little Kneck NY this evening 😀👍was it you?
Nice looking car, but the the interior needs to be redesigned and the radio system is outdated. Not a fan of Toyota's Etune software.
love the POV
Great Review
I’ll take the Mazda CX-5 instead, particularly the new one coming with 2.5 turbo. My wife has the 2016 and it has been very reliable so far.
Mg Morgan wait, they’re putting the 2.5T in the CX-5? That’ll be a blast. I’d take that every day over this.
@@BeesonsCars
Yes.
www.google.ca/amp/s/www.caranddriver.com/amp/news/mazda-cx-5-turbo-engine-2019
Yes they are, am waiting if they do am buying it.
Yeah the new CX5 looks like it's 10 years ahead of the Toyota's SUV lineup. Toyota is working with Mazda on future projects so they really should ask for some designers to bring a bit of style to their cars.
3rd gen v6 eats the new 2.5 tubro cx5 easy
Toyota should a make a more off road capable version of these for people who don't want to spend $40K+ for the 4runner.
Of course u should wait a car is a pretty big investment as well if your one of the many that drive their car to the ground then by all means wait for the new shape
Any idea how much the new 2019 Rav4 will be?
Any word on when Toyota will be upgrading the Sienna? Looks good but that thing is OLD!!!
You didn't see the 2018 model?
redlining the car doesnt really make it slow ... i drive a 93 loyale .
test drove one of these yesterday, HORRIBLE blind spots...
Subaru's are the last bastion of decent visibility. Thank god they still put function over form...
The newer front end on the Subaru's I'm a big fan of, picked up a 2018 Crosstrek amazing visibility.
It is time for the IIHS to introduce minimum visibility standards in their vehicle safety ratings.
rkh, preach!
bb01, Lord knows the Gubment aint gonna do it. Amen and Hallelujah.
This IS a great car, but the new one is SO much better looking, inside and out. IMO this olden has toy-like looks. And the new Hybrid RAV4 is apparently getting 4.5l/100km which is AMAZING, like roughly 50 mpg.
On looks alone, yes. You should wait for the new one.
Does Toyota even make a vehicle that can compete in interior quality/design?
nkyryry Avalon. Lexus products. Land Cruiser. Crown (although not sold in North America, but would make a great fit above the Avalon). Highlander. Especially the new Camry, Corolla, and RAV4. (and like I said earlier, the Avalon, as always, and still applies with the all-new generation of the Avalon that's already out)
I'm listening.
Yes. all of their vehicles with the TNGA platform....
*Get educated before talking.*
3. Specifically referring to the new Camry and Corolla Hatchback that came out (sedan version coming soon), which surprisingly have quality interiors. As for the new RAV4, same thing when I sat in ones displayed at the NYIAS this past March.
Avalon? My parents have a 2013 XLE fully loaded and its basically a Lexus in everything but name.
Put premium gas in it and it can somewhat haul. Keep in mind there should be a manual shift option as well that I thought was on all trims.
The rav 4 actually looks sick. Can't wait to see what the redesign looks like
You don't have to wait there's already reviews about it and you can also look it up on google lmao
alextb10 I know right lmao...
The regular rav 4 is extremely boring to look at you only like this model because of the black rims & blacked out accents on the car along with the black stripes. Other than that this car is very dull with an extremely cheap looking/ feeling interior
@@NOFATCHICK1 typical Toyota
I own one a 2017 rav4 adventure and it's amazing honestly the Navi is meh but I always just use my phone anyways and I also have a mitsubishi outlander sport and I just gotta say you can feel the quality difference between the two if you want something more luxurious just get the lexus RX but the rav4 adventure is great
How did you have navigation with a map displayed?
Still waiting for the 2019 RAV4 review!
what about the 2019 camaro I wanna Wait for your review Till I Buy it
How short are you? The rear seat looks huge
Great review as always! But I have to say the rav4's dash and doors are WAY too busy! I prefer the simple elegance of my 2016 CX-5 GT.
In hindsight, yes. If you could've waited, you should've waited.
I'd say get this model over the newer upcoming one. Never buy the 1st release of a car model since they will come with many problems. You will be a beta tester for toyota while paying the full price of it...
interior looks really cheap
Feels it too - had one as a rental, but essentially brand new with only a few hundred miles on it and low-grade plastics - felt like an older platform was my overall impression. On top of no steering feel and body lean, those are hard to overcome for me. If roominess and reliability reign, it could be a decent option and with those sales numbers seems to be a choice for many. If it was me, I'd wait one model year after the new one comes out to get through new model bugs and pick the new one for sure just based on the sneak peaks.
Oh snap , I thought I was looking at a Bentley .. you're delusional if you'll find a Toyota like thar
Droo Then go look at Lexus. You’re an idiot if you think Toyota is like premium luxury
Well it’s expected since it’s pretty much the cheap suv like the Corolla is the cheaper, small (but not smallest) car.
@@modmatt1 Toyota isn't one to be overcome by "new model/1st gen bugs" ??? :P maybe other brands but not TYT... gimme example
the 2019 has everything this one is missing!
I got the same on the video , I rent the 2019 and feel cheap and engine is noisy I prefer my 2018
Am I the only one that sees the power sword from Halo in the tail lights?
Ugh. The embargo lifts 11/20. Thats so far from now!
It's not a hood strip; it's a landing strip.
Any idea when Toyota is going to send out the new Corolla Hatchback? I've been waiting for that for some time now.
are vee It's been out since this past July.
I know the car is out. It's the review I'm asking about.
are vee It's been up since this past April. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/1lpx5njDCGI/w-d-xo.html
I hope the next gen has the 203hp from the Camry a little more power never hurts
Luke-o 1234 Unless if it's about the Toyota GT86 on an older platform that is. lol
There must be a typo in the video title. I think you meant "2008 Toyota RAV4"
Supposedly the black stripe along as cosmetics, is designed to reduce glare to the driver.
I love the 2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure, I can't wait until you do the review on the 2019 Toyota RAV4, I think I would wait on the 2019 Toyota RAV4, it has better style!!!! I can't wait for y'all next video.
Nice. The camry on stilts.
Corolla on stilts
Does the adventure come with standard auto start?
Yes! I have this car and all Adventures do.
I would buy this over the new one coming I hate first model years
Same. This one looks better than the 2019 to me
I'd rather buy a cx5 gt
I have not sold it yet in Japan
Ngl these things are a godsend for your wallet during the whole time youve owned it good mpg and pretty cheap for what you get!
kapan ya rav4 ini masuk indo ya mas sofyan..
First year of this gen was 2013
@@jamesburrough8142 my mistake, I don't remember seeing these until 14
A liability? Really? You're insanely spoiled if you think a sub 9 second 0-60 is a liability. You are young and naive and haven't been driving long
It looks damm hot and light really nice
Wow, now I know why these are always holding up traffic on the highway
Why Haven’t you tested any Fords besides the Expedition and F-150????????
The answer is yes.
