This really is a fantastic tutorial for creating a generic model in Blockbench. I will say it's a tad fast paced, and a few things were hard to noticed. One thing I struggled with trying to figure out for a few minutes was that holding shift let me make smaller size adjustments and movements, holding ctrl and then drawing a rectangle is how you select things, and you have to select what you're trying to transform + flip x. Despite the tutorial feeling a bit fast in my opinion, this is the best video for understanding the proper modeling process when making a generic model. It was incredibly easy to follow, the tool feels powerful without feeling overwhelming like Blender, and I'm so excited to create with it. My advice to anyone reading the comments who are unsure, *give it a go!!* Make a few different trucks and get comfortable with the hotkeys and modeling process! Take it from a serial procrastinator, do it now! Follow the video, practice the basics here that he teaches you by making a few trucks, try to make a car, and a bus too! You'll have the basics in no time, and then you can push on to learn newer things with ease! Good luck!
I was really frusterated because I just wanted to make very simple, low poly meshes and I feel like blender (and it's learning curve) was overkill, I searched for hours, had so many people insult me for asking. finally I found this randomly lmao.
Yeah, for low poly work, this seems to be a much easier app for game models. Blender is more for high end graphics(at least at this point). Not busting on blender, they are both good modeling packages. But for beginners, it seems that this is a bit easier.
The kicker is Blender has no limitation on creating block/low-poly models...you're taking cubes/planes and placing them next to each other. That's it. There are already a plethora of tutorials on how to use Blender for that explicit purpose, so you clearly didn't look hard enough _or at all._
@@DxBlack as a newb myself Blender is just a confusing mess, I managed to make a low poly pepperbox pistol but I haven’t been able to texture it. Sure there are tutorials but Blender is definitely overkill for simple/low poly stuff
I am relatively new to Blockbench. I see the real potential for this program, having tried to learn and master Blender. I even got to get a feel for modeling using cubes. However, the implementation of meshes offers more opportunities. I keep watching and re-watching this video for inspiration and learning. Thank you for this fabulous video resource!
this was actually way easier than I thought it would be. I never tried making 3d games because I thought 3d assets/blender would be too much for me. However blockbench is really nice and simple. Thank you!
The automatic pixel perfect UV alone gives this program a massive edge over Blender. Blender has a million different plugins, but I have wanted someone to make a plugin that does exactly what this software does on its own for years. Nobody ever has, at least not this easy.
thank you so much for adding the theme editing feature and keybinding. many developers ignore the fact that customization of ui/ux in a designing app is important to many of the users.
I was looking into this because I was getting into modding the old id Tech games (Doom, Quake) and wanted a program I could use to make low-poly models for my mods. I was pretty pleased to see while watching this that modeling in Blockbench is a lot like making a map in Doom, funnily enough.
This software has so much potential. I'd like to see a better loopcut tool that allows multiple even cuts. I'd also like a mirror mode. I think I'm seeing a lot of repeated work here, and some careful copy and pasting at the right time. But I love the simplicity. Really going to give this a good try out !
2:32 to select the entire loop cut: ALT+leftmouse on one of its edges. Strangely enough I can't find this in the keybindings nor could I find it on the blockbench wiki.
I didn't even know you could do this!! I made an entire model of a castle simply by brute force and the 'create cube' functionon.... This Is definetly gonna save me a lot of time! Can't wait to get into 3D modeling again.
I just opened *another* Blender video course ... but i really, really dread blender. Been looking for quite some time for ... something. Just a light at the end of the tunnel... and im really exited to try blockbench!!
going from blender to this is interesting, blender ofc is good for about any mesh, but still for low poly models with a pixel texture it's pretty usefull
here is a cheating method (you should still learn how shading works) : move your view to a point in space you would like to imitate a spot light , then it's as easy as painting every surface you see
@@eineatombombe bro just pretend there's a light coming from an angle from above and paint accordingly, shade in crevices with darker colors and highlight parts you'd think would extrude. hue shift, contrast things and it's all well and good
there seems to be some problems importing this car into Unreal Engine 5. Are there any peculiarities I should be aware of when importing .fbx or .obj files into it? UE rejected my import of the .obj file, for example.
3:03 I try to do this, but the entire model gets deleted! ive definely selected the wheel faces but the entire model gets removed off the face of the earth!
I tried getting started but then it annoyed me that there is no regular knife tool. Only the loop cut tool. Also no boolean operations exist. For me that is a bit too little in terms of basic modelling features. But the other approaches are really cool and make for a great style. Really hope these features get added at some point in the future.
8:30 how did you get the edge to move in incriments of .25? 8:49 and how did you did this because mine concaved the mirror part in 9:37 lastly how did you get to do that? the dragging to make the blue highlight box to appear because all clicking an dragging does for me moves the camera
1. Hold Shift while moving (Ctrl is also an option with different results) 2. I selected one of the edges using edge selection mode. 3. It depends on the key map. You might have to hold control to do it.
Hi, I’m using the web app version via an iPad but don’t seem to be able to drag a rectangle like you did around 6:07 when selecting the tyre. Every time I try with my finger or Apple Pencil I just rotate the viewport. Do you know what I might be doing wrong?
In the tools I can't add a "separator" the following text comes out: Some tools may be hidden due to the inability to use in the current mode, format or situation. Maybe someone knows what to do about it? I would be very grateful!
I want to rotate in the scene with 2 fingers in trackpad just like in blender, but after I load blender keybindings, that doesn't' work, can only navigate with Middle mouse button
Learning blockbench is a bit... much for me, the fact that none of the key binds match blender adds a very big and unnecessary layer of learning that I frankly do not especially want to put up with BUT Blockbench without any doubt seems far more well suited to pixel art texturing than blender, is there a possibility to do the geometry and animation in blender, upload the model to Blockbench - paint the texture and import it back to blender?
I have one question. Will there be a shared model in the bedrock if I change from name.bbmodel.txt to name.geo.json, or will the bedrock not be able to read this model?
I don't see the Select face/edge/vertex buttons... right click customize toolbar, searched through it all still don't see them. None of the main menu drop downs (File, edit, etc) show it either. Seriously unintuitive wherever thse buttons are being hidden. I am using a completely fresh install by the way, everything is default.

it depends what you need, if you want to create realistic models instead of low poly ones then all I can say is lol
Very good tutorial, blockbench is perfect for its niche.
Great tutorial! Thanks for showing how to get started like that and begin with a great looking low poly vehicle!
very interesting video love the pixel texture map and how simple it was done.
Yassssss...

Wow, fantastic stuff.
looking very gooood, i might try it !!!!!
Thank you so much Blockbench for this tutoriar and that application🙂
Great tutorial!
Could you make a tutorial for pixel art shading? I've been doing pixel art for a few months but I'm still terrible at shading :]
I suggest you look at AdamCYounis videos. He is great at pixel art and it could apply to blockbench too. :D

Guys, while I'm selecting faces like in 3:04, after pressing delete, all model disappears not only seleted faces, what can I be doing wrong?
Great tutorial! The only real trouble using Blockbench is texturing sloped surfaces... I can't figure out a good way to do it.

so underrated
Can you make another video showing how to animate this truck exactly how you shown in the beginning of this video? The animation is so cute & perfect!
I've tried centering the model using the center function and I still can't use mirror-painting.
Well somtime is added to my bucket list 😂

From what I have personally found you’ll probably just have to toggle ctrl or shift in the bottom right and tap each thing you want individually.
9:00 stop right there and you just made the cybertruck

how do you reselect the loop cut as a whole without manually selecting each edge again???
