I LOVE how they made the Xenomorph's transparent head a lot more visible so that you can see the endoskeleton that ultimately was what the drones' heads looked like in Aliens. Perhaps this movie will help show how the evolved look of the Xenomorph from the first movie to the second came to be.
There's no canon reason for it- James Cameron literally thought it looked more interesting without the transparent dome, and was worried about the domes getting damaged with the suit actors jumping and climbing around, so... yeah. I'm glad he made that decision though, 'Aliens' xenos are my favourite.
Aliens already did that but it was only explained in the book. Originally the alien in the first movie was coming to the end of its life and there wasn't going to be a sequel. But after the success of Alien, Fox really wanted another one, so when Cameron's idea came along he was allowed to change it, and decided the creature hubernates then the cramium falls off after a while revealing the aliens ridged head underneath that was always there. There was also another reason why Cameron favoured the ridged head to do with filming the guys in suits, but that's another story, the point of it all was to show the alien could in fact live for a long time and had a purpose.
ALL the Alien movies had a man in a suit for some shots. The prequels also did it with Covenant, while Prometheus had the Engineers plus a fully grown Deacon that ended up not being used.
You'd have better luck contacting and asking the director for it to not suck. Your imaginary friend can't help. Though, I do agree with the sentiment that I hope the movie doesn't suck.
This is the beauty of movie making. Hollywood please understand that this is what we want. The actors act better when there is something to act with not a big ol green screen mess.
I just watched the movie, it was okay, what i liked the most and looked amazing was the ambience, enviroment, looked very "Alien" like and realistic. Practical effects with layers of cgi on top was amazing.
The practical effects were so good and way better than modern, sloppy cgi. It felt grimy and real. I think it’s an awesome looking movie with lots of retro futurism.
which other Alien movie had no practical effect? cause they all bragged about having them. you sound like paid promotion to me cause I`m old, i was there for every single one of these movies. Even those AvP travesties had practical effects. They don´t make a movie better, a proper script does.

@Luchiop Alien 3 uses CGI as does Covenant. Its fine if used sparingly but those movies looked silly. Hopefully 99% of any CGI they use in this movie is for the saliva/liquid drips off the alien
I don't. I remember seeing "making of" specials on HBO and sometimes network TV back in the 80s/90s long before the movie came out. Not to mention articles in movie magaziness. It's done to build hype for a movie or promote it. Nothing new.
Watched Romulus tonight and I love this movie!! It has some flaws, but there is so much heart and detail and love for the Alien lore that you can’t help but love it. Excellent on the big screen.
At this point, getting practical effects, and their consistency, you might just save up a lot of money. Considering how hard it's getting to get a very good looking CGI things these days with all the changes in vision, reshoots ect. Good job on those effects Alien Romulus Team.

I cringe more and more every time they do this. I understand the hype but at this point it feels like it's being ruined fast. It's not often we get an aliens movie to entertain and thrill us but at this point it feels like I am going to go and see this movie for the 'missing bits'.
I saw Romulus yesterday and I love it. Absolutely the best movie in the franchise since ALIENS. The sets, the photography, the music, the cast, the effects. All absolutely brilliant. I will definitely buying this on 4K Sorry to correct Director Fede Alvarez, but Romulus is as he said, set 20 years after ALIEN. However its's 37, not 20, before ALIENS. 20 + 37 = 57, the amount of years Ripley was floating through space, before her capsule was found in ALIENS.
Amazing how much work they put into this movie and you can see it visually, it looks damn amazing. Just wish they would have put some effort into the dialogues as well, because that was really bad.
I didn't realize so much of the visual effects in this were practical. That's extremely impressive. I hope to go see this when it comes out. I know I won't be able to see it opening weekend though.

Just saw it and my god this film was intense and made me squirm so many times, the director Fede really knows how to hold you in on a scary sequence and even though you know what’s about to happen it’s still so gruesome yet captivating to see! Also the set pieces and VFX are astounding! I like where this is going with the Alien franchise 😁
7:10 while it's great see practical FX, that one doesn't look too convincing. Maybe they've laced over it with CG? Looks very robotic and plastic like.
@@Dude-oh8vq not Trynna be a dick but you do know 90 percent of practicals in all movies are pretty much enhanced with cg they even stated during this that they do things like add tails to the suits/ animatronics, make the crawling look more life like and fluid.
@@rSkraff I know that many films do, current films, but I got the impression with this one that the practical FX during filming wouldn't have CG added to it, at least not the Xenos and so on. What's odd is that some of the shots in the trailers look great with the Xenos, while others look like less than average animatronics that have yet to be painted over digitally. Either way, my butt is in the cinema next Wednesday! If I like the film, I'll go to the cinema a second time. Love these films, especially the first three, and I even enjoy Resurrection. Romulus will be the 7th film with the Xenos that I've seen in the cinema. Alien 3 was my first, back in 92' when I was about four feet tall, and I loved it!

No they weren't. Prometheus and Covenant were both primarily filmed using practical effects. Sir Riddles prefers it.

I think the practical fx look great. Then again, the practical stuff for The Thing (preqel) looked great, and we all know what happened there.
