I am a Cold Steel fan myself, and I have the 1st edition gold Drop Forged Survivalist. It had no handle scales, but I wrapped the handle with tennis and electrical tapes. The knife can cut, chop, whittle, etc! I love it and I have put it through some stuff! This knife, along with my GI Tanto and Tanto Machete, are my go to knives for hard core work in my yard and away from home. By the way, my cousin bought the 1st edition gold Drop Forged Bowie. Nice video and take care.

I am shocked - I actually like this knife. Handle scales with linen micarta would have been nice. Sheath is fugly but I guess for a budget knife its ok. I bet you 10 bucks someone makes custom scales if its possible to swap em out. Hell you could do it yourself and showcase it. Deer antler or maybe some sort of nice wood would look good. A custom leather sheath would be fun too. Someone could really pimp this knife out.

Back in the 90's my friend and I used to go to surplus stores looking for gear that wasn't expensive. One of the things we would look for was old knives. They usually were used and were not in pristine shape. Definitely still in decent shape. Usually we could get them at a very affordable price. Let's say way more affordable than brand new. So one day we're in the store and my friend says maybe we can find some good beater knives. Ever since then that's what I have called them. Great user knives that I'm not gonna cry over if it breaks or is lost. 🎅🎅🎅🎅

Just modify the handle scales. Unscrew them from the knife, and either spray paint them with something to give them a bit more grip and a solid color, or forgo them altogether and add a paracord or tennis/hockey tap wrap. I’m more interested in its weight and handling as well as performance and durability, than I am in how much someone does or doesn’t like the scales as they come from the factory. That’s one of the easiest fixes out there.

It is a 100% fighting Bowie and it is designed by Bill Bagwell. It is also meant too be used in the saber grip style. The sheath is made out of glass filled nylon and it duls the edge because of the glass particels. And those sheat are ugly as sin.
