- We're going to learn how to make our very own authentic, high-quality, way-past-cool Sonic the Hedgehog OCs! That way, we don't have to steal anyone else's.
All them zany fans of Sonic like making their own original character creations. They just don't like making 'em good! But we at The Harry Gold Show are here to help. We'll go through all the steps from how to choose what kind of character you want to make from how to make it totally authentically way past cool.*

I really like how, despite all the “oc’s” in this video being obvious jokes/memes/existing-characters, it actually gives some really good advice for drawing and designing characters in the sonic artstyle.

I love how you only chose characters with the naming convention "Name The Species". Not only does it fit and is funny, but in many cases it's also just a goofy naming convention. Like, "Name The Species" is comically uncreative and yet powerful at the same time, I don't know, I just really like it for some reason.

To be fair, SEGA was influenced by Mickey Mouse and the rubber-hose cartoon animals of other early Disney shorts. Especially using the iconic three-circles-make-the-mouse idea for Sonic's familiar jagged profile.

Besides that, SEGA compared to Nintendo is pretty small nowadays, so the possibility of Disney amalgamating the good ol' Seggie easily into it's already non-sensical amount of buyouts would be a pretty scare possibility.

Damn this character design analysis is dead on. Treacle the Echidna's feet will give me nightmares.
My personal favorite official Sonic character design is Mimic, who is an octopus. The reason why I love it is because he most likely doesn’t have a torso, or at least it is his head because octopus anatomy, and the large cloak he wears covers up where the torso should so they can use the format most characters have to use.
He’s from the IDW comics and is one of many characters original to the series. This is actually canon to the games and is general I fun read. I recommend it whether you like modern Sonic or not.

This is awesome! I've actually been working on creating a set of guidelines for every sonic species so that character designing fans can have a little reference to work from. The suggestions you make here fall in line with a lot of the 'research' I've conducted! Also, I love the vintage talk show aesthetic of the vid! 10/10

Finally! Someone with great art out of the box! I love it how you turned characters from other series into sonic character. I made my own by looking up exotic animals to put them out of the box, but dang! This is so clean, i'd very much like to know the art app, station.......Network, whatever bloody word its called. Ha! beautiful maestro just beautiful!

I'm about to enter a new chapter in my life, I'm entering a 3D animation school and I've never drawn anything since the third grade but this is the path I want to go my life has been heavily backed by so much Iconic stuff like Disney Pixar movies, video games cartoons and anime. I have to submit a portfolio of things I've drawn in the past and man unless I either go back in time and fetch my drawings or dumpster dive in whatever garbage dump they're in right now after so many years, I have to do something quick. The portfolio's due on the third of November. I thought to myself why not create a Mobian/sonic oc I have an idea but the thing is .. nobody taught me how to draw. Watching this video for something so serious in my life just shows me how fun and unserious art can be. I'm probably going to suffer learning how to draw in the beginning but I'm not gonna give up, I want produce content just like this video. I'm subbing thank you so much.
Edit: also do you have any videos for absolute beginers such as myself just to get the basics in for drawing coz uhh times kinda ticking for me on that portfolio I mentioned earlier 😅😅

I had an OC once. Then, one day I was bored and looked over all those dumb comics I made with the character. (Yes, I couldn’t even read it) That’s when I came up with an idea. “OC’s are always made as really nice and good people. So what if I take my OC and turn him into a drunk son of a gun pain in the butt…yes…Yes…YES!” Take that me from like…7 years ago.
Thank you for this amazing tutorial! I can't wait to get out there and start stealing! But since I'm talentless and lazy, but my character would be so good anyway, the random person I find on Deviant Art would be crazy not to draw a stranger's fake sonic character!

This video reminded me of one of the most unexpected facts in star wars Jabba the hut is surprisingly fast he wouldn't win a running race but he does go as fast as a snake rather than a slug but despite his resemblance to the the aforementioned gastropod he's got a closer biology to that of a snake wich becomes quite obvious once you search up pictures of his skeleton

It’s a bootleg graphic T-shirt so mostly just printed from somewhere else, as I don’t remember all the Mickey Mouse’s from this video but it had a similar design to yours,
but In a SA1 Sonic pointing at himself pose. There was even a green Sonic team logo printed and an old classic cartoony style of Sonic, If I ever get the chance I’ll you a photo. But it does have some pretty cool pants with normal Sonic on it.
