Just so you know Hermes is Ody's great grand father. And among the main greek gods he's the one who punishes mortals the least with Athena (if we don't count Ovid's very biased depiction of her). The both of them mainly help mortals (example : Perseus). You're not rly supposed to doubt him.
@@GOTGames Epic the musical is a modern interpretation of the Odyssey. The original is more of an action adventure that has a lot of bad luck in it. Epic the musical is goes more into a character drama/tragedy angle. Both are awesome for different reasons.

About the Holy Moly thing. It's a pun. That flower is a magical herb named Moly and Hermes is a god in possession of it. That's why he named it Holy Moly. It's literally Moly from a god.

Hermes does not like Odysseus in THAT way. The general view of Hermes is that he's a silly little guy, a goofy fella, the kinda guy you just love cuz he's fun. The artist just decided Hermes will give him a lil kiss is all.
Hermes is more than a god of messages. He's the Greek god equivalent of an overworked millennial. The delivery man for Zeus, as well as delivering souls to the underworld, as well as being a god of travel, herds, trickery, and much more. Man's schedule is packed, I'm surprised he had the spare time for messing around with his great grandson XD
So Hermes is Odysseus' great grandfather. He also used to be involved romantically with Circe. He also just enjoys helping humans with next to no strings attached for his own entertainment. So if you really think about it, Hermes is trolling his Ex with his great grandson for his own entertainment. Also Moly is a plant, and 'Holy Moly' is a phrase that's an exclamation of surprise. So Hermes is making a pun off the name of the plant and Divine Intervention
At least for this, Odysseus's men have an excuse: to mistreat a guest is a BIG no no and hospitality is sacred. They had no reason to doubt an invite to a meal and a soft bed to rest. Every god in greek mithology is neither good or bad, but depending on their mood or their wants they can be very nasty. Fun fact, Hermes is actually the great grandparent of Odysseus. It's not too uncommon to have a godly relative if you are a Greek Hero.
Gigi as an animator is known for doing fantastic spinning shots, but to me the spinning shot in Puppeteer has to take the cake for the way that it smoothly spins while also bouncing back and forward between 2 different scenes. That's the sort of shot that would be praised in a big budget anime Also, as others have said: Hospitality was a big part of Greek culture. If someone came to your house you invited them in, fed them, gave them a room to stay in, treated them well. If you didn't you risked annoying the God of Hospitality, who just so happened to also be Zeus. (I think it's sometimes Hera too, but either way one of the big ones). In fact sometimes the Gods would simply go from place to place to test the residents. If they felt they weren't treated well enough, then too bad. You've been cursed. So it makes perfect sense, given the context, that the soldiers took Circe's offer of hospitality at face value.
Sad story one of them men died and nobody knew because he fell down and died before the men were turned to pigs so he went unnoticed and was just chalked up to being turned to a pig so one man died and none of his friends knew or were around to mourn him
Funny you should ask if it is a book. The source material is Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey" which describe Odysseus' journey home from the Trojan war. Hermes is actually Odysseus' great-grandfather, so it makes sense that Ody would trust him. It is a little weird seeing Hermes being flirtatious with him for this reason, but I'll guess the animatic creator didn't know this fact.
Anniflamma’s ‘There are Other Ways’ isn’t completely explicit, but it does lean more into Circe’s way to gain the upper hand. It directly follows Anni’s ‘Done For’, which is pretty significant if you want to see how she continues to interpret the story. Anni’s version is my personal favorite of the two.

HERMEEEEEESSS!!!! THATS MY BOY!!! My favorite character, and his VA Troy is really just him in another body i swear.(His original music is SO FUN TO LISTEN TO!!) Love them both to pieces❤
Hermes is actually Odysseus' great grandfather! He's also not just the messenger of the gods, he's also the protector of the travellers and he just genuinely likes to engage with mortals for the sole purpose of having a good time
Im loving your reactions to these dude!! Just so you know even thoufh these may not seem as popular as your other videos, Epic also isnt as super well known, so I'm sure you reactimg to this is also reating new fans to the musical!! Please react to these more often, or react saga by saga, because you are my FAVORITE reactor amd i cannot wait to see these come out ❤❤❤
So Epic: The Musical is based on The Odyssey by Homer, I'm not sure how good the book itself is as it's OLD, and it wasn't even written down until much MUCH later from when the events are meant to take place, not to mention translations, and I haven't read it personally. As for Circe's VA, she is not british, it's just an accent she put on for Circe's character. Her name is Talya Sindel (Fun fact, she and Jorge are actually dating, they met through Epic when she auditioned for Circe.)
Hermes is like Joker, an agent of chaos. He helps people just because it would be interesting to see what happens. Also, Odysseus is technically related to Hermes.
Not only are the Odyssey and Illiad "books" (long epic poems), but they are often taught in schools. World Lit 1 courses might have them as assigned book readings. I bet there are probably classes just about them.
If you want to read the Odyssey I recommend the recent translation by Emily Wilson. It's all in modern and easy to understand English, and the authors notes at the beginning give a lot of great context. She also wrote everything in iambic pentameter to keep the rhythmic feel of the original Greek poem, she even kept to the same number of lines. Fantastic and very approachable translation
Hermes is also the god of travelers, so it makes sense for him to take an interest in Odysseus. He’s one of those gods that has multiple things he’s in “charge” of. He’s also the god of thieves!
Not "CIRCLE", It's "CIRCE". Hermes is Odysseus' Great-grandfather so they're family. Hermes does all of this just for the fun of it, he's a chaotic god, doing stuff on a whim. He's also Circe's ex-boyfriend...
In Ancient Greece there were actually a lot of laws around hospitality. It was socially the norm to accept men into your home and make sure they have access to food, shelter, bathing, etc. and be very welcoming, regardless of who they are. So it actually wouldn't have seemed all that strange for Circe to welcome them into her home, adding onto the fact that they hadn't seen women for quite a while.
Hermes actually has a wiiiiiiiide range of domains. Yes he is the messenger of the gods, but he is also the god of Herding, Lies, Merchants, Thieves and the patron god of Travelers. There are quite a few more domains I haven't mentioned yet as well but yeah, he's quite a versatile god. Hermes often just appears to mortals and demigods and gives them stuff for shits and giggles. He's an agent of chaos haha. He usually doesn't expect anything in return. Circe and Hermes are also ex-lovers lmao, AND Hermes is Odysseus' great-grandfather lol
Hermes is just helping here. Also!! Hermes is also the God of Trickery, thievery, merchants, and paths! While he isn't tricking Odysseus or anything, he is depicted as playful and childish, not to mention that he is leading Odysseus on his path. :>
Hermes is indeed the messenger god but also the god of travelers. Odysseus and his crew fall under that definition, but also Circe is already due some divine retribution for tricking previous travelers. Also also, according to some sources he's Odysseus' great-grandfather, so have fun getting that outta your head along with the animatic you watched lol
"I dunno who's bad and who's good all the gods seem a little fucked up" bro summed up all of Greek mythology 😭 Also Hermes personality is very playful so that translates as flirty ish in the song (Hes also Ody's like great grandfather which is hilarious)
I love Circe, she's a goddess and a witch (and knowing everything she went through before she got to this point on this island, I totally understand why she does what she does). And I agree, the vocalist for her has such a good voice! Hermes is just such a funny god, truly a messy king that loves chaos.
"Can he be trusted? I don't know which gods are good and which gods are bad" Welcome to Greek myth lol. In short; trust no one. Who's good? Everyone. Who's bad? Everyone. The gods are very human in the sense that they're all very fickle on a lot of points and have the power to take things to the extremely bad or be extremely helpful. Some are more predictable than others. The relatable thing about a lot of older pantheons is that they can be very human in their reactions. Especially human to the time they were relevant to. It happens to all faiths that live long enough.
So yes, as many mentioned. This whole musical is based on the book The Odyssey. Differences here and there but the major plot points pretty much line up. That said, I'm one of many people who enjoyed greek mythology but HATED reading the Odyssey in high school. I didn't enjoy the writing or how long it was. I know many who felt the same. Epic really is what made me fall in love with the story. It's similar to Hamilton where most people kind of knew about Alexander Hamilton vaguely, but the musical invested them.
Hermes is a helpful trickster who loves bolstering the little guy to bust the egos of arrogant monsters. And yeah, he's totally flirting with our boy Ody. The ancient Greeks were universally thirsty and gender was basically a non-issue. As for Circe... well, you'll see in the next two songs.
Have you watched 'Alien Stage'? It's a short animated youtube series and has a very good music and story. If you decided to watch it, don't go to the latest release or you'll be confused. There is a playlist.
Ima hold your hand when I say this, but this is based on ‘The Odyssey’ by Homer, a book lol. It’s technically a poem, but it’s written. The original story is from the 7th or 8th century BC, so quite old. I’ve never seen anyone that’s never heard of ‘The Odyssey’, most people read it in high school, well, at least here in America. It’s very very well known. Also, while EPIC the musical follows ‘The Odyssey’ for the most part, it is a musical retelling after all, some things are different. So while they are pretty close, some events are either left out or play out differently than they do in the original story. If you want to know the original story then search up ‘The Odyssey’ by Homer. You can find videos explaining or find the texts on Google, you can also just buy the book for yourself.
Great reaction as always. In all this musical Hermes is probably one of my favorite characters. This musical made made me go look up the voice of him and started following his music now.
This is based on The Odyssey by Homer (who also did another called the Iliad - about the Trojan War). There are a lot of translations of The Odyssey but Stephen Fry has done a series of books about the Greek myths - Mythos (about the Gods and first men); Heroes (about the Greek heroes including Jason and the Argonauts, Perseus and Theseus amongst others); Troy (about the Trojan War) and then just out is Odyssey - which is all about Odysseus and the Odyssey. They are great to read and have Stephen's usual dry humour throughout
I honestly love how much you're picking up on and thinking about the character of Odysseus. This whole musical is about his character and what he's willing to do to get home, I think you are going to have so many amazing thought once you reach The Underworld saga and The Thunder saga, I can't wait!! For the actual story of The Odyssey, you can read the origanal translated to english (there are many pdfs you can get for free or you could buy a copy, all depending on the translator). For movies about it, there is The Odyssey (1997) which is a two parter, I think it's really good adaptation, but strays in some places from the original. There is l'odissee (1968) which is in french but does a really good job at potraying what happens. There is also Troy (2004) which is highly debated on if it's a good adaptation of The Illiad (specifically because of Achilles and Patroclus' relationship) but I think it does a good job whith Odysseus' personality. Also Troy: Fall of a City, personally a much better adaptation of The Illiad (minor some things) and also has Odysseus in it and does a better job at his character, really shows his strengths and struggles. AND there is a new movie coming out this year about The Odyssey!! *The Return*, I am very exited to see what it does! !! Reminder !! that all of these are based on the original text so stuff from Epic wont be included (polites is a side character that isn't important to the story, what happens with Circe, ect.) but hopefully you will still enjoy them!
Hermes is an interesting one, he’s never really on anyone’s side, hes definitely more leaning to the side of good but he loves to be mischievous. When i think of Hermes it seems like the main thing he wants is entertainment, this would be so entertaining to him because he’s actually really really good friends with Circe, he’s basically just trolling Circe but also odyssey is like his great great grandson. So he doesn’t want Odysseus to die and that’s probably why he’s helping him, this also isn’t like a betrayal to Circe tho, seems like it would be but he’s known to play tricks on absolutely everyone, he’s not only the messenger god but also the god of mischief too.
You're not wrong, the gods especially loved frolicking around with a bunch of people, regardless of gender, but in this case it's just Hermes being Hermes, he's known to aid adventurers, tricksters, heroes and such for entertainment/amusement/just because he likes to.

Thanks for the video, I've been waiting for it!
I hope you like the journey so far
More to go!
Update: If I'm not mistaken, Circe's singer isn't British. As I heard, she just imitated that British accent and honestly, she nailed it
And also, Jorge and Circe's vocalist are dating in real life, which only adds to the atmosphere of this saga
HERMEEEEEESSS!!!! THATS MY BOY!!!
My favorite character, and his VA Troy is really just him in another body i swear.(His original music is SO FUN TO LISTEN TO!!) Love them both to pieces❤
In the book Hermes warn ody and Circe lmao. Anyways, sure is a bold move from Hermes to flirt with his great grandson, but I don’t judge the gods
The name Circe is most likely familiar to you because of Circe Lanister from GoT
FINALLY! I thought you dropped Epic 😭😭
nah, he just seems to react to it like once a week or once every 10ish days from what I'm seeing.
Hermes is actually Odysseus' great grandfather! He's also not just the messenger of the gods, he's also the protector of the travellers and he just genuinely likes to engage with mortals for the sole purpose of having a good time
Maybe as a British person that's why this sagas my favorite lol.
Now you can watch season 1 of Hermes and Jay don't watch season 2 as spoilers.
Fun fact: Talya Syndel, voice of Circe is actually Jorge's girlfriend! They met after she auditioned!
"These guys are an army of children. Find a palace with a mysterious voice and you go on in???"
*circe starts singing*
"im just a man"
Im loving your reactions to these dude!!
I love your reactions to epic cannot wait for the next one
Hermes is like Joker, an agent of chaos. He helps people just because it would be interesting to see what happens. Also, Odysseus is technically related to Hermes.
Please PLEASE watch Anniflama' animatics for the next 2 songs! She's amazing
Not only are the Odyssey and Illiad "books" (long epic poems), but they are often taught in schools. World Lit 1 courses might have them as assigned book readings. I bet there are probably classes just about them.
these two are some of my favorites in the whole musical
Odyssey’s is Hermes descendent so that could be why he helped him, Circe and Hermes were a thing in some myths so he’s just fucking with his ex
The reason Ody is so trusting of Hermes is because Hermes is one of the gods who give mortals help with no cost just for his own entertainment
For the next saga the underworld saga theres only 3 and they all connect you should watch all three at once
"I dunno who's bad and who's good all the gods seem a little fucked up" bro summed up all of Greek mythology 😭
Also Hermes personality is very playful so that translates as flirty ish in the song (Hes also Ody's like great grandfather which is hilarious)
cant wait for you to see the next saga, tho the 2 remaining songs from circe's saga are some of the best too
I love Circe, she's a goddess and a witch (and knowing everything she went through before she got to this point on this island, I totally understand why she does what she does). And I agree, the vocalist for her has such a good voice!
Hermes is just such a funny god, truly a messy king that loves chaos.
"is there a book on this" yes, and I know Stephen Fry narrated the audiobook of the odyssey lol
The voice of Circe is actually dating the voice of Odysseus, the creator of the musical
"Can he be trusted? I don't know which gods are good and which gods are bad"
Welcome to Greek myth lol.
Yes yes more please :D your reactions are super fun to watch💜
Hermes is a helpful trickster who loves bolstering the little guy to bust the egos of arrogant monsters.
And yeah, he's totally flirting with our boy Ody. The ancient Greeks were universally thirsty and gender was basically a non-issue.
As for Circe... well, you'll see in the next two songs.
Have you watched 'Alien Stage'? It's a short animated youtube series and has a very good music and story. If you decided to watch it, don't go to the latest release or you'll be confused. There is a playlist.
LOL "All the good ones (Odysseus' men) are dead!" 😆Accurate
With the new saga's release, the hype around this show has only increased
I FLIPPIN LOVE YOUR REACTIONS
«they are dumb children» woman shows up «i get it. would do the same» 😅
You hating all his men🤣🤣 you’d love to hear about Elpenor damn dodo birds
Who?🤣🤣(Yes the double was intended)
@ omg🤣😭
Believe it or not, Circe’s actress isn’t British! She puts on an accent when singing for Circe and I love the way it fits the character
Hermes and Circe are exes, so you can imagine he wanted to mess with her
The voice actor for Circe isn’t actually British if I remember correctly. She’s also Jorge’s girlfriend ❤ (that’s the guy who voices Ody)
You're not wrong, the gods especially loved frolicking around with a bunch of people, regardless of gender, but in this case it's just Hermes being Hermes, he's known to aid adventurers, tricksters, heroes and such for entertainment/amusement/just because he likes to.
Hermes is the god of travel.
And Ody has been travelling quite a lot.
So excited for the underworld saga
Fun fact: The voice actor for Circe is Jorge's girlfriend (I believe the fruits of love blossomed after she was casted).
"Have they landed in England?" There's no way. The place looks way too sunlit to be England. 😜
Hermes is actually Odysseus's great grandfather
