One thing I LOVE about Storm is the musical foreshadowing that you dont really pick up on bc it just seems like a regular thing to be in a song of that nature. The giant choral vocals as the waves crash SEEM normal bc they’d typically be used to signify a large force of nature aka an act of God .By nature of the music in Epic, if you’re hearing a chorus and there’s no diagetic source that means something immortal is involved. The song is telling you that this storm is Divine as soon as it starts.
Imagine being me, an Epic fanatic, having watched just about every Epic reaction out there, then stumbling upon this video. It's 5 hours, and it took me like 3 days to get through the whole thing because life, but get through it I did. The amount of astute observations was insane, things I have not seen a single other reactor ever find and things I hadn't even thought about (Ody's mum's piano being a slowed down and key changed version of Ody's main guitar theme blew my mind!). Imagine my shock when I hear that reactions like this are not your normal content. Ody’s apology in Ruthlessness is the closest you’ll get from a Greek. Apparently Ancient Greeks didn’t have a concept of apology. Poseidon literally asked for the impossible from him.
Indeed. Instead, they had Apologia; to explain your actions and why you took them, in the hopes the wronged/accusing party accepts your reasoning and justifications. I would say it is less that Poseidon asked the impossible of him, given the time period and mentality back then, and more that he was sowing false hope. "The line between naivety and hopefulness is almost invisible" could be taken as "I gave you the chance to explain yourself, but did you really think I would accept your reasoning for what you did?" where Odysseus was either hopeful, or naive, in thinking a god he had already disrespected several times (Using the effigy of a horse, Poseidon's sacred animal, to infiltrate and then sack the city of Troy with Athena's guidance whom I believe legends say he did not get along with one bit, not offering tributes/sacrifices before sailing the seas that are his domain "I've been so gracious"... And then dishonoring his son by leaving his son mutilated but alive, as though Polyphemus weren't even worthy of the effort to take his life.) would possibly even give any consideration as to Odysseus' reasoning for his actions. This is just one potential interpretation though; I love hearing others too 'cause there's so much food for thought here and the mind gets to feast so well!

I was just saying that because everyone is like “oh that wasn’t a real apology” and I’m just like “that’s the closest you can get from him!” Also I’m sure these immortals that are thousands of years old have some idea of an apology. I know this comment is 3 weeks old now but (Act 2 spoilers in case) even if Ancient Greeks "didn't have a concept of apology" Eurylochus says "I'm so sorry" in Act 2. I'm pretty sure Epic goes with a modern interpretation of Ancient Greece and not how it actually was back then. Unless Eurylochus is a time traveler from modern times. Obviously you can interpret the musical whatever way you want but I don't personally think Jorge thought to make this a realistic potrayal of Ancient Greece

Ngl, I love polyphemus even as a song. Was my favourite for a long time before being dethroned by 'there are other ways'. Guess I am just someone who loves stories being told by songs. Awesome analysis. Gained yourself a subscriber❤
And We're glad to hear you enjoy it! By all means for us it was never a "bad" song as it still has a bunch of tension and like you said, tells a pretty pivotal moment in the story!
When Odysseus is giving his spiel to Polyphemus, about how he brought his situation upon himself, it also suits the lyrics from Just A Man “When does the reason become the blame?” The reason they blinded Polyphemus was to escape the cave, but then Odysseus was essentially telling Polyphemus that his actions were to blame for him being permanently crippled… or something like that, lol. When I was listening to your therapy comparison to that part, “when does the reason become the blame?” came to mind Edit: a better comparison to those lyrics maybe is that the reason Polyphemus attacked them at all was bc they killed his favorite sheep, and then Ody is saying that him attacking them is to blame for his being blinded, when technically they started it? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Here two Greek mythology facts in one Greek origin myth (I think it’s one of Aphrodite’s but I have heard that it could be Pandora instead) women are a curse put onto men by Zeus, and here’s a sad fact about everyone that died in the Odyssey are stuck on the wrong side of the River Styx because they never received the proper funeral rights. Here an Epic the Musical fact according to Jorge Circe and Hermes use to be in a relationship and Jorge’s mom would start crying during recording because she realized that Jorge would out live her.
We did our reaction to what's out of act 2 so far (the vod will be out next week), when the final saga comes out We'll have a gander at that as well as some other animatics we'd not seen and other material from epic like Jay's explanations on things whenever that ends up happening!
Musically, you + Nick Flipp are my favorite reactors. Historically, Patrol Nation is fantastic for breaking down the actual Odyssey and how Jorge integrated/interpreted the story.
so im not 100% sure but i thnik one of the reasons that Poseidon is associated with horses was bc horses were born from the sea as well as the hippocampus. As well as the word for Ship and horse in ancient Greece were very simillar if not the same (i might be wrong about that)
I dont know if they told him this, but I've heard this is how the greeks apologize back then, like justify to me your actions and I would give you a judgment-- i decide whether or not if your justification make sense
Ppl really need to stop equating the sheep with a dog , polyphemus ate those sheep himself and iirc the sheep were a trap for men anyway so even if they didnt kill a sheep poly would have still killed them
Ah but having character growth means sometimes your character has to start in a place that isnt great. Athena's assertiveness and callous strictness gives her the chance to then reflect on it later. Its a nice touch!

If I took a shot every time you said "the enfant and the horse" I'd be in a coffin already 😂
On a more serious tone, really great reaction/analysis video. Love your voice too!
It got in our head that "The Infant and the Horse" sounds better and couldn't NOT say it x-x
The chanting in no longer you has spoilers for the next songs:
-Sirens song
-Scyla's throat
-Mutiny
-Lightning bolt
-Fight poseidon
-Kill all the suitors for love
How on earth are you picking up on things I haven't noticed on dozens of listings and many many other reactions. You are unbelievably epic
We tried to treat it like a puzzle. Nothing is put in 'just because'. When you find something, you just gotta keep asking "okay, but why?" a buncha times!
Baffled at the way you catch so many motifs so easily, this might be my favorite epic reactions and analyses!! I cant wait to see you cover the rest :D
37:02 The chat "You can remember Polites Name because the first letter is the same as Pancake" I know what you did there...
4 songs in so far and I'm really enjoying your reaction and analysis. So much fun to find so much enjoyment!
this was one of the best reaction and analysis I've seen! Had so much fun watching this.
By all means for us it was never a "bad" song as it still has a bunch of tension and like you said, tells a pretty pivotal moment in the story!
awesome reaction, you caught so many things! it'd be nice if the song audio was a bit louder though
You said you didnt hear the danger motif in Survive, but it was hidden in the chant of "Po-Ly" "Phe-Mus"
I need your reactions to act 2 now!!!
I GO WATCH THEM NOW
Idk if this is something that's been confirmed, but I thought the choir in Monster was the spirits of the Underworld lol, like it was in No Longer You
It’s so jarring hearing the old songs compared to the re-recorded ones. The quality change is so crazy
2:05:33 Im pretty sure that time signature is a 5/7 time key: said as 1212 123
I'm always down for more Epic reactions! Bring on Act 2!
When I was listening to your therapy comparison to that part, “when does the reason become the blame?” came to mind
Edit: a better comparison to those lyrics maybe is that the reason Polyphemus attacked them at all was bc they killed his favorite sheep, and then Ody is saying that him attacking them is to blame for his being blinded, when technically they started it?
In Puppeteer there's a foreshadowing of the melody for Legendary
I really can’t wait for the parts too, even though the last saga hasn’t came out yet. I guess you will wait until everything will drop?
We did our reaction to what's out of act 2 so far (the vod will be out next week), when the final saga comes out We'll have a gander at that as well as some other animatics we'd not seen and other material from epic like Jay's explanations on things whenever that ends up happening!
I love your laugh man it's so joyous
Musically, you + Nick Flipp are my favorite reactors. Historically, Patrol Nation is fantastic for breaking down the actual Odyssey and how Jorge integrated/interpreted the story.
Great video, commentary and reaction. I can't wait for part 2
Thank you for your name and address... cant do anything with that info 1:43:46
Underworld will forever fuck me up 💔
so im not 100% sure but i thnik one of the reasons that Poseidon is associated with horses was bc horses were born from the sea as well as the hippocampus. As well as the word for Ship and horse in ancient Greece were very simillar if not the same (i might be wrong about that)
36:50 WHOEVER SAID THAT IN CHAT IS DIABOLICAL
SAYING THAT DURING SOMEONE'S FIRST LISTEN THROUGH, THAT IS DIABOLICAL BEHAVIOUR.
I LOVE how he has a good knowledge of the odyssy, is it oddyssy or oddyssey?
odyssey with one d, you had it 🤗
A Greek apology is an explanation as to why you did it
you sound WAYYY too much like my band teacher 😂
Well, We can 100% confirm We are defiantly not your band teacher and you should not slyly reference this to us- I mean them next time you see this...
Hermes ❤️❤️
I just love him so much!
1:42:53 I'm having Mortius flashbacks lol
Only a little bit into the video, but this is really good so far!!
I dont know if they told him this, but I've heard this is how the greeks apologize back then, like justify to me your actions and I would give you a judgment-- i decide whether or not if your justification make sense
We have been informed of this now and its good to know! It's also great to see how much attention to detail was put it!
You love puzzle games and putting loads of information together? Something tells me you would LOVE outer wilds!!!
That is something thats on our radar! Just gotta find the time to fit it in!
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME PANCAKE IS WILD 1:29:20
fuuuuuuu** its 5am i got absorbed in this way too much
And for that you have our apologies! If it helps to know, Act 2's reaction is only 4 and a half hours!
@@UltraSonicArchives the 20min difference is going be the last saga 😂
@@UltraSonicArchives hah! well, its 22:30 and i'm just starting your Act 2 VOD, we'll see
love this reaction 🤍
I see you're going to use the "Orange" version of Dangerous. It's SO GOOD!
Yes. Yes it is.
Ppl really need to stop equating the sheep with a dog , polyphemus ate those sheep himself and iirc the sheep were a trap for men anyway so even if they didnt kill a sheep poly would have still killed them
im sad he watched some different animatics that show athena more aggresive and he understood athena wrong
Ah but having character growth means sometimes your character has to start in a place that isnt great. Athena's assertiveness and callous strictness gives her the chance to then reflect on it later. Its a nice touch!
Does this man miss anything?? 😂
Rewatching your reactions until you watch the ithica saga 😢 (this is my 3rd time)
The Ithaca saga was incredible, the vod will be on here on the 10th ^-^
*Noncorporial sound vtuber*
Interest piqued.
Points on my goodbye.....athena was 100 percent correct it was and will always be odys fault especially for what happens after
Also I hate mirchy(?) Animation cause Athena would have wiped the floor with ody if it came to blows it wouldn't even be close
