I hope we get elements of "Pick Me" in the Iliad musical if Jorge decides to make it. I'd love to see his take on the Oath of Tyndareus! "Pick Me" was a good start to that!
The cut song "light inside" I imagine it's Telamachus walking in on odysseus after he's slain or while he's in the middle of slaying all the suitors....and of course it's something that has to be done and the whole time telamachus had this whole fantasy of himself being the hero to do it if his dad never came back but seeing the reality of what it actually takes the "ruthlessness" that he just dosent have makes him scared of his dad.
There have been two versions of EPIC's Poseidon. Originally, he was a father enraged for his son, but he was pretty quickly rewritten into a man DEFINED by his pride. Draft 1 of In Vain is clearly the first incarnation of Poseidon, where draft 2 is the second. Honestly, I like both more than Get in the Water lol
54:37 This song is interesting! I can see it having an animatic where Odysseus uses his body language to say _"love is"_ and then turns his back to Calypso and his expression immediately becomes flat with red eyes as he finishes with the same enthusiasm but different expression _"in the air"_
athena used to be the actual narrator of the show, that's why she's used like that in ismarus! before the troy saga was even close to releasing we used to listen to the old versions of the first few songs and full speed ahead also started with her narration. as helen's biggest fan, i'll argue she's not really "unfaithful". since we don't have the exact story of her kidnapping we can only say aphrodite promised her to paris, and taking into account her track record plus women rights back then being non-existent we can guess it probably wasn't very consensual on her part, especially considering she seemed to love menelaus and when we see her in the iliad she hates paris lol (though you could argue the love just faded there). helen was also kidnapped once before paris, when she was around twelve years old or less, because theseus wanted to marry her and decided taking her and waiting for her to grow up was good enough. my girl went through A LOT and we can't even know for certain how much agency she had in her own story! i wouldn't say odysseus dodged a bullet either, the pact that technically caused the trojan war was his idea in the first place aknsks without it he wouldn't have had to fight at all
I am SO glad that he found his own voice, you still catch notes of the Hamilton inspired parts but no where near what it seemed to start off with.... the cut songs are soooo good, I can definitely see why they were cut but the fact that a lot of them were a bop in general they'll always hold a special place for me.
45:33 I LOVE TRICK ITS SO SILLY AND A VIBE also I think it was supposed to replace not sorry for loving you with Ody talking to calypso after she says he can leave “someone arrived today, they said they’re taking you away”
For the Telemechus song, I've personally been calling it "Oceans in My Eyes", and from what I know about the Odyssey, I think this song is him talking to Odysseus before they fight the suitors. Because in the original mythology (and maybe EPIC, but we don't know yet) Odysseus and Telemechus work together to kill them, so I think this is Telemechus being unsure about killing for the first time, and asking his dad for advice.
@@fridadowney561 true!! tbh it's still possible it could happen in one of the remaining songs bc we've only heard snippets from them (other than the challenge ofc)
22:35 is my favorite of all of them, I had the one line to go off of for a while before I became a Patreon, and that line alone conveyed so much hype, in ONE line. Edit: In vain has tied for it at 59:31
I am so happy Epic turned out to be much different. I've got so much respect for the fact Jay found his own style. To me there will never be a musical that can top Epic. But back to the cut songs. Listening to most of the cut songs makes me realise I wouldn't love Epic as much as I do now if he kept most of the cut songs. They just don't feel special.
These songs to the show now is such a shift from telling the story of the books, to being a story of its own. Both in the sense of the storytelling being new, as well as the characters being characters, rather than narrators.
29:30 Perimedes does have some speaking parts in the musical we got. He is the one that stabs Odysseus in "Mutiny" and he is the lead voice of "How are we supposed to trust you now, now... and then we died on it, woah" And also in "Keep Your Friends Close": PERIMEDES: "Captain what's happening?" PERIMEDES and ELPENOR: "What's tucked in that bag?" These are, I believe, the only parts he speaks (or rather sings) in the final musical. And fun fact: the voice actor of Antinuous (Ayron Alexander) is the one that voiced Perimedes, and Luke Holt (voice of Zeus) voiced Elpenor. 31:06 The friend is Perimedes from what I understood from others' comments elsewhere
I like "Be Mine" because I like to believe Telemachus is a lot like Odysseus when he was young which is why it feels like a Telemachus song. Athena just keeps having to deal with these goofy, loveable boys with the potential to become great and wise men.
I think Apetite (or at least the first part) totally could have made its way into Not Sorry for Loving You. Also the Aphrodite and Athena rap battle low key was so good😂 Also JUSTICE FOR OLIVE TREE
I like the idea of Athena reusing Zeus' dogma of the blood being on Odysseus' hands as a way to call back to his trauma and serve to further reinforce his distancing of her.
I believe in an older draft of the show, Man Of The House was the ending of the Underworld Saga? Not entirely sure, I recommend looking into it yourself!
In "Cope With That" im pretty sure it was Peremedes singing again and Elpenor was the one sleeping on top of Circe's palace. And then when they meet him again in the Underworld, he said he woke up and fall off because he thought they forget about him and were about to leave him (which they were)
Maybe the original Man of the House was the act one closer of the Iliad act one. It would sorta end by introducing the audience to Odysseus in much more detail. Idk just my thoughts.
That's actually incorrect, Man of The House was *still* gonna be in musical till almost the very end of the draft we know canonically, the original Man of The House draft before it got scrapped was supposed to be indeed taking place after Tiresias's prophecy, where Odysseus gets a huge ass flashback of how his life was and his mistakes he's made, and truly realising that he needs to change whom he was and become the monster (yes, Man of The House ends with Odysseus accepting Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves like canon Monster.)
This whole ‘tooawkwrd cut song react, take down, video edit, edit back’ saga was my weirdest era in this fandom Which is good that this fandom is so normal
I know Jay has talked about doing some non-canon specials using the characters and I would honestly love to see the gods have a rap battle as one of those separate things.
It makes a lot of sense to me how Athena is explaining stuff in Ismarus because based on the original beginning of Epic, with her speaking the Invocation, I think originally she was supposed to have the role of narrator throughout the whole musical
Perimedes slaps so hard, and I'll be honest I prefer In vain way more than Get In The Water If Jorge ever releases a cut song saga, which he has stated to have at least the intention to do, this will be my more anticipated I think
@@laultimarebanada well, that’s basically impossible, because there’s about 80 cut songs and some of them didn’t even have a final revision. But if he did release all of them, then Jorge must be some sort of witch.
Yeah as cool as some songs were, I'm glad the one we got, especially Odysseus, the cut version sounds very incompetent and feels like there would have been an early mutiny, while the one we have now, that one I can see why 600 men follow, even if he later screws himself over, I can still feel the Odysseus we got cares for Eurylochus and his follow men, even after the mutiny, though I do wish Olive Tree stayed but I trust the last song will be beautiful! great video man!
As far as I can see, the scrapped songs feel very similar to the Hamilton Musical when the dialogues take a descriptive tone when sh*t goes down, and they're fine, but it's true that EPIC's official songs style work much better in the moments where tensions are high. They all sound more epic, pun intended.
I really like the idea of young Odysseus being more like Lin Manuel Maranda because it could be seen as a reference to have Jay's old style was a lot more like Lins when he was younger and starting out.
27:32 - 28:01 At first I laughed because of how ridiculous it sounded, and then I started laughing at myself because I THOUGHT THEY WERE SAYING "HUMMINGBIRD" NOT _AMBUSH_ LMAOOOOO Guess I still have the Spider-verse soundtrack floating around in my brain, cause that took me a minute xD
I love man of the house, oh my goodness I love man of the house. The melody alone is beautiful and seeing a young Odysseus pine for Penelope is so sweet. But the start of the song where he says his dad starts to go insane really touches me on a personal level. My grandma has lost much of who she used to be in her old age so lines “where is he? Where is the man who was larger than life? Where is he? Where is the man who was sharp as a knife” just really hit hard for me. Everything about the song is great and I really want him to release it in a cut song saga
I'm pretty sure Trick is when Calypso tells Ody he can leave. At least that's what it firs comes to mind because in the actal Odyssey he thinks Calypso is planning something to crush his hopes of leaving once he gets on his raft
Ive heard of eurylochus' ver of man of the house but I've never seen this vid and now I'm cackling coz did they record this during Steven's wedding?? Coz Im pretty sure this was what jay was wearing in the vids and pics they posted during Steven's wedding
I need a song of Hades reacting to the sudden increase in souls in Hades due to poseidon. maybe Hades comes by Poiseidon after 600 strikes, just making a fool out of him. that would be fun.
Perimedes still has some minor importance in the official track, other than Odysseus and Eurylochus, he's the only soldier in "Mutiny" that has a line to himself, and according the live stream, he's also the one who stabbed Odysseus before Ody could finish Eurylochus, this was also comfirmed by Jorge/Jay. And about the line part, the live stream has Perimedes say "How are we supposed to trust you now?" Before the rest of the crew joined him for "Now, your time has come your lucks run out" and so on
Personally, I believe that Jorge should put the instrumentals of some of the more prominent cut songs at the end of the animated movie during the credits, those like the hades section, appetite, your light and finally Olive tree to close out the credits. That would make people wait until the end and watch the credits but also be a perfect homage to all the work and changes Epic has endured. Also, a couple visual things that would be cool in the movie (no relation, just something I wanted to voice) is, firstly, when ares shows up in god games, he enters the quick thought by zombie reaching up and pulling his way out of Athena’s head as a reference towards Athena’s birth but also to explain the pained cry of “Ares!” (Yes I have heard it’s suppose to be anger, not pain, but I can’t get the image of Teagan holding her head in agony in that old clip out of my head). Next, oppose to many people, I really liked the jetpack wind bag, but I don’t think it should stay a jetpack the whole time. It would be cool if he rode it like a hoverboard at some parts or even just was dragged behind as it zipped around. If it was something dynamic like that, it would make for cooler dodging and action as he slices up Poseidon. Also, I saw this somewhere on an animatic, but giving Tiresias a face that looks like a shifting mercury mirror would be so cool, so it reflected Odysseus current state and showed him the suffering first hand. Idk
I see why alot of these were cut however i would love to see a saga completely dedicated to penelope and Oddyseus relationship/how it started (like a 'love' saga) it could either go before the first saga and the trou saga would become 2nd OR it actually could be right before the last saga as like a flashback saga so when we do meet the CURRENY penelope we can see how SHE changed or what values she kept and which she lost. It could be (revised versions obviously) be mine (with a few changes to the end of the song), Pick me, then maybe either a song when telemachus is born or a song where Oddy is telling penelope that he has to go to war (could even be olive tree but like when he originally sang it to her! Like just change the tense for some lines) Imo it would help develop penelope so the audience could SEE why ody loved her so much and what made her so special. Thats like my only critique of epic- they make penelope such a crucial character but we only get 1 REAL PURE penelope song? (im not counting the siren). GIVE MY GIRL SOME SCREEN TIME XD
I was also surprised about Man of the House originally being the act 1 closer. If I listened to the song without context and was asked where I thought it was supposed to go, my guess would have been towards the end right before Odysseus, with him reflecting on his early life and how he got here, right before finishing the job.
What tier on the patreon do you have to be to get access to the cut songs and where would they be? 😅 i never even knew about this and that there are extended versions of cut song clips he posted on tiktok and it’s awesome
i love cope with that because both perimedes's song and elpenor's cut section of the underworld are both really inherently silly and are treated as so like jay but then cope with that comes along and is like "wait, these two characters actually have depth to them though"
Jorge did look towards artists such as Lin Manuel Miranda and especially musicals like Hamilton for inspiration which is why you can see the correlations. Especially guns and ships vs ismarus. He took his time and truly made it his own like ^ said
49:19 Casper's dream 🤣 also, it would be awesome to have a Cut song saga, I don't need all of them but 41:33 Man of the House, 40:20 Be Mine, 46:10 Athena vs Aphrodite, 58:27 In Vain and 1:05:23 Olive Tree I NEED them
I think the light inside is amazing because it shows what Odysseus is willing to do for his family. His son has such trouble taking a life and it's something he does so easily for them. I think it's an amazing message and thing to think about.

Honestly, I like both more than Get in the Water lol
same. there are aspects to both that i love but in general as a song to listen to, "in vain" just goes so hard.
54:37 This song is interesting! I can see it having an animatic where Odysseus uses his body language to say _"love is"_ and then turns his back to Calypso and his expression immediately becomes flat with red eyes as he finishes with the same enthusiasm but different expression _"in the air"_
OMG I thought the same thing I kinda want this song to come out now 😅
Man of the house (eurylochus version) sounds SO much like a Hamilton song, you can see the inspiration
athena used to be the actual narrator of the show, that's why she's used like that in ismarus! before the troy saga was even close to releasing we used to listen to the old versions of the first few songs and full speed ahead also started with her narration.
as helen's biggest fan, i'll argue she's not really "unfaithful". since we don't have the exact story of her kidnapping we can only say aphrodite promised her to paris, and taking into account her track record plus women rights back then being non-existent we can guess it probably wasn't very consensual on her part, especially considering she seemed to love menelaus and when we see her in the iliad she hates paris lol (though you could argue the love just faded there). helen was also kidnapped once before paris, when she was around twelve years old or less, because theseus wanted to marry her and decided taking her and waiting for her to grow up was good enough. my girl went through A LOT and we can't even know for certain how much agency she had in her own story! i wouldn't say odysseus dodged a bullet either, the pact that technically caused the trojan war was his idea in the first place aknsks without it he wouldn't have had to fight at all
I am SO glad that he found his own voice, you still catch notes of the Hamilton inspired parts but no where near what it seemed to start off with.... the cut songs are soooo good, I can definitely see why they were cut but the fact that a lot of them were a bop in general they'll always hold a special place for me.
In Vain is sooo hype, it convinced me to subscribe to Jay's Patreon. I really hope he makes the Cut Songs Saga down line and released it officially.
45:33 I LOVE TRICK ITS SO SILLY AND A VIBE also I think it was supposed to replace not sorry for loving you with Ody talking to calypso after she says he can leave “someone arrived today, they said they’re taking you away”
yeah in vain is tuff. i need a full version. also the "it cannot be this way"
For the people who asked if this was ok, Yes. This video is great.
- Ryan the Tall Winion
You’re probably the only person on the Internet that has given us the full song for man of the house Eurelochus ver
47:54 DAMN, APHRODITE THREW SOME HEAVY SHOTS
I'm buying the patreon the second I get my paycheck just for mercy has a price omg
You’re gonna love it
For the Telemechus song, I've personally been calling it "Oceans in My Eyes", and from what I know about the Odyssey, I think this song is him talking to Odysseus before they fight the suitors. Because in the original mythology (and maybe EPIC, but we don't know yet) Odysseus and Telemechus work together to kill them, so I think this is Telemechus being unsure about killing for the first time, and asking his dad for advice.
Interesting, I’m blind on the source material so I didn’t know it went down like that.
@tooawkwrd fair enough, I haven't actually read it, but I watched a video that went in depth on what goes on
Ugh it would have been so cool to have a song with ody teaching his son whar he learnt bout the world and shit
PERIMEDES AND ELPENOR MENTION YEAHAHAHSBSBS
bro steven singing in vain would go so hard
29:30 Perimedes does have some speaking parts in the musical we got. He is the one that stabs Odysseus in "Mutiny" and he is the lead voice of "How are we supposed to trust you now, now... and then we died on it, woah"
And also in "Keep Your Friends Close":
PERIMEDES: "Captain what's happening?"
PERIMEDES and ELPENOR: "What's tucked in that bag?"
These are, I believe, the only parts he speaks (or rather sings) in the final musical.
Not most song artists cutting songs cus they aren’t good enough and then there’s Jay cutting songs because they’re too good 😂❤
I think Apetite (or at least the first part) totally could have made its way into Not Sorry for Loving You. Also the Aphrodite and Athena rap battle low key was so good😂
Also JUSTICE FOR OLIVE TREE
I like the idea of Athena reusing Zeus' dogma of the blood being on Odysseus' hands as a way to call back to his trauma and serve to further reinforce his distancing of her.
Man of the House sounds like it would fit in the Ithaca saga.
I believe in an older draft of the show, Man Of The House was the ending of the Underworld Saga? Not entirely sure, I recommend looking into it yourself!
Okay i was NOT prepared for THOSE lyrics to a rap battle between Athena and Aphrodite hahaha 💀
Also, someone tell Caspar about the Hades bit haha!
@ mb I didn’t know just spiting out ideas
This whole ‘tooawkwrd cut song react, take down, video edit, edit back’ saga was my weirdest era in this fandom
Which is good that this fandom is so normal
Lmao
I know Jay has talked about doing some non-canon specials using the characters and I would honestly love to see the gods have a rap battle as one of those separate things.
It makes a lot of sense to me how Athena is explaining stuff in Ismarus because based on the original beginning of Epic, with her speaking the Invocation, I think originally she was supposed to have the role of narrator throughout the whole musical
Dude you are an amazing singer!
Awww shucks
@@tooawkwrd if jay does the cut songs album I wanna hear you up there singing, "I'd yeet a baby off a tower". Legit would make my year
lol that’d make my year! 😅
Perimedes slaps so hard, and I'll be honest I prefer In vain way more than Get In The Water
If Jorge ever releases a cut song saga, which he has stated to have at least the intention to do, this will be my more anticipated I think
Well, Jorge said he might, but there are ALOT of cut songs, so he might have to choose certain ones.
Which in vain? There are two drafts.
@@leonglitch The one on the video?
@@GrayDayMystic Imagine he made all of them, that would be crazy lol
@@laultimarebanada well, that’s basically impossible, because there’s about 80 cut songs and some of them didn’t even have a final revision. But if he did release all of them, then Jorge must be some sort of witch.
Yeah as cool as some songs were, I'm glad the one we got, especially Odysseus, the cut version sounds very incompetent and feels like there would have been an early mutiny, while the one we have now, that one I can see why 600 men follow, even if he later screws himself over, I can still feel the Odysseus we got cares for Eurylochus and his follow men, even after the mutiny, though I do wish Olive Tree stayed but I trust the last song will be beautiful! great video man!
couldn't agree more and thank you bro 🙏
As far as I can see, the scrapped songs feel very similar to the Hamilton Musical when the dialogues take a descriptive tone when sh*t goes down, and they're fine, but it's true that EPIC's official songs style work much better in the moments where tensions are high. They all sound more epic, pun intended.
As a reminder: the danger is near motif and the waiting motif are pretty much the same motif, danger is minor key, waiting is major
I really like the idea of young Odysseus being more like Lin Manuel Maranda because it could be seen as a reference to have Jay's old style was a lot more like Lins when he was younger and starting out.
The Light Inside, which I believe was called 'Ocean in My Eyes' was likely during the Ithaca saga when Odysseus and Telemachus fight the suitors.
honestly i think a 17 yo ody and telemachus being similar in terms of their music is really interesting, shows the similarities between father and son
27:32 - 28:01
At first I laughed because of how ridiculous it sounded, and then I started laughing at myself because I THOUGHT THEY WERE SAYING "HUMMINGBIRD" NOT _AMBUSH_ LMAOOOOO
Guess I still have the Spider-verse soundtrack floating around in my brain, cause that took me a minute xD
Idk if you can blame helen lol, she was faithful until Aphrodite forcefully made her fall in love with Paris
I'm pretty sure Trick is when Calypso tells Ody he can leave. At least that's what it firs comes to mind because in the actal Odyssey he thinks Calypso is planning something to crush his hopes of leaving once he gets on his raft
48:16 I was not expecting that... poor Jay xD
We literally NEED these
Nah having perimedes say yeet is the best part of that song, also in "cope with that" elpenor's depressed friend is perimedes
“2 brothers”.
And about the line part, the live stream has Perimedes say "How are we supposed to trust you now?" Before the rest of the crew joined him for "Now, your time has come your lucks run out" and so on
I now need an official cut songs saga of epic
Idk
YO OLIVE TREE IS SO CUTE 🥺
Mr. Jalapeño, give us that song and my life is yours 😩
the reason why in vain didn't make it is because it makes me wanna root for Poseidon lol
On god lol
Olive tree is so good 😭😭😭
47:17 why is this song so good yet something my mom would kill me for if she found out I listened to it
I see why alot of these were cut however i would love to see a saga completely dedicated to penelope and Oddyseus relationship/how it started (like a 'love' saga) it could either go before the first saga and the trou saga would become 2nd OR it actually could be right before the last saga as like a flashback saga so when we do meet the CURRENY penelope we can see how SHE changed or what values she kept and which she lost. It could be (revised versions obviously) be mine (with a few changes to the end of the song), Pick me, then maybe either a song when telemachus is born or a song where Oddy is telling penelope that he has to go to war (could even be olive tree but like when he originally sang it to her! Like just change the tense for some lines)
Imo it would help develop penelope so the audience could SEE why ody loved her so much and what made her so special. Thats like my only critique of epic- they make penelope such a crucial character but we only get 1 REAL PURE penelope song? (im not counting the siren). GIVE MY GIRL SOME SCREEN TIME XD
"Trick" sounds like it may have been an alternative to "I'm Not Sorry for Loving You", or perhaps involving Circe
I believe monster tier grants you access to all of them
We need the full version of " In vain"
i love cope with that because both perimedes's song and elpenor's cut section of the underworld are both really inherently silly and are treated as so like jay but then cope with that comes along and is like "wait, these two characters actually have depth to them though"
some songs are very good, others not so much and some remind me of Hamilton
I like your videos 🎉
appreciate that gang
Jorge did look towards artists such as Lin Manuel Miranda and especially musicals like Hamilton for inspiration which is why you can see the correlations. Especially guns and ships vs ismarus. He took his time and truly made it his own like ^ said
49:19 Casper's dream 🤣
also, it would be awesome to have a Cut song saga, I don't need all of them but 41:33 Man of the House, 40:20 Be Mine, 46:10 Athena vs Aphrodite, 58:27 In Vain and 1:05:23 Olive Tree I NEED them
I fucking love cope with that and comfort zone (more comfort zone)
No no, you're right for In Vain. I need Unhinged/Mindbroken Poseidon. But also, more Poseidon.
"Hey, Athena, think you could tone it down a little? My friends are dead."
i think trick was meybe a original version of sorry of loving you or something , when she said someone will take you out
Perimedes does have a part he stabbed oddyseus after after they found out he sacrifices six men in scyllas cave.(according to gigis animation)
I think the light inside is amazing because it shows what Odysseus is willing to do for his family. His son has such trouble taking a life and it's something he does so easily for them. I think it's an amazing message and thing to think about.
🎉THIS IS DA WAE!🎉
I really like your cover of Comfort Zone
Thanks 😎
Great video! I love that you dont come into these blind. Sets you apart
Thank you! 🙏 Yea I’ve noticed there aren’t many reactions from die hard fans, so I’m glad I could be that for people.
