Could you have used J-B Weld SteelStik - Steel Reinforced Epoxy Putty Stick instead of welding the hanger onto the repaired flange? Sez' you can use on exhaust system and can handle heat up to 300 F.

Shouldn’t the springs be in the middle - flange and support?
I think the springs are there to put tension on the joint but allow it to move.

Maybe that's another option if you don't have a welder. have you had any luck using it?
I had a straight pipe welded in and got rid of the flange with springs. Did you repair the one near catylistic converter yet?
