Hi there, Jeep owners. Today on your 1989 Jeep Wrangler YJ, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install Roadmaster's Diode Wiring Kit. And the main reason for installing diodes here at the back, it'll allow all your motor home signals to come from your motor home's seven-way connector and illuminate this light. But if you we're to just wire it up without diodes, it would not only illuminate the light, but it would also backfeed on your circuitry and potentially damage components on the vehicle. The diodes act is a one-way check file for electricity that will let it go from our motor home to our light, but it will not let it go back down our factory wiring and effect anything on our vehicle. We've got the hazard lights on in our motor home.
And you can see the lights flashing at the back of the motor home is being mimicked here on the vehicle. And this is gonna be the same for all lighting signals here at the back, which includes our left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps, which will keep us DOT compliant in all the states. Diode wiring is my preferred method for getting a flat tow set up with lighting signals. There are a few options, but this is definitely gonna be the cleanest. You can't see any of the installation components.
They are gonna be hidden behind the assembly there in the vehicle. And this is gonna just illuminate your factory light. So it looks just like it would if it was driving down the road. Some of the other options are a bolt and socket kit where you physically drill a hole into your light assembly and add another bulb. I don't particularly like that style because once you drill into the assembly, there's a chance that you've added another point where moisture can leak inside and that does fail safety inspection in quite a few states and can cause damage to the interior components, your bulbs and wiring inside.
The other option is magnetic lighting, where you can set the lights up on the back of your vehicle and they'll stick to any metal surface. So like on your Jeep, you could probably put them on the side here. They would be a little low, but they would be about the same level as this and those work out really well. They stick on really fast to any wire to the front and plug them in. The problem I got with those is every single time that you want to flat tow, you have to get that thing out, set it up, run the wire up, and plug in.
Where our dialed wiring here is gonna be in the vehicle all the time with a connector at the front that we just simply plug in when we go to hook up. So it saves you a lot of time. Little bit more time upfront for the install, but definitely, a lot of time in the long run. And here at the front, we can see the connector. Now this kit does come in several different configurations, depending on what you're gonna need, 'cause sometimes, if you're maybe just getting a new vehicle and you're gonna reuse some components, you don't need everything and you can reuse some of your old stuff. So we installed the kit that comes with the connector as well as a six to seven coily cable. And here's our six-way connector on here, but you can get it without the connector and cable, where it's just the diodes and the wiring that you run up here to the front and you can then provide your own connector. It comes as well as an option with a four pole. So when you run the wiring up to the front, you'll have a four pole here. You can also get a four pole flat, four pole round, or the six round. And in these six round versions, like we're showing off here, you can get it in three different cable options. We're showing off the coily cable option, but there's also a straight cable option, which is great for tow bars that have cable management with channels, such as Roadmaster's Falcon All Terrain. And they also have them in hybrid options, which is half coiled, half straight, which works out really well in tow bars with cable management that are a little bit longer that just need the extra length. And you'll see something like that with, for example, like Roadmaster's Nighthawk. It has a hybrid cable that it comes included with that tow bar. So for that example, you probably wouldn't wanna purchase the kit that it comes with. You would wanna get one that's without. So you can see the different options, just pay attention to your tow bar and other components you're purchasing so you can get the best wiring kit to match the rest of your components. There's five main components you'll need when flat towing your vehicle behind your motor home. You'll need your tow bar, which is t
