Dude, cold slicks have zero traction and are easy to spin. Hard to get enough heat in to a slick on the street. Once they are sticky they sure are fun! Great job on the car!
It's not a prop valve issue, as those don't adjust the pressure to a vehicle's front wheels - just the rears. And a 997 turbo does not have a prop valve; it has distribution built into the master cylinder (featuring two output lines feeding the abs block). It'd be odd to have your issue stem from the master cylinder, as if the piston is releasing for the rears it's also releasing for the fronts - so it'd have to be some super weird failure mode. I would bet it's in the abs block activating when it's not supposed to, have you tried pulling the ABS fuse and driving around to see if it's still an issue? I would start there.
The JChutch exhaust are the best. I have the same exhaust on my 997 turbo but with titanium tips which gives it and even more exotic sound. Worth every penny. keep up the awesome build.
Seems like you have a residual pressure issue in the front brake system. I don't remember what all components that you changed but places to look and consider are the master cylinder, flex lines (don't reuse the old ones) and ensure that the pistons in the clalper are able to slide in and out easily. Clean up the bores and the pistons so that they don't have any corrosion in them and use some lube as you reassemble. If you change out the front flex lines for some new ones, do the rear too.
@@matt13ross then you are onto the master cylinder. Maybe something strange is going on inside that's keeping residual pressure on after you release the pedal. Perhaps the seal has gone bad in the cylinder bore for the front section and the seal for the rear is ok. Otherwise, you would have the rears doing the same lock up. Stranger things have happened. If my memory is right on the caliper rebuild that you did, the pistons and bores were in nice shape...only needed new seals and boots.
Hey Matt, good job on everything done so far, the problem at hand could be master cylinder and or ABS problem with sensors etc. Just have your mechanic buddy diagnose it for you. Cheers man
I would bet the abs hydraulic module is causing the brakes to stick, check the lines coming out of the unit itself for fluid flow. master cylinder is also possible, swap the components of your yellow turbo to isolate the problem.
The exhaust looks and sounds amazing! Hopefully the brake fix is something easy (master cylinder perhaps?). Always look forward to your Porsche content. Really interested in a 996 Turbo & 997 Turbo comparison vid!
Don't know if these cars have proportioning valves in the braking systems, but if they do, I'd check that. Also, might be something to do with the ABS system so I'd check there as well. Since it's impacting both front brakes that's where this is coming from. If it were just one, then I'd say you have a bad caliper and recommend replacing it.
Unbelievably good looking and sounding exhaust. Very well done. As for the brakes.. gotta be either the master cylinder or the ABS system. I'd start by digging into the ABS.
So here’s the thing about DJI years ago they used to be terrible for charging a lot of money for repairing their equipment but these days things have got a lot better as in that most people used to go out and buy the warranty from DJI now it’s gone the other way where it is now cheaper to send your equipment to go and get it fixed then to actually have the warranty so don’t be worried about sending it back for them to repair and the reason I say this is because most of the time they don’t bother repairing it they just send you either a reconditioned unit or a new one and just pay for the repair, so don’t be worried about doing that but being that you’re really hands-on and you love repairing things yourself. It is fairly easy to buy these parts off of eBay and your generally find that Ebay is littered with them. But one thing that I will say being that I repair Dji drones and gimbal that I buy for myself and sell on, or at least I did before Covid hit , if you buy the outer casing parts for this gimbal make sure to buy the ribbon cable and the power cable as well because if you’re not careful when taking this apart the likelihood of you breaking one of these cables is fairly high so for that reasoning, it’s probably easier just to send it back especially if there’s other marks on your camera unit , as to buy the parts separate will cost far more than if DJI was to supply the parts to do the repair , but as always keep up the good work and I hope this information helps
The pistons in the calipers expanded due heat they may need thermal protection the piston seals. I'm not sure your piston bores are scored in one caliper yes but both not so sure . Proportioning valve not sue that would be an issue up front but you did have the car exploded so maybe? . These are things that come to mind .... recheck ..
Think maybe do a seal kit on caliper or braided hose, not sure if you did this already , or the pads are slightly think , with the disks etc hopefully this helps, worked for Porsche since 2000
Most likely the booster is causing it. Next time you drive it take a spanner to unbolt the master from the booster and see if it releases the pressure to the front brakes. If it dies it's the booster holding them on
I had this happen to me in my supra and it ended up being my brake booster.....not necessarily saying that's your issue, but that is what happened in my experience.
Are the disks definitely in the centre of the callipers? Only thing I could think of is one side is too close, pads are binding and the heat is causing the fluid to boil and lock on. You could also try pulling the ABS/PSM fuse to rule out a pump or PSM issue. Most likely master cylinder / booster diaphragm / misalignment of master cylinder pin if that all checks out.
I’d definitely check the master cylinder arm is seated properly in the brake booster then. That’s the only other thing I can think of. Your car is looking great, great choice of colour. You’ll love it once it’s up and running, have never regretted getting mine. I’ve only had to do servicing, PCM+ and coolant pipe pinning on mine though. Nothing like what you’ve had to do!
That sucks on the brakes. I hope you figure it out. Of all my 30+ years of working on numerous types of cars (most of them German) I've never run across that issue.
13:58 Is there a front rear brake bias “thing” that requires adjusting? It was a track car after all so maybe previous owner had the bias set up differently to stock? Either that or maybe the callipers themselves have a blockage inside (maybe they accumulated debris from sitting in the body shop for so long)?
Yo Mat 2 things why is always un puff of smoke each time you start the car ? It look blue on screen... About the exhaust are you able to told a range of price for the kit ?
ABS pump? Or maybe master cylinder are my guesses. Having your nephew help you brought back lots of good memories. I have 7 nieces and nephews and used to get them to help me work on my cars a lot. My oldest nephew has become a better mechanic than me! When my niece was 9 months pregnant she had a fender bender- I told her she did it, she can help fix it. We did the repair in the driveway and I am sure neighbours and people passing by were shocked! lol. Look forward to seeing Hoit in more videos
Is your engine oil level too high? That would cause the smoke on first start. I know the 996 doesn’t like being full, 2bars from the top is the ‘recommended’ level. Also check your boost hoses to see if they’re collecting any oil.
@@matt13ross where the master cylinder can’t vent so as you press on the brake pedal it applies the brakes but a vacuum is created which holds them on.

Time for a new master cylinder, front left is the nearest.
Well i guess my lunch break starts right now
Yeah. Same. Was looking for something to watch sitting in the car at lunch. Saw this. Win.

It’s a brake master cylinder. Had the same problem on my bmw. Good luck
My 991 requires special LV (low viscosity) fluid. Not sure not using that would cause this issue but worth using just in case.
Damn those welds are pristine.
Still driving it without fixing the paint on the contact services of the calipers 😉🤪
Maybe fix that first before next mods.

I think you need to change a proportion valve that’s why you’re having breaking problems
Is there a separated module for the front since it's awd. Try pulling a fuse and see if the module is doing something wrong?
Mat , my personal opinion is , that you have brake pressure problem in your brake lines. How the brake fluid come out under pressure...
Need to get a Porsche project to work on little by little with Hoyt... Then it be his first car once he's ready to be driving...
He wants a Cummins lol
Same braking issue I had on my m5 and it turned out to be a bad master cylinder.
U need to do a bleed thru your OBD Scan tool if u have let air in the system .
Seems to have no air at all

The brake pedal pin clearance to long it keeps the brake applied, or abs pump solenoids stuck.
