Which Fable one though? Original, TLC, or Anniversary? All were great IMO! I think fable 2 was also reaaally good. Fable 3 was just fun for maxing out the ice maiden pistol to do speed runs with lol. It did extremely glitched damage once fully upgraded. The final boss fight takes mere seconds and it messes up cutscenes and dialogue lines lol.

@@WinegedDragoon I'm not positive on the time difference exactly but I do know enough time passed that people think heroes are basically just fairy tales or long past. The map started off as just old world Britain (aka Albion). Then in 2 they focused on the mainland while making the occasional nod to the surrounding islands. Then in 3 they changed it completely, the knothole glade island is just gone now, either that or it's the secret prison now and they just retconned it's size by a lot. Or I guess the island could have just been chipped away by the tides, something parts of the british isles are known for. But again, magic lol. If a magic tower can press the reset button on civilization I don't see an issue with magical alteration of the land over time. I’ve beaten the game as a Super hero (all 3) a multitude of two played different ways or just one route only. Currently replaying a Pure Mage however I’ve restricted myself to specific spells and it’s fantastic.
Also you can own all houses and building, you only need to get rid of the owners. Commonly you unalive them but if you want to be good you can simply have them follow you outside the town, have them stop and go back. Their home/store is now available to buy. Course the best way to exploit the economy is just buying and selling a ton of a single type of item non stop to single merchant and you’ll be filthy rich 🤣

You can buy every house and every business, except in Bowerstone South, where you can only buy the pre-purchaseable house, the indoors item shop, the barber and tavern.
The previous owners just have to die first, either by murder, or "accidentally" when guards try to arrest you for vandalism or having your weapon out, while your summoned ghost swords and/or summon is next to a unfortunate person who just happens to die in the ensuing chaos (you don't get blamed for kills by summons).
For Bowerstone, you have to have enough reputation/fame to convince the owners to follow you with the "follow" -emote, lead them outside Bowerstone and then stick ´em. Another way is to hire mercenaries, and then cause vandalism, and have the accidental deaths happen that way.

I definitely prefer Fable 2 that is one of my favorite games of that entire console generation never mind the franchise
However this original game was one of my favorite games on the Xbox for sure, it was one of those dream come true kind of games for me at the time.
The way that it told storytelling and how you were able to interact with the world and form your character was so unique
It stood out compared to even other open world RPG prototypes and even in my opinion holds up stronger than some of the ones that came after it
It's funny that you are also tackling oblivion at the moment because Oblivion was the game that initially to me managed to outshine Fable, but these days I think Fable holds up way better
Sure I also ended up falling hype to the broken promises of Peter molyneux, however despite the fact that he was unable to deliver on the grand scope of the game I thought they delivered on enough of it that it absolutely blew my mind and made it a blast to play through multiple times.
There is a certain charm that this game has that is missing from the sequel as well just due to the fact that it can lean into more of the traditional fantasy backdrop that gets lost a little bit with the second game being in more of an industrial age time.
But I fell in love with the overall concept for the game and the world of Albion, I loved that I could be a saintly angel or a reviled devil of a character or somewhere in between, I loved the quirky and distinct British humor throughout the game, and I loved that I could be a character with the kind of name that would make people tremble in their boots but yet my accomplishments were mostly that I was a real estate mogul with the world record for farthest chicken punt, who married a different woman in every town and routinely harassed them by inviting them up to bed only to then fart on them and run out the door
    Phenomenal game lmao

The economy in Anniversary is kind of broken if you know how to exploit it. For instance, if you purchase all the perfume bottles in Oakvale, then proceed to sell them back, you will gain more gold each time. You can repeat this process with other more expensive items like gems. When you have all of them, just sleep until the vendor's inventory is restocked, and buy more. This will continue netting you more gold every time you buy everything and sell it back. The idea here is the NPC offers a discount to you when he has a lot in stock. On the other hand, when he has none in stick, he will be more willing to pay you more money. You can amass 500k in just under an hour of starting the game.

Anyway, would love to see a video from you about it.

if you ever wanted to check it out I'd recommend prioritising getting to "Relentless Assault" in the Might skill tree rather quickly as it prevents you from getting interrupted on hits while active.

@Fizhy If you yuu weren't made aware yet you can buy more then 1 building in any settlement, but if no ones selling you can't buy. So what you have to do is get the owners of the buildings to follow you through a loading screen then dismiss them and when you return their home will be up for sale. Or you can just outright kill them, it pretty much has the same effect but thats not important. Even if you buy everything, and yes almost every building can be obtained, you still can't effect the market through owning the building as you have no control over rent or prices for shop that you own. The passive income is nice but not really needed in Fable A.

Ive been playing this on my handheld lenovo legion go lately. Such a great game! Great handheld too tbh! It has been a dream to play Fable on a handheld since I was a kid. I played the original even before TLC came out. A lot of people dont even realize this, but TLC was sort of an expansion on the original, with some changes. In the original fable, the sword of aeons did like 550 damage instead of 230 like in TLC. It kinda worked though, since the magic and all the other stuff was already OP.

My personal favourite is Fable 1, but really I don't understand why Microsoft doesn't put Fable 2 on PC, because they did it for Fable 1 twice (Lost Chapters and Anniversary, don't know about other markets but it's on steam) and Fable 3 which was removed from storefronts like steam. Whilst Fable 2 never received a PC release bizarrely enough, there are other titles of which I could say the same thing like I would love Microsoft to remaster the Gears of War Trilogy and put it on PC.
I feel like a lot of people would buy those two titles on PC.

I wish you used more magic it expands the combat and makes it more in depth. Its easy to fall into hack and slashing in fable 1 and not experience the whole combat systems. You can easily kill two trolls by using shield which protects you and consumes mana instead of health, using multiple hit which multiplys the damage you do with sword, as well as using enflame could have taken those trolls out with ease. Using more spells gives the combat more depth.

I like almost everything about fable 1 better than 2. The main story, spells, quest boasting, enemy variety, clothes and armor, the loot from silver chests and demon doors, and having something as simple as a mini map. I do still enjoy fable 2 and think it improves in a couple ways, but I don’t understand why it’s the fan favorite.

I nuked the absolute crap out of the economy in Bowerstone North by buying all of the gems ec m and then selling all but one of each. By buying them all, I created a shortage which meant the merchant would buy them at an increased rate from me so that he could replenish his stock. Because he bought them so, he ended up with a surplus so he began selling them at a discounted rate. I just kept repeating this process over and over again and (albeit slowly) started raking in the gold

While i still enjoyed fable 1, its still forever plagued in my mind. I pre ordered and got fable day 1, i remember rushing home from school and getting my dad to take me to gamestop to get my copy. I 100% it in one sitting in 9 hours. I had fun, but was highly dissapponted. I was 14 or 15, and wasnt used to the game industry over hyping games yet, and was my first introduction to Peter Molyneux (though i had already played black and white, and loved it, i never heard of peter yet)
Peter Molyneux said so many lies about this game, i dont remember exactly, but it was like sean murray from no mans sky but worse (at least from what i remember, it was a long time ago) peter made this sound like the everything game, go and do whatever you want, play forever, huge world, great character development, the best rpg ever. When i 100% it in one sitting, i felt so angry and lied to. The game was a series of narrow hallways, very light rpg elemts, basic story, very little to no freedom. Fable 1 was the first and last fable i played. Peter Molyneux was one of the worst video game shills, i never believed anything he said again. And then i remember him showing off this lame milo kid thing for the xbox kinetic years later, and knew everything he showed fornit was just a lie, and nothing ever came from it lol. He did make black and white though, and i really loved that game.

I think Fable 1/Anniversary is mechanically/objectively the best one. The gameplay/combat is not only fun but feels important - if that’s the right word - and memorable. The story is really well paced and despite the Hero of Oakvale never speaking, you can still see the arc he goes on. The world is well designed and feels like a real, lived in world. The tone and aesthetic of the game is consistent, charming and memorable. There’s a lot to recommend about this game and really I think the biggest drawback is how small the areas are, and how many loading screens you’ll be subjected to.
But I still overall prefer Fable 2. A lot of it is probably nostalgia but I think it is a better experience even if mechanically all the pieces are there in Fable 1 moreso than it’s sequel.

  • @Arcanua
    @Arcanua 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I'm surprised 2 was so well loved it missed the mark quite a bit for me, though 3 did it even more and was just...insulting? Not sure what makes you think the original cannot have the economy crashed as bad as the other Fables it's just as easy there as the others and that's without including the new bugs Anniversary added to further break it. (Wedding Rings are FAR more game breaking in anniversary than in original Fable/TLC) xD
Though for me it goes even to the point I prefer the original PC release of TLC over anniversary and that's thanks to the extra bugs that are unique to it which further break the game. Which tbf Fable is meant to be a HUGE power trip and it doesn't hide that fact especially on the game's fat case on PC, Xbox it's more subtle interestingly. The "humor" from 2 and 3 was so forced compared to 1 which was kinda sad since I was looking forward to it until actually playing and it just being...not as good. Fable 1 is still going to be my favorite but I will give it specifically to the ORIGINAL version of TLC, NOT anniversary. I bought anni when it came out super hype for the remake but then the game cracked too much at the seams for me. Enough that I bought a new copy of the original release almost immediately after closing it. The remaster just looked too ugly and I'll play games with ASCII "graphics" so it's not like I'm a graphics snob, that and minor alterations were just weird...like altering Jack's mask...it's mirrored for some reason. There are a LOT of problems with the Fable 2/3 controls for Anni too, but I also played the original when it came out for PC so I never touched that setting. Fable 1 also made magic so broken there eventually was no point to do the whole hack-and-slash too. Not that I minded since the spells were great in the game. Fable 2 and 3 have some of the worst and least rewarding magic systems I've played in a video game period. Fable 2's ranged combat breaks the game and has some "subte" humor with it tracking things like groin shots. xD
Something to also note, the later Fable's have extra chicken shenanigans with the intros of Fable 2 and 3. Also you CAN buy all of Albion pretty much in Fable 1 the whole you can only buy designated homes, no that's not at all true you just kill the owner and they let you buy it ._. Sponsoring a break for the guards also doesn't do nothing they ignore your crimes for a bit if you do that which is handy if you want to steal a bunch of stuff. There are also MUCH better exploits for EXP by the way LMAO A bow also helps a LOT more than spells for that first Jack boss fight :P
