A 900mm water wading depth is 35.4 inches tall or about as tall as a 315/70r18 Toyo Open Country MT tyre. Or about as tall as a 325/60r20 tyre from a G-Wagon 4x4^2
The 110 defender is the best 4x4 by far. In the early 2000s I used to go fish and camping in a 1970,s 110. It just went and went! Great video Tim. We would love to see more Landys and offroad videos, in the future!
I love it my dad drives one it is so practical. Easy for work as anything can be dumped in the back. No fancy black bits and buttons all simple and very comfy. Only downside is it very very big.

I would rather buy an Ineos Grenadier. This car is not capable to drive through a continent. For example: If the air ride sensor breaks, it‘s stranded. Not an proper off roader. Coming from an person who owns a TD4

Purists? It’s LR themselves. They continually talk about heritage but LR have completely abandoned their heritage with the new Defender. Utility, simplicity, practicality, ease of modification and easy to work on, the new vehicle is none of these. The battery is under the seat, the front bash plate is plastic, there are 85 ECU’s and air suspension. This is anything but a perfect representation of modern day Defender, it is an SUV! The Land Cruiser 70 series has no competition!

The funny thing is, Doug De Muro said this was a mid-size SUV. And then you see Shmee saying it’s a large SUV and seeing how it is bigger than a transit van. Just shows the vast difference in car and road sizes in the US and UK

Every time they can they went to the forest and do some offroad. For me LR are cars with a beatiful personality they may not be reliable but they have a soul, for me is the best 4x4
I had a Defender as my pool car in the army. It was one of the first TDi models. Biggest memory is that there was no space for you right arm due to the door location. Other than that it was a great but slow car!
I disagree with the need for more performance/power - it’s intended purpose is a rugged utilitarian use. Maybe a hybrid electric diesel model for ample towing capacity but not a v8. Companies must get away from upselling SUV’s to the every day person who just don’t need it! We are well aware of the requirements to reduce carbon emissions but this should also be twinned with a reduction in vehicle weights of where weight isn’t required for towing or the transportation of goods.
Great video but you do the defender a disservice, it has a long history of off-road and military use and it may have more service to the crown to complete. I must admit that for 75 to 90% of users you did a great job of showing the new Defender, well done!
Exterior wise I agree somewhat however thats only one aspect of the vehicle. Having seen the new one in person it looks quite good IMO not as good as the old one but better than a lot of newer vehicles.
Love it, I'd have one if I could afford it. But imagine the constant bong having the door open. I'd have to find a way of turning that off, would drive anyone crazy!
I'm not a big fan of the design - it looks too much like the freelander from the front - but I'm liking it more as I see it more. I'd have to colourmatch the silver bumpers though, and get rid of the accessory panel. The back end is definitely where its best - Looks like a proper defender, and has all the practical functionality that you'd expect. The only thing missing is the ability to repair body damage by welding a random piece of sheet metal on (I've known a few people do that with old defenders, maybe its a "only in yorkshire" thing though!)
As a previous land rover owner, I have to say that compare to the old system, JLR’s new infotainment system is amazingly responsive! Heard that blackberry developed this system for JLR?
I really couldn't care less about the old Defender, this one however I absolutely would buy, the P400 6 Cylinder petrol 110 in green with the 22 inch wheels looks soo good. Its all the car you'd ever need.
Clean lines more Glam. Sets up well for the urban event or commute to the country estate. the First Configuration on line that came out was fun to work with.
Hosting out the interior is a thought but I really would not do that..there are plenty of electronics under those seats and I have seen them in bits...it might appear in the sales blurb but a hose inside is a super brave idea!!!😱😱😱😱😱😱Petrol our diesel?....the diesel will not be the wisest choice financially but it is a good engine that improves a lot after 10,000 miles and I get 35/40mpg in a Discovery Sport but I understand the Petrol Defender is unlikely to get beyond 25mpg and much less in town. It needs the full Hybrid system as soon as possible. 🙂🙂
It's all a bit 'meh'...not a defender, not even as nice as the previous gen discovery...a few exposed nuts and bolts and a washable floor don't do enough to justify the defender name. Can tell from Tim's comments that he's not overly impressed either!

Nice little trip from Nutley to Duddleswell across the Ashdown Forest then left up to Ghyll's Lap and then Hartfield. That crashed car has been there for ages! (It’s been cleared!) Fun comments as usual.
Really excellent video. I think people are finding it hard to accept this new car as its such an upgrade from the classic Defender. Its obviously a good car but lacks that functional, basic quality. The original one was just such an iconic vehicle. .
Seeing loads of these around Shrewsbury as well as some test vehicles and they are imposing. I think a nice spec one of these would make a nice replacement for the g wagon wrapped in the same colour as the 675LT
Bad news Tim, if you wanted a Ford Bronco turns out they are only selling them in the US (they may reconsider) at least you still have the defender if you are interested in an off road SUV

Here's the real question, Tim. Would you consider replacing the AMG G63 with an all new Ford Bronco when it comes out, so that you can continue to tow the McLaren Senna and some of your other cars as well (Ford GT)?

You have to remember that he's decided to order a Shelby GT500 from the United States (only available there), so it wouldn't be a stretch to think he could also buy a Bronco to tow his cars around.
Can't see the farmers in the Dales happy with this, expensive, complicated and wouldn't want to ruin the interior with two sheepdogs and am Ewe in the back...very much a Chelsea tractor now unfortunately. Just curious to what farmers will turn to once all the old defenders are gone?
Increasinlgy a large amount of car reviews focusing on the Flash Mob mentality - people who own the car for 20k miles then move it on/back. Little to no focus on the aspects of long term ownership. Lest we forget that this Chelsea Tractor is from Jag/Landy so will be as reliable as your personal tail pipes after an Xhot Vindaloo and 5 pints of Cobra. After 25'000 miles things will start to break and other things will just fall off when you do 60+. At this point you'll be working with some Dealership bods who got D-D-U before any exams fiasco and don't understand why you're annoyed that a £50k vehicle has rear usb ports full of water that no longer work after you hosed them down.
Thats why the USB have spring loaded flip covers.......moron! FYI JLR are no better or worse than ANY other Premium brand for Reliability....Check JD power surveys for the Truth, NOT urban legend put around by people whom have caned their cars,,,,,not serviced them etc. And then go on YT complaining about dealers. Thats because the Dealers are NOT stupid and tell them to take a Hike!
The real test will be what it looks like after 100,000miles; it's got the Defender badge I would need to be convinced that it has got the Defender durability.

WOw love the minimalistica apporoach to the interiror no carpet is better than carpet everywhere even though that means acres of plastic. Like the inside hardly any buttons and all screen.
Surely the advantage of the original defender was its simplicity and reliability. Is this new defender not simply stepping on the toes of the discovery? Doesn't make sense to me. All this does is make the old defender more valuable imo?
The old shape just looks better to me. I can't unsee it. They should have went with evolution, not revolution, when it comes to the design. I just don't know how it will age, or come across utility wise. It just looks less rugged to me.
No sign of a tow bar even a look at the detachable if them 2 had them fitted would be interesting. I’m not sure they are gonna fit back into where the last defender left off as a agricultural work horse and heavy towing. Think if I was spending that sort of money I’d be going for a ford ranger raptor before a defender X

I saw a few of them at the Land Rover dealer I drive past almost daily here in .nl. Taxes make these really expensive over here, starting at almost €97k for the base model 90...
My dads looking to buy one because he has a ‘96 defender 90 CSW. He (and i) think they are REALLY cool. Just great. and i’d be nice to have a nice modern car (my mum has my sisters old c1 after her lease ended) because we used to have an E classe and SLC, but my dad got caught doing 104 MPH (not even joking) in the SLC and he needed a car that was cheap to insure so that after a like a year insurance prices would return to earth. it’s nearly been a year, and we ‘down sized’ are house so we have some money now. Can’t wait for the ‘situation’ to end so i can get in a Land Rover dealer to see what it’s like. seen a few on the road as well.
Road I know so well more fun in a Clio. The new Defender was never going to please everyone. But as a new model with the old name I think it’s a very good vehicle.
I absolutely love that car, yes, it isn't in it's truest form of a defender, but I think it's a very good looking car, and definitely is a very capable offroader

FYI JLR are no better or worse than ANY other Premium brand for Reliability....Check JD power surveys for the Truth, NOT urban legend put around by people whom have caned their cars,,,,,not serviced them etc. And then go on YT complaining about dealers. Thats because the Dealers are NOT stupid and tell them to take a Hike!
The real test will be what it looks like after 100,000miles; it's got the Defender badge I would need to be convinced that it has got the Defender durability.

WOw love the minimalistica apporoach to the interiror no carpet is better than carpet everywhere even though that means acres of plastic. Like the inside hardly any buttons and all screen.
Surely the advantage of the original defender was its simplicity and reliability. Is this new defender not simply stepping on the toes of the discovery? Doesn't make sense to me. All this does is make the old defender more valuable imo?

I think it should have been called discovery or given a new name all together. I feel the controversy is due to it being called a defender.
I can never come to like the design of the new Defender no matter how many times I may look at it.
It's like an old car trying to conceptualize what a "future" car would look like.
What did you do to the other 149 Shmees?
Ford did it way better with the new Bronco. They paid homage to the old design, yet perfectly merged the modern design.
That car looks so good now.

The old shape just looks better to me. I can't unsee it. They should have went with evolution, not revolution, when it comes to the design. I just don't know how it will age, or come across utility wise. It just looks less rugged to me.

No sign of a tow bar even a look at the detachable if them 2 had them fitted would be interesting. I’m not sure they are gonna fit back into where the last defender left off as a agricultural work horse and heavy towing. Think if I was spending that sort of money I’d be going for a ford ranger raptor before a defender X

I saw a few of them at the Land Rover dealer I drive past almost daily here in .nl. Taxes make these really expensive over here, starting at almost €97k for the base model 90...
Can you imagine going off-road with a 90k car?! 🤣🤣This water proof car it's gonna be use to take children school by some blonde wifey.
My dads looking to buy one because he has a ‘96 defender 90 CSW. He (and i) think they are REALLY cool. Just great. and i’d be nice to have a nice modern car (my mum has my sisters old c1 after her lease ended) because we used to have an E classe and SLC, but my dad got caught doing 104 MPH (not even joking) in the SLC and he needed a car that was cheap to insure so that after a like a year insurance prices would return to earth. it’s nearly been a year, and we ‘down sized’ are house so we have some money now. Can’t wait for the ‘situation’ to end so i can get in a Land Rover dealer to see what it’s like. seen a few on the road as well.
Do you guys have the Chevrolet Suburban in the UK? It's the longest SUV right now.

Road I know so well more fun in a Clio. The new Defender was never going to please everyone. But as a new model with the old name I think it’s a very good vehicle.

I absolutely love that car, yes, it isn't in it's truest form of a defender, but I think it's a very good looking car, and definitely is a very capable offroader
I imagine it's almost unbeatable when heading off the beaten track
