      Good on ya NCB - you'll be having a blast with it while the bogans are still arguing... here in CAN farmer spec, with the top diesel engine and just the options that improve off road, is about $CDN 75k, thats the 110. Guess you are higher as Oz taxes are more crippling....

    I found this the most useful of the launch advert "reviews" to date. Thank you. Yes, I am looking forward to a competitive review against Jeep and Mercedes. I drove the Defender at the release event in California and found no significant surprises or disappointments, and confirmed corrections to the few, critical 4x4 gaps in my high-mileage D4. I am looking forward to receiving the P300 Defender 110 S, with Farmer off-road specs, soon. It will work and see much off-road use.

    This is one of the better reviews. I had a Defender 110 heritage edition and am a bit biased but I also have some concerns about the new Defender. I drive a Land cruiser 200 at the moment.
    From my point of view this review was not a commercial and also gave insight in the weaker points of the car. I was especially disappointed by the lack of flex and but against that I found that there are a ton of design elements that do the old defender absolutely justice.
    I don't see though how the new defender is almost at the same price point as a Toyota land cruiser. I feel it should be more affordable.

    • @cmacd8879
      @cmacd8879 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree with James Harris, lots of Jeep owners love their off-road capability but hate the driving experience. This looks to meet 90% of what Jeep owners do with their vehicles, while being much nicer on road, perhaps even more fun and nimble after watching a few of the reviews out today. It will sell well.

    • @chrise.5269
      @chrise.5269 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This Defender costs the same as a new 4x4 specified Discovery, but significantly improves the 4x4 faults of the recent Discovery models -- namely small tire diameter , too large rims and non-availability of off-road tires (at least in North America). It also has a flat torque curve even in Petrol version (P300) -- And electronic 4x4 is better. (The P400 is necessary for L.A.freeways -- we'll leave that one for them.)

    To me this is more of a modern version of the original Range Rover and I think it looks superb, hope it sells well, although I don't understand all this 400hp malarkey, we don't need 400hp for off road driving. Unless the Jeep Wrangler is highly modified its just a toy. Its apity there's not a more basic LR Defender type vehicle for the farmers and utilities.

      @cmacd8879 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was hoping to see more of the extreme offroading that was shown on instagram?

    Too much money. otherwise I'm sure it is very good at off road stuff. Will it last? Who knows.

    Love your review, I watch the other reviews of this trip from people like Topgear and you come off as geniuin and knowing what the hell you're talking about. Compared to the others you're talking about options we care about instead of guys complaining about the handling at high speeds (comparing to sports cars😪) or how great the trip was (oooh look a giraff!) or that "they don't get offroading". Bleh.
    Also your totally right about the air ride. My Dad's Ram truck with air ride has left him stranded a couple of times. Unless you know how to fix one and carry some spare parts the air ride Defenders don't belong on a long off road trip IMO.....unless your near somewehere to get it towed for warranty work. 😅 Honestly Landrover made changes fine. But nobodies going to take it seriously unless they bring reliability back to the brand with this vehicle. Maybe the old Defender wasn't reliable to some but it was easy to fix. With all the electronics on this it better be at least as reliable as a Jeep cause it ain't giong to be easy to fix. Nevermind what the Toyota snobs think.

    I think your long term Land Cruiser test car is better than the new Defender...The Prado 3 doors is quite unstoppable and really reliable. I'd choose that over both the new and old Defender every day. And for those looking at the numbers: there are different ways to measure ground clearance and off road angles...

    To many electronics bring back the old days when you can fix them on the side of the road now you need a dealership behind you

      I remember like it were yesterday ppl moaning on when Discovery 2 was 'new' and having really 'complicated' electronics, they had ONE ECU as did the Defender Td5 and TDCi ,not 85 like this latest bag of sh*t - err sorry ''bag of tricks''.

    Performs well on camera , but it’s unproven...I’m disappointed it doesn’t have a chassis and yet it’s not light weight....life cycle is usually shorter on vehicles with out a chassis in heavy duty vehicles. I think this leans more toward SUV than 4wd truck

    85 Computers..humm..was this car designed to be a "minefield of costs"

      1 computer/ECU was more than enough. Td5/TDCi are 'ancient' now, yes they needed a laptop to fix (sometimes), but were still spanner friendly most of the time.

    rolling over sand and smooth stones isnt exactly a difficult task. can the new defender make it across the rubicon trail? i dont think land rover wants anyone to try that, so we will never know the answer until someone who has alot of money to waste, tries it

    People bought the defender, out of utility or passion/desire at a certain price point. This one checks none of those boxes. Sure people will cross shop this with other SUVs, but it has become just another SUV. For everyday use there are better options. With taxes becoming a factor SUVs with decent real electric range like the x5 45e will be where the market is heading... I can't believe they sacrificed their niche, I hope it works out for them because overall they are a cool brand

    You have to rather compare the new Defender to the Jeep Cherokee than Wrangler. BTW the 3.0 liter is a straight 6 and not V6....08:36. Providing us with your BS opinion about the Double Cab pickup market does not make it fact. The DEFENDER 130 was still in production until 2016 and Jeep Wrangler GLADIATOR sales in the US are doing well so why not a 130 DC HCPU to absorb nearly 1/5 of the capacity?
