- The Tony Awards are miraculously still on this year and quickly upon us. After seeing every single nominee this year, I am back to give my predictions and my personal picks for the upcoming Tony Awards.
A lot of tough choices this year which means we could see some wild decisions. Will Kimberly Akimbo unscramble the win? Is Fat Ham destined to be or not to be the big winner? Will the Tony's rain on this Parade? Who will be the Topdog/Underdog on Sunday? Find out all this AND MORE!

I really just skipped right over Lighting Design, so here you go:

Lighting Design of a Musical: Prediction/Pick - New York, New York
May I ask why you think New York, New York will/your pick for this? I am curious as I was absolutely floored by Sweeney Todd with the Lighting particularly with its use of framing, innovative use of contrast and shadows, reoccurring use of color palette themes, and the city on fire sequence.
I was unable to see New York, New York so I am excited and intrigued on what aspects of the design there that is even more successful than sweeney todd.
Granted I do recognize that a criticism of the design of Sweeney Todd being that there are moments where the design choices with being so bold would be overshadowing/distracting because it was such a strong well executed choice.
Another criticism I might see is the design sometimes feeling that it always stays in a somewhat similar look throughout until you get to those jaw dropping moments but rarely straying far from the common general look.
But I will say the lighting design overall this season has been so strong across the board.
I'm going to scream and lose it no matter who wins Featured Actress between Bonnie or Betsy
Best choreography has to go to SOME LIKE IT HOT
One thing I don't see a lot of people pointing out is how skewed the voting pool for best score actually is this season. With the rule that they can miss one show, but the fact that both Almost Famous and Kpop were nominated for best score, voters have to have seen both of the shows that only ran in the fall to be able to vote for score. I think it's going to affect the score more than people realize. I just don't know how. Or would it be because both of these shows have cast recordings available that people can vote even if they didn't see either one?
I agree that’s going to skew specific categories, but mostly in the event that one of the short run shows is poised as a front runner. I don’t see KPOP or Almost Famous pulling out score (maybe?). But I def think it’ll help Ain’t No Mo’ and Cost of Living in the categories they’re both nominated in. Especially Best Director and Best Featured Actress!
@@theatreislife oh now agreed that it's not gonna give either of them a chance BUT I think that since the voters there are going to be mainly New York based voters, tour and regional voters not being able to contribute could see that being a surprise win... for Some Like It Hot.
How could you AFFORD to see all the shows ???
Hello. Based on buzz, I think Jodie Comer wins Best Actress in a play. I saw A Dolls House and will see Prima Facie soon. Definitely a 2 woman race in that category.
Agree on New York, New York for lighting. Sweeney Todd may win for revival. Will be seeing Some Like It Hot soon, so I hope it does well.
Not a fan of Into the Woods, just not my kind of thing. I know that’s heresy, but I didn’t care for it.

I think the way you framed the comment "We would have no cis men winning. And I really hope that happens" maybe not the best of saying it. The goal shouldn't be for cis men not to win. It should be for all person cis or otherwise to be included.
I meant what I said! The number one reason people don’t want genderless award categories is out of a fear that cis men will shut out everyone else. What better way to prove that wrong than for them to get shut out
@@theatreislife I see your point….but the person who gives the best performance should win, period. J Harrison Ghee absolutely deserves the Tony and as a huge fan I hope they get it! But because they gave an outstanding performance, not as a political stand
Did I not make it very clear how much I love their performance? I point this out because 1) it will be historic and fantastic, 2) if the best two leading performances truly won, Annaleigh and Victoria would both win. The reason the won’t is because we still gender awards BECAUSE of the fear of shutting non cis men out. 3) In my opinion, I would give Justin the award over Alex but that doesn’t mean I think Alex isn’t giving a stellar performance, and then winning and making history would be the icing on the cake, NOT the reason they won. Nobody here is rooting for a subpar performance to win just to make history, but it is still important to point out how historic it will be if it happens
Jessica chastain is definitely going to win , they like a doll's house way more then prima facie
