Hi everyone - just wanted to take a quick moment to thank you all - I do love this video and this performance as much as you all do - it is, in my opinion, the greatest performance at any Tony Awards. I so regret not having seen GGLAM on or off Broadway, and when I do get to finally watch my first Broadway musical, this will have contributed a large part to my musical obsession! I never would have imagined that a bored teenager downloading his favourite performance from the 2014 Tonys would have led to this video being watched over 2 million times!! (Although I do think that about 500,000 of those views may have just come from me.) I randomly re-uploaded the video when it was taken down (or rather, geoblocked for those outside the US), and am glad it brings all of you as much joy as it brings me.
Aw, I'm so glad I accidentally took a peek at the comment section coming back to my music tab this is so wholesome, glad you're still keeping an eye on it (and a little shocked lol)! Thank you so much for reuploading, this was the video that put GGLAM on my list for must-see musicals. This, even though it's short, is such an incredible production to witness with everybody on stage putting their absolute most into every part of the performance, thank you for putting it out there for the rest of us to enjoy it too ^^
The whole performance was amazing, but lets face it... The level of salt by which Sibella throws her purse at the door is the best part of this whole thing
Well when I someone has two people that they’re seeing simultaneously, the effort that they go through to keep them from seeing each other would definitely lead them to be out of breath
I love how Sibella is labeled as the mistress when she's the one married and Monty isn't yet. Like let's be real, Monty is the mistress in this situation
technically yes Monty is in this situation, but when everything is proper "the man can do no wrong" when technically he'd be cheating. however, he hadn't been engaged before this song. altho I think even if sibella had waited and married Monty I get feeling they'd be bad for eachother
well sibella did ditch him for a rich guy so she could have station in life. she never imagined in her wildest dreams that the man she loves and uses for her pleasure actually would rise to be a ranking lord. while pheobe is a girl who loves him for who he is kind and brilliant. but yes this is great for the fact that hes trying to keep the girls seperate from each other.. and later they agree to share him one the mistress and the other the wife.. and both best friends.. the ultimate dream!
james youngblood It’s kind of implied that Sibella has to marry the rich guy for her family, and considering Phoebe isn’t going to inherit any lofty family names and can marry for love, Sibella’s in a tough spot. She does love Monty a lot, though-she finds him smart and funny, wants the best for him, and they’ve known each other for a long time, as demonstrated when Monty says Sibella “teased him till he learned to skate”.
this using the medium of musical theatre to the maximum. dramatic irony and comedy mixed with over the top sequenced choreography, impossibly melodic, catchy, and rhythmic music and lyrics with wonderful costuming and use of the stage. it's a shame it's not running on broadway anymore.
It should still be running today (05/25/19), although the two actresses who succeeded the two above were so stunning bad (awful), that alone guaranteed the show would close.
What dazzles me the most is how everything is on beat. The screams, the swoons, the fact she threw the purse and it hit the door in time with the music, the constant slamming of the doors in time. Brilliant.
One of those numbers that they spent days and days and days blocking and probably had to almost eventually hate if anything went wrong. But when it clicks...
This whole performance is incredible, but I'm surprised nobody's pointed out how at 4:20 Sibella threw her purse at the door so it hit perfectly in time with the "OH" from Monty!
@@elicharissedr She is doing it to the music just like he does "Oh" to the music. So once they learned the music well it probably only took a few tries to rear back her arm a couple beats before the moment lol
@@GeorgeTSLC The acting choices, certainly, but timing like that takes an insane amount of practice to nail, no matter how experienced your actors are. Eliana Kreider no time sometimes, they’re just moving stages from their stage, sometimes the theatres host, so it really depends. They do it 8 times a week so...idk. But I memorized it
Bryce's frustrated jumping up and down as he says "BE JUST A MOMENT!!!" cracks me up every time:-). Wonderful performance!!! And I just love Jefferson Mays!!!
Literally, Lauren Worsham (Phoebe) does the cutest little things, i.e. the little giggles, etc.... Even from only watching this clip, you can see what kind of characters they all play. Great character development.

Lauren Faerber Hope you have as good a time as we did. But why wait so long? And I wonder just how long he can keep singing the same songs 8 times a week without burning out. At any rate, his success is fully deserved. Once in a blue moon, decent people make it on Broadway, but the precedent of this entire cast being able to do would confound a Vegas odds maker.
Don Reed Indeed! I've been going to Broadway Every other year; so, i never knew about this play until this tony awards; and I listen to it non stop! I do hope that i can see Bryce Pinkham, he's truly amazing. I love him a lot as Monty, I could never see anyone else playing Monty Navarro. Its truly a unique source of Musical Theatre I've ever seen. I cannot wait to see it
Lauren Faerber Well, we went to see The Audience last night (a great way to waste $$$ on cartoon characters; "The Simpsons Go To Buckingham Palace", or to watch Shelley Winters [in reality Judith Ivey] come back from the dead to portray Margaret Thatcher) and there across the street was Bryce Pinkham in The Heidi Chronicles display billboard. He has taken a "leave of absence" from "Guide." Thought you might want to know this. Also just came back from "On The 20th Century" and DEFINITELY go see that. It was just about perfect (too long in some spots, seriously too long),
Don Reed "Seriously too long" might have been necessary due to the time needed to set up another scene (the logistics of this show are enormous/daunting). Just a guess (watch whoever is involved in things like this to use it as an alibi whether or not it's true!)
I love how this scene plays with the 'sound leakage' of the doors. Like, you can see the characters react different when the doors are both closed vs one open vs both open. It's really cool

At 3:52 Pheobe sounds so excited I love it it's so cute lolllll. This musical is actual playing this weekend near me and I don't have the money to go see it how unfortunate 😖😞😭😢
This is why I love musical theater so much. The performers do these numbers with complex lyrics and detailed choreography and make it look effortless. And look like they are having a ball doing it
I'm so in love with this performance- from the singing to the blocking. And then, they all have like REALLY REALLY good comedic timing I'm so in love, this performance is so perfect.
When a musical such as "A Gentleman's Guide To Love & Murder" opens on Broadway, I find myself wishing I was an American or someone living in or close to New York and not across the pond. I'd have loved to see this show.
Z Botello I don't know if Ed Norton could sing, but I could totally see him as Monty, since he's a frequent collaborator of Wes. Maybe Ralph Fiennes or Bill Murray for Jefferson May's roles? For the ladies, it'd have to be legit musical theatre performers though, as you can't really find comedic actresses with such lush soprano voices in Hollywood.
Anna Kendrick as Phoebe, Cate Blanchett as Sibella (I know Cate is older and probably not a soprano, but she's so awesome she could give a mesmerize performance nevertheless), Neil Patrick Harris for Monty, and either JK Simmons, John Travolta or Kenneth Branagh as the relatives-in-one-guy
I don’t think a movie version could be as funny or as genius, the whole thing of it is being a stage musical and it would be hard to convert some things (Eg. Airplane arms in idkwid, the choreo of IDTMY) and that’s what makes agglam. It’s just meant FOR stage! Plus, there’s kind hearts and coronets.
This play was so amazing. I knew it was going to be funny but not rolling on the floor funny. The costume changes and were spot on and to realize they were all the same amazing actor, In my book a must see. Trying to convince the husband to go back and see it again before it closes.
How I wish I could see a live recording of this show! I live on the other side of the world, so no chance in hell I'd be able to catch this on Broadway or any other venue live (and this good!). I do have the Original Cast Recording, and I've played it over and over, but seeing the whole play (recorded as performed by these absolutely brilliant members of the original cast) would be absolute heaven!
One of the most original, creative, and mind-blowing productions I've seen on Broadway. It's not utilized much in this scene, but a projector illustrates much of the story behind the actors, including spirals when someone falls down a well! Also, watching one man play seven roles is absolutely mind-numbing. He just dies over and over again!! I could talk about this show for hours.
This is so precise and amazing. It makes me jealous as hell. In my head this is how I look in my community theater plays until I actually see the video and realize it couldn't be further from this. This is just an absolutely beautiful piece of theater.
This is such an underrated musical. And this number is GOLD I notice something new every time I watch it. These three are amazing, and did such a good job in this show. It’s a shame it didn’t run longer
There's a few shows I'm still kicking myself for not seeing when I had the chance...this is possibly number one on that list. Especially for Mays, ggaaaahhh!!
This is one of the greatest musical theatre scenes I've ever seen. It's absolutely amazing and hilarious with great acting, the singing was fantastic, and everything was impressively in sync.
Funniest moments: All of the opening lady characters lines (the guy that plays the members of the family) Monty: pay no attention... That's my new my MAN servant... Whatsworth?.... [hand gestures] look what you've done to me... Be just a moment! Virtue [Phebie lol] : darling first I have to say this, I've decided to marry you(exited child) ... how I'm longing to marry you (deep tone) Sabella : isn't this fun, isn't she done.... Why don't you send the cow away.... Throw purse at door. This is all done and written so well
I've been watching this video for 2 years and finally got to see in last night at the Wharton Center in Lansing, MI. It did not disappoint! One of the funniest shows I have seen ... loved the touring cast!
I saw this two weeks before it closed on Broadway. God what a great show. And this number was marvelous. I think I've seen this video a few dozen times and I swear this number, especially that very last chord, never gets old. Ever. It will live forever.

Absolutely criminal there's no official video recording of this production
This production never getting a pro shot is my roman empire 🥲🥲
totally agree 😔
I'm grateful indeed for your gracious bestowment. Yes, Wadsworth, I told you... BE JUST A MOMENT!!!!
Best line in the entire song.
For legal reasons the show basically can not be seen outside the US but it was BRILLIANT production
I could talk about this show for hours.
if you guys are wowed by the intro for this... you guys should find out what the main gag of this whole show is.
This is so precise and amazing. It makes me jealous as hell. In my head this is how I look in my community theater plays until I actually see the video and realize it couldn't be further from this. This is just an absolutely beautiful piece of theater.
It’s been years and I STILL DESPERATELY NEED TO SEE IT.
I don't care that it only closed a couple of years ago. This needs to be revived the second Broadway starts doing performances again.
2:34 The harmonies here are so good!
I was today years old when I found out that the guy who plays Monty (Bryce Pinkham) voices Stolas in Helluva Boss
...
LIKE, WHAT!
We all love a big spectacle musical with huge sets but man, this is what theater is about. Perfect timing, perfect performances.
This is such an underrated musical. And this number is GOLD I notice something new every time I watch it. These three are amazing, and did such a good job in this show. It’s a shame it didn’t run longer
It's incredible that Bryce agreed to be Stolas on Helluva Boss. He's absolutely amazing!!
Is it just me or could anyone else imagine a young Julie Andrews playing the role of Phoebe?
i can't tell you how many times i've come back to watch this
THANK GOD THIS SHOW IS STOPPING IN TORONTO AND THANK HEAVENS THAT WE'RE THE SECOND LAST STOP ON THE NATIONAL TOUR 😍😍😍😍😍😍
+Christian Roderos You're going to love it!!!!
+ChirsRoderosVlogs I saw it tonight in Denver and it was AMAZING!
i saw it at the begining of last month here in orlando florida, omg its amazing it jumped to my top 5 musicals ever!
I feel winded just watching this lol
I purchased this Album, right after the Tony Awards
well deserving the best musical tony award if even only for this number!
I feel like this is so underrated. This should be associated with the word "musicals" more often.
I love this trio. It's super funny and the music is great. This performance is amazing. Bravo!!!
Funniest moments:
All of the opening lady characters lines (the guy that plays the members of the family)
Monty: pay no attention... That's my new my MAN servant... Whatsworth?.... [hand gestures] look what you've done to me... Be just a moment!
Virtue [Phebie lol] : darling first I have to say this, I've decided to marry you(exited child) ... how I'm longing to marry you (deep tone)
Sabella : isn't this fun, isn't she done.... Why don't you send the cow away.... Throw purse at door.
This is all done and written so well
Saw the show three times. Would totally go see it again. This number was the one that convinced me WOW we have a GREAT new musical on our hands. :)
This was spectacular, but my favorite thing is Phoebe’s voice. It sounds beautiful...but slightly insane at the same time.
I've been watching this video for 2 years and finally got to see in last night at the Wharton Center in Lansing, MI. It did not disappoint! One of the funniest shows I have seen ... loved the touring cast!
The timing for EVERYTHING was perfect.
The amount of times I've watched this is borderline unhealthy 😂
I've watched this video literally over a hundred times, and I still laugh my ass off at "Yes, Wadsworth, I told you, I'll BE JUST A MOMENT!!!!!!!"
this is so chaotic i love it so much
Anyone else who get's lots of Sondheim vibes from this? The witty and funny lyrics, the rhyme - hello Little night music 2.0!!
I always think of this as an unhinged and comedic version of Kiss me from Sweeney!
this is my favorite tony performance of all time😍😍
The timing in this piece is nothing short of amazing. One of my all time favorite Broadway tunes going back over 60 years of music.
I saw this two weeks before it closed on Broadway. God what a great show. And this number was marvelous. I think I've seen this video a few dozen times and I swear this number, especially that very last chord, never gets old. Ever. It will live forever.
WONDERFUL PERFORMANCES ONE OF MY FAVORITE NUMBERS!
I saw the touring company today. Fantastic show, and this song was definitely a highlight.
Still one of the best songs and best performances of Musical talent!!!!!! I love this!!!!
I've seen it on Broadway. One of my favorites.
Whenever I need a happy boost I come back and watch this. Perfection.
