Congratulations on making a fine video . Thanks to your wife also for the camera work . And no stinking music !!!! 👍
You’re welcome!
I bought four drive up ramps for these type of jobs last years and they work great. Give a little more room. Thanks for the video.
You’re welcome.
Thanks for the video. Need to do this on my wife's car and always like to check out a video before doing a task on a specific vehicle the first time.
You’re welcome and I’m glad you found the video to be helpful. Here is a link to my other CR-V videos:

Great Video Paul! Thanks for sharing it with us! Also Kudos to your Camera Person He or She did an Excellent Job! Especially every time the wind blew the plastic sheathing!
Thank you! My wife videos and she is very patient and helpful. Thank you for the encouragement.
@@PaulNaylor3 And by the way...yesterday I received all the parts necessary to do the job and After I saw your video this morning I performed the A 1,6,7 Maintenance Service on my 2021 CRV Touring with 17,560 miles on it! Thanks to you and your Wife, all went well! 👍🏻👊🏻💪🏻
Glad to hear!
Definitely ‼️👍
I am so glad that I watched this video.
Good video, very helpful. The fill plug was in pretty good on mine and I ended up punching myself in the face when it broke loose.
Yes, the fill bolts get tight. I try to stay clear of the direction I’m pulling but this is an awkward location and I understand how it happens.
Paul, thank you for this excellent video, well narrated! I also like your great tips!
You’re welcome.
Nice and simple video. I am about to get the 2024 CRV AWD I've owned many Honda but AWD will be the first so I am looking around for the procedure. I've changed ATF fluid on my accord and odyssey many times so this one looks simple enough for me to do. Without the dip stick, its hard to tell how much to put in so I am going to measure the old fluid and put in the same amount. Btw, good tip on opening the fill bolt first which I always do.
Thank you and I hope you enjoy your CR-V!
Thanks for the video. My only suggestion is backing up the vehicle onto ramps with the jack stands under the axle as backup. I feel ramps are more safer than relying on jack stands with the floor jack as backup.
I use jackstands instead of ramps because I typically rotate tires when I do this job so ramps don’t work for that. The way you do it and the way I do it both have multiple safety layers so they’re both good.
I have a half inch drive breaker bar that is in my vehicle with the socket I would need to get the wheels off. I never really need it thankfully but it is a lot better than that wrench they supply you with. You can get an adapter for that to use a 3/8 inch drive socket on or if you didn't already buy the socket see if you can find 1/2 inch drive. These days you can find just about anything. If the half inch bar makes it so much easier to get wheels off then the drain and fill plug should be a lot easier. You made a good point about undoing the fill plug first too. I wonder how many people did the drain plug first and had that "oh no" moment!!
Good idea about the 1/2” to 3/8” reducer, allowing you to use the larger breaker bar for more torque.
Thanks for the video some very helpful tips.
You’re welcome
Does this job require diff fluid from Honda or can I use another brand such as AMSOIL?
I would recommend using the Honda fluid as it’s only about $11 /quart. You could research and find out what Amsoil product would substitute if you prefer. I stick with Honda fluid on transmission, transfer assembly, and rear differential.
Excellent video.. Thank you..
You’re welcome!
Good morning
Nice video. My honda crv 2020 displays on the dashboard: "AWD, check system 4 R M" can you tell me what to do? THANKS.
Hello. I researched your question and, unfortunately, I cannot recommend any solution. Some comments I read stated that if it’s not blinking it’s not that serious but I also would be bothered if I received that warning light and it normally had not been on. There has to be a reason it wasn’t on before and now it is. Also, I couldn’t find any results when I googled the 4 R M that you mentioned. You could see if the problem persists for a few days and, if the light does not go away, you could take it to a Honda dealer for them to diagnose. Maybe you can reply with an update when you have one. We would appreciate it and I hope you get this fixed. 🙏
thank you dear sir. It's nice of you to answer me. a mechanic scanned the car. He says it's the rear differential that is defective. . THANKS
You’re welcome
This video is great! I have two questions though? For this job Can I just jack up the back and not the front? Also, how much about did doing it yourself save you?
Thank you! Yes, you can just jack up the back. I do all 4 wheels because I rotate the tires. If you jack up just the back remember to chock your front wheels for safety. It takes 2 quarts, which cost me $22. I don’t know what the dealership charges. You could call your Honda service department and ask how much they would charge for this job and see what the difference is. If you do, please share with us what you find out!
Hi Paul.
Thank you for such a comprehensive video.
Can you confirm please if the washers on a 2007 Honda crv petrol 2.0 engine automatic has the same sizes: 20 mm for the fill in and 18 mm for the emptying draining bolt?
Thank you
I do not know. Your Honda parts person would know or you could check on a Honda forum.
Dont the wheels need to be flat and car level or diff level will not be true. Just got one of these, nice vid thank you
Yes, the vehicle needs to be reasonably level. The viewing angle early in the video may seem like the rear is elevated but the jack stands on all 4 corners are about the same. Other views, such as at 6:11, show the front & rear tires at close to the same height off of the ground.
Thanks for the info, do you have any video on replacing the fluid from the front transfer case ? Thx.
The CR-V just has the transmission, not a transfer case like the Pilot, Passport, & Ridgeline. Here is my transmission fluid video:

Great video
Thank you.
Hi I changed mine yesterday for the 1st time. I went a little over to 19k miles on car and the fluid came out almost black very dark. Is this normal ?
I can tell you that your first change will be when the fluid looks the worst and when your drain bolt magnet will pick up the most metal shavings. Every change hereafter will look better and better.
Can’t I just change the transmission fluid and pour new fluid in next to the engine? Why is the pump used?
This is for the rear differential found only on AWD (All-Wheel Drive) vehicles which is not the same as your transmission. The transmission fluid change video can be found here: th-cam.com/video/YHRd1-NPxjw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QX6gIivnRHPMz1EE
I understand but I thought the same fluid was used for both. Somewhere online I read that changing the transmission fluid also changed the transfer case fluid. Thanks for your response
Sorry I was confused. Thought you were changing the transfer case fluid.
That’s okay, that’s how we learn and I’m glad you asked. That’s the great thing about TH-cam. Some vehicles are different. I also have a Pilot & Ridgeline, both AWD, and they have a transmission, transfer case, & rear differential fluid that all need to be changed.
What the viscosity recommended for deferential fluid CR-V 2021 as I can not find the original DPS-F II
When my Honda dealer was out they sold me the Acura brand DPSF and it is interchangeable.
After how many kilometers we have to do this job?
25,000 km
Do you need a torch wrench or can we do it with the breaker bar?
You definitely need the breaker bar to loosen the drain bolt and fill bolt. The torque wrench is optional. I use it to make sure I torque the bolts correctly but as long as you snug them up good without overtightening you should be fine. You can find an affordable torque wrench on Amazon or Harbor freight.
@PaulNaylor3 Thanks Paul I will look into just picking one up. My honda dealer wants over 200 bucks. I can buy all for under that.
how many miles you change that oil thank you
When it has low miles you might want to do it every 15,000 miles but after it has 60,000 miles or more I think every 30,000 miles is good.
What the alternative of DPS-F II fluid
When my Honda dealer was out they sold me the Acura brand DPSF and it is interchangeable.
do you have the 1.5 engine or the 2.0?
1.5 liter turbo
What's the Honda part # for the fluid ?
Honda DPSF-II (Dual Pump Fluid 2)
Honda Part # 08200-9007 Dual Pump II Differential Fluid
😢😢😢super differential
Not sure what you mean? What’s going on with your CR-V?
I bought 2 extractors. Much quicker.
Are you just taking off the fill bolt and using the extractor to empty the reservoir and then putting your fluid back in and putting the fill bolt back in? If so, it would be quicker, but your drain bolt has a built-in magnet to catch metal shavings and the only way to clean that is to remove the fill bolt and wipe off the magnet. It only takes a few minutes extra to do it the way I do it and once every 15,000 miles is not that often.
This looks to complicated and time consuming. I'll just take to dealership who stated they would this job for $69.95
Mine quoted $190 for dif, $150 for brake, $210 for trans. 2021 CRV
Wow....where are you located? Some dealers charge that much for a tire rotation. In my area a "special" is over $89 for an oil change.
Drive down to have your diff. fluid changed immediately b4 the dealer reads these comments.
