    Great pre storm custom. Great to see you add the fuel of LP. Much better than gasoline. One of the biggest issues with standby generators is the homeowners don’t “exercise “ them enough. Meaning if set for a long period of time, they can loose their polarity. And then the unit needs to be excited by a 12 v battery momentarily. Curious if a Stand By Switch or Receptacle are installed, so can simple plug in the unit to energize a whole house configuration if the generator is adequately sized for the whole house. Great videos

    • @PaulNaylor3
      @PaulNaylor3 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you, Dave. You mentioned the biggest problem with standby generators is they are often ignored until they are needed. If someone runs them for five or 10 minutes at a time every three or four months and then shuts the fuel off letting the carburetor empty and uses a fuel additive the generator should be ready to go. I also recommend keeping an extra spark plug on hand. Yes, these generators can be plugged in to operate a house when done properly. Many people install a transfer switch on the main electrical panel which makes it safe to run a generator and not put power back to the lines, which can kill a lineman working on power lines. Once a transfer switch is installed someone can plug the generator directly into the transfer switch and, based on the size of the generator, can use outlets and everything in the house as you normally would. The next step up from that is a whole house generator which uses natural gas and kicks on automatically when the power goes out. This requires nothing of the homeowner other than to keep the generator maintained. The transfer switch may cost around $1,500 and the whole house generator may cost $10,000 or more dollars. My way of doing this is the most inexpensive. I have about $600 in the generator itself but by the time you add accessories (wheel kit, cover), gas cans, propane tanks, and the extension cords, it is easily over $1,200 in investment.

    Hi Paul, One question I have.Any specific reason you put in a bit more fluid than what you drained? All the other videos stress to measure exactly what comes out and put that exact quantity back.Im assuming this is because transmissions are very sensitive to extra fluid.The process seems very straightforward idk why it’s getting me nervous lol

    • @PaulNaylor3
      @PaulNaylor3 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I chose to put in 4 quarts based on everything I had read and watched prior to doing this job. The only problem I see with only relying on what was in there before, is the right amount of fluid may not have been in there before. Since you have the dipstick, the right way to do what you are saying would be to make sure the level on the dipstick is exactly where you want it before you drain it. Then I would feel comfortable using that method of putting back in exactly what was drained as long as nothing spilled. I think you will end up very close to 4 quarts. Once you do it, please comment and let us know how much yours took. Don’t be afraid of this job. You can do it!

And I just picked up a new almost new 6500 watt generator of Facebook marketplace for $100 because woman said “it won’t start”. All it was was a dirty carburetor because she left fuel in it. A huge win for me because that same Ryobi generator at Home Depot is $899 new. In any event, I was looking for ideas and that board in the window is a good one. I live up in Maine so we will lose power a handful of times. Keep the content coming, I originally came here for Honda info but you seem to hit on other things as well.

    • @PaulNaylor3

      Good question and one you will get mixed opinions. The color does not matter but the types of coolant must be compatible or it can cause serious problems due to chemical reactions. If you talk with your mechanic and he is unsure of the compatibility then, yes, you could do a complete flush and start fresh.

It now has 90k miles on it(mainly highway) and i am looking to drain and fill 1-2 times over the coarse of the next 5k miles( want to do it slowly just incase). The car still shifts decent so im not too worried. Im shopping for fluid and its so confusing. The Manual says SP IV but SP IV has been superseeded by SP IV M. Can you shed some light on a good fluid to use? The OEM one is real expensive tbh.

      The Valvoline MAX Life ATF full synthetic is compatible and safe to use for the Elantra transmission. It is economical to purchase and readily available at Walmart and most parts stores. That is what i used in this video and it is performing well. The Hyundai compatibility is listed on the back of the bottle as recommended. I hope everything goes well for you. If you think about it, comment and let us know how the work goes for you.

    Outstanding so very helpful and professional information!! I made notes on my cell phone when I am ready to change all fluids Curious what miles you did your first changes at? Do all 3 fluids at same time of miles? Thanks again for all your outstanding commitment!! My 2023 Ridgeline is at 19,000 miles currently

      Thank you for the kind words. I recommend the following maintenance intervals (miles): Oil change & Tire Rotation: 5,000 Rear Differential, Engine Air Filter, Cabin Air Filter: 15,000 Automatic Transmission Fluid & Transfer Case: 30,000 Coolant: 100,000 The rear differential and transfer case fluid are for AWD (all-wheel-drive) models only.

    Bro when check valve start dripping should i wait to stop before installing the bolt?

    • @PaulNaylor3
      @PaulNaylor3 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When you are adding the fluid you should notice pretty quickly that it’s dripping. You could wait until that drip slows down to a very slow drip and then put the bolt in.

    Wonderful video sir, thanks so much for your insights and sharing the experience with us. You make that look like something I would like to try. I'll check into the attached supply item list and watch this a couple more times before I jump in. I thought the MM code system was designed and engineered to tell when it time for these services yet you stated it's a 30K fluid service on all three components, why it that?

    • @PaulNaylor3
      @PaulNaylor3 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for the kind words. The 30,000 mile maintenance intervals for the automatic transmission & transaxle fluid are what I practice. I believe it’s also consistent with Honda recommended intervals and these components are so critical to the life of the vehicle that I would rather change them at this interval than wait for the maintenance minder code. This is just my personal preference. For the rear differential I change that every 15,000 miles but once the vehicle reaches 60,000 miles I plan to also go to a 30,000 mile interval on that. The reason for that is that by 60,000 miles it is well broken in and there are hardly any metal shavings on the magnet at that point. Again, this is just my personal preference and I’m sharing with you what I do.

    Why is it necessary to remove the cable from the battery post?

    • @LouisStreet
      @LouisStreet 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PaulNaylor3 Thank you, but there is another negative wire going to another spot on the vehicle that would stay connected if the cable were left on the post so why would there be a spark?

    • @PaulNaylor3
      @PaulNaylor3 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I have seen it spark so I disconnect it. The reason disconnecting the negative keeps it from sparking is you are no longer receiving energy from the battery.
