My female Cane COrso was the best dog i ever had. She was friend to all my group and everyone loved her. Gentle with Children and older family. Only once did she have to be aggressive to protect us from a violent lose dog. best Dog ever. A gentle protective giant. Miss her terribly.
My first experience with a Cane Corso is my daughter's. He is the most gentle, loving dog I have ever been around. He always has a ball in his mouth, wagging his nub. My daughter has a 4 year old and a 6 year old. We have tons of pics of the 4 year old using him as a pillow. No worries. Once when we went to visit he was in the basement, I entered the house, but he didn't know I was there, so when he came up and saw someone in his house, he charged. One of the scariest moments of my life! I screamed his name, and it was like hitting a light switch....right back to loving mode.
One of the best dogs I ever had the privilege of knowing was a Cane Corso. Her owner put in a lot of work with her and it showed. She was so well behaved and thought she was a tiny lap dog. Her bark was great and meant business. I loved that if she barked it meant there was a reason. She left an indelible imprint on my heart and I miss her dearly.
Lost our , Boss, recently at 10 to cancer. He was truly loved my my wife and I, our four daughters, and 10 grandkids. He was a protective yet gentle giant. We miss him every day.
Sorry for your loss. Sounds like an amazing family member. It's amazing just how much the loss of a dog can affect you. I lost one a few years ago and still think of him all the time even though I have 2 fantastic dogs right now. There was just something about my Buddy.
We have two of these guys now... and as someone that's had dogs for 44 years, I have never seen a breed like this in my life, they are incredible. A massively strong breed, that is a teddy bear to it's owners. I can't see ever owning anything else. Beautiful breed for sure, that being said, they aren't for everyone.
Now that I've had the privilege of having one in my house can't imagine a life without 1 or 5 in my house. Just a perfect friend who will always be there for you and will always be loyal and a giant playmate!
Haha, 1 or 5. Now you sound like my wife. "But he needs a friend.....well now they both need someone to play with.....well heck we already have 3 why not 2 more!"
Stubborn is right!!! But my corso knows who is boss in the home. He gets exercise regularly, has never destroyed anything, my corso is not neutered, he eats complete raw meals, he is very loyal, loving and amazing. But training is a must!!!!!
@@TailWaggingTales no. We fed him kibble since he was a puppy. He hated it but he had to eat it. He developed canine acne and other skin issues after 10 months old and for over a year. It was so bad. Then I researched raw diets and did the switch. It was thought at first but he loves his raw food. After a month his skin issues started going away and now he has been on raw for two years and he has lots of energy, happy and doing wonderful. That would be a good topic , the different diets and their pros and cons. I believe all dogs are different and some can tolerate kibble better than others. My Corso definitely was born to be wild. Hehehe.
Corsos arent "Just a dog" they're a lifestyle. Its a huge commitment to have one. Do not get one if you think you'll ever need to rehome them. You NEED to know what you're doing. @5:58 No, they're not good at traveling and moving frequently, they like to be home.. protecting their castle.. they need stability.
This is an excellent point. A LOT of breeds, including many guardian and herding breeds etc, prefer routine. Some lines do better than other and they all need to become adjusted to travel at an early age. Competitions require travel so it becomes important to get them to associate positive experiences with travel, during the early socialization window. They'll still be happiest at home but at least they'll be able to deal with going places. They are NOT dog-park dogs! I don't like seeing people letting them run loose in new strange dog groups constantly. That's not the best way to socialize any dog and with a Corso it's a risk.
@Janeway1269 I got my girl December 2021, she was a puppy. I always took her to the dog park with my boy, who is a St bernard/lab mix.. she has always gone for car rides and to the dog park. I noticed last winter she only wanted to go out on warmer days 0c + even with her winter coat on, she only liked warmer weather. ...so now, she really just doesn't wanna come for car rides.. I have to leash her to get her to come with us. She likes the car once she's in it.. I have an outback, they both have lots of room.. but just getting her out of the house she doesn't wanna do. My girl does great at the dog park.. she loves everyone and all dogs. But she knows our pack mentality, she knows I'm the boss, she knows my boy is Alpha.. so she knows her place, and that puts her at ease.
My Corso is coming up on 3yrs old and has travelled with us since he was 10 weeks old. He LOVES to adventure. With our guy, he is quite literally happy to do anything, so long as his people are with him. He likes long road trips & short ones. It makes no difference to him so long as we are there. WE are what makes him happy. I have heard of Corsi that don't like to travell, but, I also know many that do. Might be individual to the dog. I 100% agree with everything else in the comment. They are a massive commitment for the entirety of their lives. Best time sink ever tho, in my humble opinion! :) If you're ready for it, that is. :)
Our cane corso is perfect for our home. Her training is so much fun. I don’t even have to speak she answers to hand justices and signals. Best decision I made was to get her she is the perfect loyal guardian!
I helped my friend dog sit a cane corso once and i loved her. She's so gentle. She was just a giant teddy bear. We had to take her out, but she ran onto the couch, went completely limp and refused to cooperate. I had to carry this massive beast (like 50kg) down the stairs to get her out as shes hadn't gone out yet. It was my first time seeing a cane corso and naturally i was nervous in case she snapped at me, but she literally never growled or barked at all. Just a big scary, lazy baby.
Id love one of these wanted one for a couple years now. I do have a rottie and a Caucasian shepard so im use to big and gaint dogs. My sister got one a month ago and its doing so well with its training
I'm curious, did your sister pick one up from a breeder as pup? I currently have a 90lb Redbone Coonhound and I think that she's a giant in size already, but I love the look of a Cane Corso myself.
I had my cane for 4 years. He was heavily trained and socialised. However he was so protective that he could cause other dogs to become aggressive . He got into a fight with another dog at the park, the other dog was killed, and due to the law in Australia he was euthanised by the authorities. Please be aware that some protective powerful dogs can sometimes misread threats and cause a lot of problems and heartache. These kind of stories are never told about dog breeds and I think it should be part of the discussion.
Simple fact is only experienced, strong (mentally and ideally physically too) and totally committed owners should have any of these powerful breeds. They can be the best dogs ever but if things go south then you, or importanly other people, can't shake them off like a daschund or even a big Labrador.
My friend had one that would walk with him all over the streets without a leash. Just follow him and stay outside when he went into Starbucks and terrorized the people just by sitting there. Nicest dog you ever met but people would walk way around him out of fear.
My brother got one. Tried moving him out the way of some chicken breasts so his staffy could get some, he gnawed on my arm abit😅 swelled up the size of a golf ball n all, guess u never mess with dogs when it comes to food.

Great review! 2 things not mentioned...they do drool, usually around food and usually not to excess. Because of their strength, agility, intelligence and the need to be well trained, they are not for 1st time dog owners.💖
You're the first Cane Corso that I've seen watching TH-cam on your own. I hope that you're at least being supervised. I'm glad that you like the video.
You're very welcome. I'll be completely honest until I started this channel I always pronounce it incorrectly myself, but with a bit of education I quickly discovered the truth.
This is great but I think they need more exercise than you are letting on here. Exercise is crucial, a young, frustrated Corso will tear the joint down. In my experience they are very smart, easy to train and love interacting and playing with their people. Love this breed.
Cane corso without exercise, when he's at mine he just finds something to chew on/destroy. Not furniture just random stuff like plastic bottles. Their jaw strength no joke tho, he bit through a 2cm thick bone just casually. "Bit" me before but I kinda deserved it, tried moving him away from food for another dog to get some.
I saw a cane puppy attack a store associate today, she was just holding him and he randomly started growing at her :( her face was bleeding after. Ive never been afraid of dogs before until now
I'd disagree with the exercise low maintenance. I have researched this breed and I have one and my input is of not excercised regular they get very stressed
@@TailWaggingTales your welcome . And I can say they really do need a lot of walking and need to run everyday or else mine anyway gets restless and irritable . And also mental stimulation. Very hard breed to keep up with but rewarding if you can do it .
Yes, my Corso needs at least two miles in the morning and two miles in the afternoon. And lots of brain games in between. He likes to sleep a lot but he loves to exercise.
Hi,thank you for this video. I live in Italy and i am totally in love with these dogs but allt he videos i watch tell that they are not for first te dog owners. When my conditions are right , the right house and time to dedicate for its training..rigth from the first days. I do not think..once well triamed it would be an issue if its owner is a determined small sized lady or yes? I guess you will confirm me that i first need to have experiemce qith another breed?Thank you
You're welcome. They are definitely not a good first dog. In fact I would hope that you have bigger dog experience as well. This is a very fascinating breed and requires a lot of attention to keep them happy and healthy.
@@TailWaggingTales thank you. I realize this. It is abreed thatneeda lots of dedication , socialization and training especially in its puppy phase. I am sure the expenses are quite high, but after that first phase things become easier...apart from the nutrition i guess. Well ..my second dog will be a Cane Corso...until then i give everyday snacks to a 6 year old female.cane corso and she is sooooo sweet with me. Giving hugs and kisses to her saves my day and keeps me up when i feel.down💕🐾
If you can handle a cane corso and want to level up look into a Presa Canario. Such an awesome breed that you don’t see everyday. NOT FOR THE INEXPERIENCED
I don't understand ppl who own dog like Corso which is a size of medium sized female humans but try to budget their monthly food cost for less than $100 a month.... when comes to the pet ownership, all our commonsense goes out of the window....
I got my puppy during the height of the pandemic. We had very limited training and almost no socialization. Recently he bite my son. What can I do to reset him at the 2 year mark?
I think at that point you remove him. When a cane corso gets to biting anyone you either fix the training through professional intervention or you re-home him. But hey if you're happy with the idea of your kid getting mangled then all power to you.
When we bought ours, the tail only was docked. The ears weren't cropped. We decided not to have hers cropped, and she is absolutely adorable yet has that, "don't mess with me" look. It's hard here in the South to find a veterinarian that'll crop the ears as now they think it is animal cruelty, cosmetic.
My son has a 5mo old. The breeder had it done with her vet. They charged $650. Several vets reccomended cropping, due to their propensity to get ear infections.
@@Donotevengotherewithmeit's animal cruelty to chop off or edit any part of an animal on looks alone. Also you're a wuss for needing a power house of a dog.
Knew this breed via friends. During the pandemic a friend passed away and he had a 1,5 year old pup. We adopted him and fell in love. Sure they are "a handfull" to maintain but isn't any animal you take full care of? Stop whining about that; go all the way or go home. Our fella is a good boy who does his utmost every day to please us and thus himself. If I HAVE to mention a downside; the fact he doesn't know that more than 1 metre apart from us is NOT a problem....your shadow gets taller than him at a distance....😂
hahaha, you have a shadow puppy as well! Great job on adopting this amazing breed and taking excellent care of him. I love your saying of go all the way or go home. I have a family member right now that I'm trying to teach the same thing to with their new puppy.
@@TailWaggingTales I personally think you can't go wrong with this breed as long as your intentions are good; they pick up a good vibe 🥰 hope your family member will be as full of praise of the dog as we clearly are...👍
@TailWaggingTales Ah yes; the so called colour in your voice. That is actually a basis in communication; whether to humans or dogs 😉 I do not know how old your family member is but way back in the day when I was young (and fab as I like to prank myself...) I had my first dog; a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I went to a puppy class with him and they taught us to use colour in your voice. Sure we felt like idiots in the beginning with high pitched tones for reward and low baritone tones for correction but when I look back it was all worth it; all my dogs after decades have been raised like I mentioned and they all were and are dreams to walk with. Even our cats we treat the same way and people are stunned about it...and we crack up laughing because it's a "simple" but effective trick. Hope your family member finds the right path to go in upbringing the dog....soòoo rewarding after all.
I only have a little over an acre, and I want one- but I think they need more space than that? I've trained, and been honored to "own" a large dog before, but I want to make sure. I also know that you basically give up an entire year, or more, of your life- they go everywhere with you, they learn everything that way. My Gus had his own cooler with bottled water and Scooby snacks 😘
Eric's wife: LOL> Fur tank. YUP! We were caretakers to a roommmate's Weimaraner and I had never had a big dog 70 pounds of muscle unfixed is a wrestling match every time he needed to be bathed because to HIM the hose was PLAYTIME!
In contemporary times, the practice is primarily upheld for aesthetic reasons. However, in the breed's early days, when it was initially introduced to safeguard livestock, the ears were expertly cropped, and the tail docked strategically to minimize the likelihood of a predator gaining a foothold during confrontations.
I want guard dog why should I socialise them outside my family ? I have two corsos never took them to the dog park I want security I don't want friendly dogs.
You forget about the drooling, which is common among mastiff breeds, which is unfortunatelly a deal breaker for me , because I can't stand it! Otherwise it's my favourite breed!
@loanalazar, I have a two year old intact male he has Italian breeding and is not a heavy drooler, perhaps because we live at 7600 feet and low humidity but even in the 80s low droolage. If he plays hard with other dogs he has had a foaming mouth , no problem in house. Now that's my dog, I love him to pieces, everything I could of wanted and more than expected. If you ever get one go through a good breeder, there are to many backyard breeders that are not breeding to inhance the breed nor breeding for temperament, and breeding for size and weight beyond the Italian standards. That's important to me as they can have joint issues, my boy I'm guessing around 110 Hopefully will not break down as he gets older. That's my two cents.
That's a tricky one to nail down. I've had great success with breaking dogs, but I have a family member right now that claims to be doing all the right things but their dog just refuses to play along.
Mongrel dogs in most the world, only usa and italy recognizes cane corsos amd thats recently. Farm utility dogs really, man made in the 80s to look like an extinct dog of war , nowadays used for guarding and companionship but worth notjing in most the world, in the uk there mongrels but classes as bulldogs also because i think they are just neopolitan mastiff x bulldog
@@TailWaggingTalesok from this link you posted it's fine both ways.As he says some people want to get fancy about it. When people say Kayne it makes me think of Kim Kardashions ex😂😂😂
this dog needs so mich time hey do you say you dont need time for brushing ? but this dog is decision for life ! not easy not a dog for worker or young boys girls this dog is a life change every dog human or cat that give you attention can make this dog a other dog you are the only one and this is ist no person that i now can make this dog happy or right

Very lovable dogs ! And when they trust you…they are the best friend…ever !
I saw a cane puppy attack a store associate today, she was just holding him and he randomly started growing at her :( her face was bleeding after. Ive never been afraid of dogs before until now
Thank you for this video just got one. This really helped me understand his needs and the work I need to do for him...
Great vid I was looking for dogs 101 and happy I watched this one
Beautiful breed!! Very nice video 🙌 they are very loyal and protective with the family 😌
They are an amazing breed for sure.
My brother has one and yeah family. Only have to tap him and he's already getting protective, not with the kids tho 😂 he only loves his daddy.
they are beautiful
I completely agree. I love the Cane Corso!
thank you for this video
My pleasure
I'd disagree with the exercise low maintenance. I have researched this breed and I have one and my input is of not excercised regular they get very stressed
Thank you for you firsthand experience. I can only go by what I've read with this breed personally.
@@TailWaggingTales your welcome . And I can say they really do need a lot of walking and need to run everyday or else mine anyway gets restless and irritable . And also mental stimulation. Very hard breed to keep up with but rewarding if you can do it .
100 percent, they seem to share a lot of characteristics with boxers that also need a lot of exercise
Yes, my Corso needs at least two miles in the morning and two miles in the afternoon. And lots of brain games in between. He likes to sleep a lot but he loves to exercise.
Do they have a winter under coat? I had a Rottweiler that loved the winter, not sure if Cane can handle the winter walks in Minnesota.
From what I've read, they do have an undercoat.
Giving hugs and kisses to her saves my day and keeps me up when i feel.down💕🐾
I have two black corso, 1 and 4 year old 😊❤ very smart bread
I’m fostering one right now and seriously considering adopting him. He’s amazing so far but he’s only a puppy
If you can handle a cane corso and want to level up look into a Presa Canario. Such an awesome breed that you don’t see everyday. NOT FOR THE INEXPERIENCED
That reminds me, I need to do some research on the Presa Canario and put a video together on that breed.
Level up ? Keep dreaming , my 180 lbs Corso takes care of anything !
@@TailWaggingTalesdefinitely should. One of the last great breeds that hasn’t been washed up with over breeding
@@watz7316dude your 180lb dog will be out of breath before a lighter working dog. Not the same level as a Presa. This isn’t new information
I’ll do just fine….. sounds like the dog has My same qualities and able to keep people at bay
You two would be a good match.
i really like this information now i got to nerves, what kind of treat was she giving him thx
I love this breed as well. I don't recall the exact treat that was given.
I don't understand ppl who own dog like Corso which is a size of medium sized female humans but try to budget their monthly food cost for less than $100 a month.... when comes to the pet ownership, all our commonsense goes out of the window....
That's a very good point. They expect this small horse to eat like a rabbit all month.
Some people are just pussies who want to get a massive dog to intimidate other people. And with a cane corso yeah they need a TON of food.
Cool I used to own one😊🎉 it’s OK if you’re still working on my research I know I gave you two suggestions
Yep, I'm working on them. I had a lot to finish to get this long video completed. I hope that you enjoyed this video.
@@TailWaggingTales I totally enjoyed 😊
i cant find the tik tok vid of the dog meals could u post the whole thing in shorts?
Love my boy Tecumseh!
Don't get one unless you have time to train but also to be around them. They have a huge heart and get very sad when thier pack is gone.
Beautiful Dogs.
I povednalm my three they were evrurign to me they were big perks but we're very dominant
i have one and hes da best
🙏 on my second- best breed
I got my puppy during the height of the pandemic. We had very limited training and almost no socialization. Recently he bite my son. What can I do to reset him at the 2 year mark?
I'm not an expert on training personally. You may find some better details on training over at Jason Corey's channel. www.youtube.com/@jasoncorey
I think at that point you remove him. When a cane corso gets to biting anyone you either fix the training through professional intervention or you re-home him. But hey if you're happy with the idea of your kid getting mangled then all power to you.
They need their ears to relax and control the noise around them
My corso is 5- i have never ever brushed her!!
I want one but I don't want the ears to be cropped. Is that something the buyer does or do the breeders already have it done?
When we bought ours, the tail only was docked. The ears weren't cropped. We decided not to have hers cropped, and she is absolutely adorable yet has that, "don't mess with me" look. It's hard here in the South to find a veterinarian that'll crop the ears as now they think it is animal cruelty, cosmetic.
I personally haven't worked with a breeder for this breed, but I would think that not not crop them that early.
Thank you for sharing your firsthand experience.
@@TailWaggingTales I personally think you can't go wrong with this breed as long as your intentions are good; they pick up a good vibe 🥰 hope your family member will be as full of praise of the dog as we clearly are...👍
Some times I think that this person is too full of praise and hasn't learned how to use the tone of their voice for praise and correction when needed.
I have a male Cane Corso. It is not stubborn, it drools and eats a lot. It is not a low maintenance dog
Wish I could afford one.
Keep an eye out at the shelters. You never know when one may become available to rescue.
I need one bad
Me too.
Eric's wife: LOL> Fur tank. YUP! We were caretakers to a roommmate's Weimaraner and I had never had a big dog 70 pounds of muscle unfixed is a wrestling match every time he needed to be bathed because to HIM the hose was PLAYTIME!
I want one in the worst way but my gf got 2 cats and a border collie ...how r they with other pets
They can be ok with other pets but and this is a big but they must be socialized to them from a young age. This is from my research.
ROTTWEILER my entire life,Cane Corso, frickin humongeous
Why have alot of them "croped" tails?
In contemporary times, the practice is primarily upheld for aesthetic reasons. However, in the breed's early days, when it was initially introduced to safeguard livestock, the ears were expertly cropped, and the tail docked strategically to minimize the likelihood of a predator gaining a foothold during confrontations.
I want guard dog why should I socialise them outside my family ? I have two corsos never took them to the dog park I want security I don't want friendly dogs.
Best Breed...
Find a quality breeder that can answer all your questions.
I 2nd that statement.
This is one of a number of dogs I would not get. Would be too much work for me. I am more of a lab type.
Forgot slobber lol
Truly. Slobber Machines!
Also standing next to you with his face 1 inch away from your food with drool reaching to the floor.
Rottweiler is the best all around family guard dog ever❤
Definitely a fantastic dog as well.
That's important to me as they can have joint issues, my boy I'm guessing around 110
Hopefully will not break down as he gets older. That's my two cents.
Any dog behaves based on its environment. Who’s responsible for the environment? The owner.
Can u do a boerboel video
I will add that one to my list.
Nothing about how quickly they are house broken?
That's a tricky one to nail down. I've had great success with breaking dogs, but I have a family member right now that claims to be doing all the right things but their dog just refuses to play along.
I crate trained my boy, had a few accidents more from food changes which gave him diarrhea, not his fault. Over all he did really well.
Too late. Getting one.
haha, did you get one? I'd love to hear your experience.
They all say the same thing until someone get hurt by one.
I have two cane corsos, very friendly to others. I mean too friendly.
Too friendly really? One of those that would lick you to death before defending the home?
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi I want this breed puppy
Be sure to educate yourself thoroughly before picking one up. They are a big responsibility.
You said cane corso are hard to train which is total lies they are a very very easy dog to train 👍💪😎
I've heard that they can be a bit difficult, probably just depends on the dog in particular.
Ours was a couch potato❤
That's a very common sub-species of the Cane Corso. :)
1:09 that's what I want
so dogs will always have arthritis if they live long enough
You forgot to mention that they were Roman war dogs.
Are they born with floppy ears?
Yes, they are born with floppy ears and they are adorable.
Yes and precious!
I'm so glad I left my boy with his tail and ears! Their Ears are SO Emotive!
@@VisciousPhishesregardless any person who cuts parts of another animal for nothing but visual appeal is an animal abuser.
Should you get one? NO !!!! i got two 😂😂😂
Mongrel dogs in most the world, only usa and italy recognizes cane corsos amd thats recently. Farm utility dogs really, man made in the 80s to look like an extinct dog of war , nowadays used for guarding and companionship but worth notjing in most the world, in the uk there mongrels but classes as bulldogs also because i think they are just neopolitan mastiff x bulldog
Interesting history, I had not heard that before.
Fyi: The name is pronounced "Kayn Corso'. I've heard the name pronounced many different ways. pronounced many different ways
With all my research, I found that it is not pronounced Kayn. th-cam.com/users/shorts62TUxKmk_9I?si=L2GVlmNCrWwkKgEg
@@TailWaggingTalesok from this link you posted it's fine both ways.As he says some people want to get fancy about it. When people say Kayne it makes me think of Kim Kardashions ex😂😂😂
this dog needs so mich time hey do you say you dont need time for brushing ?
but this dog is decision for life ! not easy not a dog for worker or young boys girls
this dog is a life change
every dog human or cat that give you attention can make this dog a other dog
you are the only one and this is ist
no person that i now can make this dog happy or right
no. 1 they are as stubborn as a mule. just like my wife
they do resemble their owners
HAHAHA, I'm laughing way too hard at this one.
are ya crazy? a apartment?
....maybe, the jury is still out on that one.
Also don’t use a harness and that retractable leash that guy was using in this video. Absolutely useless in an emergency
I'm hearing that more and more. I need to do some research and create a video with some pros and cons on each.
Yes. I found out the hard way when my Corso drug me down the front of the yard after a bird. 😂
Emergency? Like if he saw a squirrel? 😂. Nah but seriously a corso will drag you around regardless of your harness. Playing tug of war is hard enough.
@@thinkingofaname6233 I have a Corso and your right lol but at least with a slip lead you can cut off air supply and they usually stop.
@@MrBonecollector83 idk man, they usually choke themselves for a while before giving up. And a corso will ragdoll anyone if they're not 6 foot 200+ pounds.
It’s pronounced Cane as in candy cane not cané
#fur tank
One of my favorite names for them.
Forgot to mention one con, picking up huge piles of poop!
hahaha, my bad. I guess I forgot that one!
Cane corso's need alot more exercise than what this guy is saying.
It's been awhile since I created this video and I agree with you. I've since learned that they do need a lot of exercise.
@@TailWaggingTales great video, thanks for the reply
running 30 miles per week (5 days) is it ok for dog?
Is that Megan Markle???
She stops by from time to time just to hang out. Just kidding, unfortunately it is not.
Whats a Conney Corso? Do you mean "Cane Corso".
It's pronounced "Conay Corso". It's italian.
