VCHA/A2K Isn’t THAT Bad…

  • Hello!!
I’m making this quick lol unscripted video to comment on the new JYPE Group, VCha!!
I don’t think the doomposting is very fair, all things considered. There’s a reason American fans have been drawn to Kpop, and VCha still fits in with what a lot of stans enjoy. I think if they continue doing the songs we’ve seen predebut they may draw a more eastern audience along with a younger american one, but if their sound changes once they debut, much like Niziu and Twice’s did after their survival shows, I think they could draw a more mainstream American audience.
I’d honestly love to see groups rise in popularity in America again, and the popularity of Kpop in America might be able to make that happen. Especially since other companies like HYBE are making more Western groups, I think the trend might go in that direction in America soon. Especially since we aren’t seeing many breakout solo stars (at least not to the level of Britney Spears or Madonna like in years past.)
But I can’t predict the future, and a lot of the is will depend on their marketing!
    Ciao for now!

It's the trend to hate on JYPE groups especially GG's... TWICE in late 2010's , SKZ early 2020's , NMIXX on debut , Itzy for the past year and now Vcha. The receipts are all out there.

      1. They're American (Camila is French-Canadian but close enough)
      2. They're rep'd by JYPE, and since NMIXX's debut last year it's been open season on all the company's groups, especially the girl-groups, _especially_ from YG stans (Blinks plus whatever Babymonster fans are called)

American music is either depressing, all about love, all about heart break or all about sex, I needed this refreshing breath of fresh air so badly, just empowerment and tons of fun! People have tried these kinds of things in the past but they just didn’t have the budget or training necessary to REALLY succeed. I’m excited to see how far they will go with a Kpop system

I like them myself personally. It would be fun to watch these girls grow. Besides which, our famous pop stars are now all in the 30s age. Would be good to see new blood. I don’t think Americans dislike groups as much as companies don’t want to touch them. Why pay several people and have to risk disbandment when one wants to leave or has controversy.

I’m hoping that they target the tween market with this group. There’s been a lack of teen/tween directed content in many years and it could give young kids someone to look up to outside of Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Ice Spice etc. We haven’t had a wave of groups or teen idols since the 2010s.

I was sceptical at first how this would even turn out, especially with Kendall and KG, but they fit the group so well I love the lineup. Knowing JYP groups from before, they tend to have something of a "slow burn". At least with Twice, they hit it big in Korea with Cheer Up; then a few years later they blew up in Japan with Candy Pop, but it's really only recently that they've been hitting the American Market, and selling out tours.
I don't think we can expect VCHA to hit "homeruns" right out of the gate, but if JYPE and Republic are putting money into this group, I also think they'll be around for a while, and they can grow and evolve during that time. I really hope that they find a "sound" that is comfortable for them.
I'm imagining "early ITZY" as a good route for them to go down: inspirational, youthful, and full of attitude; songs similar to Dalla Dalla, Icy and Wannabe.
It would also suit Kaylee well since she's a 2009-liner.
I was honestly skeptical if Kaylee would make the group, and I'm generally against idols debuting in their early teens (16 at the earliest is my general opinion).
But watching the show, seeing her growth, her skill in both singing and dancing, her intelligence, and her maturity, I eventually became more "okay" with her debuting sooner rather than later. And like you said, she is a great asset to the team being fluent in Korean.
I hope she's protected from the worst parts of being an idol for as long as possible, and I hope she's treated as an exception in the industry, rather than a "green light" to debut even more idols at 13. 😖
Over all, I'm optimistic with this group: the members have real talent, and from A2K it seems like they get along really well, so they have a really strong starting foundation. I'll be following their career with great interest. VCHA fighting!
Edit: I previously said Kaylee was born in 2010, that was incorrect, she's born in 2009. Thanks to everyone who pointed it out.

Really? I thought she was 12 during the LA Bootcamp, which took place in November 2022? And then by the time of the Korean Bootcamp in May(ish) of 2023 she had turned 13.
JYP even made a point to bring it up when they met in Korea: "you've turned 13 now right?"

These girls are very likable and I believe A2k helped in that aspect. Those who loves them felt a sense of connection with each members on a more personal level by watching them week by week to their final line up. They are very relatable because like what you said, each girls are like the girl next door. Their success however is going to depend on the marketing and choices in music the company puts out and I hope they don’t mess that up. I see potential though.

Despite the popularity they got from being in a big3 company, I don't think that will do much in a global sense, as most people in the West don't support minors debuting in such a toxic industry. Also, their concept isn't mind-blowing and seems to be catered to K-pop fans instead of a Western audience. I really don't think they'll break through to the Western market, as this seems to feel like another K-pop group that just happens to have foreign members. I wish them the best, but JYPE doesn't seem to know what they are doing and I feel like they should've focused on the groups they have now instead of constantly debuting new ones.

If they dont want to fail they need to, get people in Korea to like them, for example making Korean songs etc, because they can't just go to America and come back to Korea and expect everyone to just like them

I really thought Kaylee would end up like Chaeryeong or Lily and be given time to train and grow up.
Maybe the LA bootcamp should have been longer so Yuna could make it, or they needed to audition in more cities. Debuting a minor just to have an Asian is kind of ick.
P.S. I actually like the first 3 songs, toxic fans please relax.

Yeah if they wanted to find a Korean American it's not like they'd be struggling to find one when a big 3 company has the money and resources to have a long period of audition and scouting and they've had auditions in so many big cities too... even if JYP groups don't have as much fans as YG, hybe, and SM it's not a reflection of how many people are willing to audition for jyp
Putting in someone who was practically 12 (at 13 still looking soo young and small) is giving me an ick too. How long do they expect to be doing pg13 content?

All the things people criticize about this project has nothing to do with these girls. Should they have had a training period? Prob yes. Should they have given kaylee another 2 yrs? Prob yes. Was Kendall uwarrantedly favorited? Uh yeah. Is their music campy as hell? Very yes. Is their name a confusing choice? Very very yes. But ALL the girls have great talent and potential and seem like genuinely sweet and hard working kids. People need to let them do their art and enjoy it or move on. But blaming them for the decisions of JYP and co. is kinda silly. They’re kids!

This group isn’t really diverse. Asian and white girls are well represented, but the other girls are multiracial/Latin and very racially ambiguous and VERY light complexion. Seems like they used Korean and American beauty standards to do the bare minimum with diversity

    • @AndjaDanja
      @AndjaDanja ปีที่แล้ว +34

It isn't their responsibility to be diverse, they are picking everyone based on their talents and not nationality and skin colour. If you can't understand that you are racist

    • @chipchipcheerio
      @chipchipcheerio ปีที่แล้ว

@@AndjaDanja A) I didn’t say I expect nor demand diversity from anyone. I know that the K-pop community has a lot of colorist and racist idiot stans , like yourself, who are so obviously against true diversity because you like to gatekeep - so calm down.
& B - Z) obviously they were casting for LOOKS before talent since all the girls are as close to the Korean and racist American beauty standards, as I’ve pointed out, and are very low skilled - by American performing arts standards. I’m sure there were way more talented girls they skipped over because they weren’t white or Asian or just “too dark” in complexion and wouldn’t market well to racist/colorist fans, like you - those who don’t care about diversity and get mad when people point it out.
