35mm is my favorite because it's the only way for affordable cameras (ie Sony a6000) to achieve a full-frame 50mm focal length as praised in this video. I think the majority of Peter's 5 million followers do not use a full frame camera so it'd be great if he could mention about this. Awesome video tho! 👍🏼

it seems like many well known youtube photographers really prefer the 35mm for it's versatility in environmental shots. But I personally find the 50mm to have a timeless real to life feeling. Could you one day do a 50mm lens environmental photo shoot tutorial? things you look for in composing with a 50mm? that would be fantastic!

Never looked back. 80% of my shots - Landscape, Vacation, Portaits are done by that lens. Don't care about ultrawide 12mm (Have it but rarely use it). 35mm on Crop Sensor 50mm on Full Frame. Best decision ever!
Pete: Something you didn't mention... 50mm is often described as the best focal length/FOV that feels most similar to the human eye. This is for full frame sensors. For a 3/4 sensor, 35mm is recommended for a natural human eye look.
Thank you for mentioning sensor size. All the qualities and characteristics he mentioned are relative to the sensor size. In his case a full frame sensor, but the beginners he referenced may be less able to deduce that from the video.

For travel photography 28 mm (14 mm in MFT, 18 mm in APSC) is most versatile. Wide enough to fit scenes yet not distorting people. All smartphone cameras have 28 mm equivalent lens. 50 mm is very narrow. 28-35 mm range is best for general photography.
I believe 35 to be the most versatile focal length. I really enjoy my 28 but sometimes it requires you to get too close for comfort, or you have to really get creative in composition

50mm is such a good focal length. For years I've shot with every range of Sigma primes, and often when on a shoot I'll rotate through the 35, 50, and 85. When I pull it all into lightroom I always find myself keeping mostly shots captured at 50mm.
At 6:05 the Nifty Fifty is subtitled with 85. You know what. It makes me feel good. Even if you are at this stage of your career you still make mistakes and it makes you more human. Makes me feel better about my own products and about the little bits I realize after I finished a project 😊😊
I've pretty much JUST been carrying my sony 50mm f/1.2 G Master since buying it in April. Absolutely insane for photos. Absolutely no hunting on it for video either 😍
The 50mm 1.2 I feel is the all around best portrait lens if you want to both capture blurred out backdrops of the subject and have the option of including plenty of scenery around the subject in other photos. The 85 1.2 I feel is the best portrait lens if you want only the person in focus with the background blurred out. The 85, being at 60% longer focal length, at f1.2, has a magical look all of it's own. Less diverse than the 50, so yes, couldn't agree more when you mention particular lenses creating very particular looks to photographs. Great video!

(basically RF 35mm f1.8 but lets in more light and is built for a pro (which includes weather-sealing, faster and quieter focusing motors, even sharper glass, etc.)).
Why not f1.2? Well, f1.4 would be cheaper, smaller, lighter and doesn't sacrifice that much compared with f1.2.
And none of the f1.2 lenses have image stabilization built-in unfortunately. This is especially important for video!
Putting hat on fire was the baddest thing I've ever seen ! 🔥
maaaannnn your videos are so well made i still havent gotten over it and i’ve known about the channel for 2 years now! keep up the great work helped me learn a loooott
I like that Film Grain. It's like seasoning to a photo
That’s the most Canadian hat I’ve ever seen and I love it. I hope as soon as he was done filming Peter hopped on his moose and rode down to get a bottle of maple syrup… and coffee, cause Peter.
Your cinematography and compositions are so inspiring and they're the reason I keep checking out the channel. The hat look is fresh too hahahah

Got the 1.8 saved me thousands of dollars. I can get the 1.2 bokeh by either stepping back further or having my subject step closer to me. Easy.

Great video Pete, I used this lens with the R6 for my Sons birthday and took some banger photos, I also used it for a few things while I had it in rental, the great part was slapping that 77mm PM VND edition 2 on the front at high noon 🕛 and keeping that aperture wide open.
I just finally bought this lens and I couldn’t be more excited to use it!
That hat is gorgeous, damn! Absolutely amazing!!!
Coup De Tete are the bomb!! Super expensive though, but such premium hats!
Great video Pete. Rocking that hat! I hate 50mm, never wide enough, never tight enough. 35mm is my jam for everyday lens :O
Oh lord, Pete’s goin full Johnny Depp with his hat game
Why is this so good. Great video yet again.
Agreed. A fast 50 is king for versatility!
I started photography and videography with an EF 50mm II f1.8. I just so love it. I just wish I could afford a RF 50 f1.2 lens for my Canon RP to help me develop my craft.
Your videos along with your philosophical inputs just inspire me as a "creator". 🙏
Wow watching after a long tym the whole vibe is changed and I love it!😍
Really awesome shots! That lens can do almost anything....
That said, that's the biggest hat I've ever seen
Nice vid! Classic Peter. May you never run out of idea's and inspiration!!
The way your head shakes during that voice over 😂

„Nifty fifty“ user here, a EF 1.4 USM and RF 50mm 1.8 STM
Yes, the performance of the 1.2 is awesome… but for which price? Huge, heavy, not even mentioned the MSRP yet
I love how small and convenient the 1.4 EF and the 1.8 RF are

Opening this vid Peter and seeing that hat, knowing you're Canadian and knowing that when I was a kid watching TV Shows, the only Canadian TV show in Australia we had was Due South.
I've just pictured you wearing one of those full on red suits.
Yo, Pete, when will u release new LUTs. Those colours drive me nuts!
Awesome hat! Reminds me of the hat my old Scout Master used to wear on hikes.
It was the only lens you needed for most photography back in the days of film and we’ve come full circle. My 1.2 50mm is my goto lens as well.
Great hat by the way and great video story as always!
Hell back in the film days you couldn't afford one either. They were so overpriced compared to an f1.4 it was outlandish. In fact you could have bought a slightly used VW Bug for the price of a Canon 1.2L glass in the 70's
Peter releasing a video is like Christmas
