I started doing this also and have been following the “jab, jab, jab, right hook” ethos of Gary Vaynerchuk and providing photos and social media work with some local business simply because I asked and showed them the value I could provide to their business. Now I have 4-6 business with my foot in the door and 3-4 separate shoots/gigs I’ve been asked to do. This strategy works! Thanks to you and Chris for the encouragement!

I really love the way you guys talk about connecting with people and building a network. I've more often heard about networking being a rigid, corporate chore, but that doesn't convey how fun and exciting it can really be!
I made $2100 with my camera last month. Shot some interviews, a music video and some web content. Still in the beginning stages. Starting to get the confidence to charge more, but I'm building this business in my off time from my other business.

@@sn0wt1ger Pretty good actually! It took me a while to get some consistency but I officially started a photography side hustle in May. I did in fact make $3K in a month and was able to quit one of my jobs to focus more on photography. I'm taking a bit of a break from shooting right now to catch up on editing, get organized, and create a solid business plan. I was surprised how easy it is to get clients once I had a decent portfolio in place, and totally over booked myself this summer. I still have a boat load to learn, but it feels so good to be working towards my own goals. I'm looking forward to crushing it in 2023. 💪

I shot a video in a local restaurant. They had a "pimp your burger" option. So I built a 8 pattie burger with everything on it. Ended up producing all their visual content. They grew into a chain. Kept working with them grew social to over 200k followers. Was pulling in that level of cash freelance.

I started my business October 2018, and from Spring 2019 - Fall 2019, I made about 15,000 in my first year. I still don't feel like I'm the best photographer, and I did some free shoots for portfolio work but I want this to be my sole income by the beginning of 2021. I want to break into branding and marketing photography, can you guys speak to that side of the industry? Or do some videos on that photography niche? I recently have had a lot of anxiety about where I'm going with life/career and got back on youtube after not watching videos for awhile and rewatching a bunch of your videos has helped ground me back to why I started this journey.
You can try talking to web & graphic designers and ask them to show you their workflow. This way you'll know which photos they prefer and which don't. It's actually easy: all you need is negative space for text (headings etc). Also when photographing, try picturing portrait/landscape crop for desktop/mobile use. Good luck!

Hey Peter and Chris! I watched this video a while back ago before I got into photography to see how I could potentially grow once I did start. I started off doing pictures of my own car and random things and doing pictures for some family. But i used the show and tell method to get future jobs! I am soon doing a shoot of a person and their significant other, and then I also got asked to shoot a wedding for a different person! This was just me showing some of the pictures I’ve taken this far to these people, and bc of this it’s allowed me to start growing my own skills as a photographer but also start growing my self brand even more! I need to work on my Instagram game though but that’ll come in due time! I love the videos you put out and you’ve helped me understand a lot of things and youve also shown me a lot of ways to improve myself and my photography skills! Keep making great content!!!

Something I'm always curious about is starting out, the business and legal/tax side of things. I guess that's just something you have to jump into when the time is right.
So yeah my opinion about it is: if you can delegate what you don't know or don't like to manage to someone you can trust, it's worth the cost because it makes everything so much easier for you

How do you find the potential clients in this niche?
oskaras aš Yeah! So I use Zillow which is the app they almost everyone posts their houses they are trying to sell on. And I limit the search to for sale by owners in my area. And then you can find the houses with very low quality pictures. Once you find those than just text/call the seller👍🏼
Mike Birks I use the Zillow app and limit the search to for sale by owner because they a lot of times have really bad photos. And then just get in touch with them offering your services
