Definitely not dethroned, but I do think the DLC prices, and cadence of Stellaris DLC releases is a bit much for most people. Some of them releasing being so bad, and for their price seems more like a scam.
DLC isn’t the problem. The problem is the dated engine and every conceivable content and story telling mechanics has been explored. The late game is virtually unplayable due to soul crushing lag.
Ha! don't get me wrong SoSE2 is amazing but the scope of these two games is completely different. Other than they both take place in space I'm getting a bit of a different itch scratched with each of them. It's deep compared to standard RTS games with some pretty ingenious mechanics but I'd call it 4x like or training wheels for stellaris. I've got no doubt it will be more popular in the long run mostly because it's a hell of a lot easier to pick up and play.
Agreed. In shot SosE2 focuses on combat, while in Stellaris combat is view only... Stellaris on other hand has much much more 4x complexity... Both great, but different games
I could never get into Stellaris. Too much going on. I love Sins for being so much more accessible! Plus the battles are sooooo much better. Can’t wait for the mods! Especially Star Wara and Descent: Freespace mods!
Why must they compete? Stellaris is a more traditional 4x while SOSE2 is a combat-focused RTS game. Play one for building a space empire and play the other to blow up ships.
I played and loved the first game. I can't wait to get a hold of the sequel. The visual look great and a lot of the tedium is automated. I also love Stellaris however the micromanagement gets to be quite deleterious the longer you play a game.
Nearly every system in the game, from the strategic down to the tactical, has been completely redesigned from the bottom up. It looks similar on the surface but it plays so much better than Sins Rebellion.
Thoughts after watching this video: I still fail to see what is the difference between first and second parts of SotSE beside of modern gfx and some minor tweaks to user interface... :(
Every game system has been completely redesigned, from the combat mechanics (ship positioning now matters, it didn't in Sins Rebellion) through to the top level strategic game. It's not at all similar once you get past the surface level.
Comparing the two games is like comparing Total War with Crusader Kings. Stellaris destroys SOASE 2 in depth but SOASE 2 destroys Stellaris in terms of accessibility, intuitiveness of UI and balls out action. Both games are great though I won't be surprised if Stellaris players dislike SOASE 2 and vice versa. I love SOASE 2 and I've tried Stellaris but it's too deep for me to invest time with as someone holding a 12-hour job 😅
Pretty underwhelmed with Sins 2 tbh. I was a huge fan of Sins 1. Sins 2 feels like the same game with a few very minor differences. I definitely expected more after such a long time between the games.
Looks good! Stellaris is just masters of Orion copy with added Paradox %-wanking that makes all Paradox games dull and boring and you just try find gitches. I have to test this
As a stellaris long time time player, I was quite interested by the title of the video and decided to give the game a try and... _No_ ... After like 4 hours of gameplay, it's like I have dig most of what the game have to offer and now it's rinse and repeat, refined my gameplay and that's it. Stellaris takes you hundred of hours before you reach that point, and even then, game have much replayability to offer.
Stellaris is only meta gameplay only and no creative ideas. Will not play until planetary invasion overhaul. Aka never most likely. Just like CK3 naval combat, maybe never.
This game isn’t Stellaris and never will be. There’s zero story telling here. This game is entirely centered on combat and conquest over prebaked factions.
Sins of a Solar Empire II is hideously boring in single-player, whereas Stellaris is not, so I wouldn't say so. Different genres, anyway. Just because they're both about space doesn't mean a contest is demanded between the two.
and then I saw your game timer is 1 hour 20min and it doesn't look like you have engaged in a big fight. that is way more than a typical dota/lol game. I mean sure you can increase the game speed but at the same time I fear that a campaign can easily eat 2-3 hours which is way more than most adults have in their time or has way too much anime backlog. ultimately this is just starcraft broodwar but way bigger of a map. uninstalled after trying it for just 15 mins.

Not to mention terrible AI and combat that always--always--boils down to deathstacking.
I agree. I like stelaris... but all the dlc is like over 100 dollars lol
STELLARIS IS HELL EXPENSIVE. I HATE IT. NOT ONLY ARE THE SHIPS LOOK HIDEOUS AND OUTDATED. THE MACHANICS ARE SO JUMBLED UP
AND NOT TO FORGET THE SUPER LAG DURING LATE GAME. IM USING THE HIGH END RTX 3000 SERIES WITH HIGH END RYZEN AND STILL LAGSSSS
Those ships and battles are beautiful. I can finally carry out my fantasy of being Captain Picard if he was a genocidal maniac 😎
exactly right! engage that stuff
Eventually, there will be a star trek mod for the game. They had it for the first game called star trek armada 3.
Instead of an SRTS, you could call it a 4x-RTS or real time 4X strategy; as the 4x genre is pretty well established

Stellaris is a slower game, SoSE2 is also wonderful to play.
Paradox ui is total crap
I agree, I think they are quite different and both fun in their own way.

Sins of Solar "Empire 2"... we know what you did here Andy, can we say "Total War: Empire 2" confirmed?
modders already have mods getting ready to start development
im hyped man
I can't wait for Star Wars and Star Trek mods. It will be GLORIOUS...
@@Smenkhaare and they will be more stable as the engine can handle it better
@@acolytes-of-cthulhu For sure...can't wait. 🖖👏🏾
Everything Stellaris does in the big over arching 4X situation and story sins makes up for in the combat and tactical tricks.
oh hell yea glad to see you on this
god this game looks good
Definitely an enjoyable experience

SoSE2 is a truly amazing game. Love to Stellaris as well!❤
I just want Stellaris with SoSE battles and orbiting planets :D
Or SoASE with some of Stellaris depth (especially diplomacy and empire management). Not too much though! 😅
this is great review you explained so much
thank you so much :)
@@AndysTake Really positive and great review Andy. You hit on all of the pertinent points.
@@Smenkhaare thank you, glad you think so!

other than been in space, it's just a different kind of game at the core
when will you come with a new video
What exactly is new? It really feels like the first game, just better graphics and a few extra ships

They’re coming out with a story mode
seams just a copy and paste of the first game with improved graphics and engine.

Comparing an RTS of anykind to a MOBA is ridiculous. I'm sure you are just fishing for engagement since i dont think anyone is actually that stupid.
