One thing I've learned about this game... when I start to get *legitimately* angry, it's time to put down the controller and try again another day and/or do something else in this game. When I'm angry, I'm not in my right mind. If I'm not in my right mind, I won't do anything right.
No boss has the same heights of a skill ceiling like Malenia does. She curves from frustrating to immensely satisfying the more you piece her wide attack set together. I've been hoping for something similar on the dlc menu, but I'm almost done and while entertained Malenia remains in a class of her own.
It's still a SUPER tight window to do that, though. Especially if you have to stop for a second to cycle to the pot, and then throw it. Doable, but still not a brainless baby mode cheese. Might be the go-to for the level 1 Malenia fight, though.
@@logancooper3625 you dont really have to cycle to the pot if you have your flasks in the y+d-pad slots or whatever the equivalent is on a ps controller, then you can just have your throwable of choice ready all of the time. this even has the added benefit of not having your heals be input read.
@@Helba00 the thing with Malenia is, she's the only boss that when you kill them, you have to wait a few seconds for her dialogue to play out before it gives you the great rune, i think because the rune wasnt added to her inventory, it doesnt count.
@@exemplar7205Godrick and Renala have something similar where you have to wait for a while after they die to get their great runes because of their death dialogue
There's not much that's as satisfying as watching a former newbie ascend and "git gud" through practice and determination. She did really well. Props to her.

same thing happened to me with that commander guy in the swamp. doesnt count until the enemy defeated text hit before the you died text hit. rot is terrible. also my hard drive deleted my save too thankfully my cloud save was only about 20-30 hrs behind my hard drive save but im still trying to scrap that progress back.
One thing i would recommend to you both as well is a Teo video, its named something like this took me 237 deaths, when he finally kills her, his determination to go tell his wife at the time was amazing lol it reminded me because of Nick having to go to the shop whilst Tayrn is attempting (and manages) to beat her.
There are 3 bosses with moves that can heal you. All of Malenia’s, one of the Regal Ancestor Spirit’s moves (Giant deer in Siofra), and Mohg’s NIELL NIELL NIELL
Nice one, that last Boiled Crab she ate was almost a mistake, she just needed to heal twice and rush in for a guaranteed jump attack while Malenia was recovering from the Scarlet Aeonia... But she let her get up and I could feel the despair to land that last hit~ lol
Mad respect to the people who suffer through bosses like that without using spirit ashes. It only took me 3 attempts to beat Malenia with my mimic tear, but without it I'm sure I would have been there for days!
Just don't completely troll your defensive aspects and you'll only be there for a couple hours tops. Not wearing the heaviest armor and defensive talismans is like a self-handicap.
fun fact, if you unlock from malenia when she uses waterfowl dance she will break and not know where to go, all enemies in elden ring are like this if you arent locked on to them they will struggle to hit you

What makes malenia so hard is her waterfowl attack plus every time she hits you she gets some of her health back so it can go from one step forward to two steps back in a second definitely the hardest boss in the base game but the feeling you get when you finally beat her is amazing honestly beating her is an achievement in itself so to all of us who have beaten her well done and to those who have yet to stay determined you got this.

Me and my girlfriend have been playing elden ring together, I had to make a new character but she helped me get all the way to end game and DLC, and we've been helping each other in DLC, it's been fantastic

nah, i hope whatever they do after elden ring has its endgame bosses at the level of that dlc final boss, took me 3 days to get him but it was exhilirating. i have been waiting for bosses like him in elden ring, bosses that feel down to the wire when you fight them, base game was far too easy, dlc was a good wake-up call
@@whatlmao it's not that they are hard, they are straight up unfair, overtuned and bs, like the og game before. The bosses are not tuned to the player, which is a major design flaw. It's like putting a dmc enemy into resident evil.

Malenia is pretty much the only boss where I consider a Light Load to be a requirement. I couple light rolls away can clear the first flurry of Waterfowl if you're at point blank, then you run away from the second, and finally walk into our dodge roll into the third. It's the most foolproof method I've found to avoid the attack. Also, my condolences for defeating a boss only to die before the victory message shows. Believe me, I've been there.
it's really not, you can just run and jump first flurry. running is better than spamming light roll since they nerfed the distance months after buffing it. You can also block first flurry with enough stamina or barricade shield
I lost my elden ring save recently so i restarted the game, played as a mage, i used summons and mimic tear too because i was just trying to beat every boss and get every single item fast. When i got to Malenia, she decided to use waterfowl's dance 6 times basically in a row, sometimes she would do one or two moves in between the bs attack, but she just spammed it, i dodged it 3 times my mimic tanked 2 times, the last one got me

Rellana and the final boss were the only two that gave me trouble with my greatshield build, but with my beast claw build, Gaius was the worst.

One of the best tips for malenia for her waterfowl dance is to just throw any pot at her, stops her dead in her tracks.
Especially freeze pots, the frost proc has another layer of stagger to it.
@Wadusher frost roc also has the same property as bleed procs in that they do a percentage damage
If the pot has a guy named Let Me Solo Her attached to it, it just stops her dead.

funny thing is you can just cheese him by making him follow you through rot geysers cause hes dumb and slow enough to get hurt by them

I used mimic with blasphemous blade, only took two tries and I was happy my strategy and build worked.

That kill not counting is definitely dodgy. I've killed bosses whilst dying before and they've still registered as defeated for me.
