  • I've been experimenting with refilling Nespresso capsules. It got me wondering, do the DIY Nespresso Vertuo pods actually work as well as the original pods? In today's #shorts I'm doing a side-by-side comparison to see if refilled Nespresso pods work.

    Haven’t had much luck on refilling pods as it taste different. It always taste more watery for me.

    I had no issue with the amount of foam, I would always get plenty. however, many times my Nespresso would blink and take multiple attempts to brew. it's a bit tricky to get the foil off on the edges afterwards as well but hands down way more cost effective than the original pods. once you get the hang of it they're fun to make :)

    Put more coffee in it!

    The problem may be in freshness and grind size.

      I think you're correct about the freshness affecting it!

    If you are about saving money just don’t even use the machine … get instant coffee 😂

    12 pods came with my Nespresso maker 3 years ago. I didn't realize I need to reuse them until I only had six left. So I've used those six for the last 3 years and now they're so worn out that today I've made my coffee on the cleaning cycle

      Hahah! Yes I've noticed after a while the pods do get worn down. I usually just order a new batch of pods when that happens and then continue using them for a while after that! I'm glad this method has worked for you!

    not sure why you have so little foam, my refilled pods have TONS of foam (using fine ground, not regular coffee) and the taste is strong if you use really dark roast and add 12g of coffee to a 7.7 oz pod, not very sure about espresso pods though, I just guess with them around 12g.. but mine I'm drinking now has a ton of foam

    We bought the foil tops and after time the stickiness of the adhesive caused things to malfunction. For a while the cup like holder that you set the pod in would come all the way out and stop ejecting all pods. Beware.

    • @HomebodyEats
      @HomebodyEats  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a great point! I do always take the pod out immediately after brewing to avoid any of the adhesive sticking to the machine.🙂

    Bad coffee quality espresso coffee. Try Lavazza or Illy. Best Italian espresso grind

    Crema is actually the most bitter and worst tasting part of the espresso shot.

    Buy an espresso machine. If you must do this, use freshly ground coffee roasted 2 weeks ago, and add a little more in there. But really, still a waste of plastic. And money

    • @rice_scopes
      @rice_scopes ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I disagree, I have worked with various high-end coffee machines over the years, and if you get the measurements right you are in for a high quality espresso. When I refill my pods they come out looking better than the actual Nespresso coffee itself.

    • @OviHentea
      @OviHentea ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rice_scopes I agree with you, I'm sure the refilled pods can be as good as the Nespresso coffee itself. My comment relates to NOT USING PLASTIC at all, so bypassing the Nespresso proprietary system altogether and instead getting a dedicated coffee machine that takes coffee grain.

    • @rice_scopes
      @rice_scopes ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@OviHentea I agree with you, but there is a pretty large sum of people who have bought the machine already and don’t want to continue spending money on the pods themselves. Also, the Nespresso pods are made of recycled aluminum not plastic

    • @OviHentea
      @OviHentea ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rice_scopes Thank you for clarifying, I assumed wrong about the materials used. That being said, aluminium pods being theoretically recyclable doesn't make it sustainable. The recycling rate according to Corpatux is 31% as of 2021, which means we're putting aluminium in trashfills during an aluminium shortage.
      Agreed that if you already have the machine, stick with it and switch to filling your own. If you don't have the machine, don't buy it just to do this, in a misaligned effort to be sustainable.

    Next time Get the bigger pods to do refills (mug size 7.77oz). The espresso pod is an absolute joke, the amount of liquid it gives me is insulting. It pissed me off so much when I first saw it…
