Started off with an original machine and then went for a vertuo. I got rid of the vertuo and went back to the original line, I didn’t like the weird foam that comes with a lot of the vertuo pods
That’s the only thing I’m not crazy about when using my new Vertuo, I end up scooping the Crema out because it’s even thicker when you make a 7.7 ounce coffee. It’s the right amount of crèma when you make the espresso or double espresso, but I end up scooping a lot of it out when I make the coffee
Mmm… Original: real espresso, high pressure, real crema, higher temperature, 3rd party pods, Vertuo: strong drip coffee, aerated foam which increases with cup size, lower temperature, expensive bar code pods, makes larger cups by packing more grounds to a bigger pod. I finally “upgraded” to an Essensa Mini after making the mistake of getting the Vertuo. When I want just a rich strong larger cup of drip coffee, there are much cheaper way to do so and without getting a thick layer of aerated foam.
The aeration process and longer brew time at a lower temperature produce a more balanced extraction that tastes much smoother. They definitely choose better beans for the Vertuo pods too. The pods are expensive no doubt, but better IMO. If you just want a small espresso, then obviously Original is better. Both options blow away keurig and drip coffee.
While I’m sure it’s still better But based on feedback, it seems like ppl either get OL or may just get Keurig Since they are all not real espresso. May as well get cheaper and have lots of 3rd party options lol
I have both, recently added the vertuo POP. I am selling off my OL machine as I like a larger drink, at least a double espresso and more. On the OL, I end up using 2 capsules for each drink. In fact I like my coffee so strong that I use a 150ml pod n stop the brewing before it reaches the full 150ml capacity. As for cost, I reckon 2 OL capsules cost more than a single vertuo. At least in my country.
I just bought the Vertuo pop plus deluxe also and took my original line Essenza mini down to my office. I descaled my Essenza before taking it down to the office and now my coffee is not tasting very good and the espresso shots quite a bit shorter on the Essenza!🤷♀️
@craftcoffeespot is it true that the original machine makes a better crema in comparison to the vertuo? After a couple of minutes, the vertuo crema looks deflated and like gunk compared to the original, any truth ?
That’s accurate on crema. But does it matter for taste?? Vertuo has better coffee, stronger ratio, and longer contact time that makes for a better taste. I admit - I don’t like the Vertuo crema, but if you swirl the drink a few times, it’s gone. Crema is just CO2 and a by-product of extracting fresh coffee - crema doesn’t actually taste good.
I have always hated Keurig. I tried them all and just couldn’t do it. Always did drip coffee, however at a hotel I recently tried the nespresso mini machine in the room and fell in love. When I run out of drip coffee, I think I’m switching.
Yes, because the patent expired for the original line capsules, therefore opening up third parties to be able to sell them. Hopefully in the near future that will happen with the Vertuo pods.
@@craftcoffeespot thanks! I drink all kinds of coffee throughout the day and have the various makers on my coffee bar, so I think the original will be fine. I appreciate your feedback.
Thank you! I have the original along with reusable metal pods. It was quite an investment. Every morning I enjoy my double espresso with half and half with a little date syrup. Texture is a large part of that. Since then I've acquired a husband who prefers the french press. I'm considering going with the vertuo (black friday) to get something we both like.
@@craftcoffeespot thank you for all your information and advice. I did some shopping last night and kept thinking about how I've found pods I like for 25 cents each. I’m not a long coffee drinker but I got a Vertuo to sit with my original and I plan to get rid of my original eventually. I think expert mode makes the Vertuo a better option.
Great, helpful video! Have you noticed a difference in how the Vertuo machines brew the different varieties of pods, e.g. is an Intenso pod brewed different from Melozio or is the difference just in the coffee inside? Thanks!
It is different. First, Vertuo uses more coffee. Second, Vertuo brews longer. However, Original is generally a little hotter. So, you get a richer drink from Vertuo, and Original is more bitter, imo. I suspect the coffee grounds are exactly the same in each when the name is the same.
@@craftcoffeespot Thanks, but I was wondering about the brewing specs for the different FLAVORS of Vertuo pods not Vertuo vs original. When I put my own coffee in reused pods can I change how the coffee is brewed, like water temp or brewing time, by reusing an Intenso pod vs a Melozio or other flavor, for example. Thanks again for the reply and great videos.
@@josephwsam Got it. You can only change the volume of coffee for the pod - I forget the exact setting, but I believe if you hold the button it'll be a manual pour and then the machine remembers that amount for the pod bar code.
Original definitely gets hotter, probably 200 vs 170 for Vertuo Plus and 150-160 for the Vertuo Next. I don’t notice much when doing the Vertuo Plus because it brews longer, but you’ll notice a cooler, weaker drink for Vertuo Next and Pop.
I went with the vertuo as my brother is a coffee lover so he can have some decent coffee when he comes & I'm trying some of the decaff so excited to get using it
Original will work better for you. The biggest draw of the Vertuo is the larger drink options. Vertuo has great espresso pods, but they’re more expensive. I’d check out the Aeroccino frother for lattes (see our other video)
I hated the vertuo. The water is too hot and the pods are expensive and none of them compared to the original. Also not being able to use anything but nestle stuff is a rip off. I bought another make, which i prefer, and I'm not supporting a company that has rotten ethics.

The pod availability especially by cheaper third party brands make the original a clear win for me
LOL. The sheer simplicity of the original is far more simple than the barcode and multiple sizes or the Vertuo.
The Vertuo is as simple from the user perspective.
The bar code is a cynical move.

You can make a double shot size on both. Vertuo is more for full cup sizes and richer taste.
Is the vuerto coffee hot enough?
Temperature is an issue for Vertuo, but the pods have more coffee and brew for longer which makes up for the temperature. Plus more drink sizes.
