Check out our new video on the history of Paladins esports and the (questionable) decisions from Hi-Rez that have shaped it into what it is today: th-cam.com/video/jvYDUdx6kE/w-d-xo.html
The fact that the system was approved by multiple people internally and was worked on by a huge team that let it go live speaks volumes about how greedy HiRez is as a company. They're so money hungry that they're willing to potentially destroy their own game to profit off of a few whales.
@@adcrengar9877 In the PTS it was fun to mess around with, as there was some really wacky balance, but the progression was clearly very, very, very slow. I don't think anyone wanted it to go live as people had already calculated the cost of maxing out, but it went live anyway.
Hey, I'm a big Hero Shooter fan, but i haven't gotten into Paladins. How's the in-game climate right now? Like, how hospitable is it for casual newcomers?
@@ale-xc9bg yeah, they wanted to remove the essence system and replaced it with another one, that apparently caused the game to be P2W until they also removed it and instead gave all base cards for free with a refund for everyone
Fun fact, the low quality drawing of the characters made to mock the lootbox system, can be used as tags in the game, if you get them in spray lootboxs....
@@casuallyYT Yup I have em all since I bought them right away once they first came out. Also I despise the game's ungodly amount of lootboxes with different prices and even putting in cosmetics that weren't originally in them (yeah, apparently the boxes are confusing af).
@@casuallyYT They really are funny. Personal favorite would be Barik in Lian's dress. It really also is a bummer they like a number of other cosmetics have now become chest drops
Hey everyone, we know that we ended the video on a somber note, but we just wanted to clarify that this event occurred in 2017 and that Paladins has since recovered. If you're looking for a new hero shooter to try out, we encourage you to give Paladins a try and see if it's for you.
8:30 proof that fat executives 1% to 10% doesn't care about you Imagine earning 1 to 2 dollars and hour in a third world while your higher management, COOs CEO earn the big bucks 50 to 100 an hour. True story.
Also, you forgot to mention even a basic script on Paladins works lol. Epic society cheaters at the highest level. Even top 20 ranking admitted it, other vip cheat users know. As an engineer, lmfao basic macro script is abused for years. Rip that game.
Just a note to anyone who hasnt played, this topic is like 2 years old, maybe more, with that being said hirez always made questionable moves, this being one of them and it basically thanos snapped half its player base and it never recovered, there is like a small dedicated fan base which hirez try not to screw over without lube atleast With that being said, hirez is a company with great ideas, incredibly shit execution Paladins had 2 collective purges to revert cards unbound (this video topic) Realm royale made so many random changes that werent even made for the game (basically youre allowed to group with 4 people, hirez changed it to a group of 6 per squad, now here is the funny part, you could only have a party upto 4 and if you queued you were forced with 2 other random players to fill the gap) Tribes ascend was apparently a huge game with great potential but they shut it down With all this being said, hirez is a very sketchy company when it comes to games Heck i dont even think rouge company will ever go big especially with hirez They fumbled realm royale when they were peaking at 130k
@@adcrengar9877 it couldve been a great promotional move, but there isnt much advertising about it Alsofrom what i heard They have a collab with 100thieves and have a skin pack for $20 but it doesnt include stickers or something in it (their bought separately)
I’ve been playing paladins for almost 3 years now and I can’t help but imagine how much better the state of the game would be if this atrocity never happened, the game still is fun and the devs are trying their best to make it better but sadly bc of all the damage that was done it’s being really hard for them but at least I feel like the game is slowly recovering
@Makoa The Ancient yeah, but since the community wants both new game modes and payload back, it would be healthy for the game. it doesnt matter if it was popular or not in the past, that was 3 years ago bro, it could work now. anyway, beloved or not, paladins really needs a new game mode
The game has done nothing but go downhill and the devs haven't helped at all with it. From pandering to a very small percentage of the player base, *furries*, to releasing lazy champion, after lazy champion. Please tell me what's original about Corvus? You cant, literally, every ability is just some other champions' ability just barely different.
Man as an Overwatch and general FPS player, I'd lose my mind getting killed by someone that just had either deeper pockets, more time than me or better luck at getting level 5 cards than my level 1 cards. I remember I was interested in this game but saw how the community had problems and didn't play it. Glad I avoided the shitstorm. What developer thought that introducing a system where anything outside player skill would be fun to die to? If I die and and I see it's because someone is cracked out on mechanics, I give it to them for the practice they put in, or outplayed me with an unconventional strategy.
I don't know, it's weird. In this video there's even a few seconds of footage of the Raum update, so I don't get why there's so much old footage when they have more recent one at hand.
For anyone who might be tired of overwatch atm play paladins, it's actually really fun. I love and play both, so I can tell you that they're only so similar in the concept, but the gameplay is unique enough so that it remains fresh.
I love this game!! Viable supports, huge pool of unique champions and no role lock - the card system gives each champion loads of variability and personalisation so you can really make them work for you 🙌🏼 (don't let this video put you off - there's no pay to win at all anymore)
The only thing i wish they could add is a support who doesn't heal, but either buffs their team or gives additional shields as health. I really love Paladins, but it gets kinda boring when every new support relies basically only on healing, and they rarely have other tools to help their team.
@@mattphyx TORVALD!!! He's under the tank category instead of support, but he is that! (Just a warning: he's not very good in ranked rn, but he should be kind of what you're looking for) also, one of Jenos's talents causes anyone with his astral mark to have increased weapon damage.
@@logandaugherty9381 yeah i know that, but Torv rn is easily wrecked by almost every flank and dmg, is a tank, but cannot tank anything, and half of his kit is essentially silencing him for 3-4 seconds.
@Makoa The Ancient actually, hero shooters can have different types of supports, but you either have to pair them with a healing supp, or make their buffs/shields strong enough, so your team will survive if used in right time, on right person. Also, don't forget that half of the champions in Paladins have a lot of self-healing or lifesteal in their cards, not to mention that we also have Kill To Heal and Life Steal as obtainable items during the match. So even if in f.e. Overwatch it would be hard to implement non-healing support, Paladins are pretty well prepared for them, HiRez just needs to start adding those no-heal supps.
Torvald has worked his way back into three meta actually. The top pro teams love using him to pocket flanks hard and make them unstoppable forces, especially when combined with either Jenos or Corvus
This has most likely done even more harm then good to our little community, old topic and healed wounds. While not in a perfect place Paladins still can be something with the right attention, unfortunately we are saddled with HiRez.
I first played during this time and can confirm being a new player was a joke. Came back and it is pretty fun now, still too much toxicity and throwing, but fun when you get a good match.
I can confirm that. Been around for 5 years since it's Beta and there were so many that changes throughout the years that modern day Paladins is different from how I knew it and there's a constant cycle of it getting very frustrating to pretty fun at times.
It still fun, but the decisions are fucking stupid. They took out Kill cam, Play of the game and 3rd person View for so called improved fixing bugs when the same bugs are still present. They also Haven't released any actual new maps since 2019, no new game modes (free 4 all & adventure mode should exist cmon) and lastly the champions they're releasing are just recycled from others only with a twist. For example Vatu is about shadows so he could've been using his shadows as some sort of weapon which would've been unique, but nope we got a Koga fused with Talus & Maeve with Androxus design.
7:52 "Could paladins have hold on a little bit longer"? WTF, dudes, you're bringing back a two-year-old controversy and talking about a still active game as if it had died. Queue times are rarely above 30~60 seconds and they just released a new character today, not even two weeks after this video was posted.
Just so we're all clear, PALADINS IS STILL VERY MUCH ALIVE AND YOU SHOULD TOTALLY PLAY IT ESPECIALLY BECAUSE IT'S FREE AND VERY GOOD. THERE IS NO MORE P2W AND THE CARD LOADOUT SYSTEM IS VERY GOOD.
The game has changed so much since open beta that it's barely like overwatch at all anymore. It's more like if League of Legends and CS:GO had an angsty teenager that recently came out of the closet.
It would be nice to see you cover this game as one of your small esports/competitive games videos. Hearing about the monetization is cool I guess, but I know this had a scene that grew and shrank pretty rapidly and I'd like to see you cover that.
Honestly I’m happy that OB64 happened b/c the new card system is so good. Also, it was smite executives that had to come over and actually listened to Devs before it was abolished
"Battlefront 2 loot boxes" OI OI OI, they no longer have those. The lootboxes arent even that anymore, just a means to collect your rewards as in you finish a mission to get a weapon, the crate is where you receive that weapon. Shame Battlefront 2 had its plug pulled
i was kinda irked when they name dropped bfii twice without any footnote saying this was done away with like a month or two after launch it had a very good run though i truly hope they consider a bfiii
@@wilsonlane9929 Because EA released a celebration package which gets rid of the ability to buy crystals (and credits too), while straight up unlocking EVERY content in the game save for those locked behind challenges. If that doesn't scream desperation in squeezing every single pennies out from its player base, then I would legally be a vegetable. While it is a good gesture, and don't get me wrong I really liked this package... but them doing this basically just shot BF2's only means of having continued support. Its really hard to justify continued development when you aren't making a penny from said development. Only way they could kept BF2 going at that point was to reintroduce crystals (which could potentially get EA in trouble for false advertisement, and I doubt they'd want yet ANOTHER bad press in this game), or to break their promise and sell DLC. Its understandable why they'd cut support at that point. If EA wanted to keep development up, it'd make more sense to make BF3 than to keep working on stuff in BF2 where there was no more means of a profit. Tl;Dr, hope they'd make a BF3, and that they have the same design business model of BF2 before its inevitable demise.
Ironically, the update also sorta saved paladins too. After they got ride of Cards Unbound, they just made every card free to get unlike how it was previously where you had to use essence to purchase a card (or get it from a chest)
be glad this game changed from that route of horrors it used to be back in 2017, when ob64 was removed it definitely became great again, and even then to this day I still enjoy it despite the flaws.
This Video makes it Seam like Paladins is dead but it isn't it has a mostly very nice Community and is now one of the best Multiplayer Games Out there.
@@mosorireayewale2820 because they are not competitive games when it is so p2w and/or progress-faster heavy. Games like CR and paladins back then could only be competitive when both players have same level cards (and king tower level in Clash Royale).
This system was a fixed and less p2w version of old lol runes Basically they took the lol runes and made It works only for casual play, while in ranked you got everything unlocked
I remember playing this game quite often when it came out on Switch, and this whole controversy I believe was well before the Switch version was available so I never experienced this, but with the common glitches this game still gets and with Overwatch now available on Switch, it's been hard to go back and recommend this game. I for one stopped playing when they removed 3rd person option.
"Could Paladins have held on"? Is it not still going? I don't know as I moved away from it myself. Personally I think is one of the best hero shooters on the market but I moved away due to unbowned and came back only to move away again once I would spend upwards in 20 minutes or more searching for matches in rank just to have someone not select their hero and have to do it again. I loved the card system they had where everything was unlocked to everyone. I guess that was after unbowned. I was never a fan of having to play to gain in-game currency to unlock cards when people had been playing longer and already had them. Unbowned made that unbearable so I was happy with what they did after. Another huge gripe was only one møde being played in competitive. Why? That's boring when I know you have other modes. Frustrating. But I love their heroes, and their categorization of different roles meant people don't just funnel into a line and get gunned down like in overwatch. People actually use tactics in Paladins and strategy. I would love to play it more but I love ranked play and I don't love que times. Honestly que times were bad in casual, too. But that's just ps4. I can't speak for the rest. I'm not happy with how hi-rez does a lot of things. How are you going to make a Smite adjacent tactics game and then not support it whatsoever? Or say you're going to make a paladins moba and instead make a generic one? Blegh.
Lmao ow has like billion times more tactics. Thats why ow League was a big deal. It was fun watching all these strategies, while in paladins taht cant be done
@@morgle3948 bro OW is going down hill with how bad they are messing with the game like where's overwatch 2? I get the great C happened but wasn't't it near end of development when we saw it? And what's with all the nerfing of characters? Like a character gets nerfed once then they get nerfed 12 more times before blizzard stops and gives them a barely functional buff.
idk why Akshon decided to use this topic for talking about paladins, which further ruins is reputation, but it's honestly not a bad game. Everything talked about in this video is really old and what it is right now is monumentally different. i stopped playing myself when this update came out but i lately got back into it and its definitely worth a go, i just wish people would bring the good side to light instead of the trash highlighted in this video
Yeah man, why always shit on paladins. I know things are unpolished as overwatch but paladins made me tilt only 1 in 20 matches while overwatch 17 in 20 matches (mostly due to the "press q to win" shit). The tilt theory favors paladins.
Wolfman its genuinely i fun game as well, and im also gonna argue its more well-balanced because of the itemization, need to destroy shields? wrecker. being stunned a lot? resilience. need to reduce their healing? cauterize. not to mention the several loadout combinations and many more champs offering much more variation for customization. also the hp pools are much bigger, which means the gameplay is longer and dragged out, unlike a certain game i know, and here's the kicker, there's new content every other month. something overwatch is deprived of
The PTS version of this update was so much fun tho, a giga sandbox where everything is beyond broken, bomb king with 225% bonus range, lex right click doing 90% of the ennemy's total health, damba and cassie dealing 1500 across the map less than every second, and a bunch of other things I can't remember I wish Paladins was big enough so it would have a way to play older versions for fun
Wasn’t around when cards unbound and OB64 were around, but I know that now the game is much better. No P2W mechanics whatsoever, and the game feels pretty good to play. Bad matchmaking (likely as a result of a small player base) and the occasional bug do mar the experience a little, but the game is still in a pretty good state. Played Overwatch a few years back and I could never get into it. I always found the characters too boring. Paladins with the card and talent system can really change how each character feels and make each game feel fresh. No disrespect to overwatch players, I can see the appeal and you can play whatever you want, but don’t take this video and assume that that’s what Paladins is like today, because it’s probably a lot better than many have led you to believe.
Matchmaking is generally ok at least for ranked. In casual it can be quite scuffed. But Matchmaking seeming bad is often amplified by one or 2 bad picks. Like imagine if a platinum player plays Jenos against a team of diamonds it will probs be fine. But if a plat player plays evie against a team of diamonds your probs not gonna do well.
@@burni988 im sorry have you ever met bk. The reason maeve feels fine is because she isnt the worst to play with while having server/lag issues. Pretty much every blaster feels worse than maeve/projectile characters on lag. And bk is the worst of both worlds.
@@Lumpz4k evie feels fine to me and so does willo. No one complains about drog. Admittedly i don't play much bk but is that the only champion example? The majority of the characters feel fine so it just feels like exaggerating. At least EU is fine
I actually left OW for it. The card/talent system is really good, it allows for a lot of variety. And as a support main, I have to say that supports in Paladins are way more fun than they are in OW. My only problem with Paladins is that the community kind of sucks. But I guess that's a problem with pretty much any online game (and even more with F2P ones).
@@rodrigolealmartir5902 paladins is so GARBAGE. And boring and so casual compared to the real skill of overwatch. There’s a reason overwatch won game of the year only after being released for about 2 months. Paladins is decent....with friends.
@@VincentVincent_89 To each their own I guess. I play Paladins alone all the time. I even left it for a few months and came back because I missed it. When I left OW, I never looked back. Now I only play it if my friends do, which hasn't happened in around a year or so. They all moved on to different games.
The positive of ob64 was that some of the mock pictures got added as sprays to the game. Wallnara, Gurk, and sexy barik are the best sprays in the game, and you can't change my mind.
Honestly I haven't played much since they got rid of log in bonuses and the option to switch between 1st or 3rd person POV it made the game unique and interesting really wish they would bring it back! 🤦♂️
It’s absurd that game designers never learn from past games’ errors. I worked with designers who seemed to have played a bunch of triple As only. And this is the result.
Damage has been done but we're long past since the patch that shall never be named, right now Paladins is the most balanced as it is (except every new champions that get released). Also its topping 10k players everyday in steam.
@Makoa The Ancient when tiberius first came out he was bugged for 2 whole months when he was with that habilitie he shoots faster he was imune which. Wasnt supposed to happen he is now fixes
I still remember it. Paladins was the most fun game i've ever played in my entire life watching turn from fun game to stupid product to feed greedy managers upsets me
i met so many pepole in the eary days of the game. they all left bcs those stupid patches the game had. im in that small group of ppl who remmber the golden age of palaidns...most pepole dont even know how many things got nerf or removed from the game
Honestly like this channel's content especially the melee one but this video is pushing away potential new players to a pretty good game that has had it's fair share of the lion's mockery. I play a lot of fps games like Dirty Bomb, Titanfall 2, TF2, and Overwatch, and Paladins, while personally not my favorite, is still a competent game in the oversaturated fps genre. Currently Paladins is probably the most balanced its ever been and, with speculation and leaks of payload returning, it's fully ripe of potential. The thing is Hi-Rez has little influence in this game anymore, only acting as the game's publisher as the original development team had split off to create its own studio (Evil Mojo) and they're constantly providing good content and listening to community feedback.
@@franz2989 Not really? Frontlines are still good and double tank comps are as viable as triple dps or double support. It's just that some of the dps champions are overtuned and their respective counters need to be buffed, instead of nerfing said dps characters to oblivion (except Vivian, she can die). Flanks are balanced right now. Nerfing them anymore would completely kill them. Maybe some nerfs to cards of specific flanks, but not nerfs to base kit really. There are still a lot of good tanks in the meta. All tanks except Makoa are competitively viable, and a lot of them still being banned in the comp scene like Atlas, Ash, Raum and Ruckus. Hell TORVALD has a 70% winrate in the pro scene because of how well he performs with the current "pocket the dps" meta. While Season 2 tanks were very fun, they were just dps champions with bloated balls of hp. Season 2 tanks, along with 90% caut, would kill so quick that the entire flank class was made obsolete except Maeve and Evie who had exceptional mobility and poke. I'd much rather this current meta with a couple balance changes than Season 2 with literally the same triple tank comp.
@@matthewjared8303 I'm goint to be honest with you, I just barely read but I think I understand what you mean. But I don't say that they should nerf to much the flank champs but you see, I'm talking about talus and skye, I just don't like using raum to create some distraction on the enemies backline and out nowhere die to talus rapid fire or skye's poison talent, I do understand that alone you are not going to survive but you get my point right? And I couldn't agree more about Vivian, she needs to be nerfed until she becomes unplayable of how bad she is
@@franz2989 you don't have a point about Skye. Competitive Games are balanced from the top down and skye is only ever picked in the ppc for pirate ship comps. She Can't flank cause her one survivability option (invis) is completely countered by a single cheap item).
Enter Erez Goren, one of the founders of Hi-Rez and most likely responsible for the Essence System, Cards Unbound and those stupid changes on Realm Royale which led to it's death. He single-handedly tarnished the company's name, so much so that the company forcefully kicked him out. You know this guy is so bad when a founder gets kicked out of his own company. All Hi-Rez games communities rejoiced when this guy was out of the picture.
SMITE was (and still is) hirez’s money maker and multiple times had controversies which could, to my understanding, be traced back to him and his bad leadership and management. Thank god he’s gone.
This video seems really weird to me... this was 3 years ago why talk about it now? It was literally in there for a month... also what’s with all the really old footage in the video?
The game were already destroyed by their own developer who decided to put it out from the beta which the game wasn't ready and still have tons and TONS of bug fixes to be fix.
@Ali Hadi Babar I wouldn't. While paladins is not as polished as overwatch, gameplay wise it is way more fun. I played overwatch and droped it but i still play paladins
@Ali Hadi Babar I don't really see anything wierd about liking 1 game over the other. To me it seems pretty wierd that you see me as a "fanboy" because of that
Ob 64 did a big damage on the game, but i think what does more damage is bugs, lags and that devs absolutely ignore comunity and their sugestions on how to fix it
So basically, the cards were turned into a gacha game system. (the more copies you have of a character, the stronger their ultimate attack would be) Damn.
Having the main menu music playing in the background at the beginning of the video was almost like PTSD from when I open the game while I do something else and the music starts playing as if saying "I'm here... come play..."
OB 64 was a mess, but the problem with this video is that it implies that Paladins is dead by using a lot of old footage, the way the video concludes, etc. The video doesn't mention that the card crafting system was completely removed and all cards became available again as a balanced loadout system, for example, it displays the actual system for some seconds but ignores it.
Haven't played it for some times now. Didn't want to grind for the battle pass when I got other games to grind for. For me, making grinding enjoyable is a important thing.
then dont grind for the battlepass bro, you dont have to buy it. the actual battlepass will end in 11 days, so its impossible to complete it. its perfect for you so you can play now whitout caring for the BP
Paladins is a pretty sad case because the game is genuinely fun but has been sabotaged by horrible management and corporate greed. I play it occasionally because the game play is fun but it could've been so much more than it is. Having a functioning game would've been a good start, I'm looking at you endless loading vendors screen.
Tip. Try to delete your friend list. Often a huge list screws up the loading since the game will check if anyone from your list is online no matter which console they're in. I recommend get it below 20.
Paladins is better than never now IMO (of course there's still some bugs and some balancement issues mainly between newier and older champions Abiliites and Talents, but they're investing some much content in the game now with rework on maps, new champions and in the future they're going to bring back older game modes with unused maps since from the beta).
Honestly, having a deck filled with 10 point cards was fun. Their mistake was not making it into its own game mode that set your cards to that (they had the capability seeing as ranked set your cards to 3) instead of being tied to chest drops.
I think paladins is a great games but recently it seems like they just want to make money they come out with so many skins for the same characters and don’t really fix the game it’s self there are lots of bugs and in game balancing needed
Paladins is a fun little game. Remember the times when I dominated other players on support heroes like Furia. The only thing that bothered me to the level of cringe was Overwatch animation rip-offs. Other than that the game had potential.
bro, the game has 46 champs with regular updates and a queue less than a minute. paladins best state its right now. if youre an old fan they will add payload mode again, so reconsider giving paaldins another chance in a near future. also free so why not
Don't appreciate how this video implies Paladins is completely dead now. It might not have the same amount of players or as constant updates as it used to, but it's far from dead. Either way, a decent video going over Cards Unbound, though I have to question the choice for releasing a video on this topic now of all times, when Cards Unbound was removed almost 3 years ago.
he releases videos about previous events all the time, sort of like mini-documentaries. He also never implied paladins is dead he said that it took a massive hit, that might have been the difference between it and it's competition.
@@boluporter1529 The thumbnail has a tombstone and points to Paladins having died, while later in the video, he says "...it was too little too late." and also "Could Paladins have held on a little bit longer if its free-to-play rollout hadn't come with so much controversy?" implying the game died soon after Cards Unbound was removed.
@@past874 bro. they said "could paladins have hold on" like, really? you know its not dead right? you find a match in less than a minute. also WHY 3 YEARS OLD FOOTAGE
The game is at this end now. It ain't getting revived and most of the problems will get worse from now on. Such as Matchamaking and content. They already pushed out most of the resources to their new games . It takes 4 months to add new contents. Face it. Your favorite game is dead
I’m cool with y’all making videos about Hi-Rez making mistakes and all but like, can we get a video that ain’t based on info from 2+ years ago? Like, go find out who over at Hi-Rez/Titan Forge has an in with Nickelodeon to explain how we got ATLA and TMNT battle passes back to back. Or how NRG was the best Smite team ever for two years straight. Or how SK went from 7th in regular season to World Champs
The more this game updates the worse it gets, I used to play this game every day because I love it so much but over time it’s just got more buggy, unbalanced and toxic. I think it was evil mojo that made the game tumble downhill. I remember when you could mix and match different skins and most importantly when sha-lin’s bow was good. Even when you could buy levels for characters, it wasn’t really a good thing but at least it was something to spend the coins on but now we only have crystals that are really worth anything and you can only get those from battle passes or by paying. I still think that you should try this game even though I haven’t spoken too highly about it because it is fun especially if you’re a fan of tactical based games and first person shooters. There was something else I was going to say but I don’t remember what it was so thanks for reading this I guess.
I am a relatively young player (haven't witnessed any big Paladins events like this) This game makes me sad. I like the style, the champions, the lore (it's there, i swear!), but every time i hop back to it, it hits me with a new update that makes the game unplayable. So far, i only remember one single period of time when i used to play it daily, it was when the daily rewards were still a thing iirc. As a f2p player that i am, it was a rewarding way of getting crystals. It was disappointing when they took it away. And now, it's almost impossible to get them (or any other cool stuff) from the battle passes anymore. I remember a few battle passes ago you could get chests from the free version of it and that was one of the reasons i kept playing the game, i loved that chance of getting something fancy for my champions. With the current battle pass, they only give you THREE chests, obtainable only at the very end, battle pass lv 90+. And the only other rewards are XP boosters and occassionaly the pitiful 10 crystals, which unless you spend hours and hours grinding and leveling up your battle pass, won't even allow you to get a single chest since they're always worth +100 crystals. TL;DR Paladins barely has any rewards for f2p players anymore, i am angry and sad about it and i shouldn't be writing rants about videogames at 4:32am
The Paladins business model makes stuff like this inevitable. You can't fully cater to competitive players and the whales that actually fund your game at the same time. Naturally, the whales will tend to win since they're the actual customers and the competitive players are just part of the product.
For those wondering if paladins is still alive and playable. You find a game in less than a minute, with updates every 3 months, crosplay with all 4 platforms and with much less bugs than before (at least there are no more game destroying bugs nowdays). Also if you are an old player, they confirmed payload mode will be back. So yes, a think paladins best state is right now
you'd be surprised to see how now theres is zero pay2 win in this game now. its totally become skill based. i came to paladins after the removal of ob64 and stuck with it ever since. i suggest giving it a try cuz its really damn fun after all these years.
I love this video and it's really interesting but just as the removal of cards unbound was "little to late" your video was years late too. I know the main focus of the video was to show how a pay-to-win mechanic affects gameplay and it's unfairness but at the same time it feels like you're actively trying to push the game down and discourage new players too by saying if the game could still "survive" if it didn't implement the PTW mechanic. I don't agree with most of the decisions Hi-Rez makes (especially this one lol) because their intentions are clear to make money, but the game is still going strong with a new update + new champion (hero) in a week or two away and it's really fun. If there's one thing I want your channel to take away from this is to watch the tone of your videos. I know your intention wasn't to make paladins players and new players feel like this but as a player of both Paladins and Overwatch it does really feel that way.
When you try to get easy clicks by talking about a topic of more than 2 years ago, kinda sad how Paladins always gets dragged through the mud like this
the main reason was the final message. but god could you just end up saying that paladins is alive? you make it sound that its dead. also why they alwas use 3 YEARS OLD FOOTAGE
Paladins now is in better conditions they really put more efforts in the game they learn about their mistakes and they are making the game much better than before

Hey, thanks for the feedback. With this video we kind of wanted to do a gaming history type of piece to change things up a bit from solely focusing on the esports side of things. We've pinned a comment to help clear up any confusion people might have about this game being "dead" and hope that people who are interested go check it out.
Paladins could have been bigger than Overwatch, but Hi-Rez has this weird power to make games with an amazing base and then proceed to fuck over the game and the players until the game dies
I don't, I loved playing it, I loved the gameplay and was happy, I just got tired of just putting skins when I was on the side crashing and having bugs, yet I had a lot of fun, and if I only had one thing to say would be "Merci Bocoup"

The fact that the system was approved by multiple people internally and was worked on by a huge team that let it go live speaks volumes about how greedy HiRez is as a company. They're so money hungry that they're willing to potentially destroy their own game to profit off of a few whales.

With that being said, hirez is a company with great ideas, incredibly shit execution
Paladins had 2 collective purges to revert cards unbound (this video topic)
Realm royale made so many random changes that werent even made for the game (basically youre allowed to group with 4 people, hirez changed it to a group of 6 per squad, now here is the funny part, you could only have a party upto 4 and if you queued you were forced with 2 other random players to fill the gap)
Tribes ascend was apparently a huge game with great potential but they shut it down

I remember I was interested in this game but saw how the community had problems and didn't play it. Glad I avoided the shitstorm. What developer thought that introducing a system where anything outside player skill would be fun to die to? I love this game!! Viable supports, huge pool of unique champions and no role lock - the card system gives each champion loads of variability and personalisation so you can really make them work for you 🙌🏼
(don't let this video put you off - there's no pay to win at all anymore)

Balanced you say?

I love the channels content but this video ain't it esp essentially calling the game "dead" when it's still going strong lol
@@franz2989 Not really? Frontlines are still good and double tank comps are as viable as triple dps or double support.

2 traits Hi-Rez is best at: being quick to follow the latest trend, and always managing to screw it up
I started playing this game waaaay after this debacle happened. I never knew about this.
I played when It after a year when KO ga was new..I joined August 2018.
Nostalgia for vets but also its fair game to do videos on gaming history for those who weren't around then
@@adcrengar9877 no one wants nostalgia for cards unbound.
@@ramp8536 I feel bad for the beginners, drove them away as fast as Mark 51 in fortnite before they vaulted it-
Because none cares about the game
@@ghoulbuster1 this is objectively false
The game were already destroyed by their own developer who decided to put it out from the beta which the game wasn't ready and still have tons and TONS of bug fixes to be fix.
But the game is actually fun now. Developers are listening to community feedback and are doing their best to make the game better
HiRez has sadly shifted a ton of resources away to work on Rogue Company :(
@Ali Hadi Babar I wouldn't. While paladins is not as polished as overwatch, gameplay wise it is way more fun. I played overwatch and droped it but i still play paladins
@Ali Hadi Babar I don't really see anything wierd about liking 1 game over the other. To me it seems pretty wierd that you see me as a "fanboy" because of that
I have many reasons why I feel paladins is more fun than overwatch. But they're pretty much all preference
Still kinda buggy. Was fun though
Imagine not knowing how to patch bugs so you just completely remove the fundamental element and replace what you removed with an in app purchase
Ob 64 did a big damage on the game, but i think what does more damage is bugs, lags and that devs absolutely ignore comunity and their sugestions on how to fix it
So basically, the cards were turned into a gacha game system. (the more copies you have of a character, the stronger their ultimate attack would be)
Damn.
You can ignore completely the BP, you'll get some rewards anyway
Paladins is a pretty sad case because the game is genuinely fun but has been sabotaged by horrible management and corporate greed. I play it occasionally because the game play is fun but it could've been so much more than it is. Having a functioning game would've been a good start, I'm looking at you endless loading vendors screen.
Tip. Try to delete your friend list. Often a huge list screws up the loading since the game will check if anyone from your list is online no matter which console they're in. I recommend get it below 20.
@@mewletter as if I would add anybody who plays paladins
Paladins is better than never now IMO (of course there's still some bugs and some balancement issues mainly between newier and older champions Abiliites and Talents, but they're investing some much content in the game now with rework on maps, new champions and in the future they're going to bring back older game modes with unused maps since from the beta).
There was a reason I forgot about this game....
OB 64 was two years ago and was reverted.
@@saquial the damage has already been done
@@sushio4357 The damage has already been forgotten, now's just a meme. I guess you don't play, right? ("used to play" doesn't work)

This game was very fun to play.
I left and never came back after the unmentionable patch though.
SO to sum up this thing: They took hero shooter and clash royale and made an abomination.
Yeah and its a good thing they reverted the old system
@@frogboi8579 I'm the one arguing it's not dead though? Unless you responded to the wrong person?
This was literally the only reason I finally decided to buy Overwatch and give it a try
Nobody cares tho the only mildly interesting things are the cross overs they do with RWBY, Avatar etc
@@silvafangtv i mean, i guess you dont care. I just want some smite esports content from Askshon Esports
Please make a video on Smite since you're already talking abouy HiRez
I am a relatively young player (haven't witnessed any big Paladins events like this)
This game makes me sad.
TL;DR Paladins barely has any rewards for f2p players anymore, i am angry and sad about it and i shouldn't be writing rants about videogames at 4:32am
dude this was so long ago already, feels like you guys are just beating a dead horse here
The Paladins business model makes stuff like this inevitable.
So yes, a think paladins best state is right now
I didn't know they even went back. We stopped playing at the cards unbound stage and never went back
you'd be surprised to see how now theres is zero pay2 win in this game now. its totally become skill based. i came to paladins after the removal of ob64 and stuck with it ever since. i suggest giving it a try cuz its really damn fun after all these years.
You don't play this Game, what is the reason you made this video?
So he can reignite the old controversy and confuse other people I guess
Cause they can?
I remember playing Paladins over Overwatch until OB64 happened and I never came back to this game.
What's ob64?
@@kpay10 open beta 64

OB64 was reversed at least, but the servers are a bit laggy rn so now might not be the best time to return, new update should be good tho
Thank you so much for making a video on paladins, the game is really under the radar these days and has such huge potential that goes unseen

I regret the 500 hours i spent playing this game
