The game didnt release on consoles till a while after the streamers were playing it. So why would people watch a game they cannot play. By the time it came to console the hype was gone.
I always thought Hyperscape would have served better as an arcade style arena shooter. It’s fast paced action and weapon variety could have made for some great simple tdm gameplay.
Honestly when i played it the movement was fun but the fights felt super draged out i couldn't finish anyone of i would rather a br like apex if i wanted face pace movement.
Thats most battle royals. Only reason why Apex is still doing so well, the legends really add a lot of diversity to each match so the game is always different.
@D.K most of the big ones that's come out. Tried pubg, hated it. Played fortnite till season 4. Apex until season 2 though I've recently gotten back into it. Realm royale, modern warfare, cuisine royale, Darwin project, hunt showdown (if you want to consider that a br), elysium, the cycle. That's all I can remember off the top of my head but playing solo generally gives me a bit too much anxiety to play for long but hyperscape just gave me the tdm feeling like I can just jump in and have mindless nonstop action/fun
I agree that it came too late, it was cool when it first came out but there were so many other battle royales that were out at the time it just couldn’t compete this was a new kind of battle Royale though I don’t understand why it didn’t blow up more
yeah my main problem with the game was that it was a battle royal game. I think i would have a lot more fun if it was more of a team deathmatch style game where you get to respawn quickly and keep playing
Have you actually tried to go into the training mode and shoot the bots to see how fast they die? The TTK isn't slow at all, just accept the fact that you're missing your shots
@@SnappySanad it is much slower, it might not feel like that against still targets but when everyone is flying and moving so fast, slow TTK feels painful
the game's map looks exactly the same everywhere and there are no items, only abilities. it came out late but perhaps it was too early for succession as well
@@comedial6829 If a map is big but non of the areas have any distinct feature it's just a big boring city scape. It's the reason why most open world games are bad.
@@comedial6829 Big map = good map to you? You sound like the kind of person who would unironically design a game where the player runs through grass fields for 2 hours to get from point A to point B.
In addition to there being an already oversaturated market, they've made bad decisions in the case of weapon balancing by making easy to use weapons overly strong, and they've been slow on bug fixes that the game in its infancy needed to be fixed. Many early players like myself found ourselves having to restart the game over and over after we ran into various bugs hindering us from playing the game. As the population dwindled and Ubisoft made one bad decision after another, even its biggest supporters and diehard fanbase began to leave. Nowadays it's a good day if you get 20+ people in a lobby. It's a shame what this game really could've been.
im one of the players that got the crash on launch bug when hyperscape came out, and It just didnt get fixed fast enough to warrant staying in my library when other games were coming out that i wanted to play
No it wouldn't have. This Quake type mid air shooting combat is very niche. Maybe it wouldve survived a bit longer but in the end it would suffer from the same fate. The game is just too hard for casual players
In my opinion, Hyperscape missed a huge mark by not implementing wall-running in the first place. You're telling me that you have a fast-paced urban BR with a big emphasis on movement and verticality, and you're not gonna give your players any other movement options other than running on the ground and jumping? Yeah sure, alright, cya later I'm going back to Apex
apex comes from the titanfall series and in my opinion the movement in titanfall along with the gunplay is much better then apex also respawn in apex when every character has a jump kit removed wall running and double jumping when canonically all of the apex legends should be able to do it.
@@nadataprosper2692 eh, not to be a dick or anything but I'd like to see Gibraltar try to wallrun! Honestly though, yes I agree with you that overall, Titanfall 2 is a much more fun experience than Apex. However, Apex can feel much more rewarding at times and in my sense, isn't something you should just brush off as a Sub-Par Titanfall entry (as I've seen many people in the Titanfall community do). I just think Apex is the superior game in the current BR we have available (although I've yet to try Warzone)
@@waynicliz it's 69 gb on xbox one, uninstalling a single CoD should be enough and it's worth it, don't know on pc and ps, but regardless, it's a fun game
Just drop the BR genre and add arcade game modes like tdm, capture the flag and so on. There are not enough titles like that in the market apart from cod and stuff :(
I started playing right when the beta was released, and honestly it was practically love at first sight. I love fast paced games with tons of mobility, this game was basically perfect for me. A lot of people complained about the TTK (which was completely understandable, I could consistently get 10+ kills in all the BRs I've played before but I was struggling to get more than 1 kill on the first day), but for me it's honestly what kept the game fun. Sure it wasn't as rewarding to get tons of kills, but it really makes you feel like you are working hard for every kill. The learning curve is much much higher than any game I've ever played, so you really have to put time into this game before you feel that the TTK is fine and actually healthy for the game, but they don't really do anything to really encourage you to spend that time grinding and improve. The movement abilities and movement mechanics in the game itself felt fluid as well. But honestly, even though playing the game was so fun, the low lobby counts and just overall the game being hard to play for more than an hour or 2, is why I ended up playing less than less. And ever since patch 2.1, I've just stopped completely. The game doesn't feel as good as it did in the beta anymore, which is really unfortunate since I really felt that I found the game for me. I still have some hope so I'll definitely be keeping notifications on for this game, hopefully something changes that'll reignite my love for the game.
I disagree on the TTK. This is the only BR I have dropped 30 in on Kbd+m. The issue is they tried to patch too often and never rushed things that they never tested.
installed. played some matches. won a game. never played it again...its was so bad on ps4 cuz the terrible controller settings and no FOV slider, then the whole meta was using that annoying ball and the op ass minigun and the Time to kill (TTK) was so high that you could spends hours just to kill someone.
It had very "forced" feeling recoil. Unlike fortnite or apex. The guns kinda felt like cod but the recoil doesn't work too well with the hyper-mobility aspect of the game.
I actually tried apex after playing this because i had no friends to play this game with. And apex felt like i was with fucking crutches, so slow and tedious
@@vegantoad4889 it's the truth, sometimes i play apex with my friends. I sit around looting houses and then just camp so that i can get top placement. Its a really funny game
Demi-regret, opt-ing for Premium BP S1, when I lost my drive after Tier 34/100. Had a lot of fun, tried getting friends into it, yet no budge. Hope it resurges some day. I'll have plenty of premium currency to put into it. But, I gotta remember what I loved about it Streamlined weapons and Ammo, swift movement, the urban evironment, and the upgrade of weapon system. It made me break into FPS BRs.
Problems: poor marketing (I've only seen the game once through my feed), somewhat ok optimizations, No servers beyond US an NA at launch (I live in South America), Launched shortly after Valorant (high skill ceiling, so game fatigue takes way longer to happen) Gunplay felt stiff.
Yup this. You have to nail one or two things right or do one thing really good to be able to compete with the other BRs. Apex got fun movement and gunplay. Fortnite's building mechanic has insane skill ceiling. PUBG is a bit dated but it has a dedicated playerbase because it's one of the first BR's to blow up. You would think a futuristic shooter would be really cool but Hyperscape just feels bland in general.
Faster and faster pace is also a trait of arena FPS (AFPS), which is considered to be dead after BR games began to gain popularity. Now BR is converging into having AFPS traits. Both HS and Apex are rumored (datamine) to get deathmatch modes. It's also easier to create bots for HS (potentially onboard new players and reduce matchmaking time) than Apex due to lower demands for teamwork and gamesense compared to aim and movement in HS. HyperScape health regen change sounds like Apex's change to nerf all shields, it was hated and was reversed mid-season. After learning about it, SBMM is needed, and one problem in SBMM in Apex is that top-tier players (Master/Pred) are matched to average players because there can't be 60 top-tier players in the queue at same time due to their rarity. At least people are complaining about aim assist rather than anti-cheat.
As someone who doesn't play battle royale games, this game looks like I'd actually really enjoy it. Fluid movement is one of my favorite things in games, and all of it looks like a lot of fun. Might try it out if the player base starts to grow again
The player base is enough for you to play. This is the mentality that I hate. The player base is low because people don’t play the game because of other people are not playing the game. One of the dumbest reasons for not trying out a FREE game.
@@drphil4207 I am a titanfall 2 veteran and I m lvl 97 in apex. It is not that it is not for everybody, it is that there are seriously better things to play, and hyperscape is one of them. I hate what apex has become.
I still LOVE Hyper Scape I just wish it got the recognition it had at the beginning of its release because the devs genuinely care about the health of the game, unlike SOME game devs *AHEM* Apex *AHEM*. I seriously think Hyper Scape still has SOOOOO much potential and wish the devs tapped into that earlier so players didn't fall away so quickly. Such a shame. Still fun though, and that's all that matters at the end of the day.
The apex devs really care about the game, they're really active in the apex subreddit and talk with the people to try to fix problems, they biggest problem IMO is that they weren't ready to work from home, actually the game health get a hard punch in the start of pandemic, probably never thought in something like that, but fortnite actually did it pretty well.
Apex dev's probably care more about the community than most game devs. Their one of the few ones constantly active in discord/sub reddit. Granted their updates are insanely slow doesn't mean they don't listen and they can only do what daddy EA allows them to do and WHEN EA says so.
Dude the apex devs are far better than the hyperscape devs. They actually have Q and A’s almost every week and they recently apologized about all of the mistakes they’ve done in the past few months. They’re actually trying to make the game better. The hyperscape devs are good too, but some updates that they’ve put out are concerning.

I played it. Gameplay felt very plasticy, ttk was weird, and the art direction was quite generic and exhausting to look at. Not everything is to do with timing
hey, akshon could you do a video on population: one its an interesting take on the BR genre as it's in VR and only has 15 players + its paced and has climbing and flying, this makes it fun to enjoy because all you need to do to get the high ground is swim up and t pose to fly.
I played hyperscape and let me say something. If you add high mobility with really long kill times and evasive powerups, It becomes an extremely frustrating and endless parkour to kill anyone.
When I played it like a couple months ago on Xbox, it was just horribly balanced and not fun at all. Sure the gameplay was interesting but you rarely could do anything before three teams all with Ball descend on you
I actually loved Hyperscape whenever i played it. The only issue for me was getting my friends to play it. I was a top 5000 player on console and my friends stuck to there games which i inevitably fell back to.
I played hyperscape for about a month after the closed beta came out in summer and i have to say it was one of the best br experiences ive had in basically any br game. sad to see it go. Maybe they could bring it back because they've done things like this with games like r6 but idk my hopes arent high
As a person in the console community of the game we still get alot of people in our lobbys there's cross-platform with ps4/xbox but the pc lobbys are dead like 3 people squad dead but I don't know how much pc lobbys get in solos but in squads they average like 3/5 :(
I really loved hyperscape , but my biggest issue is br. They really should have tried a new modus, or stay with basic arena shooter modus. Keep up your great work
Honestly I really loved the game, and was spending more time there then Apex. Then they decided to get rid of Solos and they lost me. Sometimes I don't want to play with a teammate who quits when they're downed. I really do hope they can fix all the issues.
I played this game for so long. Grinded it and got good. The main problem with it was a huge skill gap and hackers. Along with this with a low player base caused the developers to put consoles players against pc players which significantly widened the skill gap further
this game was so fun on launch and they made changes on what mate hyperscape different. Long kill times. I fucking loved the fast paste and long kill times. Not getting sniped in 1 shot, not getting flanked and dying in 3 seconds. With more health you can change these situations with skill. Then they took it away and everyone left. it makes sense
Hyper scape did the battle royale genre perfectly, and fixed so many problems other battle royales couldn't solve. I wish it did better for how much of a good game it is.
Battle royal idea: everyone drops into a city full of NPCs and you have to survive in a city full of mafia crime and every other thing and you can join gangs, the police, etc. then you see what player would survive the longest but you can just go around a kill players because you can’t tell who is an NPC and who’s a player (Also if you just go afk you die of hunger or somthing)
@@HobbsterTheLobster23 the way I think of apax legends as titanfall without the things that made titanfall fun. Hyper scape has those things. Obviously it doesn’t have titans, but the movement is so fluid and fast paced. It reminds me of titanfall.
I found the reason why Ubisoft was behind it I want to add, I actually think the BR elements are well made, everything else like movement, shooting, sound and visuals however can be put right in the twash

For those that don’t know Hyper Scape is adding TDM tomorrow to combat the lower player pop. It has a long way to go but the devs are truly putting a lot in the game and if TDM does well they’ll probably add more team objective based games like CTF.
The problem is that people are just too bad and have huge egos. So they uninstall the game after learning that you can't spend 90% of the match looting and after realizing they cant aim for shit and they just get booped everygame.

Called it from a mile away. This game needed some serious weaponry work and maps for it to get traction. It released and it was basically get a lmg win.
The first few days this game released on console there were huge amount of log in errors, "Orchid" and other error names. I'm certain a large amount of people downloaded the game, couldn't get in, and simply forgot about it. No video ever mentions this.
its a fun looking game.. but.. 1) like the vid said genre fatigue (how i spelled it right), it is another same old Battle Royale with a twist here and there.. 2) lack of advertisement.. since u know, there are already lots of BR games as of rn.. and, i dont think ive seen anything about it in youtube, either gameplays of it or even ads on any vids 3) from what i've read in the comments, slow in fixing the bug issues, etc.. 4) nice control etc, but from what i see, some of the weapons were a bit OP.. 5) imo, fast paced BR games are ok, but i think, this one is just a bit too fast for the casual players / beginner.. im not a usual BR gamer, heck, i cant even shoot properly at times lol.. but this is my opinion based on seeing this vid..
I'll never understand the people that still play PubG. It feels like a student project, super janky, stiff, bland, ugly as shit, clunky. I get it was one of the original ones the made the genre blow up, but rust came before hand, along with others, so it's not the original. It just feels sooooooo....boooooorrrriinnnggg. It still feels like a beta and I have to imagine the only people that still play just have too much invested in it.
The December patch as of the time of writing has worked really well to increase lobby size. Playing after midnight would see lobby size drop drastically, but it seems like a major surge has happened thanks to the new update. Hopefully 2021 will be even better.
Hmmm I'm starting to see a pattern... Valorant uses Twitch for Advertisment, and then after launch its playerbase decreases. Hyperscape uses Twitch for Advertisment, and then after launch its playerbase decreases. Not gonna lie I'm starting to think Twitch is not a good way to advertise your game. At least for the Key drop thingy's.
Has nothing to do with Twitch. The problem stems from people in general. The numbers are high early on because everyone is watching their favorite streamer hype up the game and make it seem better than it is. Once the game is officially released everyone notices the flaws and not everything said was true so majority of the people leave. Valorant doesn't fit in this though because Valorant still has insane player numbers, just not viewership numbers because it's simply not a fun game to watch at all but it's extremely fun/satisfying to play and master.
As someone who has always loved super fast paced shooters with high mobility (Doom, Quake, Titanfall) this game has always looked super fun, but I never played it much solely because of crossplay not being a thing. I play on PC and all my friends play on different consoles.
Nice analysis, but I think it focuses too much on one thing that is in my opinion way overblown out of proportion. The official release of the game was on August 11, a month after its beta. While in July, it had some good numbers, the end of July saw an unlikely competitor that would become a phenomenon: Fall Guys. That game absolutely destroyed the charts in August when it was released - its concept was way different that traditional BRs and all streamers went on board for this funny and colorful beanfest. And the PlayStation Plus free offer gave Fall Guys a huge surge in players and popularity. Note that Fall Guys doesn't have cross-play yet. Meanwhile Hyper Scape was just "another BR game". I think its concept and gameplay was too close to Apex, and it was hard to get a huge market share when there's 4 BRs already in place (Fortnite, Warzone, Apex, PUBG). Hyper Scape never gave birth to a figure that would unite a community around the game and around him, most big streamers got their check, and never went back on the game again. Same thing for TH-camrs - as they saw the low numbers on the content they produced on Hyper Scape, they moved on to something more valuable. It's really hard to stop a downward spiral. Hyper Scape had numbers similar to big single-player games: a huge surge at launch, then streamers move on to other stuff when they're done with it. Meanwhile, games like Among Us, with near infinite replayability due to the social gameplay, have completely blown and are going to be here for quite a long time. Note that most games that work on Twitch are games that don't tell the whole story through one POV, give the sensation of high stakes, and bring laughs, tension and drama. Now doing Top 1s in BR is no longer enough - it has to involve more things. Also actually, the fast-paced nature of the game was detrimental to a large part of the early playerbase - when it's too hard to kill a target, many players simply drop out and never return, because the game is too difficult for them. Early feedback also talked about "fights going on forever" as the TTK was very high and you had to land a lot of shots on your target to kill it - add that the fast health regen and fast movement, and you leave most of the players with a steep skill curve that they won't be able to overcome. As a result, they go back on what they liked, eg. other BR games. We can't deny that Hyper Scape came too late, with a dull package, and to be honest I don't think they'll be able to turn things around like they did with Rainbow Six or For Honor in a smaller extent. Implementing TDM in that game is also facing a truth - the game fails to keep a big enough playerbase to make BR interesting. Some server regions are empty during low hours. However some people that could seek a free, fast-paced FPS with a simple TDM mode can be satisfied. But they'll have to bring new and attractive stuff to the table to keep a healthy playerbase, otherwise the game won't even go to Year 2. However I rediscovered this game after getting weary of other games and I really enjoyed it so far. Balancing decisions are of course always questionable but I'm part of a wave of players that seek something refreshing and that didn't play the game in its early days.
The solution is way easier: people tried it because it has lot of arena shooter mechanics, and every old school UT/Quake knows that’s there an unfilled void in the genre that can really bring big numbers, but publishers as usual want to follow the trends thinking it means easy money and big playerbase. In conclusion: Hyperscape as an elaborated, community supported and twitch powered arena shooter would’ve been top notch.
I stopped playing this season, when they removed the Solo-Mode. As a player that enjoys fair 1v1 battles and generally doesn't want to play with randoms (neither friends), that change pushed me over the edge. Some weapons also were very unbalanced. The game restricts you, to play with two weapons in your inventory at maximum. So you had to decide which of the three weapon-ranges (short, medium, long) you wanted to leave out. If you developed a certain play-style with certain weapons that way, you had much fun.. until some weapons got so unbalanced that they were usable for multiple ranges at once, for example shotguns for short and medium range. This killed the fun of the game for me personally as players just played shotgun + sniper and had ranges covered. It was so frustrating to play against players, with such play-styles, as my own play-style just got destroyed more and more.. no player wants to throw away his own fun way of enjoying a game, just to have a chance of wining or having fun.
Games that require skill are destined to die.. People like cod and apex because you spend more time looting and riding around in cars then shooting, also 2020 is the year of low effort gamers, people just wanna play among us or fall guys
Honestly, I thought Hyper Scape was fine, but it's movement left something to be desired, especially if you have played something like Titanfall 2, so I dropped it pretty quickly.
Titanfall 2 has a way faster TTK and a shitton more guns, I'm sure if they made it feel like people actually do damage and if they added more variety to gund they'd be a massive success
Imo the way to make Hyper Scape way more appealing to me personally is to 1: Decrease the TTK, cause it is stupidly high for such a fast paced Shooter and 2: Implement a way of wallrunning/walljumping
The insane vertical movement in this game makes it hard to play on console... it’s like trying to play an arena shooter like Quake Champions on console. No amount of aim assist is going to help you with advanced movement options. KBM point and click is a lot easier than trying to line up your shot on a fast moving vertical target with 2 sticks. The map design is lazy and uninspired. All the lootable buildings look the same wherever you go. There’s not a whole lot of cover when someone can just fly right over it. Weapons are bland, not enough customization. I just don’t see why people would play this game over Apex. It feels very phoned in. Crossplay will ruin this game for console players.
hyper scape was so good, in my opinion the main reason ( 95% ) of its downfall was attributed to the genres, bnattle royales already dying means alot, but people nowadays are not used to the 360 degrees movement and aiming like you see in arena shooters. This meant that people got bored of it, since those attributes mean a higher skill cap and on skills which are quite rare nowadays. Also, a big chunk of battle royale players are kids, and adults are more to the side of "Oh its just another br", and Hyper Scape is not the most kid friendly game.
Team Death Match and solos are actually pretty fun I've won multiple and have basically learned the game in 3 weeks. This game is great don't care what anyone says. I thoroughly enjoy it !
The matchmaking has been dead on this game for me, unfortunately, and I really loved this game a lot as a Battle Royale I would consider actually getting better at this one compared to other BRs, the gunplay is my type more than even Apex. Unfortunately, it came out at a bad timing.
I like the direction of your videos and appreciate you trying to tell the stories so thank you for that. Really think you are off-base on the very start of this video with the 'ever since Fortnite' statement though. That game was in development for YEARS and was setup to be a coop survival game. The Battle Royale concept wasn't even a thought for Epic until one of their Unreal engine licensees started making headway with a BR title which was PUBG. Just think it's in poor taste not to give that game credit for creating the genre. It was hitting 3,000,000 concurrent players on Steam before Fortnite exploded.
I totally feel exactly what u describe dude
Well said man, I thought that people should recognize the game for what it is, otherwise it wouldn't work, which makes the game's uniqueness.

somewhat ok optimizations,
No servers beyond US an NA at launch (I live in South America),
Launched shortly after Valorant (high skill ceiling, so game fatigue takes way longer to happen)
Gunplay felt stiff.
I still play this. I'm honestly just hanging on hoping its going to be the same situation as siege or for honor.

Kind weird that hyperscape had some really controversial updates that made alot of people leave tho

The December patch as of the time of writing has worked really well to increase lobby size. Playing after midnight would see lobby size drop drastically, but it seems like a major surge has happened thanks to the new update. Hopefully 2021 will be even better.

@@CrustedPork this comment is a certified hood classic
In conclusion: Hyperscape as an elaborated, community supported and twitch powered arena shooter would’ve been top notch.
i think that hyperscape could be a great cod style game
It was so frustrating to play against players, with such play-styles, as my own play-style just got destroyed more and more.. no player wants to throw away his own fun way of enjoying a game, just to have a chance of wining or having fun.
too bad not everyone can play hard games. high movement mechanics FPS game is destinied to die in 2020.

Honestly, I thought Hyper Scape was fine, but it's movement left something to be desired, especially if you have played something like Titanfall 2, so I dropped it pretty quickly.
It just doesn't have the same depth that titanfall 2 has.
I just didn't like the game ngl, the movement in particular
GL with future vids, I really do like the direction of your channel like I said!
