Honestly, I want this game to succeed, as an Overwatch fan. Healthy competition only makes both parties better in gaming. But it looks like Hi-Rez is so incredibly negligent.
Hi-Rez mostly forgot about it, but Evil Mojo hasn’t. And its world championship ends tomorrow on stream, we’re getting a new character February have a PTS drop today and the game is more wild than ever
To be honest, although it hurt them, it was probably what kept Paladins from flat out dying. With the Facebook/Mixer deals, they at least survived to be able to now come back from those low points.
The statement at the end encapsulates exactly why this game is still going, Hi-Rez just knows how to make good characters, and when they fuck up, they do their best to correct it their course and do better next time. Paladins is like a delicious cake, but the cook never gets the frosting right, and at this point, it feels like no frosting will get people to buy the cake, but those that get a bite really like it for what it is. It's a real shame they keep making questionable decisions, but at least they are trying to make it work.
I very much agree to this. When I picked the game up during it's Beta I was really hyped. I saw a lot of potential for it's future. It just needs a dash of this and that to make it a great cake but like what everyone knows, they never got it right. It's however the kind of cake that I am guilty of still liking despite of the sour taste it leaves in my mouth. There's just something to it that keeps calling me back every now and then, even though it wasn't the same as how I first experienced it. Probably it's the hope that it might miraculously get really better.
See I tried the game a few years back when I was o round 12 and I was awful at the game, but recently(around June) I was really bored and remembered Paladins I had never liked overwatch so I thought I would not like Paladins, BUT to my surprise it is my favorite game and I know I’m new so I may not be able to speak but I love Paladins, I’m so happy with the game even though it’s riddled with issues. I have all the Champs and a bunch of really awesome skins, just hit gold and I’m going for diamond this season. I hope to one day play in ppc or at least become a successful creator for the game (making a YT channel soon).
@@cosmic7639 That's great to hear. I wish you all the best. I have nothing against people who like Paladins. I think the reason why I am so different from people like you is that I was exposed to different kind of Paladins that I can't stand how it is now. I'm actually kinda jealous of those who got see Paladins for how it is now since they don't end up reminiscing about how it used to be and don't have to go through the process of relearning the game due how much change has happened since I last played.

They won't, they have learned from most of their mistakes; they fixed most of the game breaking bugs this whole year, they formed a solid and interesting lore, they have being creating interesting champions with unique abilities kits. Idk, maybe people will say I'm "crazy" for believing in Hired-evil mojo promises, but like you, I enjoy the game, and the last thing I will lose is hope, because besides to the fact that they messed up, they never gave up, they kept creating content and didn't let their game to die, opposite case with Blizzard who is allowing to Overwatch to die slowly
@@katinha3020 I agree, half of the newly released champs have had guns that shoot really fast and none had any interesting new methods of shooting. Sure some have halfway interesting kits but it's similar to the other older champions just slightly better.
@@mordredd spirit doesn't make up for competence. It's clear the Hi-Rez does care about it's game, but they don't have the aptitude to keep it going long-term
The thing about Paladins is that it could've made the entire hero shooter genre better by having a competitive relationship with Overwatch. Quite possibly like Valorant and CS:GO (csgo having a massive update like ping system). Instead, I feel the decline between the hero shooters nowadays.
I agree. Personally Paladins felt like all they would work on were skins. You'd have unfinished stuff at every patch. They apperantly had time to add a new skin for people to buy but not finish the splash art for a character ect. I think they should have focused on polishing the game bit by bit with each update (to cater to more players that look at the game from the outside). And probably also refine the hitbox sizes since they are way too MASSIVE. Hitting shots in paladins don't feel like I actually earned those shots and its not as rewarding because of that. With Overwatch, the game is very polished but it feels like a fuck fest more than a hero shooter. Most of the new heros have flashy abilities that hide your entire screen and the amount of cc mechanics helped push the "shooter" part of "hero shooter" out of the game.
@@InvaderD0c they keep bringing up the argument of "skin designers and modellers have no relation to bug fixes or coding" Which in a way is true, the main issue is that paladins is a giant spaghetti code mess (which is why they never upgraded the game to unreal engine 4 that could actually make it a rival to overwatch in terms of visual)

Hey everyone, we just wanted to clarify a mistake in the intro of the video. We call Paragon a hero shooter inspired game when it's a MOBA similar to SMITE. The main takeaway from the inclusion of the example was to mention how close of a release date it had to Overwatch and may have suffered in its initial reception as a result compared to if it had launched later in the year.
@@InnsannaStories was it really by Blizzard's design, though? It seemed to me like gamers themselves were the ones making the comparisons. Still, it's a shame to see these two games buried before they had a proper chance and playerbase.

One problem with code is seem that Paladins still run on Unreal Engine 3 so it kinda outdated. So i expect that by 20xx or until the very very next gen start in a near future we may expect Paladins 2 running on a better and advanced engine with improvise on gameplay again.
@@vietbachtran1915 The Unreal APIs are not different with new updates, it's the engine that is different. Basically anything you can code in UE5 you can also code in UE3, with the exact same code by the way. Gameplay wouldn't improve if they moved over to newer Unreal Engine versions, what would be improved would be performances, physics, rendering, lighting, shaders, etc... And we all know the game can already run on a potato laptop, and we don't expect them to remodel absolutely everything to take advantage of those new engine updates anyway.
The draft/ban system combined with the item store in Paladins always made it a better E-sport than Overwatch in my eyes. It added a new level of strategy and unlike in Overwatch, you couldn't just swap character mid-game to counter pick your opponent.
Yes. It's make the game harder and more logic. If the opponents has champs that counter your champs at some aspects. You need to know everybody strength and weakness, learn more way to play even improvise tactics at your own champs instead thinking you should have pick another champs should solve the problems lol

Hi rez keep killing all their good games. They killed realm, paladins' esports scene, they killed smite for a bit and etc. Now they are just focusing on rouge company
Smite definitely had a low point but it seems to me at least the game is starting to pick itself back up. The last 2 season were pretty great if not starting to get a bit bland, but with a new map and a rehauled starter item system coming next season the games future is looking fairly bright.
I really wanted to play Rogue Company but my 1000 hours in paladins make me not even wanting to get attached to another great game with expiration date.
True. Those $40 price tag is a MASSIVE barrier for me, even though i really liked their cinematic, character designs, etc. So thanks to Paladins, i became more confident in the genre, and decided to buy OW.
I played paladins first to see if i liked hero shooters. Then bought overwach and had a lot of fun in season 8-9-10. Then they started ruining the game with bad characters, forced metas, queues, power creep, to the point of being forced to play one or two characters at most. As someone that was competing with the best Australian teams in this game I'm honestly just so sad about the way things went. The game was always so fun and the esports scene was incredible to be apart of. When Australian players went overseas to compete full time it looked like there was a chance that Paladins and everyone involved in the esports scene could go so far. It truly felt like hi rez struck gold. Update after update it declined steadily though. Seemingly every announcement left everyone scratching their heads. I don't think there was ever a nail in the coffin for this game, just a slow and painful bleeding that never ceased, despite the community fighting so hard for success. All of us truly tried our best to make Paladins the best it could be. In the end hi rez just killed it dead, like every other game they create and subsequently drop for short term financial gain
A few years from now, I want them back when Hi-Rez improves on the mistakes he made, and brings Paladins back to the professional competitive scene, I want to see them.
I just want this game to succeed. This is one of the very few games I am passionate about and that has so much potential its crazy. Currently, Paladins is like a Caterpillar in its chrysalis, ready to burst into a beautiful butterfly; but it just needs that push to get there. Hi-Rez needs to clean up their act with this game. I dont wanna see this game die.
I've been involved with playing Paladins for more than 4 years now, and I can tell you that this game has been through a lot. The game itself isn't bad. The players are very loyal to the game and the community has such a strong foundation for improvement that we all want. The main issue at hand, as this was mentioned in the video, is that management as absolute dogshit. From hearing about stories from ex-pros that do streaming about the game now, to some people I've met personally that participated in high-rated scrim matches and some even in the beginnings of the Pro League the game offered, or just coming across the Pro League players (throughout my matches overtime), it's just saddening to see a game with so much potential got to waste because of bad management. The Mixer and Facebook deals was purely an attempt to raise $$ for the company, and they didn't see things in the long-term at all. For those wondering, the game is still going good and even though most of the player base got yeeted during the OB64 update, it's slowly regaining but it more likely will never hit that peak ever again (it got around 60k+ on steam charts before the OB64 update, which you can certain TH-cam search about that shit show, but now it just hover around the 20,000-25,000 concurrent mark if you include console playing). There definitely has been much improvement and the current management we have now and the steps the management has took in Evil Moji and HiRez Studios (Evil Moji is the sub-company in HiRez Studios that oversees Paladins directly and is our resource for the game overall), than what was years ago. Things can still be done, but I recommend you guys to give it a try and see if you like it or not, as there are very great things coming soon in the future. (My Pfp is a head-art drawing of the Dragon Character you saw in the beginning of the video when it switched to the Paladins topic, Drogoz)
I've played a good portion of Paladins (About 1,500 hours) and I was not loyal to it because I was well aware of its defining marketing philosophy. They treat it in a way that seeks early gain, and nothing long-term. They had a great idea on their hands but didn't seek to improve it and make it a solid status game. I think they started to kind of move in a direction of long-term, but then didn't commit and that really just set them up for awful decisions. The reason games like LoL got HUGE was because Riot and those huge esport companies put money into their game and had faith. Hi-Rez refuses to have faith in their game. I think if Paladins was actually put real time and money into, it would be absolutely great. Maybe it's too late now because of all the bad rep, but there are so many players that would come back (me included) if they even attempted to make the game of similar status and quality. The concepts in the game and the ideas that the game revolves around are AMAZING! However, the amount of bugs, poor performance optimizations, and the way the esport is managed completely tanks it.
I feel like making the game Free-to-play was one of their big mistakes, too. Had it not been made that way, they likely would've had more money to use and whatnot. Without the champions pack, you have to grind for hours on end to earn enough gold for a single champion. And some champions are priced higher than others, which requires even more grinding. Champions like Seris and Strix (as far as I remember) who are really good cost 60,000 gold and then there's champions like Buck that cost 15,000. There's a lot of imbalance in that system. Their main problem is making things Free-To-Play and not fully committing to the game and making it better. Nowadays, they shove a bunch of skins in the game so they can make as much short term profit as possible before their game dies completely, because at this point I think they know it's inevitable. I love the game and it has so much potential, but it falls short in many, many ways. Maybe in the hands of a different developer, things could go better but after the reputation it's gained I think that would be hard. Making a sequel would look like they're trying to copy Overwatch, but it would be very good for the game-provided it's made right.
@@aqualight1760 First, Seris good😂. I've been playing the game since Beta and I was actually really into the game. I loved Paladins in it's early days and was excited to see where it goes in the future. There were a number of issues but since it was still in Beta I gave it a pass but out of the blue on May 2018 it finally came out of Beta and nothing much was different and tbh it felt a bit worse than how it used to be due to a lack of features that I loved and rousing amount of bugs and such issues that still haven't been sorted out. I still wanted to stay hopeful that the game will get better but as time went on nothing much happened. I then took a long break out of my own volition because I keep running into bugs and etc. that just ruin my gameplay experience. The bugs were miraculously not as harsh after like a year but I no longer play the game as much as I used to and the fact that it still has the same problems that pissed me off didn't help. I agree that it would've been great had Hi-Rez given the dev team more resources and management because looking at how Smite is I know they can do it but they just waste time and money on making other games that all crash and burn (Realm Royale, Smite Hand of the Gods and etc.). They did however manage to luck out with Rogue Company but I fear that this game might get the same treatment or if it does succeed it might suck more of Hi-Rez's attention away from Paladins.

@Mr Mistah Yeah but as someone who has hundreds of hours in overwatch, I can say it revolves way more around strategy than around technical skills. Paladins has way more tech, rivaling tf2 in that department. Even something as simple as rocket jumping/bomb jumping is more advanced than most of the overwatch tech.

Interesting analogy

Same is true of Battleborn, btw. It's more Blizzard employing some hostile marketing than anything.
what is the point of that intro anyway? why not just get to the point of the video?

I dont wanna see this game die.
Why Facebook? Why?
My man raynday is here
he left paladins for apex lmaoooo
@@souperman6406 good decision honestly
Don"t mess with us paladins fans
We don't even enjoy our game
Those who stayed that is
Partialy true
Second if they weren’t Free to Play I am 200% sure that they would have been slaughtered like Paragon, Law Breakers, Gigantic, and Battleborn by Overwatch because no matter how high quality you make your game. If it is somewhat comparable to Blizzard then you hope and pray that you have decent enough community to live past the few years. The wort thing they ever did to Paladins was 2017’s short sightedness which culminated into OB64 and the split of Hi Rez. If Paladins didn’t have a vocal community then I am pretty sure Paladins would be completely dead and be another Dirty Bomb
@@underthat4350 why do people always bring up paragon in a conversation about paladins and overwatch
@@davidzapata3917 but even though it wasn’t kill by OW, screw Fortnite, it still died like the rest. Paragon type games are popping up but by less experienced studios using epic assets and Gigantic has its spiritual successor in Project Stamina b/c it wasn’t closed from OW comp. Gigantic closed b/c the devs were basically in publisher purgatory and couldn’t continue working for free for over 1.5s years while paying off debts to ALL their former publishers.
the intro just made me go way way WAYY back. i used to love this game. also VORA GO BRRRRRRRRR
Imagine paladins being bought by another good company... The dream of every player. It is currently spaghetti coded and the hitboxes are weird...
05:20 I actually went “oooofff” on that part, that’s just too harsh
the game has the same issue as most other Hirez games. divided ranked community. a big reason their games are doing poorly. only certain gamemodes have a ranked leaderboard. which divides the community. Hirez clearly loves dividing the community in every game they make
I'm still surprised paladins grew so big. I played it when it first came out and never expected it to blow how it did
Umm... Battleborn didn't even have an Esports scene. In fact, Gearbox even stated they had literally no interest in it. That's also why Battleborn never had a ranked mode.
That's exactly what he said?
@@saito853 No he didn't. He said Battleborn attempted to have one i believe.
@@ShogunPlasma 1:19 "Paladins is the only OW competitor that survived long enough in the market to have an esports scene"
Alright, but Battleborn was never supposed to have one to begin with? So whats your point?
@@ShogunPlasma Just because the dev didn't make the game with the intention doesn't mean it can't have a competitive scene, in your logic competitive Melee should have never existed.
I feel like, for better or worse, Paladins will be more memorable in ten years’ time than Overwatch will be. Something just feels *right* about it.
Hi-Rez has so many enjoyable and good games, but then they proceed to burn them down immediately.

Hi-Rez needs better management to make better decisions. What a mess. 😔
Hi-Rez is doing a good job lately by improving game, some bugs, and adding new content. Paladins needs more dedication also in ranked/online area. A fresh and new system would be the salvation of this game nowadays
Aaaand, they’ve discontinued their official esports for 2021
Forever bud
There is one thing they didn’t fuck up and that’s the music in paladins
i just wish someone like epic games pick up paladins and it becomes main stream its so good.
I dont know anything about management or marketing but even I knew that exclusively streaming on FB was giving your own game a death sentence
I quit paladins a while back, server issues were unbearable 🙄
SEA servers?
I love the character models in paladins. Playing seris is what got me into this genre
They killed the scene now
I was watching paladins esports in 2019 when it was on mixer, and the games themselves were really, really awesome. However, we could tell that people were burning out, and for me specifically I was getting closer to a pro on youtube as a content creator and he told us that the whole scene was not healthy.
Now the scene (ppc) is not enjoyable, none of the pros are really motivated since the money simply isn't there to be motivating.
Hirez is already killing Rogue Company
I still remember vsing a bunch of ex-premier league players on the GGN tournament website and beating them. Good times with Vandy as our team captain. Long live Neopets.
well this video hasn't aged well huh
Seriously this game has so much more advanced tech than overwatch and such a different gameplay style. I'd love to see it succeed but it seems like Hi-Rez loves killing the fire.
I mean, how can you even build a good competitive scene when the game itself is so filled with bugs at the point that programmers start to listen to suggestions from fans since they don't know what to do anymore.
I pray for Rogue Company to succeed.
Signing up with mixer was the worst decision ever
I don't think RC will though. After the first few weeks of sponsoring a ton of TH-camrs and streamers, it fell off quick. Kinda like Hyper Scape.
@@aqualight1760 it’s not falling, it’s slowly taking shape. Currently it’s not in a state to blow up, but I’m sure it will with the right decisions.

FaceBook deal was probably the worst for the esports scene
I used to have a team playing in Paladins Console League 2018 called "BrutalFissure" and I sadly had to experience first hand the lack of information about payouts and stuff as a team owner. We did fairly well, so our performance wasn't really hindered. But the constant lack of info made the morale drop to the ground. As an ex-player, CEO and caster of this game, I certainly hope for a brighter future moving forward. ^^
