What an unusual coloring book! It looks so different and interesting! Very curious as what medium could be used on that paper. Is really beautiful as is anyway.
Wasn't expecting a Nashville shout out. I've never seen an Australian road trip before and its so cool, the flowers look almost alien to me from the art books alone. Out of curiosity, as an American who has done the trip across the southern US that you pointed out as a comparison, does Australia have a big road trip culture? Americans love their road trips, our rest stops are sometimes landmarks in and of themselves, not to mention the gas stations like Buccees. You mentioned a lot of roadhouses and is that synonymous with hotels/motels? or welcome center?
@@Dausypoo Yes, Aussies love roadtrips! On this trip we saw mostly retirees with their caravans and RVs (they call themselves Grey Nomads, lol!), or younger couples without kids like us. The roadhouses include a fuel station, restaurant, motel and caravan park. A lot of road trains (massive trucks) cross the Nullarbor, so the roadhouses cater to them as well, with plenty of space to park their vehicles overnight.
Hi Becky, what a wonderful trip! 🤩 I know only one other couple who have driven from east to west coast and back. If the roads are sealed all the way and you can do it without a 4WD then I’d love to give it a go. How did you find the roads? I can imagine fuel costs were sky high.😵💫 Your adventure haul is fabulous.😊 It certainly is inspiring. I love seeing the “native” camels on the souvenirs 🤣🤣. Cheers.
The road is sealed the whole way, so you can drive any sort of vehicle across, and most people have caravans or campers. We went in our AWD Subaru Forester, and had no issues at all; the Eyre Highway (Nullarbor road) is fantastic, with no potholes or anything. It was super easy to drive, if a very long way, lol! Fuel was about $2.60/L in the most remote parts, and then around $1.80 everywhere else. We saw wild camels once on the journey; I was so happy! 😆
Last year I randomly came across those Prismacolor Watercolour pencils open stock at 44 Frame Factory in Geelong. I feel like they've had them for quite a while haha! I bought a grey to use for sketching but not overly a fan. Probably just as well since that shop eventually won't be able to restock the open stock.
@@BeckyTregear I had to do a double take as I'd never seen them before, especially since The Art Shop don't have them and they seem to have pretty much everything. Some of the Prismacolor Premier open stock they had weren't sharpened, so I think they've had them a while too 😂 Also, love all the stickers! I collect stickers when I (rarely) get to travel
I have lived with n Geelong for ages and have driven past that shop frequently. I had no idea! Always assumed it was just a framing shop. Just googled them. Why didn’t anyone tell me?! 😅
@@sewmad1400 I didn't know either until I went past on the bus one day and while sitting at the lights that 'art materials' was included on their signage. Amazing what you notice when you don't need to concentrate on the traffic!
Great haul Becky & sounds like you crammed alot in on that trip. With that colouring book I'm wondering if you use a wet paintbrush with just water if the colours will melt like watercolour paint? I remember buying a similar type beek years ago that did this.
Hi Becky, have you used the Sakura Retrico Ballpoint pen? Another sketching artist swears by this as her staple pen, but it costs $33 in shipping from the TokyoOpenShop/ Can you do a ballpoint pen comparison with what we can buy locally in Australia like Officeworks please? That would be a big help. SO hard to find a reliable pen! thank you !
No, I haven't used one of those. Shipping costs are the worst! I haven't done much with ballpoint pens but I'll take your suggestion and see what I can come up with. 😄
@@BeckyTregear thank you Becky! I also heard Muji pens are good! Domestika ^ and Skillshare inspired me to get into using my pens for daily sketching and Marco Mazzoni has a ball point pen Domestika course, but hearing of the Sakura Retrico ballpoint from sara tepes was so convincing, I was so tempted to want to try those pens out. Looks like the good' ol Officeworks visit will have to suffice. I've been burnt with brand new pens being completely dried up fresh from the packaging - all of the S-Gel Sharpies are hopeless! And 2 of the Sakura Micron Fineliners were dry brand new, never been used! I couldn't find a simple online remedy to activate the new Sakura Microns :-(
I think you should paint the dragon with your Inktense pencils. It would be a great subject and fun to do. I say Inktense because you are more of a watercolour artist, but I think the pencils themselves would be great for the details too. I need some Australian wildflowers books. I have to send something to an American artist YTer and want to include something Australian for her. I'm struggling to find the right thing in my local bookstore and even Amazon to gift her. you've given me new keywords to try 🙏 It looks like there are two types of the Prisma watercolours. There is a tiger package one too. Are yours ocean colours? There might be 72 colours across both ranges. It looks like they are on sale everywhere now. They must be new to Australia.
That's a great idea! Dragons are always great subjects. Australian wildflowers or birds would both be good books to send overseas. Well, I like those subjects anyway, haha! I have no idea about the Prismas; I'd never seen watercolour pencils by them before so I'll have to do some research.
The Prismacolor Water Soluble pencils are sort of decent but is a shame they are not available open stock, hence I dont buy them anymore. They have been around for more than 20 years 😂 So no, not a new item. 😅 And back in the day, they were available open stock. And there is a rumor that the Prismacolor Premier will follow the same fate... Sold only in sets... Hope that doesn't happen!
LOL I'd honestly never seen them before!!! 😂 They're new to me....heheh. I think I'll keep the set for travel uses, so it'll take forever to use up the pencils anyway, but it's always a bummer when they aren't sold as open stock.
@BeckyTregear I would recommend the Faber-Castell ones personally, I think they're a bit cheaper than the museum ones but are still wonderful to work with.

I adored those coasters with the adorable animals on them. That journal is really nice as well, both of them. There were 2, right?. Well, there are so many things that it's hard to remember them all. lol But what a fun time you must have had. And how good it must feel to be home. I look forward to seeing some of the goodies in future videos!
@@TracieWho We had a really great time, even if it was pretty tiring in parts. It's much easier to drive long distances here though, compared to the UK. There's much more open space and a lot less people. 😁
@@BeckyTregear Taking our travel trailer across the country is on our bucket list. We live on the west coast, about an hour out of Seattle. I would love to drive along the coast all the way to Florida. Traffic will be horrific in parts tho. Almost all our coastal regions are so heavily populated. Some of it is still too wild tho - like the Oregon coast and the Northern Washington coast. They are stunning! We need an artist exchange program like they do in schools! lol You can come here and I will go there - because Australia is also a bucket lister.
I love the haul, especially the cups and owl. Just came by to say try doing a head clean on your printer. It should either be in your app or menu. That will get rid of the lines you have right now
@@JanSkebeng Thank you, I did a clean a while ago which fixed it for a while. It’s probably because I put after-market inks in, instead of the Epson ones and they have been dodgy the whole time. 🙈
I always like buying cards, stickers, bookmarks etc as souvenirs because they’re lightweight and easy to use for journalling etc. I also buy teatowels! I had a gorgeous Australian Wildflowers one with a yellow border but it got burnt unfortunately! I was able to salvage a few patches of it for a quilt.
@@riverAmazonNZ Teatowels are great too! I bought what I thought was an apron and it turned out to be a tote bag! 🤣
Hi Becky beautiful video your road trip looks amazing my parents use to do the drive from Townsville to Brisbane at Christmas time when I was younger I’ve been to northern nsw. Armadale uralla tamworth and most of the small town’s western qld far north qld as well basically I’ve seen most of Queensland.. we live in amazing country beautiful country too ❤❤❤😊😊😊xxx
@@kyliescolouringindownunder3098 I love Queensland, hopefully I'll get back there soon. 😊
Looks like u had a gd time sorry u felt unwell look forward to the swatches that are coming artxx does pastels too they are really growing as a company ❤
Nick and I have been giving each other colds all winter this year! I caught a cold on the trip and gave it to him. Then this week he's caught another cold and now I'm sick with it too....it's like Virus Tennis! 😤
@@BeckyTregear I play that too with my household
Good fun...
Re: Michael Harding watercolors, if you don’t a.ready have the cerulean blue, definitely get it. It is my favorite color of all of my watercolors, and I have way too many…
@@JessicaCEPI'll put that on the wishlist!
Enjoyed the road trip 😊
Great video and thanks for sharing as always 🎉
Looks like you had a great trip across our "wide brown land". You could have called in for a cuppa on your way back. :) Great haul too. I come from Adelaide, but I don't think that art shop was in Hahndorf then. Like everything in Hahndorf it looks boutique. Anyway, thanks for sharing your trip and haul. Looking forward to seeing more about your finds. BTW, I've wishlisted your travel brushes, I've been wanting a set, but have not been sure what to get, so that was very helpful. Cheers.
@@heathersherlock Hahndorf is very touristy, but I do love it! 😊 Th Fuumuui brushes have been great so far; the sable bristles are soft and luscious.
What an unusual coloring book! It looks so different and interesting! Very curious as what medium could be used on that paper.
Is really beautiful as is anyway.
I need to try a few things in it, but I might just scan the pictures to colour separately.
@@BeckyTregear I have so many questions about Australian roadtripping because it sounds like a perfectly nice vacation idea.
@@siobhanexplores I am late to the party it seems! 😂
@@BeckyTregear I had to do a double take as I'd never seen them before, especially since The Art Shop don't have them and they seem to have pretty much everything. Some of the Prismacolor Premier open stock they had weren't sharpened, so I think they've had them a while too 😂
Also, love all the stickers!
@@michelleh9685 I'm definitely going to try that! It didn't occur to me that it might be one of those Just Add Water books. 😂
I couldn't find a simple online remedy to activate the new Sakura Microns :-(
10:34 u could photocopy the pages u want to colour so u can keep the book as is u wanted to
Great idea!
@@BeckyTregearI have them sometimes 😂😂
🥰👋👌
The Prismacolor watercolor pencils have been around for a long time.
I just missed them entirely, apparently! 😂
I'm struggling to find the right thing in my local bookstore and even Amazon to gift her. you've given me new keywords to try 🙏
It looks like there are two types of the Prisma watercolours.
And back in the day, they were available open stock.
The water color pencils are not as good as the Faber Castels but I love the tin.
Yes, I'd agree with that! ❤
I have the Prismacolor watercolor pencils. I got them off Amazon. It was dirt cheap but the quality is... Less than ideal
@@markyteo I haven't used them a lot yet but I'm getting a so-so vibe from them. They may not be dissolving as much as I want...
@@BeckyTregear exactly. You are better off with the Caran D'ache Museum Aquarelle!
@BeckyTregear I would recommend the Faber-Castell ones personally, I think they're a bit cheaper than the museum ones but are still wonderful to work with.
