    Technically, we got two additional Craig adventures between Quantum of Solace and Skyfall - Goldeneye and Blood Stone. 007 Legends tried to tie more classic storylines into Craig's era, although its not really considered canon now as Spectre contradicts it.

    Good point at 23.28. I´m so fed up with all Bonds personal stuff.

    I always had an interpretation of when Bond enters Macau. This is where he first meets Severine, who then takes him to Silva. I always thought that Bond entering the first dragon's mouth in the beginning of that scene is him leading himself into the real danger. Kind of a foreshadowing of sorts. That's how I see it, anyway.

    Skyfall is my fav Bond movie. I know people out there would disagree but it's the first Bond movie in a long time that just got to me. Can't really explain it. Even more than Casino Royale (and that one is just amazing).
    It's a shame Spectre took a nosedive just when the series had a clear direction to go after Skyfall.

  • @billa107
    @billa107 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I agree with your statement. Just a typical Bond adventure would be great from Craig. Something not personal. I mean every movie he's done as Bond has been this angsty, depressing adventure. It works for CR and Skyfall. But four personal adventures are a bit much for Bond. Maybe it's because they want add more depth to the character, but they can still do that but not be so damn depressing about it. Craig's Bond is very much good, I just wish he had more fun as well. He's been through enough.

      I was so done with the "personal" schtick by Spectre. What they do with Blofeld's past in that film is atrocious and screams of lazy writing to me. It honestly reminded me of Austin Powers: Goldmember more than anything. It's like they didn't know how to make Blofeld interesting, so they threw in this shitty backstory to make him seem more important than he was.

    • @billa107
      @billa107 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      SolarDragon007 Agreed. I mean it's BLOFELD. Every Bond fan knows of him, and it's about his performance more than the character. That's why Plesence and Savalas' Blofelds are memorable. Not their story but how they were portrayed.

    I disagree with you that the scene with the bridge/train is the major action scene. I'd say the sprint down Whitehall to reach Silva on the tube intercut with Dench reciting poetry was he best scene. Never noticed the Henekin ads - you don't think you went to far...?

    • @michaelhawkins7389
      @michaelhawkins7389 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Back when James Bond first came out, Secret Intelligence Service, now known as MI6 wasn't public knowledge. And Bonds job was less of an MI6 agent and more of a Special Operations Executive(SOE) agent. An organisation set up during WWII, and where the agents did have a license to kill. It was disbanded after the war, but I wouldn't be surprised if in the stories it still existed.

    I totally agree with your love for the little touches like Eve's voice choice from the earpiece audio to live voice as she walks past him. It's just that kind of thing that really stands out in this film and makes me love it. The long unbroken shots that display the sets or the introduction of Silva. It's all done really really well.

    Patrice's final contract was overly elaborate, but hey it's Bond. Also Severene and the mooks with her would not be incriminated by police at the murder scene if an unseen sniper picked off their victim, also Patrice's victim could've been a rival to Silva in the Shanghai criminal underworld or a CCP official who was involved in Silva's torture.

    Not a fan of Thomas Newman's score with the exception of that beautiful heroic cue alongside Ulysses by Tennyson (notable for being an emotional peak rather than an action one - more familiar territory for him).

    38:20 Sorry, I guess that that's just you. It's an interpolation of Adele's theme song (The only one in the whole film!) and to me, it works perfectly at that moment. I could identify it easily as Skyfall (especially the chorus) and I can't hear the Jurassic Park connection, I'm afraid.

    • @SolarDragon007
      @SolarDragon007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Corneel Vanfleteren I love how much David Arnold incorporated You Know My Name into the score of Casino Royale.

    • @CorneelVf
      @CorneelVf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I listen to the CR score regularly, and though it lacks the Bond theme (until the very end) in full, YKMN is a great secondary theme!
      If Arnold comes back for Bond 25, I'd like a tiny snippet of YKMN in the score, to bookend Craig's era, so to speak.

    • @SolarDragon007
      @SolarDragon007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Corneel Vanfleteren I would fanboy like crazy if he did that. I think Casino Royale's soundtrack is Arnold's best one. I also like a lot of TWINE's score as well like the river chase music.

    • @CorneelVf
      @CorneelVf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TWINE's score is good (that boat chase indeed!), but I also have a soft spot for TND. The Bond theme is used liberally and frequently, but it doesn't disappoint.

    • @SolarDragon007
      @SolarDragon007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Corneel Vanfleteren I wish the new films used the theme more too. I miss it a lot. Also am I the only one who finds Newman's score to be mostly, (with some exceptions), lackluster?

      He mentioned it long ago, where the original script to License to Kill took place in China instead of Latin America. The third film might be referring to Goldeneye, which I think Dalton was originally going to do before they got Pierce Brosnan.

    I totally agree that they have probably made Skyfall too soon. I mean CR and QoS were pretty much an origin story for cold, confident, calculating and womanizing Bond that we are used to know. We get glimpses of “peak” Bond in that Istanbul opening chase, but after that Bond has to regain his confidence back. Wish we had a movie between QoS and Skyfall.

    Glad I'm not the only one annoyed by lack of opening gun barrel. Imagine how star wars fans would react if there weren't any scrolling credits at the start! At least spectre started to work back in some of the bondisms. Just a shame about the last quarter of the film.....which was gash on toast!

    • @SolarDragon007
      @SolarDragon007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Then when we finally get one proper in Spectre it fucking sucks ass. Say what you will about the Brosnan age, but those films had the BEST goddamn gunbarrels in the series.

    • @Elementa2006
      @Elementa2006 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      SolarDragon007 yep, I love Daniel Craig's Bond but his gunbarrel sequences aren't very good especially since YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE GUN WHEN HE'S WALKING, which ruins it

    • @SolarDragon007
      @SolarDragon007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gun-barrel designs are so generic and lazy too. They barely move at all and the constant reuse of that same version of the Bond theme from Casino Royale doesn't help either.

    The Train-Scene at the beginning is great but since i saw "Everything wrong with Skyfall" it always bothers me that half of the train gets ripped apart and it still moves on like nothing happened. Especally the passengers do not see too much concerned about it when its ripped open and Bond jumps in. ^^ Great movie nonetheless, one of my Top 10 Bond-Movies and in my opinion Craigs second best Bond after Casino Royale.

    I don't think it matters what the painting guy hit was all about. They wanted him killed and this was how they felt it was best to do it, probably so it was obvious none of the people in the were involved, and that's all there is to it.

    Yes, the Severine casino scene is SO great, and beatifully executed. Too bad it gets undercut the scene after... With Bond waltzing in on her unannounced while she's in the shower. It's... rapey, and that's an understatement. That shower scene is so baffling to me, I can't believe they decided to use it, can't we just move on from insidious shit like this already?

    I don’t know if an adaptation of Solo will ever happen, but I really do hope aspects of Bond’s character will make an appearance in the next Bond film. Also the ending in Solo will make a perfect finale for Craig’s Bond.
    Sorry but Naomie Harris is awful! There is no chemistry between her and Craig, her performance is infuriating and by the end she is a pest. Skyfall is close to being perfect, perfect pacing, action is great and story also is great, but because I dislike her character so much Skyfall is my second favourite Bond instead of my top favourite. No there is no fun banter, the chemistry is forced and Harris is beautiful, but she is terrible as this character. I mean look at the ending, a beautiful sombre moment, Bond on top of the building, the flags are in the wind, and then she comes along and says "Wow, didn't know you can come up here" There a flight of stairs that go up the building, I mean I imagine access to the roof is needed from time to time. Stupid.
    Adele’s song is perfect. Probably the best Bond song to date. Loved it the first moment I listened to it and I loved it more when I first saw the credit sequence, also probably the best sequence after Casino Royale’s. Surprised you didn’t mentioned Muse’s Supremacy, which was rumoured to be the title song for Skyfall
    I do understand what you're getting at Skyfall getting made too soon, and I agree it will be great to see Craig's Bond to go out on a mission in a stand alone adventure... but hey the world is just too complicated these days. I have always found Dench's M to be cold and calculated, Bernard Lee and Robert Brown may have been annoyed at Bond at times, but they always held a personal likeness for him. Sure when Dench says to Bond "Come back alive" in Goldeneye there is a sight of this, but apart from that forget it. When Craig came along, that cool determination became warmer and in Skyfall we finally see her facade slip away and she is holding onto her job and her life by a thread, the scene when Mallory accuses M of being sentimental about Bond, Dench's expression says it all. Its a shame it took 17 years for Dench to finally get a good Bond script. Keeping up the too soon theme, I'm going to jump the gun and say that Skyfall may well be the closest Bond film to the feeling of the Fleming novels. The pacing, the pausing in action scene, hell even the title Skyfall just sounds so Flemingesque and is unique, certainly better than the later Brosnan titles. It's not the action we only remember, but the actual film itself, the story, and the characters, no doubt Fleming would have been proud.
    As for Fiennes, perfect casting. It was great that a one time potential Bond was cast in the role, the way he says Bond makes me weep that Brosnan was chosen over him. Cretins! As for Whishaw's Q, absolutely sensational, a great update for the character and he wipes aways the stink that Cleese left.
    No contest, Skyfall shows off its budget and it looks amazing. Unlike Quantum of Solace. And the locations are brilliant, that elevator was actually modelled on a highrise located in Bishopsgate in London, I think the exterior of the highrise is the actual building that was modelled. The music, sorry its just you Jurassic Park nevered entered my mind whilst listening to this. The editing again superb and after Quantum its a relief to see what's going on. Plus I like the SPECTRE opening.

      Sad that you think they don't have chemistry, I do think they work very well. What is it that you don't like? I do think Harris works good as Moneypenny. Hopefully you're more positive about her when the next Bond arrives, as I hope she'll stay on the job just like Maxwell did.

      If you're referring to my other comment I was talking about Bond and Madeleine in Spectre. That was so awful. Especially coming just two films after an amazing "Bond falling in love" type story with Bond and Vesper. It was so much better executed in Casino Royale.
