Ian Fleming's first Bond novel Casino Royale finally gets officially adapted by EON with a new actor making his debut as 007 - Daniel Craig.
This is re-upload that had recently been taken down. This is part two of my review of Casino Royale. Initially this project was done several years ago and I wasn't able to post it on my TH-cam channel. After going back and doing some re-editing, cutting and tweaking of it to make it acceptable to TH-cam I've had to upload it again. Hopefully it sticks around for awhile.

Great job! At 61 Bond has always been a part of my life, and an idealized role model. My father let me read the books as soon as he finished them (which my mother disapproved of). Going to see each of the Connery movies with my Dad was literally a "Bonding" ritual of my childhood. While you have succinctly pointed out the decline and fall of Brosnan; I hated Moore from the start. Lazenby had left me baffled at what I considered a horrific miscast. Dalton had to go when it was about to be revealed, keep the timeline in mind, that he was gay. So at first Brosnan was a breath of fresh air; "Goldeneye" was seen as a triumph. Yet by "Die Another" the bloom was well off a fast fading rose.
To me Craig was like a restoration. I truly enjoyed a return to the physicality of Connery, the lethality without remorse. I have always thought of the "00s" as essentially "The King/Queen's Assassins". I've even mentally projected them back through history. Their purpose is to act when statecraft and conventional military options, are no option. They are a stiletto as opposed to the broad axe. At least that's my take. Now I suppose I'll watch the rest of your videos. I look forward to it. ABTW For what it's worth... I'm a combat veteran of the 82nd Abn Div. Infantry. Maybe there's a little Bond in all of us, if we aspire to seek it out...

So I wanted to address your criticism about the clunkier dialogue in the 3rd act between James and Vesper.
When they meet in the train, they are both in their armor, guard is way up- this is where they are both the most comfortable. By the time they fall in love, although you would expect their conversations to sound more natural, it's really the opposite. Neither one of them is comfortable being so exposed emotionally, and I think they are both talking in a language they don't fully understand- hence, it sounds forced.
Now, I can't say that this was the writer's intent, BUT, it totally fits the two characters.
    Great video,

HaphazardStuff to answer your question, Pierce Brosnan tried to watch Casino Royale on an airline but it kept breaking, so he just gave up. but he enjoyed what he saw.

You completely missed the point on the Omega line. Omega was nearly dead when they summoned the last of their money to put their new Seamaster in Goldeneye. That brilliant piece of product placement saved them. As luxury mechanical watches began to make a comeback in the late 90's and early 00's, Omega quickly gained a foothold because of their connection to Bond. But Omega was still second banana to Rolex. Rolex was, and is, a Juggernaut in the luxury watch world. The rivalry between the two companies once saw the two on equal footing. In 2006 the price difference between Bond's old watch, The Rolex Submariner, and his newer Omega saw the Rolex come in at more than twice the price. The line was added specifically at the request of Omega. By her suggesting Rolex by name and having Bond correct her presumption with "Omega", that single piece of dialog suggests that Bond's Seamaster equals Rolex's Submariner or even bests it. The fact that Omega has returned as a Titan of the luxury watch world is owed most directly to the placement of their watches on the wrists of Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig.

Very well said. And I fell for the product placement myself. I proudly own a Seamaster 300m, and prefer that than a Submariner.

Thank you for the insight and context! I'd have to disagree about the poker game lenght. When I watched the movie for the first time, the poker session made me stew. Maybe it was long ( I just measured it: about 30 minutes including the stairway fight and the defib scene. so in fact there was not soo much screentime spent with poker in comparison to the total movie lenght), but in my opinion it had to be that long to create the desired effect(suspense).

The reason why you did not here the James Bond Them Song alt through the movie, because the movie was about him becoming Bond. This is why we did not get the traditional gun barrel he is not the Jame Bond we know yet. If you knew anything about James Bond 007 movies you would know that. That was what the movie was about. Read The Book!!!!!!!
I truly believe this is the best James Bond movie ever made. And the best witting and best Jams Bond love story.

You seem to be less keen on the subsequent Craig films. Do you still hold him as highly as you did in Casino Royale?

Can u blame him? Craig is a couch psycho analysts dream. Cmon this is 007. Stop trying to make him human like us. Tine to go to the Connery blueprint.

Vesper was not insulting Bond for wearing an Omega. Quite the opposite. A Rolex would have been the obvious choice, so choosing an Omega reminds us that Bond has class and good taste.

Omega has gotten their return on investment. However I am not crazy about the new or Not So New Now Bond Watch. Omega needs to get rid of the unnecessary helium escape valve. However they refuse to because of$$$. Then all the bond and watch people would buy the non escape valve model and Omega would have to have a lower price on the non valve model .which would be 98.9% of the Seamaster sales.

Good review, though I really feel you are too hard on Brosnan. He didn't write the screenplays or dire dialogue in his absurd last 007 movie. I thought he blended the Moore a d Connery lersonas very well. I blame Babs and Mike for the silly plots and bad CGI...what the hell were they thinking of? Also Craig is a brilliant actor but plays Bond a bit too thuggish, like Jason Bourne. He is Supposed to be suave...

Yes . BUT. ..every Bond actor LOOKED like they could punch someone's lights out in hand to hand combat and pull off a multitude of death defying stunts. Even Roger could appear grim when needed. Pierce was the only one who didn't have that presence. I never thought he was capable of any if that. Despite his bad scripts and horrible cgi just clenching your jaw and grimacing doesn't make u the tough Bond. You have to have screen presence for that which Pierce sadly lacked to portray 007. Hes done way better stuff like The Matador and Seraphim Falls.

@@ImYourHuckleberry_29 I DID like when Pierce shot that girl in front of M in cold blood. (Wolr is not Enough?) That is the Bond from the books for sure. But yea, physically he lacks a bit. Still enjoyed his movies. Especially Goldeneye.

Am I the only one who found much of Paul Haggis's verbal repartee overwritten and loquacious? It's aiming for the mercurial wit of writers like Ben Hecht or Joseph L. Mankiewicz but comes across more like a poor man's Terence Rattigan ... or Steven Poliakoff.
Daniel Craig is a terrific stage and screen actor, but with Casino Royale, he does appear visibly tense. With the weight of expectation and the abuse he was getting from the tabloids and DNIC, it's understandable. Occasionally that tension works in the performance's favour, lending it a brusqueness befitting a leopard that hasn't earned it stripes, but at other moments it stymies the (already overcooked) dialogue. There are so many moments where I wish the director had told Craig and Green to just slow down and relax (the train, cab and balcony scenes being too of the worst offenders), but then Martin Campell isn't an actor's director like Sam Mendes or even Marc Forster.
For all of Quantum of Solace's flaws, Craig is a lot less mannered in it. He's not "act-ting" so much as being and inhabiting the part, and that's the secret. Forster probably had something to do with that, and I guess with the greater creative control that Craig had in the sequels, he was able to attack the screenplay with a red pen, and do what all good screen actors do--say it with a look.
I still like Casino, but on many counts, it does feel like a missed opportunity. Overwritten dialogue, the film's grandest setpieces crammed into the first act, Arnold's competent but workman-like score, Stuart Baird's bland editing, the unimaginatively shot poker game, squandering Mads Mickelson's talents on a such underwritten villain etc.

"If you don't like Craig, just remember that one day he will be done with the role"
you might have struggled through 8 years of the Brosnan Age (i agree with you there btw), but i had to struggle through 15 years of the Craig era, and it's not even over yet..........

Why doesn't anyone ever criticise Eva Green's delivery in this movie? She sounds odd af. It's so unnatural to speak like that. It's fake sounding. No one talks like that.
