I think GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough are the 2 BEST Pierce Brosnan James Bond films. And of course Casino Royale and Skyfall are the 2 BEST Daniel Craig James Bond films ever.

Agreed. Though to be fair out of 8 or so Bond women. He only has chemistry with like 3 of them Electra Natalia and Xenya. The chinese girl is a good actress but she feels more like a friend. Paris is annoying Christmas is irritating and Jix is obnoxious. And Maranda Frost is just dull.

It seems clear to me that the final scene with Elektra is showing that she likes taking risks. She's a thrill seeker. That's why she's laughing as she gets up off the floor and runs up the steps. She's having fun! Study her face in the final confrontation. She's measuring risk, you can see it in her face.

I actually think The World is Not Enough is underrated.....it is a good Bond picture better than many Bond movies......it had the fantastic boat chase, the Zukhovsky warehouse attack was cool and the end action was great as well.....and Bond falling for the villain and the whole M kidnapping subplot really amps up the story........David Arnold does his best score and Brosnan is top notch in here.

I actually kinda felt bad for Brosnan. Dude did what he had to do, what he was asked for, and gave the most solid performance possible in this movie - but still was let down by the writers time and time again. Anytime you see little fragments of potential in his movies, they were thrown away immiatedly, and it became cheesy again. Very frustrating! The 90's surely were not a good time for the Bond character and the franchise!

If GoldenEye is Brosnans best Bondmovie this has got to be his second best. Great plot, great score, great cast and an underrated theme song. It´s easily Brosnans best performance as Bond. Many people dislike Denise Richards as Dr Jones... I don´t get why. I like her. The only real flaw in this movie is a long ending in that submarine. The rest of the movie works quite well. Not much bad to say here.
How can you say that nothing stands out?
The parahawks, the villains, the Thems chase, the helicopters with saws on. It´s just great. Much more memorable than Tomorrow Never Dies which didn´t come up with anything new.

TND is a loose remake of You Only Live Twice, hence nothing new would be presented (DAD is a loose remake of Diamonds Are Forever). While TWINE is a highly flawed entry, it offers unexplored stuff not unlike GoldenEye.

25:42 Renard was originally gonna be introduced earlier in the film during the pre-titles right after Bond escapes Lachaise's office. Obviously this would have immediately revealed he was the sniper who shot Lachaise's guard. The scene was cut, but can be seen among the deleted scenes. He had a much better entrance during the devil's breath scene.

I realize a lot of people don't appreciate what Brosnan was at least attempting to embody, the "old Hollywood" idea of a gentleman spy, but it when his Bond movies were lackluster, it was the script, casting, and shaky direction that let him down most of the time. He can act. Watch some of the movies he's been in during and since Bond, including the Thomas Crown Affair and Tailor of Panama, and that becomes obvious. Unfortunately I fear the idea of the gentleman spy is gone forever. Craig is a fine actor, but there is little to distinguish his Bond from any of the other current action heroes. These movies are no longer escapist fun.

Watching these older Bond films a long time afterwards gives me an interesting perspective. Unlike with No Time To Die, and inevitably the 20+ or so films I'll hopefully see in my life, I don't expect them to be amazing. I just appreciate the positives. So what if this one from 1999 isn't great, there's the other ones I already like. That's all going to change now though, as any time I see a new Bond film I'll have high hopes. TWINE is a strange one. In a tenure that is so formulaic, it's remarkable that they made these bold decisions, but then couldn't be bothered to develop them.

TWINE knocks it out of the park when it comes to costume design, set design, and cinematography. Unfortunately, that's where it's good qualities end. The biggest problem I have with the film (well, aside from Denise Richards) is the emotional angle. Bond, M, and Renard were so sentimental, so niave that they couldn't see Elektra for who she was. I'd say the second problem was the action. I don't know of it's the editing or the direction but nothing came across as altogether coherent during the action scenes. The boat chase was probably the best action set piece in the film but it just dragged on after a bit.

I have an opinion that I often imagined lately. What if they portray Christmas Jones as the opposite character of Elektra? Elektra is charming, feminine, and classy. So, Christmas will be tough, boyish, smart, and sarcastic (influence from her tough field job). Although sarcastic and tough, she is actually a kind-hearted and good listener. She shares a same childhood like Bond, became an orphan in young age, doesn't have many friends, and feel so lonely but they cover it all with their cold face. Bond and Christmas are both professionals, they hide their feelings but they can't deny it. Bond has a problem with serious relationship, while Christmas has a problem with "boyfriend-girlfriend" relationship. When she knows Bond falls in love with Elektra, she is sad but she understands (she even blames herself why she easily falls in love with a person she just met). She tries to comfort Bond, to do the right thing even if it means against Elektra. While Elektra doesn't have any hesitation to torture Bond, Christmas will do the opposite. She doesn't have any hesitation to save him. In my mind, she's not going to die but she wounded so badly at the end of the movie which makes Bond feels bad. She is taken to a hospital, Bond waiting for her and confesses his love when she wakes up. He decided to retired from MI6. They get married (or not). At the end of the movie, Bond brings Christmas to his home in Skyfall. That would be epic

Denise Richards might have been passable as an assistant to a more mature, seasoned female nuclear physicist. As well, her role as a love interest for Bond diluted the emotional impact of the ill-fated 'romance' between he and Electra King.
Agree that the film ought not to have stuck with the 'formula'. This should have ended with his executing Electra - with the submarine/Renard part cut out, or come out before his final confrontation with the main villain.
Last but not least, the genesis for this film came from a story the US daily news programme Nightline did on the post-Cold War petroleum issue in Central Asia (Kazahkstan) - one which just fortuitously had been caught by Barbara Broccoli. Had she not, then there presumably would have been a different third Brosnan entry.

The point being that this is James Bond (hello) and isnt supposed to be like boring real life. Its James Bond (hello) and to those of us not challenged by a critical mind, it plays out on screen like a dream. A dream where everything is possible and one can forgive the actual omission of too many nods to real life because this is James Bond (hello) and is all about an escape from dreary reality into a world of glamour, action and style. A world that can become real if you believe. Bond is for dreamers and believers not for critics.✌It is indeed for us, a magnificent film.

It is a very rare emotion for me watching a Bond film to feel bored, but from the moment that Brosnan dives down to the submarine this film became utterly mechanical. Brosnan is doing his best with the material (as is Arnold with his score), but Apted is the wrong director for a Bond film and the second unit couldn't compensate for this with involving action sequences. Instead these sequences feel like someone thought of a unusual gimmick that couldn't translate into properly developed set piece. Even the Thames boat chase felt an odd mish-mash of tones and styles to me.

A first attempt at a more emotional story but it even failed at that because every time it attempted one , the air really did leave the baloon like Haphazard said. Very weird. It also had really bad CGI, especially the hologram of Renards head. Way to date the movie. It truly peaked in the pre title sequence which is really sad. Brosnan did give a better performance here than his prior two movies, but it’s overshadowed by the film being so boring and badly done. It lacked interesting locations. Not even Istanbul was vaguely interesting strangely enough. The heavy focus on oil fields was just part of why this movie is forgettable. It leaves the movie having a generally gray/ brown color scheme which is absolutely unappealing and unexciting. TND had locations set in Germany which boasted more color than much of this movie has. Denise Richards being a terrible Bond was so minor versus everything else this movie did wrong. If there’s one thing this movie did, that’s get on the right track with character driven stories with much less Macguffin driven plots.

This movie didn’t work for me at all. A bit boring tbh.

The worst Bond movie. But it has gained a lot of strong competition!

Brosnan over acted terribly in TWINE...."You can't del aliveeeeeeee"!! Oh please....

Brosnans era was the worst. Goldeneye may be his best but its still over rated in my opinion. Most over rated films of the series, You only live twice, Goldeneye and Skyfall and the most under rate, Thunder ball and A View To A kill.

Maldini88 nah skyfall is overrated. The reason why it was so acclaimed is because it was so much better than that bourne ripoff pos that preceded it QOS, goldeneye is def a top five bond film easily and Pierce genuinely owned the role in that one. It’s just a shame he got screwed over by the producers culminating in the travesty that was DAD. And a view to a kill is considered to be amongst the worst bonds and rightfully so, awful film. Roger should’ve walked away after octopussy.

I think a view to a kill just embraces the comedic aspect more but does it in a more polished way. Octopussy is really boring to me and I think Goldeneye is boring and corny.

Gee. I think this one is among the best in the whole series, and by far the strongest of the PBs.
