I have no idea why I keep calling upper control arm the lower control arm, long day!! Control arm nut torque ball joint nut torque and the lower shock nut torque 111 foot pounds
@@meechyt9748 as for Manuel inflation bags I don't I only know how to do the conversion where you take the factory bags out and switch to Springs and new shocks which I posted a video on that today
Thank you for this video. I ordered upper control arms and struts for my 03 Town Car today. Sounds like I will be buying some new tools but it doesn’t look like that bad of a job.
I replaced my upper control arms with the ball joint and I got to say it was quite difficult. Even my dad who was a mechanic for over 40 years had a difficult time with it. Maybe because they were original and if they were they had 240K on them. It looked like the front suspension was never taken apart. I also replaced the stabilizer links those were a pain to deal with. We got everything replaced and got the control arms torqued to the 111 foot pounds. The front end feels better, but still isn't quite right and has seemed to lose it's "float" in the front now.
Hello Mr. Ford Boss Me. Great video thank you. Is possible to only do the ball joint without having to un hook the upper control arm and the bottom bolt? Thanks
I think at that point you'd have more trouble pressing it in and out It would just be way easier to replace the whole arm save yourself the headache but I don't think you can replace them because it looks like they are pressed in from the factory
I just got done with replacing the upper control arm thanks to Ford Boss Me. I would recommend doing it the way it's done in the video. For anybody that's doing it when you get to the ball joint on the upper control arm the best way to stop the bolt from spinning is to use a hex key on the bottom of the bolt or you could do it the hard way like I did to take it off and use some Vice grips. Thanks again
I commented a few days ago about saying after the upper control arms being replaced the car didn't seem right and it lost it's "float". Well I figured out why. When I got the car back on the ground after getting both sides done, I heard a slight pop which I just thought the suspension was "adjusting". Turns out the upper ball joint popped out of the control arm! Without knowing I drove the car for 2 days like this! I also noticed the strut isn't centered in it's tower. The next question is why did this happen. Can these control arms be torqued with the suspension unloaded?
Am I missing something my town car currently has loaded struts on it that’s how I got it. I keep looking up loaded struts for it or even just coils and struts separate but it’s like it’s not supposed to have a spring on the front?
Nice tutorial!!! I'm sure you know the 98-02 is kinda different. The UCA connects to the frame. More like a truck. Those you have to be careful with the spring!
Man, I was about to make a video about this! I don't doubt yours is better than what mine was going to be. I had the issue where my airbox is stuck in and I'm afraid to break the bolts on it. Got any tips to get that ABS sensor replaced?
Well I know some ABS sensors are part of the wheel bearing assembly and some of the assemblies have to be replaced in order to replace the ABS sensor And the ones that can be replaced if you pull the bolt that's holding them out in the housing that it's in and you actually take like an air hammer & bang on the housing around the area where it's at but don't destroy anything you can actually enjoy the rest of the stuff in its holding it there and you can also spray it with some PB Blaster and let it get down around the plastic and just slowly move it back and forth and eventually it'll come out
@@FordBossMe you're right, I might as well post the video once it's complete ✊✊ Problem is I put PB Blaster down in them once a day for a week, and they refuse to move still. Could you elaborate on the air hammer part?
Are you trying to remove the wheel speed sensors completely? I just unclipped the wire from the upper control arm and laid it off to the side but I left it in its lot I never took it completely out of the vehicle

Is $1,260 for both upper control arms DS and PS and alignment reasonable for this on these cars? $547 labor, $273 per arm, $130 align.

They can be torqued unloaded but you're supposed to try to put a little tension on them
@@FordBossMe Thank you for the reply. I will do that when I replace the control arm.

When installing the new upper control arm and tightening the ball joint do I have to use the Allen key to hold it? Or just snug it up?
