@@InternetDude Hi. I own a Towncar and a Marauder and I wish I would have seen your video before. I teach automotive electronics emissions but I'm an electronic engineer and I used to design circuitry for Westinghouse. What normally goes bad on any of those modules are electrolytic capacitors and in this case they are little silver and black round can like things. Since these are surface mount components, you take a pair of needle nose and twist them off and the solder pads will be exposed. Observe the polarity when you pull them off.You then solder in the same value capacitors and you can get them on Ebay or any electronic supply house for about 7 to 10 dollars for all of them. They will look a little different but you just take a solder pencil and dip a little solder on each pad and then stick the cap right on the heated pads. There are youtube videos showing you how to do this with TV modules which are the same principle. The other thing that can fail are the relays and a simple resistance check of the primary winding can tell if those are open. BTW, beautiful car you have.
@@InternetDude since you change the door module well it be the same code or be a different code on the module for the outside entry or do you use the outside door entry cold on the module
Thanks. Since it's my own car I had all the time in the world to research and repair, I was not rushed. Most mechanics want your car in and out as fast as possible to make maximum profit.
I had the same exact weird things happening with my car and based on that, I ordered the part as specified. It worked like a champ and saved me probably $600+ dollars not to mention the time it takes to get an appointment at a car dealer. Many thanks!
I just picked up a 2007 signature. Here are the things that do not work: seats (motors are good), locking vehicle from either a fob or driver side, interior lights, when opening the door (they work when locking the door with the key) -- this so far. Is there a major control box for the seats somewhere that we're not finding. We've pull the passenger seat out looked at the wiring for the panel on the passenger door out. Looked at the little box. The 30 circuit breaker is good. Really at a loss on how to get this electrical stuff working.
I just bought the exact same doel and color TC from a nice lady in Albuquerque. It has a whopping 212000 miles but runs and drives and looks like a NEW CAR. I am so happy.
As someone who has this exact car and who's running into the same issues your vid really just saved me so much time effort and money thank you so much for taking the time to care, fix, and upkeep these old panther platforms 💪
Thank you for your video! I have the same car with the same electrical issues. I had 2 "professionals " tell me they couldn't fix it. Because of your very clear, step by step vehicle, I knew right away how to get my locks, etc. To work. I installed the new module today, and now everything on my car works. Thank you for making this very good, we'll explained, video.
I have a town car limousine, and sometimes the remote works. Sometimes it doesn’t and the fact that the locks don’t work automatically is a hassle when getting people in and out of limousine so I’ve got a hunt that car down the card part.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You just saved me $600+. Dealer wanted $528 for the part plus $200 labor. I bought the part on Ebay for $100 then followed your clear and simple instructions with no problem. Only took about a half hour. Again many thanks!!!!!
Thank you very much for this very informative video. Your explanations are clear and well-paced for all of us to follow. My 2007 Towncar Signature is having problems identical to the ones yours had. I took it to my mechanic and he couldn't figure out what needed to be fixed; so he recommended that I take it to a Ford Dealer! I will follow your lead and save myself a ton of money. A million thanks.
I was having this exact problem with my 04 Town Car, thanks to your advice I grabbed a door module from an 04 Town Car Ultimate (mine is a Signature) from the local self service junk yard and it worked perfectly, all functions have returned to normal. Thank you very much for this video.
quick tip for those whom wish to not have their door panel flapping like drapery after reattaching panel to the doors: pull the outer edge of the door panel and rotate clockwise so to not break the brackets which 'catch' onto the push pins. Most if not all ageing door panels will break almost every one of the brackets if they are pulled outward against the one way locking pins which are meant to resist such force to begin with. The brackets are designed to catch or hook onto the pinheads... I realize this is difficult but i love upholstery work and i'd like to throw a 'bone' here! My third town car that im begging work on. 2005. Love em!!
Pretty car and great info! Nice yours has a moonroof. I'll never own another car without one! 2006 TC I purchased 5 years ago, did not have keyless entry code. Dealer wanted way too much to obtain it, so I found it with brute force. Made a spreadsheet with every key combination listed and printed it out. It has 3,126 lines. Set a stool next to the door and started punching the buttons. When the door lock finally opened, I was thrilled! No feeling quite like it after punching buttons for half an hour. But, the code turned out to be one programmed by previous owner. Not good enough! Kept punching and found the factory code not much later. Turned out the be the last 3 digits of one line, and first 2 digits of the next. Wasn't expecting that, but hey, I'll take it! 😀 Good luck with your ride. I'm sure you love it as much as I do mine.
Great video, you did a better job of getting the panel off without breaking stuff than I did. :-) I recently installed a never installed NOS module in my 2007 SL that needed to be programmed (it comes in factory mode). I was able to do the dealer programming with FORSCAN after paying $10 for the extended license (no extended license required just to read the code). I made a backup file of the factory DDM programming, wrote it to the new module, ran the onboard self test, and I was off and running. The really cool thing is the procedure carried the original code over to the new module.
Thanks for the input on the issue! I discovered one broken clip on the panel when I took it off and I'm sure it was broken before me. I have an OBD dongle on it's way to me, and I plan on experimenting with FORScan to retrieve my keyless entry code next week. Out of curiosity, what was the part # of the DDM that you bought (NOS one)?
@@InternetDude Funny you should ask that. The module that came out of the car was the same model number you pulled from yours. The one that went in was 6WIT-13C791-BB, which I'm assuming went in later Signature Limiteds but worked just fine in mine. The newer part number was listed in Alldatadiy.com as the correct one for my car, so that's what I searched for. I'm guessing it would probably work in any 2006-11 and is what dealers had on their shelves at the end of production. A Ford dealer in Michigan that sells old stock on ebay had it. Here's the video where I learned the backup procedure. th-cam.com/video/4Z4pX4XREXM/w-d-xo.html This guy has lots of FORSCAN videos. If you ever have to program a new key you can also do that with FORSCAN.
That's a nice Town Car. My 2000 there was a manual but no card saying what the factory code was and I just never bothered with it, my "new" 2006 has the card in the manual and now I realize how handy it can be.
This is very helpful. Ive got an 07 designer with locks and mirrors and drivers seat randomly not working..then working.. i was about to pull whats left of my hair out but it all makes sense now 👍
It sounds exactly like DDM, mine was intermittent for like a day or two and then konked out. For you, find a DDM out of a 06 or 07 Signature Limited or Designer model. Base Signature will not be enough for you. Good luck!
2005 lincoln town car having a fit and can anyone help?car turns on instantly but like if car is on gear idling at a traffic light it all of a sudden it feels like engine misfires.and no check engine light and that's kinda strange to me and this issue of car misfires does not do it all the time
Same here. Got an '07 Designer as well. Ordered a unit from eBaywith the same part number as yours. No provenance noted but hoping it's an at least "L" model. From now on, any '06 & '07's I find at the Pick 'n Pull, I'm grabbing those units as well as LCM's. Could NOT find that part online from various Lincoln parts outlets...in fact, didn't even see it in a diagram. Part number didn't even pull up. Sad when people want to keep these old rigs running (mine has 40K miles) and electronic parts get hard to come by.
My door handle the plastic trim around the handle on my 2010 Lincoln Town Car. I ordered the replacement door handle trim drivers side but your video showed me how the door panel comes off..and I learned about the door module as well. I'm im Ontario Canada btw I believe your also Canadian! Thanks for a well made video Sir. 😎👍
To keep the bezel on the door release handle from breaking, push on the bottom rear corner of the bezel with your thumb when pulling on the inside door handle.
I had the same problem on my 2007. The dealer replaced that module and one other -- total cost about $1200. They still made the modules then. I found a place online that will rebuild them and I'm thinking of having my old ones done. You reminded me of that. Thanks for your efforts. One other thing is this happened when my battery was at the end of its life -- maybe the low battery caused the trouble?
A low battery can cause issues with modules for sure. I have not heard of DDM rebuild service but I have for the Light Control Module LCM. Personally I’d rather get a good used part first choice. I have a spare LCM and blower module now just to have on hand.
Awesome walkthrough for the door panel! Thanks so much. Just got a 07 towncar limited signature and I just the love car. It has a problem where the seat doesn’t move forwards and backwards, and sometimes when I let the car sit overnight the drivers seat will move all the way forwards. Hoping it’s not this and just a power sweat switch.
Hmmm that's strange behavior, I haven't heard of the seat moving all the way forwards. Do you have issues with anything else? Keyless entry, power mirrors, etc.?

The key pad code was located on different places depending on the year, and in some years it is not printed anywhere (except the card in the owners manual if it still exists).
God bless you sir. This video just blessed my life and saved me $700!!!! And that would have been for the repair shops USED module. Just as a additional thought…..if you get a donor module from the junk yard and you get to pull it yourself check the truck arm for the code. Ford used to do that on the older Lincoln’s in the 90’s. Not sure if these have it too but it’s worth a shot!!!!
Glad to help! Some earlier years of cars the models would fit all models from that year or even other years. Not so much on the newer Town Cars. Check the link in the description for more information on year compatibility. Cheers!
I had the same issues and figured out it might be the DDM, but I am not mechanically inclined, so I took it to a Lincoln dealer. They immediately warned me this could be a costly fix because it could be a short anywhere in the car and it might take a long time to fix. They hooked it up to their diagnostic system and then told me many codes were listed - trunk release issue, power door locks, etc. This I already knew because I had made a list of things that did not work. After this initial diagnostic scan, they strongly advised that I take the car elsewhere to see if someone else could locate the problem because "it could get very expensive" and Lincoln no longer makes OEM parts and they clearly did not want to get involved. When I returned to pick up the car, I started the car and all the items on my list that did not work now worked fine. I am not sure if after they did the scan they checked to see if just running the scan fixed all the issues. Maybe when they used the diagnostic scan it reprogramed or reset the DDM??? For now, I will just run the car and hope it doesn't occur, but if it does this video and instruction is excellent and will take care of this fix myself. Thanks
Same set of problems, I had been hunting for a used DDM for a few months.. This morning I went out into the driveway, and everything worked! Got where I was going, used the key fob to lock the car. Came back out to drive home and nothing worked again.... lol I'm convinced I have a bad wire in the loom that connects to the door. If I'm right, Its either the power supply or the ground. I don't have time for it today, but I'll be in the driveway next weekend with the door panel off and multimeter in hand!
So I just bought a 07 signature limited as well. My question is if the ddm is the issue, could it also drain your battery? I have a new battery and alternator is good. Yes, some of the things you mentioned such as power mirrors and seats would sometimes work and just quit. My trunk also doesn’t work but didn’t know you can hold the trunk button to open and close the trunk. Thank you for the video.
I have an ‘09 signature Limited, and the trunk stopped working from the button and remote. I checked fuses, but they were fine. I am thinking maybe this also may be my problem. Anyway, great video! Thanks for posting!
Good information. I own an '05 Signature that I just got a little over a year ago and want to know all I can about it. The door code is supposed to be on those modules, so I was told. I am without a code (no card inside my owners manual) and was told that's where I would find it. So you should be able to get the code off of module #3 for unlocking the doors? But thanks for the video here.
@@InternetDude Really? That's not what is out there, even here on YT. But I appreciate your feedback. The dealer wanted $60 over a year ago to retrieve it and I had to make appointment and come back another time. The amount wasn't the problem it was the appointment thing. How long would it take to get it from a computer? So I'll check your way out. Thanks.
The code is sometimes on a sticker on the module and sometimes on a sticker on the trunk lid hinge but it depends on the year of your car and the module. Mine is an 07 and the code is only internal, I think it was 05 when they made that change.
Excellent approach to a complex problem..I basically have a mayor issue that is making me crazy and some times had made he wonder if I should've not gotten this car..but I love it with passion already..it's hard to explain but I'll try..when I turn the car off..and if I forget to lock it with the remote..20 minutes later..the locks that raise up on the doors start locking and unlocking..loking and unlocking..locking and unlocking in a eternal never ending cycle until the battery dies(it has happened already twice in 3 years that I owned my princess)..ohhh It's an Executive L 2011..I don't know where that issue comes from..but now that I see this video..I might makes sense..yes some times the motor to push the driver sit to up and down doesn't wanna work..if I buy a new module too bad that just a week ago I paid to finally get the access code on the door..
You can retrieve the door access code using FORscan software (free trial) and use a computer to connect with an ELM 327 adapter. Very cheap option to get the code, see the description.
Thank you so much. This saved me from buying a DDM with just same part number. But I wonder if you can just buy a DDM from a different trim and use FORSCAN to fix it.
Hello! Enjoyed your video very much. Regarding the keypad code, do you have to know and enter the code that came from the car of the replacement circuit board from, or do you need to know and enter the code that came with this car? Thank you.
The keypad entry code is stored in that module. If you change the module the code changes to whatever is stored in it. If you put in a used module like I did, you will have to use a computer to access the code. If you go to a dealership and they put in a brand new part, it's possible for them to re-load the brand new module with your old code. Hope that helps.

I have a 1999 TC that the seat don't move, rear windows don't work, trunk is temperamental, and AC needs replacement. I'm wondering if it pays to invest the money to fix those or just drive it till it dies.
Definitely keep fixing it! This past week I replaced the blower motor, a blend door actuator and the light control module on my car. Next week it’s going to the mechanic to replace the A/C accumulator. All in I will have spent close to a grand in repairs but the car will basically be perfect. It’s worth every penny to me, Just keep chipping away at the repairs and you will want to keep the car longer the better condition it’s in. These cars are a lot easier and cheaper to fix compared to German cars 😉
i red somewhere this units may have a solder joint issue did you try to resolder the lines ? or looking at it over a magnifier ?? my remote sometimes does not work do you think it can get worst over time?? should i worry about replacing it ??
My code in my 1988 T-Bird and my 2010 Lincoln Town Car were both hand done with either black marker pen pr paint. Look for a 5 digit number up near the hinges or corners.
Great info. thanks for the Video. I can't say that I have the same problem. But whenever I have issues with remote door lock or dome lights wouldn't turn off, I had to just give it a good wet spray with WD40 into the driver-side door lock latch. I think it's a moisture related issue, I have this issue only on rainy wet soaking day. I think there's few electrical leads there - I never took it apart - can't confirm this. But It always seems to fix the issue for me. Luckily, it only occurred to me few times in the past 5 years. it's a 2002 TC base model. I got her from a 93 year old gentlemen - 90ish K miles. In my opinion, Towncar is lots of car for NOT a lot of $$$..
Can the data board be exchanges.from the old module to the new module to eliminate dealer coding? I did that with my speedometer module worked out great
I’m having some of the same issues with my 2003 Lincoln town car but my windshield wipers not working either, had to unplug my horn fuse because my alarm kept goin off, now my windshield wipers not working doors ajar keep comin on and inside lights while driving
I have a 2007 tc same model as your's with the same problem. If you know of any parts stores that I can purchase a module from, it would be appreciated.
Best bet is a junkyard, same year car and same trim level (e.g. Signature Limited). eBay could be a source too. Auto parts stores do not carry this at all.
Hello sir, I have a 2000 lincoln towncar Cartier everything in my car works that the DDM controls. Windows, locks, mirrors, keyless entry keypad, seats, etc. Except my both keyfobs don't work I replaced battery's to a original backup I had put away and a aftermarket one still nothing. So I figured my DDM that controls the keyfobs is faulty. Now my local salvage doesn't have any 98-02 models towncars so I'm leaning towards a 2001 mercury grand marquis ls ddm. Would you think that would work so far my research has led me to believe it will. Thoughts???
As long as the Grand Marquis has the same options I think it will work (full power trunk, etc). Also, check out the link in the description for more details.
@@InternetDude thank you yea I believe the grand marquis has power trunk. The ddm from the grand marquis is slightly different but I'm hoping it will be plug n play. Hopefully the male connectors match up with the marquis female slots
I have a problem with the interior lighting of a 2008 Ford Marquis that does not work with the doors open. Do I need to replace the same part that you replaced??
Check your fuses. If you have the problems like I mentioned in the video it may be a DDM problem, usually you have more than just one problem when the DDM fails.
i am wondering if i get the board reflow the solder joints would it fix it I have looked and i don't see any broken joints with a magnifier glass, but it has a coating on it , i think it could be reflowed to save it what do you think ??
I looked closely at my board and did not see any obvious defects. I think it would be hard to DIY re-flow the solder but may be possible with some research on how to best do that.
Hi. I have a 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. Went I open my car door my security light don't work and when I crank my car and drive my interior lights stays on when I drive the car. After I get finishing driving the car my interior I stays on for a good while but it's goes out. Could that be the door module?
I have a 2011 Lincoln town car executive l and my power seats stop working and the trunk and gas release buttons stops also I changed the model 2 times already and nothing yet any other suggestions?
My DDM does not work on my 2002. If I remove it to get the part number and how it looks, will the car still run without it? The seats and locks, etc already do not work. I see that there are different versions with the same part number. So I have to take out the old one first before looking for a replacement.
See the link in the description for more specific help on the difference between years, part numbers etc. With 2002 I believe you can get one out of any 2002 model and possibly other years. The newer cars are much more specific.
I saw another video that showed the code for the door being on the module? Not sure but it might be worth trying some of the numbers either imbedded in the alphanumeric barcode or the set of numbers all the way at the bottom of the sticker? 14:02:14? Maybe that’s 14214?
No that wasn't the code. In earlier years the code is on a sticker in the trunk hinge arm, on some other years it was printed on a sticker on the module. For about 2006-newer the code is not visible anywhere, can only be retrieved using a computer scan tool.
Wonder if you know the problem with my 2003 Lincoln town. It keep drain battery while engine off. I have replaced new alternator. If I leave my car over night the battery completely died could not even jump start or recharge the battery. I took my car to repair shop the diagnosis they said faulty light control Module but I don’t think that’s the problem
Can this also mess with the interior lights? Making them either stay on OR flicker on and off along with the door ajar warning light and dinger? Checked all the wiring, replaced the door latch switches and had the Lighting Control Module rebuild. I went from the lights staying on to now they do the flicker thing. Frustrated.....
This is a great informative video. I am having similar issues but only my cruise control and heated seat does not work. Everything else works. I checked fuses. They were all good. Is this my next step I assume?
The cruise not working is likely unrelated. I would check relays, wiring, connectors and grounds next. Also make sure the fuse is getting power. Best guess is a bad heating element or relay.
Is the keyless enter number code available inside the door anywhere? I have a 2006 Town Car Designer series myself but don't have the code, I called my local Ford dealership and they want $100 to give me the number.
On your 2006 it is not likely inside the door. On older like 98-03 era cars the code is on the DDM module itself. If you have a laptop, an OBD tool, and FORscan software you can retrieve the code yourself.
@@InternetDude we went to Banff is our furthest. And the charging so far has been great. No issues other than one petro was broken again of time but we new about it. Just had to use a 50kw charger instead of the 150kw
I'll add my 'great video' to the others because I just bought a 2001 Town Car Cartier that has non-working sections: driver seat (lumbar works though), power mirrors, etc. I found a replacement with the exact Ford part number that was remanufactured and with a 90 days warranty. I am waiting for its arrival and will see if that will cure all the problems. Was this a 'design flaw' that wasn't caught by the engineers for many years? I just wondered what you think. Thanks again for a fantastic, point-by-point video!!
I don't think it was designed to fail, but putting a module in the driver door means it gets slammed around every single time the door gets opened and closed. That is extreme abuse, they should have put the DDM not inside the door in my opinion.
Would you happen to have the signature module laying around still and be willing to sell it? MY grandmothers car is doing the exact same thing...I hooked up my scan tool and it has very low voltage...8.6 when running and 7.4 with the key off. When the key is off its not enough to power the module and its completely dead.
If anyone can help , I want to know where is the receiver AC in the DDM board , that is for receiving the keyfob signal 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I think its burned but I can tell which one is it
I have the same problem. My part number is 6W1T-13C791-BB on my 07 town car signature series. If I get a used one with the very same part number will I have to have it programed by a dealer or will it just work.
Random question maybe no one knows the answer to but here we go. I have a signature limited 2006 and the window switch for the driver side keeps failing but when i change the switch out it works for 3 months then stops working again.. the auto window function doesn't work and when you try to use it the window doesn't go down at all but if you slightly hit the button it works fine.. could that be a bad door module or is there any test I should run to try and pin point this problem?
Just a thought but check the wires in the driver door jamb, perhaps a couple of wires have broken insulation and are shorting out. Those wires get flexed every time the door is opened so over time they can break.
-Same DDM associated problems for a 2007 Town Car Signature Limited. However, the DDM developed a problem after the car was left out in a heavy rain and water collected on the passenger side rear floor also. The car eventually dried out* - and the DDM problem resolved. *(Damp Rid) The car now needs to be resealed - both the windshield wiper/drain area and the inside of the driver door. QUESTION: How to seal the inside of the driver door and the windshield wiper/drain areas? Note also, if a DDM fails, then things that happen to be in the trunk are inaccessible. As a stop-gap, a pull line apparently can be run through the back seat to open the trunk using the interior release w/o the DDM.
Mine is having an issue where the power windows, radio, clock, etc all work even without a key in the ignition. My driver's door does not trigger the interior lights when opened. It's a 1997 Town Car. Anyone know what can cause these issues?
Thank you so much!! This worked for me but I’m not sure if the keyless entry alarm chirp not working is because of the DdM or not. Any way, I have a 03 signature and I went to the junk yard and grabbed a 02 signature and I got the code from that car. Your original code will no longer work

No you either have a trans issue (unlikely) or a coil pack is failing. You need an advanced scan tool to watch the misfire counts as you drive. Then swap the coil pack from the cylinder with the misfires with another one and go for a drive again. If the misfires go to the other cylinder then replace one coil pack with a brand new part from the dealer. Do not replace all coil packs and don’t buy aftermarket ones. My car actually does something similar and I found misfires even though the check engine light is not on and it otherwise runs good.

@@moviegoer9021 This is a semi-common Ford thing, nothing unusual, I've experienced it too. Google Ford Mode $06 Misfire Count for details. I'm like 99% sure you need one new coil pack but I can't tell you which one. You can DIY with your own laptop and a free program called ForScan.org and an adapter you can buy for cheap from Amazon. Some more info here www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1674714-forscan-misfire-counts.html - also you can use some handheld scan tools as well it doesn't have to be a laptop.
Pause the video at 0:29 to see what is and isn't affected by the DDM driver door module. The heated seat button on my trim level does not appear to be connected to the DDM, however the seat moving back (easy entry exit) was. Your year and trim level may differ slightly.
I have a friend with a 2003 Lincoln Town Car who is looking for this exact replacement part. In the drop down menu there's no listing for DDM or DCM. What term did you use when searching?
I removed the module, door locks stopped setting the alarm off,the only thing i really need is the trunk will not open ,the gas door opens, not worried about the rest ,its a 2004 lincoln i did not see a place for a key,in the trunk i only have the ignition key,how can i get into the trunk
good diag here, solved one of my problems, the other problem is the buzzing from the relays under the dash and under the hood with lights off. Buzzer turns off with lights on, but timed lights and lights off, buzzzzzzz, starting to annoy me.
Can someone help me please, my 2008 town car won’t start or even crank, no visible power other then the anti theft alarm is stuck permanently on instead of blinking ? It’s got a brand new battery and it won’t even crank so I doubt it’s the alternator. Went to start the car the other day and the lights and seats when crazy going on and off, powered seats moving forward and back without even being touched. Please help
Create video mine is acting up to but my lights stay on on the inside and says door jar to everybody says it's a sensor on the door latch itself on the driver's side is there any way you can make a video on how to replace that as a 2003 Lincoln town car signature great video it did help me a lot on how to take the door panel off and that Box that Box that you replace I'm probably have to replace it too Does I have to be programmed
To my knowledge as long as you get the module from another 2003 Town Car it should swap in with no need for programming. If you buy a brand new module it would need to be programmed. I believe yes the door ajar switch is inside the door latch mechanism so it may need replacement. What you could try is spraying and soaking the door latch with degreaser and then WD40 to try and clean it up if it is just dirty inside.
@@InternetDude Yeah I got no junkyards nowhere near me and it was a junkyard part in there and what my car is doing is the door locks are going up-and-down while I'm driving and everybody says everybody says it's the sensor and the door latch which I agree but it shouldn't be doing all the other stuff So I think it's a combo it just started doing that and now I could shut the door and the lights go off so it's doing it all on and off it's confusing and you can't buy the part it's discontinued discontinued I looked everywhere the part number I got off mine is3W1T- 13C791-AH
We have a 2002 Signature and the issue we are having started with the lights coming on when stopping, or on/off at random times while driving, and the door ajar light comes on and dings. Did some research and it sounded like a lock issue so we sprayed some white lithium in the door locks and worked them all quite a bit. Helped some but still had symptoms at times. Recently the problem is the lights do not shut off when we get out of the car and close the door and my husband has resorted to disconnecting the battery cable so it does not drain the battery. The locks have worked fine since the lithium spray, but I will check the other things now because I am wondering if this might be the issue now. Wonderful, informative video! Thank you!
@@InternetDude Thank you! I did pull the door module and I have a replacement coming and we will try that. If that doesn't take care of it I will move onto the LCM control. I questioned my husband closer and he said the locks as well as the lights were still acting up. Locks not able to lock while driving and the lights on/off when driving and then not shutting off once he gets out of the car. I kept the part case I have to put it back. Do you get lock issues and such when the LCM control fails?
As an owner of a panther platform car I appreciate you taking the time to make this helpful video.👊 🇨🇦

This guy is better than most mechanics I know.
Thanks. Since it's my own car I had all the time in the world to research and repair, I was not rushed. Most mechanics want your car in and out as fast as possible to make maximum profit.
Agreed
I had the same exact weird things happening with my car and based on that, I ordered the part as specified. It worked like a champ and saved me probably $600+ dollars not to mention the time it takes to get an appointment at a car dealer. Many thanks!
Right on! I never realized how common this problem was until I put up this video, I am not alone!!
Thanks for the video. Look for a small sticker on the trunk hinge or under the hood or door jamb. That's the door code. Have a great day.
Passenger side trunk hinge. Should be a white sticker on it with black numbers. That’s the door code!
A huge thank you to my friend up north. You saved me on this one! I was having the exact same electrical issues.
I just bought the exact same doel and color TC from a nice lady in Albuquerque. It has a whopping 212000 miles but runs and drives and looks like a NEW CAR. I am so happy.
Sweet! I have a quick tour video of mine, it has about 50K miles.
how much did you get it for?
My ‘09 TC has 360,000 miles. Going strong!
As someone who has this exact car and who's running into the same issues your vid really just saved me so much time effort and money thank you so much for taking the time to care, fix, and upkeep these old panther platforms 💪
Glad it helped
Good info, I just bought a Town Car and Im watching videos on them.
👍
WHERE DID YOU GET THE MODULE?
I have a town car limousine, and sometimes the remote works. Sometimes it doesn’t and the fact that the locks don’t work automatically is a hassle when getting people in and out of limousine so I’ve got a hunt that car down the card part.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You just saved me $600+. Dealer wanted $528 for the part plus $200 labor. I bought the part on Ebay for $100 then followed your clear and simple instructions with no problem. Only took about a half hour. Again many thanks!!!!!
Awesome that does sound like typical dealer pricing
Thank you very much for this very informative video. Your explanations are clear and well-paced for all of us to follow. My 2007 Towncar Signature is having problems identical to the ones yours had. I took it to my mechanic and he couldn't figure out what needed to be fixed; so he recommended that I take it to a Ford Dealer! I will follow your lead and save myself a ton of money. A million thanks.
Glad it was helpful! If you take it to the dealer it will be a very expensive trip.
i also have a 2007 signature with power locks not working, and i also have a question
I was having this exact problem with my 04 Town Car, thanks to your advice I grabbed a door module from an 04 Town Car Ultimate (mine is a Signature) from the local self service junk yard and it worked perfectly, all functions have returned to normal. Thank you very much for this video.
Right on! I’ve been surprised at how many people have had DDM problems, but it can be a relatively easy fix.
quick tip for those whom wish to not have their door panel flapping like drapery after reattaching panel to the doors: pull the outer edge of the door panel and rotate clockwise so to not break the brackets which 'catch' onto the push pins. 2005. Love em!!
Yes those clip holders can break easily on older cars! Mine has one broken clip mount.
Good luck with your ride. I'm sure you love it as much as I do mine.
Thanks for the comment
Good luck!
@@InternetDude What about for a 2008 Signature Limited?

I ordered the replacement door handle trim drivers side but your video showed me how the door panel comes off..and I learned about the door module as well.
@@InternetDude That could have been the LCM. I better check that out. Thanks again and good job fixing that yourself. Very impressive!

Thanks
you can't reprogram a DDM, it can only be programmed once.
Same set of problems, I had been hunting for a used DDM for a few months.. This morning I went out into the driveway, and everything worked!
Got where I was going, used the key fob to lock the car. Came back out to drive home and nothing worked again.... lol
I'm convinced I have a bad wire in the loom that connects to the door. If I'm right, Its either the power supply or the ground. I don't have time for it today, but I'll be in the driveway next weekend with the door panel off and multimeter in hand!
Thanks for sharing! Glad you fixed it!

In theory I think it could drain the battery if some device does not turn off correctly

Thanks man! This is the smoothest riding vehicle I've ever owned, even smoother than my Lexus. Old school luxury :-)
The code is internal in the module and you need a computer to read it, check out forscan.org that’s what I used
@@InternetDude Really? That's not what is out there, even here on YT. But I appreciate your feedback. The dealer wanted $60 over a year ago to retrieve it and I had to make appointment and come back another time. The amount wasn't the problem it was the appointment thing. How long would it take to get it from a computer? So I'll check your way out. Thanks.
The code is sometimes on a sticker on the module and sometimes on a sticker on the trunk lid hinge but it depends on the year of your car and the module. Mine is an 07 and the code is only internal, I think it was 05 when they made that change.
You need an OBD adapter and the free software to retrieve the code should take under a half hour

You cannot program any used DDMs, only brand new ones direct from Ford. If you can find the right spec of used one it will work just fine.
I believe there's a sticker in the hinges on trunk for code numbers for doors? Or look in the manual book.
It depends on the year, they stopped putting the code in any printed location other than the card in the owners manual.

Another great video.

Great job, thanks. Did you look at the fuse panel to the left of your feet? My door program code was on this panel.
I did not. Some years had the code printed on the DDM and some years with it printed on the trunk hinge. Different years had different things.

The door switch may be in the door latch mechanism, my same-era F150 was like that.
Can the data board be exchanges.from the old module to the new module to eliminate dealer coding? I did that with my speedometer module worked out great
No the electronic board inside is what goes bad
Could you not use "FOREScan" to program the Executive module to work in your car?
You can program a brand new module, but you can't reprogram a used one. It can only be programmed a single time.
I’m having some of the same issues with my 2003 Lincoln town car but my windshield wipers not working either, had to unplug my horn fuse because my alarm kept goin off, now my windshield wipers not working doors ajar keep comin on and inside lights while driving

Does the power module affect forward and back control for seat?
yes
Check out that link, it has some year-specific information.
YES IT HAS A COATING CAN BE REMOVED BUT HARD TO REPAIR MOST LIKELY @@InternetDude
Hi. I have a 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. Went I open my car door my security light don't work and when I crank my car and drive my interior lights stays on when I drive the car. After I get finishing driving the car my interior I stays on for a good while but it's goes out. Could that be the door module?
I’m not familiar with that car so I can’t say if it’s the door module.
@@InternetDude Thanks. I appreciate it.
Very helpful!!! Thank you for a great video!!
Glad it was helpful!
I have a 2011 Lincoln town car executive l and my power seats stop working and the trunk and gas release buttons stops also I changed the model 2 times already and nothing yet any other suggestions?
Check the fuses and wiring (connectors), check the wires in the door jamb.
@@InternetDude you said computer scan tool, do you mean the scanner that you use for check engine light
@@ninbendoyt3203 Kind of, but more advanced software, look up ForScan.org
Wonder if you know the problem with my 2003 Lincoln town. It keep drain battery while engine off. I have replaced new alternator. If I leave my car over night the battery completely died could not even jump start or recharge the battery. I took my car to repair shop the diagnosis they said faulty light control
Module but I don’t think that’s the problem
oh yeah it could be the light control module, it could be drawing power even when the car is off
Can this also mess with the interior lights? Making them either stay on OR flicker on and off along with the door ajar warning light and dinger? Checked all the wiring, replaced the door latch switches and had the Lighting Control Module rebuild. I went from the lights staying on to now they do the flicker thing. Frustrated.....
Yes, pause the video at 0:31 to see the list of what is affected. Interior lights is on the list!
@InternetDude does it effect the head lights signal lights
This is a great informative video. I am having similar issues but only my cruise control and heated seat does not work. Everything else works. I checked fuses. They were all good. Is this my next step I assume?
The cruise not working is likely unrelated. I would check relays, wiring, connectors and grounds next. Also make sure the fuse is getting power. Best guess is a bad heating element or relay.
@@InternetDude thanks man appreciate the info
My wipers wont turn off, any hints? My trunk opens occassionally on its own too.

Great work
Thanks! How's that Mach E treating you? Any issues yet?
One minor switch broke for the 4 way mirrors took 3 days to get the part and a 15min fix other than that we have 10000km on it and are loving it

I have 07 signature limited identical to that 98k miles love it
Would you happen to have the signature module laying around still and be willing to sell it? MY grandmothers car is doing the exact same thing...I hooked up my scan tool and it has very low voltage...8.6 when running and 7.4 with the key off. When the key is off its not enough to power the module and its completely dead.
Hi, no I sold it on eBay.
GOOD VIDEO. That's definitely my problem too.

If anyone can help , I want to know where is the receiver AC in the DDM board , that is for receiving the keyfob signal 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I think its burned but I can tell which one is it
I'm not sure
I have the same problem. My part number is 6W1T-13C791-BB on my 07 town car signature series.
If I get a used one with the very same part number will I have to have it programed by a dealer or will it just work.
Watch the video, you can’t just match part numbers, used modules can’t be reprogrammed.
@@InternetDude Well if I buy a brand new one from Ford, will it have to be programed or will it work right out of the box.
You will need to have the dealer program it to your car. $100 for a used one or $500 for a new one, your choice.
@@InternetDude I'm confused, If I get a used one it will not need to be programed but a new one will and the dealer will have to program it.
Correct
Thank you man this just happen today to me
Random question maybe no one knows the answer to but here we go.
Will this drivers door fix if you get door ajar for passenger door
I don't believe so
-Same DDM associated problems for a 2007 Town Car Signature Limited.
However, the DDM developed a problem after the car was left out in a heavy rain and water collected on the passenger side rear floor also.
The car eventually dried out* - and the DDM problem resolved. *(Damp Rid)
The car now needs to be resealed - both the windshield wiper/drain area and the inside of the driver door.
The Town Car forum at LincolnsOnline.com has info on sealing the cowl, do not use RTV it is messy there is an adhesive seal I used.
Can you use a part from a higher trim like Designer and use it on Signature?
You should be able to use a DDM from a car with more features than your car, yes.
Is there a way to know what's the DDM number without taking the door apart?
Not that I’m aware of
Mine is having an issue where the power windows, radio, clock, etc all work even without a key in the ignition.
Your original code will no longer work
The keyless entry is handled by the DDM you may want to reprogram your remotes

No you either have a trans issue (unlikely) or a coil pack is failing. You need an advanced scan tool to watch the misfire counts as you drive. Then swap the coil pack from the cylinder with the misfires with another one and go for a drive again. If the misfires go to the other cylinder then replace one coil pack with a brand new part from the dealer. Do not replace all coil packs and don’t buy aftermarket ones. My car actually does something similar and I found misfires even though the check engine light is not on and it otherwise runs good.

Thank you!
There is also a LCM light control module that would be something else to investigate.
