Crossing into DENMARK [S3 - Eps 2]

  • In this episode I am quickly crossing the border from Germany into Denmark. I am on my way to Hirtshals in Denmark, where I can catch the boat to Iceland! It's a rainy day, but luckily, it was dry for a short period so I could explore some viking history at the quaint Danish town of Jelling. Lots of motorcycling in the rain later, I reached my destination for the day.

Me and my wife had rain from Genova to the danish border. We stopped in Lugano (northen italy) for three days to wait it out but no. It rained ALL THE TIME, NO BREAKS! The tent and the clothes never got dry. It was quite miserable. Being a Swede I´ve seen the most of Denmark but Noralys friends are from all over the world. For them it´s new turf. Regards to You all! Yes it´s nice to see Itchy Boots on the road again. I´ve really missed her!

Great to see a biker who doesn't mind driving in the rain...Last week I drove from Wolverhampton to Chesterfield in the worst down pour I have experienced on the BMW R100GS (1990) in 35 years of all weather biking...There was 2 ft (60cm) flooding in 3 areas enroute...Traffic had come to a standstill and I even witnessed a Range Rover stranded with hazard lights on and a few other cars abandoned...I managed to drive thru every flood on the bike, the worst one was actually up to my ankles on the footpegs covering both cylinder heads ,was pretty scary when the clutch started to slip dramatically in the middle of the floods but gave enough grip to pull me gently to the other side...Water must have found its way into the dry clutch but spun out on exiting the flood within a couple seconds...I got home ok!

It's great to see you back on the road again, and posting vids!
The start of your new journey seems just like the start of all of my long road trips(measured in mere weeks however!); I just keep in mind that I can usually escape the weather if I travel far enough, fast enough and then just get on with it(although sometimes it takes a few days to escape the rain). Dealing with rain really shapes my tire buying preferences, and the one time I decided to get a new to me full-dress tourer(300+ kg) and ride it 1500 km back home, without swapping the tires out; I almost went down crossing an intersection while there was some light rain. If I had put good tires on the bike, I know that would not have happened because I have accidentally popped the front tire up into the air before, while testing out a set of new Michelin Pilot road tires in the rain. And that was on a much lighter Sport tourer without the bags being mounted.
Stay safe out there and have fun!

@@davidc1961utube They saw they made a pretty good living on being grumpy, I guess.
Recently I saw a documentary on Arte where the heavy metal culture was interpreted to have arisen from the Hippies.
…could there be a Viking gene in Hippiedom, that was quietened down in the Vikings that conquered the mediteranean and re-activated when Hippies had spent a couple of centuries up in Northern England? ^^)

Beautiful countryside in Denmark. Those tiny cabins are so cool. Looking forward to Iceland. I love their bottled water ( Icelandic). It tastes so smooth and fresh. Makes the tastiest pour over cup of whole bean coffee. You picked yourself a beautiful, reliable motorcycle. Hope you enjoy years of smooth touring .

I was thinking, "Poor Ronan, having to Soprano @ 140km/h".
I've got a V-Strom 650, that will sit on 140, but I don't sustain more than 110 (5500rpm) for mine and the bikes comfort.
I know the little 471cc twin will do it, and many people on the autobahn cruise at that speed, but I'd have a 1000+cc bike (and shaft drive) if regularly doing it.
      Cheers from Australia.

Ya, lot of followers cheering you on. Rain and rich green geography reminds me of you in places like Tacama Desert and entire days on rock and mud tracks. You will be back in stuff like that up to your boots soon enough so suck up the lush and green and pleasant. One forty... woof. My 69 Triumph Daytona i bought new at 18 topped out at one nineteen... mph. I grew up 20 minutes from Ontario's Mosport Racetrack and learned to ride on it when nobody was around. Probably has something to do with my kidneys now, 50 years later. Adelante IB. (Met a Danish girl in a bar one night in Puno. I was a bit slow on the uptake but she cleared that all up straight away. Treasured times from a joyfully mis spent youth)

A mere 87mph. 153mph(246kph) was fun back in 1981, traffic I passed on the motorway in UK appeared to be stopped or in some cases, going backwards. These are tame times we live in nowadays. Trying not to be distracted by the lights of Rotterdam off to left, while riding 2-up stoned out of my mind on *aki black(careful, PC times), coming back to Amsterdam from Hoorn at night 140mph(225kph), same year. Then from vantage point of the bar we were in, noticing fat rear Pirelli Phantom was flat as a pancake. What drew my vision to rear wheel was a large rat passing by it. On edge of a canal. Equiv of Dutch AA came out. First chap parked his Renault4? van, didn`t put his handbrake on. His mate in another van gave him a friendly nudge and a mad scramble ensued to stop runaway van. They wouldn`t take a guilder off me, bless them...and a total stranger bought my mate and I a drink. Is Holland still that friendly, not been back, since the ferry very nearly sank in a Force 9 on that night trip back from The Hook to Harwich. What an experience to end our two weeks packed adventure in Holland! Enough to write a book.

Glad to see I’m not the only traveller that goes the wrong way even on sat nav Noraly! I have just bought a beeline sat nav, no spoken directions, just an arrow for guidance with left dot and right dot for turns. Explore option would suit you, arrow points to destination and you pick your own route! Unit is waterproof, shockproof and battery charge lasts 30 hours!
