- Today I take you through the story of the Saviors reign in The Walking Dead Universe, and their crossing of paths with Rick Grimes in the second of three videos in what I'm dubbing "The Savior Saga"

I hadn't yet read the comics so watching this arc for the first time I thought the guy in the leather jacket at the outpost really was negan. I was like "Alright awesome problem solved" lol

I wonder what would have happened if the Saviors somehow encountered a victorious Woodbury. I sure would’ve loved to see if the governor would be docile.
That is a really cool thought! Got me thinking about it now haha.
The only problem is they are way too far away from each other. Woodbury was still in Georgia somewhere, and the Sanctuary is in Virginia near DC. Otherwise that would’ve been an awesome story to see play out

A little inconsistency in the writing. Negan is staunchly against murdering children. He even shot one of his top guys for doing so to one child. He has a soft spot for kids. Given that, why was he okay with Simon murdering every Oceanside male over the age of 10? Simon executed several children, and not a word from Negan? Doesn’t make sense.
Right Negan was also going to kill Carl.

It's crazy to think that if Negan was just more reasonable he could've lead everyone pretty well, but then again we'd have no villian, to be honest so many communities fighting togheter against the Whisperers, they'd be wiped out in a matter of days, and well, it would be interesting on how they'd deal with the Commonwealth, but it's just a weird what if really.
p.s: there's a world out there where Negan sends Abraham, Trevor i mean Simon, Daryl etc, so many strong characters to deal with Beta and the Whisperers, i find that so weird.
Abraham, Daryl, and Simon working together would be terrifying. All 3 are intimidating and tough on their own, imagine all 3 ganging up on you 🥶
i Still Think Negan Choosing Abraham Was on Purpose Since he Was The Only One Who Still Had Balls to Stand up & He Was The Big Gun Expert.
Then for Glenn it was Either Because he was The First From His Left or/and That he Was a Great Scout [yes i know it's kinda of Daryl's Fault he died but i still think he would of been next if they messed up later on]
I never understood why they didn't go back and hook a chain to the box truck and drag it out of the water.

Same!!!! 💯 I was so disappointed when Carl died. I stopped watching right after.
I’m taking a hard pause at 27:19 because I feel it needs to be said: a large part of the mess up here for the show was, yes, the cliffhanger, but the absolute graphic nature of Glenn’s death can’t be ignored either.
I remember watching livestreams the evening of that premiere and watching fans go from cheering, to straight up silence, nausea, and trauma. It didn’t help much that they left the reveal to the end, for sure.
I, for one, liked the cliffhanger, controversial as it may be. But given everything the group had gone through that season, killing both Abraham and Glenn in the finale would’ve put much of America in therapy, needfully so.
Yes, they could’ve just shown Abraham in the finale and continued with Glenn in the next premiere, but what I’m saying is that this was peak Game of Thrones time and was still by far the goriest, most graphic thing most people had ever seen on television. Especially for such a beloved character as Glenn, right after his fake out death, it was too much.
That’s why I stopped watching regularly, though I have seen the rest of the series since and watched the spinoffs.

25:59 to the massive mistake the season ending cliffhanger was, I didn't even watch TWD and the memes all over the place were about how "Glenn dies." Needless to say when I did end up watching TWD it was kind of a buzzkill lol

Sometimes I wish Rick would have k*lled Negan in All Our War. I know that he wanted to "rebuild civilization" or whatever, but you can't let Negan go unpunished in a severe way.
People desire their revenge. That might not be a good thing, but it's human nature. By not giving them their revenge, Rick merely delayed the inevitable for a short time, and then the "former" Saviors started getting picked off one by one anyway, which caused a lot of unnecessary tension within the communities.
Nobody really wanted them to integrate into the communities, and why should they? Would we want to be associated with someone who was an accessory to the crime of murdering our friends? Rick was being too high minded about "rehabilitating" these people who only surrendered because they lost, not because their loyalty to Negan faded.
By *only* imprisoning Negan and not any of the literal soldiers who fought against the other communities, Rick cooked up a recipe for disaster. Can we imagine working next to someone who just tried to kill us in a war mere weeks ago?
Ironically, this is how Rick got them into trouble with the Saviors in the first place. He just "knows* something will work out, until it doesn't.
you go by that logic then you wouldn't have had negan save Rick's daughter in a snowstorm. On top of that you wouldn't have knee in there to help in the whisperer wars by killing alpha. In many ways Morgan was right everything gets a return. Every death have a meaning, a purpose. I continue to watch The walking Dead even after that matter of fact I love the fact that they killed Glenn because it made the story better. It made Negan a big bad guy nobody else he could have killed to make that point. I like watching stories and watch it develop unlike some people who's too impatient to wait
but by your logic someone like Negan can be a good person after beating someone to death gleefully Infront of their pregnant wife whilst taunting them. I love Negan, but arguing that he's redeemable is such a dull point. He's the big bad wolf. I think it's arguable to say he's not 1 dimensional, for example having a soft spot for children and not sexually assaulting women, but he's not a good person nonetheless and never will be
Rick should have killed him, that makes sense in all logics except "We guttah make a better worlddd" which isn't applicable to a monster like Negan... It's not like he did a bad thing one time. He's a serial killer who enjoys it lol. The other villains before should be on probation because they sure didn't do worse than Negan. Like the governor should be on 3 meals a day in a cage in the group.
The only argument I can think of it: Negans the big bad wolf and it's sure as sh*t helpful to have him on your side to scare the sh*t out of or kill if needed. Like Maggie saw it when they were outnumbered, so Negan took one of the group and KNOCK KNOCK? WHO'S THERE? BUTTER WHO? BUTTER GET YOUR UMBRELLAS BECAUSE IT'S ABOUT TO GODDAMN RAIN IN HERE!" On them to scare them despite them having more people.
Negan can scare people to their core and is capable of it. That's where he's useful. But he'll always need to be kept on a leash in my head cannon. He'd always need to be leader.
Ricks group killed dozens of them before Negan killed two, so I do think the deaths of Glenn and Abe were actually somewhat warranted. But nonetheless the amount of unredeemable things Negan has done... There's no redemption. Yes he has a soft spot or two and they're fantastic. But it's like trying to redeem a serial killer who only targets a certain group. The need to redeem Negan is silly to me and alwas silly in the show.
But despite that I love JDMs portrayal of Negan so much id watch him no matter what. Im okay with his redemption arc because he has Incredible acting 💯❤
@@Shannon-vv6rr I know it's difficult for most people to wrap their head around. But that's the reality of life. Everyone have redeemable qualities no matter how bad they are. Unless they don't want to be. I say that because every single one of us are capable of doing the worst things to one another because we're human. We choose not to, but we can. Is there some people go down One path and another group of people who do another path. But that path is always wrapped into one another and you can easily cross into it
I figured maggie had to get help cause the one savior that captured her and carol at the outpost, she hit maggie really hard in her stomach during a struggle. I always thought it was cause of that hit.

If the Saviors wanted Gregory's head in S6 how come Simon was cool with him in S7 unless im forgetting something.
It definitely could be a plothole, or alternatively, the outpost saviors were acting on their own authority, bullying the hilltop runners just cause they could, kind of like how the kingdom saviors killed Ben, without negan or Simon’s go ahead directly.
@Swell-Films That's a good point, however Ben is irrelevant compared to Gregory a leader of a community that provides ample food resources to the Saviors. I think it's a major plot hole
Well that's easily explained Simon wasn't the person in charge of that Outpost in the first place. I say that because when he went to hilltop and said that since that Outpost been taken I am your negan now you can go back and watch that when he says it. Which let me know that it wasn't Simon that ordered Gregory's head it was that group at that Outpost. Now who was run by I'm not too clear on it could have been that doctor do that Rick and them to hostage or it could have been that one redhead woman that took Maggie and Carol
@@keithwish3984Good point, similar to other big community m, they would have multiple outposts and people who lead them as secondary leader. Similar to a county and a city. CRM, Portland, Oregon and college would be different, but because of there massive numbers and actual courts, police departments, industry production, wind turbines. Only alexendria had solar panels of the coalition

I'll never forgot I had to work the sunday of TWD premiere when Negan kills both Abe and Glenn. Some piece of shit coworker spoiled it the morning of. I was like "i didnt see it yet--!" I was so mad. My sister tapped out after that episode as well. I watched until the end of the season, but it just got so bad after the Oceanside and Trash people episodes.
If i remember correctly there was a vine star that got to go on set to help promote it and did a vine with Glenn’s “body” and it was up for like a day before taken down
That season was giving A Bug's Life. Like, a lot.
If Rick and the group gunned down Simon and those few other saviors the lineup would have never happened but Negan would still find them but much later.

There is nothing wrong with having multiple wives (in the way that Negan did with no government contracts) even in "The Old World" i.e our World.
People can do that right now.

It is not against any moral or legal law for a Man to have consenting adult women he provides for and has sex with or makes children with.
And literally almost all wives are with their husband's in exchange for provisions making their lives easier and higher quality than in the single wasteland where they have to pay for their own meals and bills. So that does not make Negans Polygyny wrong in his World or ours either.
The only thing wrong with Negans Polygyny is he was engaging in it with other Men's wives i.e Adultery not Polygyny.

What ever happened to Eugene being able to make bullets from scratch. After the Saviors fell it was like everyone just forgot about it and it never came back to use. Maybe I missed it but I am pretty sure we never got an explanation as to why that building was never used again.

How could they bury Glenn he was only a pile guts which a walker ate when Rick drove away from season 7 episode 1
The walker was eating the remnants of their bashed in heads, they carry the body’s away in that scene, presumably loading them up into the vehicle left behind by the saviors, but they skip over an entire week after that episode so we don’t see them actually bury them, just their graves

I think a show about the forming of the saviors would be a great show.
You make plenty of comic book references but why on earth did you decide this time to simply ignore the comics. I am talking about Glenn's demise. His end was inevitable as it happened in the comic and they even reproduced the gore that was left of his face from the comic. They stayed true to that story arc. So it isn't like it wasn't expected. The thing is, it created extreme outrage. They have changed the story line many times so they could have just killed someone else off if they really wanted to but they didn't. So yeah they did it to themselves. I am just wondering why you chose to leave this particular detail completely out of this video considering it's importance to the narrative.

Rick keeping Negan alive was the ultimate botched with this series. He should of killed him with him going out like a solider
Some people might hate me for saying this but on that night when Rick and the group went to the outpost that’s when Rick and the group became villains just think about it. They killed those saviors at night in cold blood but I loved that episode in season 6 but once again another great video! When episode 16 came out dude I was scared me and my grandmother we were scared and all I said was “Glenn isn’t going to make it” my grandmother looked at me. I was surprised when Abraham was first but it should have just been Glenn and no one else. Negan scared me and hearing the whistling now it more scary than Andrea and Shane scene in season 2.
It's a bad take because it means you weren't paying attention.
Rick's group was completely justified in attacking that outpost. They had hostile run-ins with small groups of Saviors and were told on multiple accounts how dangerous the Saviors were and how they subjugate other communities. The only reason why the Saviors hadn't enslaved Alexandria by that point was simply because they haven't found them yet. So for Rick it was either they wait until the Savors find and attack Alexandria or they make the first attack. If your only options in dealing with the Saviors is to fight or be enslaved, choosing to attack doesn't make you the villain.
@@maruwave5389 OK I did pay attention so no need for that but either way yes the group would’ve got caught by Negan no matter what, but there was a video explaining how in the group became the villains of that episode. And don’t say it’s a bad take cause it means you weren’t paying attention. I’ve been watching the show for a very long time and reading the comics.
@@aaronpasetti I know what you're saying, and I used to think that what Rick's group did at the outpost was a villainous thing to do, myself. However, after thinking about it for a while, I changed my mind. Simply because Rick's group took the to the offensive doesn't change the fact that the Saviors were enslaving, extorting, and killing people to enforce their authority, and just because Rick's group used stealth and guile to take out the Saviors at the outpost doesn't make them evil or wrong. A sneaky approach to fighting is one of the best ways to minimize your own losses and to maximize your chances of success. Sure, taking out enemies that are asleep might FEEL bad in a number of ways, but the truth is that taking part in a stand-up fight when you have the option to turn things to your advantage and to keep the largest number of your own people alive is just not something that makes sense.

@@aaronpasetti I see what you mean, but I'm not saying they killed them for the supplies. That was like...an immediate benefit, but they killed them because they knew the Saviors were a group of people that were doing bad stuff to a bunch of other people. If Rick's group didn't really think the Saviors were a cancer that needed to be removed, they certainly wouldn't have killed them just to get some supplies.
The build up to Negan fell flat when a skinny old guy came out completely nonthreatening
The whole Saviour storyline was sh*t, and was the cause of 94% of the audience leaving. They should have skipped ahead to The Whisperers, and paid Steven Yeun whatever was needed to keep him in the show.
