Hello everyone today I will be talking about Negan's character development in The Walking Dead and how he went from one of the biggest villains to one of the main protagonists of the show
I think negan wasnt gonna kill carl but was gonna stop the bat at the last second. I think he wanted to show rick that backing down is the best option.
Exactly! That makes much more sense!
Disagree
Agree but also disagree, I think he could have and would have went through with it but he would have felt absolutely horrible like he did when he found out Carl died in season 8 but only a more Amplified version this time because he would have took Carl out himself after being pushed to that point, on the season 8 Blu-ray there's an alternate extended version of the season 8 finale which opens with Negan sitting at his table by himself reflecting on now having to take everyone out to end the war which is something he didn't want to do but was pushed to do because of all the chances and mercy he's given only to continue losing his own people then having his own people starting to betray him like Simon Negan then slams Lucille down on the table several times before heading off to give his final War speech.
Imagine if he hit rick instead
Yup, it would have gone against his own rules. No kids. He shot The Croat because he had enough of what he was doing behind his back, especially with a young girl.
I don't think Lucille believed Negan left her, I believe she felt she was a burden on him for her illness and his whole life revolving around curing her cancer himself with no medical experience once so ever, something very unlikely. I think she just was tired of delaying the inevitable. As for "Don't leave me like this" I think that's a message she left for him specifically when she knew he'd return
not that it matters lol
Absolutely, I was about to write the same thin, she knew he'd be back
I agree completely.
@@johnylaw3101why wouldn't it matter? It changes the narrative completely
Well no because no one knew that you'd turn even if you wasn't bit
The best way to describe Negan as a villain is that he wasn’t too far gone
This video feels like it was written by someone that hasn't actually seen the show, but has watched a lot of videos about it. There are so many things that are nearly right, but still slightly off. Normally it would be pretty easy to ignore but it happens just so much.
Negan saved the two things that Daryl loves. He saved little ass kicker(Judith) and Dog
I don't think Rick or Michonne buried Lucille. They just left the bat there and it got buried naturally over time. Realistically, it probably wasn't enough time for it to get *that* buried, but I think that is the implication in the show. If Rick or Michonne wanted to symbolically end Negan that way, it would make more sense for them to have destroyed the bat completely or at the very least bury it somewhere he'd never find it.
"Negan wanted to kill Carl"...the writers of this show are stupid that's all the explanation you need
I believe it 😅
yup, that is exactly it. There was no reason for Negan not to kill Carl at that point, he had committed to doing it. The writers of that show are fixated with going full circle, so they had to go back to a situation similar to how the first episode of that season ended...but with even higher stakes. Makes sense on paper, but since it is someone who Negan cares about and whose death supposedly devestates him, it was a huge mistake.
Taking a shot everytime you say "actually"
Checking in to see that you’re still alive after that. 😂
Holy crap.. lost count way early in. Hope you lived through that 😂
To me, it's just a little weird to hear him referred to as "Negan Smith", when for so long before that Season 11 episode aired, he was known as simply "Negan". I dont recall a lot of speculation about what his last name (or first name?) could be because he burst onto the scene as the biggest bad of big bads and his overall persona was so overwhelming that we didn't seem to spend much time wondering what would have been on his driver's license. After the airing of "Here's Negan", I suppose it changed how we see him and fit nicely with his redemption story.
Very nice video! A lot of character development for Negan for sure, he's def one of my faves on the show. Can't wait to see Dead City S2, as well as Daryll & Carroll, and especially can't wait for Rick & Michone in February!! 😁
What’s crazy is Rick is a cop I’m surprised he didn’t think to himself to figure out who Negan actually was. Also didn’t calculate how many people were involved he underestimated. Negan was smart to never do the dirty work but have others do it for him
Negan and CRM are actually similar in a lot of ways, both go after A's in groups.
Never knew they confirmed his last name as Smith lol
Loved the video. Very in depth. I do have some advice. Your use of the words "actually" and "does" are very over used. It was a little distracting and the words aren't necessary. Example : " the whispers actually do deem negan their new alpha" VS "the whispers deem negan their new alpha" . Hope that makes sense.
Thank you so for the comment i totally understand where your coming from and i am working on fixing that issue the thing is that i made this video off the top of my head without a script or research its all memory so i do have a habit of saying words repeatedly while im talking
i love rick&daryl but i think negan is the best character by far
For me it is Rick the best one.
My top:
1. Rick👑
2. Negan
3. Daryl
Love when new analysis TH-camrs come across my suggested page. AND it’s and hour, great video to sleep through, and finish tomorrow at work. Hope to see much more :)
Bro great video been watching for a few months now and I’m happy I found a channel that discusses on a consistent basis a show that I love and brings me happiness, thanks bro 🤞🏼
THANK YOU SO MUCH! IT HONESTLY MEANS SO MUCH!
Great video (almost through watching it) Brilliant break-down of Negan! I'm so glad Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays Negan, he's fabulous!
The main thing that gets me every time is when Carl dies & Rick tells Negan & the first thing Negan says is 'was it us' and you could see his face was genuinely sad. Negan can be an as's at times but he was genuinely sad.
Your channel looks great so you've got yours a new sunscriber!
Great video, i definitely would enjoy breakdowns of other characters in the future
It makes one wonder….
Would Negan have killed Glenn if he’d known he was the father to an unborn child…..
It would’ve made him look weak to back down in front of the other Saviors but if he is SO moral deep down……
Wow.. was not expecting such a well done and *deep* study on Negan. Negan is like a walking contradiction that I think is indeed why he's the best written character on the walking dead. Rick is always gonna be my favorite, comic and television... but damnit, Negan is so much fun to watch.
Well done, sir!👌🏻..new subscriber!
Thank you so much!
Honestly great video.
As someone who's Favorite character is Negan, and someone who honestly didn't really care for Gleen, (Abraham made me more upset cause he was my favorite at the time). It's easy to be bias about whether or not he's been redeemed. I, think he's been soft redeemed. Like yeah he's helped out a lot, and he may have changed, but that stain of killing Gleen still lingers with everyone even the fans. He's able to be counted on when needed but still needs to be kept an eye on just in case y'know? That's why Maggie didn't forgive him, but was willing to move on. That's why Darryl still doesn't like him, but has a newfound respect towards him for everything he's done. Least that's how I see it
30:52 negan has had that gun pointed at him before
He’s still alive
Good video bro. Negan is an awesome character. He's actually my second favorite bc the first one is Rick Grimes.
Great video man. Negans my favorite character too. Daryl is my second favorite so seeing them work together was awesome for me.
Nice recap. Actually pretty well done. Despite the actuals it's still Actually pretty awesome. Well done.
Great video, very well done. Thank you
Fantastic video! Negan is also my favorite in TWD. 👍
I have a feeling Negan and Maggie will be the ones to rescue Rick and Michone .The ones who survive will be the new main series .
“Actually”
I was gonna say the same thing 😂😂
Same thought. Just like the word basically...lmbo
Awesome video dude❤
Everyone needs to remember that Rick’s group did murder all of Negan’s men at the Satellite station. Killing only Glen and Abraham was an act of mercy from Negan.
Negan is the reason I watched the show. He did not disappoint me.
Negan threatened Carl's life MULTIPLE TIMES.
I was fine with Negan acting like he wouldnt kill kids, if they would have explained why he threatened to slice his arm off and beat him with a bat twice.
The arm was a bluff he knew it would break Rick after killing 2 of his group
My favorite thing about the here’s Megan episode is that Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s actual wife played Lucille. I think that natural chemistry really added to their love story and the tragedy of Lucille ending her own life
It's actually 5 minutes in and you've said actually so many times I actually cannot keep watching 😂 Jesus Christ
Still feels like it was forced down our throats. I'm neutral on negan as it stands rn. But the "maggie vs negan" concept was the biggest waste of time of the series
cause andrew lincoln left they had to do an overhaul on negan and make him have this redemption arc which i don’t really care too much if it wasn’t so apparent they were doing that just to make him a new lead after andy leaves
@@joeysmoot7608 In the comics Negan has a redemption arc and becomes one of the main characters for a bit too. It just plays out differently and works better, mainly because Rick, Carl and all the important characters were still around. Redemption is one of the central themes in the franchise, and Negan plays a big part of that, it's important for the story, I just think they struggled to adapt it with so many fundamental characters missing and leaving the main show.
@@xubikiltro5263 i agree completely. idk it just felt more natural in the comics. doesn’t mean i hate tv negan he’s still one of my favorites especially with what they’re possibly cooking up for the dead city show
@@joeysmoot7608 Yeah, there's potential for something great with the character in that show (maybe a potential face to face with Rick sometime in TWDU?) who knows, maybe the can still correct some things missing in his story...
@@xubikiltro5263 one of the things i missed most during the whisperer war was the scene where rick and negan get trapped in the house when alexandria gets overrun. granted they did that with gabriel in season 8 but it’s not the same. hoping for rick and negan to meet again
Great video
Lol she didnt think he left. She knew she was going to die, snd wanted him to have the freedom to run.
The amount of times you said actually actually makes this unbearable
26 seconds in and not regretting clicking this video as Negan is also my favorite, if he hadn't survived i would have stopped watching after Rick left. I just think Jeffrey is the best actor on the show and Negan has the best character arc in the whole show I think. Haven't watched dead city yet, but they better not ruin him
Lol let's all just reme rhay the life advice negan waa giving rhat kid was all about how to hit someone in the nuts. Despite rhat he delievered the advice with so much class and charisma that its still captivating.
When did you find out Negan was your favorite character, Was it at the first blow or the second blow to Glenn’s head?
Negan is one my favorite characters
You say "actually" in every other sentence, once I noticed it I couldn't unnotice it lol
She knew Negan was coming back, because, if I remember correctly, she leaves a note asking him to not leave her like that. I believe that she sacrificed herself out of love, so that, as she believed, he would fail to get the meds, yet wouldn't have to endure his failure as she faded away, ultimately "killing him, too." Just my thoughts, as flawed as they are likely to be. I appreciate you taking the time to read my comment. Take care and God bless. ✝️
my theory about negan saying he'd kill them all wasn't him actually meaning it but purely because he kept trying to help and prove he changed and while the distrust initially makes sense he risked his life multiple times to save them after they kept threatening him and ignoring his suggestions which kept getting them into dangerous situations.
maggie honestly annoyed me with all that and made me feel like she deserved how he treated her because she was acting like him leaving her was his fault when she would've done the same for him and she kept ignoring his suggestions which were proven to be the right choices despite the fact he didn't want to go with them but they forced him to
at least daryl trusted him enough to listen to him but maggie pissed me off by forcing negan to go with them before repeatedly threatening and ignoring him
He joined The Little River Band...lmbo
Here at 3.61k subs
Actually actually actually…if one took a shot every time you say the word “actually,” they’d be drunk by the third sentence.
Actually and do/does
I actually got 5 minutes into the video and actually decided I couldn’t actually sit through an hour of it actually. Actually, I assume there’s some good info in here actually but I actually just can’t man lol. I’ll leave you a like anyway lol
Holy shit! Actually, THANK GOD, I was actually starting to think that I was actually the one that actually noticed and that was actually so thrown off by it actually 4:42 mins in that I actually had to stop it. I’m actually really disappointed because I think it might actually be good content.
Your logic needs to work both ways. If he's the same old Negan he would have killed them all given the chance. If he is really rehabilitated he would would have either changed his murder and extortion racket before hand or if too late found a peaceful solution with Rick's group. He had the advantage, he could have done anything he wanted at that point. Sadistic Murder and slavery were just his preference given the opportunity
Best character of TWU!
That last name 😂
Buddy never heard of a script before.
Buddy, are you still there?
Im ready for my god damn skin suit!
Rick made th eoght choice keeping negan alive the group wouldn't survive on the later seasons with Rick gone
TH-cam Recommended
Great stuff, my only criticism is please stop saying actually. You dropped 20+ ’actually’ within the first 5 mins.
Yea im sorry about the the thing is that i dont have any script for my videos so the whole video im talking off the top of my head, but thank you for your feedback ill make sure to not repeat it in the future
@@culturecove you do not need to apologize. Ever.
It's very clear you're speaking from the heart, and I love that. Your in depth explanation, w/o a script is amazing. Please, do not think I'm trying to pick at you. I really mean it.
Criticism only helps us grow. And you're gonna go pretty far. Keep up the great work!
We are Negan
The word actually was used thousands of times
He gave him thee leather jacket
I’m 4:42 mins in and I’m completely thrown by how many times you say the word actually. It’s almost every other word at times. Someone please do an “actually” counter… not a drinking game, though…. You might ACTUALLY die. 😂
4:52 negan we gonna come back
Why did she write on the wall?
I AM......NEEGAN🏏
Stopped watching at 4:02... "actually." Seriously, it's almost as bad as those that stutter "you know."
Actually
STOP. SAYING. ACTUALLY. I'm 4:30 in and you've said actually every other word bro wtf
you said actually 7,000 times
I'm 5 minutes into the video, dude you're using the word "actually" in damn near every sentence, calm down lol
Actually?
Interesting video. But in the end, Negan cannot come back from what he did do Glenn. He destroyed Maggie's family, doomed her to traumatised widowhood and denied Hershel a chance to know his father. That's just something that cannot be forgiven. Especially considering what a beautiful person he was.
Despite all the good he has done, you can't really come back from murdering a good man in front of his pregnant wife and laughing about it. He should live in isolation from the group for the rest of his life for that.
Rick’s group murdered all of his men at the satellite station though. Negan was being pretty merciful by only killing two of Rick’s men.
@@flynnmiddleton7102 I mean the people at the Satellite station were robbing the Hilltop and not exactly innocent. I could defend Negan doing this in the case of Rick's group killing some workers, but not Henchmen
Even though she only knew him for almost 2 years it’s pretty silly that with her sister and dad she knew for her whole life gets over pretty quickly and Glenn she’s still sad about 13 years later so in that sense she should forgive him and after all the good he’s done now
@@forcelord9999 The people who killed her sister and father faced some sort of justice for what they had done. And she had Glenn on her side. She seemed pretty depressed after Beth's death.
She and Glenn were starting a family, and she will be reminded by her son of him.
Negan mocked Glenn while he brutally murdered him, traumatising Maggie for life. And he did it for no good reason what so ever. The saviors all got what they deserved, so I don't see the whole "justice/revenge"-angle from their side.
Just letting bygones be bygones and pretend like that never happened would be quite insulting to Glenn's short, but beautiful life. He didn't deserve what Negan did to him. He deserved a long life with his wife and son, plus all the children they could have had.
@@js1423 not what I meant making up a new topic in dead city it’s been 13 years since he’s death and still she hasn’t moved on when she did with Beth and her dad moved on in like a month I’m saying it’s unrealistic because she knew him only almost 2 years it’s been 13 years! And plus most of what you said had nothing to do with what I said making it sound like I think he was right the whole time and he did nothing wrong when I don’t and it’s pretty obvious I’m talking about S9-11 Negan mate
I think this character in the tv show went from the strongest, to one of the weakest. He became a shlog of boring emotion
Starting this vid with only contempt for negan, he ruined the show for with Glens death, I didn't watch one episode after it. I strongly doubt the writers could do anything to redeem him. Let's see if I care to edit this after watching
Edit: nope, Negan should've been in the group that was blown up by Daryl with the missile launcher. He made his bed, stained it in blood and made the world a worse place.
Glad to see Rick kill him.
Wtf, no explanation for him coming back from a slit throat?!
Spending time with Judith is just disgusting glad I didn't watch after Glen
Nope, unredeemed.
Oh look at that another death on his ledger...
He is a murderer, Carol used him to kill someone, that's not redemption
Can you actually stop saying actually so much? It’s actually distracting me from your video.
You'vee made a great video. I suggest you listen to it again and count the number of times you say the 'actually'
