  • The second part which I wanted to do originally with part 1 but not wanting to compress a video and make the quality go down I opted to separate. Contains useful tips you need to look out for as a current owner or prospective owner!

you need to change the power steering fluid using CHT green hydraulic fluid which will improve the steering feel!

Does the Automatic transmission fluid ever need changed?

Yes it does. Ford state its fluid for life, but that's based on a 15 year life expectancy. Every example is now beyond this, regardless of mileage it will need to be changed. Then once its done every 30K miles - a transmission specialist has recommended this to me (he's worked on a lot of these Mazda Autoboxes).

@@usuallyfixingtinkering thanks for the response 👍. I've got a 04 auto mk1 with 67kmiles had it around 7 months. Gearbox silky smooth. Checked the transmission fluid and its nice and pink. I will look into changing the fluid if it passes its next MOT in March 😃. Are the mazda gearboxes quite reliable then? Don't see much about them on tinternet 🧐

@@BigGent22 That's a good sign that its pink and at that mileage should cause little to no issues. Mines done 90k no issues so far in 28K miles since I bought her. I would bare it in mind going forward but no rush based on what you say. They are very reliable gearboxes, the Ford name is 4f27E search that you'll find plenty of search options. I've made a few videos when I rebuilt and checked the valve block and a few solenoids in some of my earlier videos. I believe the gearbox was used until around 2009 when Ford brought out the powershift gearbox, so very much a dependent proven gearbox.

@@usuallyfixingtinkering mate honestly this has been so helpful! I was anxious about what to do as being a old auto I wasn't sure it was justified spending on a fluid change, but it's definitely something I will keep in mind! And thanks for clearing that up in regards to the reliability of the box! I had the unfortunate misfortune of owning a ford focus cmax with the cvt gearbox which broke! The car was scrap... so happy to have a more dependable box on my hands ✋️ 🙌

@@BigGent22 very different kettle of fish the cvt boxes. That's no problem buddy glad to be of help. A final note when I changed the fluid in mine I used - Febi 30018 fluid!
