  • A few months back I wouldn't have gone near one of these, but suddenly they have disappeared, which means I am a bit more interested.

My sister had a Ford Focus. She bought it new in 2000 and she said I wasn’t allowed to drive it. I didn’t really care, I had a Honda Prelude. But then early one Sunday morning I got a phone call, it was my sister. Our parents had broken down on their way to Devon for a holiday and needed picking up. They had a Ford Fusion, one of those horrible Fiesta mutants. Anyway, my sister didn’t fancy the trip, and there’s no way they were going to cram in to my Prelude with all their luggage and whatnot so suddenly I was allowed to drive the Sacred Focus. It was all right I suppose, the thing I liked most was the feel of the plastic on the inside of the big door pull handle. It felt lovely, I couldn’t stop stroking it.
Today I’ve decided that having my hair cut once a month isn’t often enough, so I’m going every 4 weeks instead. I think I’ve made the right choice.

Bought a late mk1 Focus from my mum last year, gonna do some rust repair this weekend. Really drives like a deam for what it is, and that 1.6 zetec is a gem! Underrated cars 4 sure, but yeah check that rust b4 buying!

I used a Focus 1.8 zetec estate for 6 months on a Y reg, it had 50 miles on and had 5,000 when i had to swap for a Mondeo due to the miles. Used to travel from Dorset to Hyde and Burton on Trent most months for work really liked it and was good on fuel on long trips.

Great timing on this video, in 2 days I'm picking up an '04 Ghia 1.8. Had a 2001 1.6 zetec when it was 3 years old and loved that.

Interesting video, thanks; a friend of mine has a 2-door Mk1 Focus and it's a very appealing car; zippy and nice to drive with very sweet handling. Keeps up well with insane Los Angeles drivers in stupid modern SUVs. I like it a lot more than the 4-door (5-door?) version.

    • @karlwood2268
      @karlwood2268 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Me too, think the 3 door has a sleeker looking shape. This is the 6th Mk1 Focus I’ve owned, but the first 3 door one.

I live in Romania and in my country the Mk 1 ford focus is one of the most popular cars, that's because the car dealers buy them cheap from other countries and sell them here to make some profits and of course because we're poor:)) But still an amazing car, also, I own one, but mine is the long version Idk nor care how it's called

I had a 1.8 TDCI Estate Mk1 Facelift. Blew 2 turbos and the Dual Mass Fly Wheel Failed on it. I had 2 Rover 200's after that cost me nothing.

Yes the TDCis weren’t great, the earlier TDDi was more reliable, if a bit agricultural, no DMF either.

The TDCI was more refined but not a great difference with the Tddi to be honest. Both excellent

I had the estate version of this car with 1.8 TDCi. While not plush, it drove very well indeed and I liked it a lot!
What a fantastic dirge of a chord to end the video. Nobody could expect more after that 😃

I think that Focus is referred to as the MK. 1 1/2. It looks to have the updated headlights etc. The original MK.1 had the low and high beam in one unit utilizing a H4 bulb.

I needed a runaround on the quick a few years ago and got a mk 2 estate 2 litre petrol duratec £750 it's now covered 15000 miles and cost practically nothing.
It's done 140000 now and not showing any signs of giving up and by the way no rust.
I was really surprised at the handling even on its budget tyres.
It's been so good I think I might just keep it 😁

The Focus was originally a concept for a new Calibra by Bertone (I think). Ford tweaked it and voila you have a Focus.

I must be one of a very few people not to be too keen on the mk1 Focus hatchback, I liked the saloon/sedan and the estate though, I think it’s the rear end of the Focus hatch I don’t like, the interior was nice though including that funky dash.
The Escort was a fine car sir, had a mk4 and mk6, both good to drive and comfortable.

I bought a 2004 5 door pepper red MK1 last year (to be ulez compliant 🤬) I absolutely love it. I put an android Bluetooth head unit in it. I had to rework the original surround to make it fit. I painted the surround and dash clock surround in ford shadow black. And 2 weeks ago I repainted some bad paintwork on the front wing and I machine polished the whole car and it came up beautiful. I bought a reverse camera which I've set into the number plate plinth. You wouldn't believe it was 20 years old
