My question is why remove that film? Did you have to remove it in order to get the mirror out

I have the same car. Even year is same. I am getting p1457 EVAP canister leak code. Had mechanic do smoke test which found ruptured fresh air intake hose. Got it replaced but after 10 days check engine light came back with p1457 code. What could be wrong which we missed? Thanks in advance
