Step by step instruction on removing and installing a rear door on a 1997 - 2001 Toyota Camry. Also, important preface on disconnecting door electrical connector.
Holy cow in the first 28 seconds you managed to answer a question ive been searching for all day
That's great!!
Just trying to deliver information efficiently!
HOLY SHIT THANK YOU. Omg you have no idea how many people I had to ask in order to get a solid answer. I have a 2003 Camry and I need to swap all 4 doors because they’re all rusted and broken. I looked up videos on how to remove a door and the person either cut the connector or unplugged it. I had no idea which I would have to do for my Camry and I couldn’t even reach the cable. Now that I know this older gen is just connected with a cable, I should be fine buying new doors. Thank you so much
We’re so glad to hear this was helpful for you! Thanks so much for watching! Take a second and hit the subscribe button for future videos. We’ll be working on this Camry more in the future! Thanks 👍
1st gen Sequoia owner here, I can verify that this process is the same for me. Yall are life savers!
That's great! Thanks for sharing
Just made changing out my buddies Camry door so much easier . Appreciate this one !
Thank you for being so detailed in your instructions and straight to the point. Cheers mate
Thanks!
Update : bought two doors at the scrap yard that were the same color for 120$ and installed them. Only cost were the adjustment and perfect seal at the body shop. Great way to save hundreds if not thousands
Awesome video! Didn’t waste our time and straight to the point !
Thanks!
I have a 96 avalon and wanted to know how to do this . Thank you , now I’m more confident I can do it
That's awesome! You can do it!
Thank you very much for the video teaching us how to do the door change. It really worked for me to switch to my 2000 Camry's car door. Greetings from Tijuana Mexico, take care and stay safe.
Thanks for the comment, it's great to hear from other countries! Take care as well
From Tijuana Mexico? Then you probably also enjoyed the Spanish lesson at 5:00. 😂 buen video muchachos!
Lol, gracias!
That is much easier than I would have expected!
GREAT VIDEO!!! Looking to do this shortly & wasn't sure of the complexity - thx for taking the time to go step by step - God Bless!
Awesome thanks guys Thanks Joe for holding the door
He’s the real MVP! We appreciate the feedback 😁
I did not know it was that simple. Hell yeah. thanks for this video guys. You rock.
You're welcome!
The easiest way to remove a back door with one person is to open it , disconnect the door catch and wire harness, shut the door , open the front door so you can undo the bolts on the back door while it's CLOSED , after that everything should be undone so you can grab the door from one side and open the door while holding the handle and it won't fall
If you're removing a front door I would suggest using a floor jack with a rag on it so you don't take any paint off the bottom of the door, undo the door catch, wire harness, the bottom 2 bolts and the very top bolt leaving the 2nd bolt from the top last , while you're undoing the very last bolt put a hand on the top of the door so it doesn't fall off
If you're in a junkyard that doesn't allow jacks , take the fender off and undo everything like I said to do for the back door
That's a good method for doing it with one person!
Your comment is priceless. We went to the junk yard w/my husband and they don't allow jacks. And actually the door is sitting kind of high, since they put cars on tall support (old wheels and smth else on the bottom), so I even don't know if the jack would help. I was afraid to let my husband to hold that door, since unknown weight, and that door is sitting kind of high. We decided to come back w/a step ladder to support that door. But your method (w/removing the fender 1st) is so much better, I think. Thank you very much.
@olenaerhardt7725 His method definitely seems ideal!
@@olenaerhardt7725 I'm glad it helped ;)
I've dropped plenty of nice doors from trying to take it off the wrong way but I never have managed to drop or damage a door with that method
@@joegartner7736 As a DIY mechanic I did a lot of projects on our cars, but didn't deal much w/Body Repairs. I've straighten some bumpers and fenders, using Bondo, but in a primitive way, so all that PDR is quite unknown area for me, interesting though. I think to take a few Race Ramps to the junk yard to make a support for that door (not sure if that door closes completely). I'll see, thank you very much again. Sir, please could you tell, if I install a new lock on the PS front door (currently it doesn't have one), can I or a locksmith adjust that new lock for the current key we use? We have the lock only on the Front DS, and it would be so much better to have it on both.
Great camerawork!! Great info!! I'm going to do it EXACTLY like what you said. Thanks!! Great Vid!!
Awesome! Thank you!
What a great tutorial!
Thank you!
thanks! Sure made it easy (as can be) to change my dented Camry door!
Thank you for such a straight forward video!
Thanks! I'm glad this video helped you!

I’m getting ready to get a door tomorrow for my car, I’ll use this video to help me get it in
Perfect! Happy were able to help! How did it go?
Glad I found this...if I can wriggle wire harnesses out ...im home free....but I want to lube power window tracks ....they seem dry from factory , shortens life and keeps cash coming in for certified mechanics and parts. I got original keys....dont really need to mess with locks Thanks for sharing ....save me major hassles .Im doing a Mitsubishi but they seem quite similar at glance .
Glad I could help!
Awesome, thanks guys. Ready to head to the U-Pull yard now!
Happy we were able to help!
Beautiful
Thank you bro , now i do it with confidence
The only way! Happy we could help
thanks man
Awesome tutorial guys
Thanks!
Hugh Jackman and his friend are great Mechanics.
Who is Hugh Jackman?
Awesome. It help me to pick the right tools to go to junk jard to get a door from corolla.
We gotta do what we gotta do some times!
I might have to replace Corolla doors, was it tough?!
The doors are pretty easy to take off and swap
Thanks a lot. I will remove my door tomorrow
Thank for showing us how to do this.
No problem!
@@dudewecanfixit is the dog still alive ?
thanks for the HELP and INFO :)
No problem, glad you enjoyed it
Joes the best😊
Joe is in fact, The Best!
Cheers for this video
I managed to get the door open today. I think the handle had the rod/actuator lever in a bind. A lot of banging and prying bars and with screwdrivers worked enough that it popped open. Now a happy camper :) Thanks for your help. dm
That's awesome! Bent doors and body panels don't operate very well. Sometimes they need a little convincing...
💪
Thank you
You're welcome!
Going to attempt to do this on a 2024 rav4 should be similar thanks guys...gonna solo it but will utilize some jacks to help lower and raise it and support
An extra set of hands is always nice, but you can figure out the procedure on your own at least
Thanks for this.
LITERAL LIFESAVER. THANK YOU

dang thats the xle version of the camry. wish I could score one on a junkyard trying to restore my great grandads camry.
Keep an eye out, they roll through the salvage yard sometimes

Umm, its been a while. I cant remember what we did with it!

@5:33 Sir, could you tell, what is an approximate weight of that door? I've heard it is about 40-45 lbs, but my husband thinks it is about 120 lbs. We have 2009 Nissan Sentra, the door looks the same. Thank you for you film again, so many details, like that inner socket disconnected from inside. I saw another film where one person was holding the door in his arms while the author was disconnecting that socket. Your way is much more convenient.
Probably around 80-100lbs.
I was able to pick it up overhead
@@dudewecanfixit O no! I thought it is about 45 lbs most. But thank you very much for warning. They wrote me fm ebay it is 135 lbs w/pallet (for 2009 Nissan Sentra) and I thought that it was the pallet so heavy, but now I'm in doubts. I saw you were holding it overhead, but see different people can do different things. I'm so glad I didn't attempt to unscrew the door at the junkyard with my husband keeping it, no he wouldn't be able to hold right such a heavy object. Just support, support, that what is needed to handle this. Thanks a lot again.
Yes, be careful taking it off!
@@dudewecanfixit Thank you! Seems like so simple project, just 4 bolts, but that weight and the size of the door ...
Do I need to disconnect the battery?
Thanks for the video .. are those bolts really secure to hold the door?. Sometimes you need to grab the inside handle to support yourself to get off the car.. by giving pressure on the door .. will those bolts get lose? Or affect the alignment?
They do need to be tight. They are very important to have the door aligned correctly
Let you know tomorrow if it works on 1993 mercy grand marquis I've got two same year type so it should work. Thanks
I bet those doors are heavy!
If you change the driver car door do you have to switch over all the locks and the door handle?
You can switch the lock so the key works
wow after seeing this im seriously considering getting the door (its the only place thats dented) and getting a macco paint job for it , should i do it? hmmm
Of course you should!
Instead of taking all the little panels inside to disconnect the plug, why don't you just pull out the rubber grommet hose from the outside and take the wire harnesses out from there?
I tried it both ways, and the way that I did it in the video is much easier!
About long did this take you from start to finish? I'm removing all four doors off a 98 Camry, and I'm wondering how long it'll take me
About 30 minutes for each door to remove and install with a good helper
Can this process work for the 2002-2006 Toyota Camry XLE models?
It should be very similar
Gotta 2004 chevy malibu would this be basically the same steps ??
It should be similar, slight differences im sure
I like how simple you made this!! Thank you! I do have a question and I hope it's not too dumb but I have a 96 Camry and I have to replace a couple of doors. The local pick a part has several 97s that I could patch together a whole new body with. My question is is that realistic or even possible?? All the cars are Japan make but only mine has a sliding sun roof.
The 96 and 97 are different body styles. You will need to get parts off a 92-96 Camry or they won't fit
@@dudewecanfixit Oh wow okay thank you! I didn't know that and my backyard mechanic friend was just going with my request.
So a 2001 rear door would fit a 2000 model?
Yes, as long as its not one of the newer body styles, it will fit.
This also work's on toyota yaris 2007?
Its probably similar.
Will the extra door fit in the car or trunk?
Maybe, if you are really good at Tetris
But I don't think they actually fit. I transported them in my truck
Dude We Can Fix It thanks. thinking about getting a color matching door this weekend
Dude We Can Fix It update: barely fit in trunk with seats down
Lol, that's great! Should have taken a picture
Is it possible to still install a door but it doesn’t have a connector, I found one but can the connector itself be replaced?
If it doesn't have wiring, none of the electronics in the door will work. But you can still put it on there
fucking mint i cant thaank you enough for this video simple informative amazing
Happy we were able to help!! That’s what we are here for 😁
Any idea if this would be similar in a 2014 corolla
I'm not sure, but it might be similar
Just open the door and take a look at the hinge setup. If they are bolted on, then yes.
@@dudewecanfixit the door can't be opened . It was hit and is stuck .
@@dudewecanfixit any possibility the door panel can be taken off without the door being open ?
Hi, I'm trying to swap out my friends 2007 camry xle front passenger side door due to heavy rust below. Are the front door electrical connector same way pull and disconnect the click as the 1997 to 2001? Thanks
I've never taken a door off that model car, but it is probably very similar
@@dudewecanfixit thanks for the reply i will check it out with my friend. It might be just easy as this one :D
@@Leo-fz4qy was it similar? Need to do this on a newer Camry, 07-11
I have an 07 camry will the process be similar?
I've not removed doors from a 2007 model Camry, but chances are it will be similar
Would this work for 2017 Toyota mirai
I'm not sure, but it may be similar
No use
Lots of use
Help! I am late coming to the party but hope it is not to late to ask you for help. Someone backed into the passenger side of my '10 Camry and crunched both doors. The front one will not open from the inside or outside. Outside handle feels loose but by removing the door panel, I can see the rod is still attached on both ends and both clips are in place. Using the fob, I can hear all locks both locking and unlocking except the front one. Both cables are also attached and can be worked back and forth. I can also move the lever the rod that connects to the actuator about an inch or so, but the door still will not open. No luck even with someone inside pushing the actuator arm down and someone working the outside handle. Toyota parts guys even pulled out a new one so I could see how the rod pushes down on the lever and moves the lever where the cable attaches. But you can see it actually move because that side is up against the inside metal panel. I am at the point of using a saw. (not really). When crushed, it was up high on both doors and directly on the handle area. Need some serious help. Have replacement doors ready to install but can't get the front one open to get to the tapered bolts holding the door on. The back one is ok. Suggestion from anyone very welcome. Also as an after thought, will the tapered door bolts self align the door or do they have to be re-aligned professionally? Sorry for the long post but ... Thanks, dm
If you are able to actuate the handle and release the latch but the door will not open, the door is probably deformed from the wreck.
You are going to need to actuate the latch and apply more force to open the door. Maybe try kicking the door from inside the car.
Also, the door handle might not be disengaging the latch for it to open...
dudewecanfixit - Thanks for the quick reply. Been trying your suggestions for several days with no luck. Even my 6'2" son working the latches and levers on the actuator and myself pulling and pushing from the outside didn't help. About to decide the lock mechanism might be broken on the inside of the actuator and will not release. Hoping the saw is not the answer. Going ahead and replacing the back door today thanks to your video. Thanks a million. dm
