Carl 2000 years old, of course most people would hate them, this is not bold statement. And the world lives without Eldian attacks, so far 100 years old and were afraid to attack them, as there was a threat of a rumbling. We cannot confirm this, but most are sure of it. The thing is, no one is right here. There is no white and black, villain and hero. You need to know everything in order to deduce something. However, most want to live and only those who are ready to fight survive. So simple. The current world is built on millions, billions of corpses, they did not just die an ordinary death, many peoples were simply exterminated. There have been hundreds, if not thousands, of genocides. The world and the truth is cruel, he never intended to be kind and fair. It seems that people invented these concepts.
I find it funny that people only realized how dark the show was in s4, i noticed it from sn 3 if not earlier, there was multiple times where the show completely felt like there's absolutely no hope for the people in paradis and with every somewhat win, there were heavy losses, sn 4 just added more depressing to an already depressing show
Just a minor critique I'd like to make: the Eldians weren't in "concentration camps" per se. It would be more accurate to refer to them as "ghettos" because the Eldian Internment Zones were inspired by the Jewish ghettos that existed in many European cities under Nazi occupation.
Thanks for pointing that out, seems this script lacked some polish so I'll work to iron those out next time. Thanks for the catch though, that's a life saver.
@@tofferooni4972 It's very clearly a reference to Jewish ghettos. Japanese internment camps were in the middle of nowhere, not in the middle of cities.
Imagine watching AOTS starting with this season, you would think the show was about Marley training to defend itself from a distant threat only to see their leader get eaten by a monster and a sudden attack by armed forces, it changes the whole perspective of the show.
Marley get attack but they had it coming. well deserved for them and they actually know the reason why they are attack because they attack first Paradis get attack but they don't know the reason and they didn't even know Titan is their own people. Therefore they were slaughter without knowing the truth of the situation Both are not the same Eren attack because Tybur declare it first and it was self defense and also Tybur purposely blame Paradis and tell the world Paradis need to be genocide. And now they were shocked because Eren use UNO Reverse Card and Genocide them back😂😂. Poor Marley for doing this not realising it their own fault🤣🤣
@@SaretGnasoh it just still is trash everyone in marley wanted to kill eldian "devils" while they didn't even know anything abt them, they were brainwashed assholes who had it coming. eren and his family literally were innocent people they didnt wish death upon anyone let alone genocide of their own people like gabi. eren and his friends wanted to destroy titans not other people, they had no clue titans were actual people, they were mindless killing machines that were a threat to humanity. Paradise was NOT A THREAT TO GABI OR MARLEY YET THEY PLOTTED ON destorying them and killing the entire poplution. by sending reiner they sealed their own fate as a people. by wishing for genocide upon paradise they got genocide for themselves i have no symphony for annie or any of them. they still act so cold even in this episode annie justifies killing people heartlessly. Why should Annie be able to say that and be a "good guy " now after killing her own scout friends in season 1, while also trying to call eren a murderer for doing the EXACT SAME THING?? Like it makes no sense that they want us to feel sorry for Annie Reiner or gabi
I always felt that aot changed its tone right after erwin's death. During the ceremony when floch drop some truth bombs you could sense that levi's decision caused cracks within the military. And then we have party pooper eren being a while mood at the beach. The death of sasha really said, "oh say bye-bye to your comic relief!" Glad that we still have flashbacks.
AOT has been depressing since the very first episode. However, at the beginning there were characters that you rooted for to conquer the titans against all odds and save humanity. What's made the series even more depressing in season 3/4 is that the enemy has slowly shifted from faceless mindless titans to actual humans. At the same time, all of the characters you rooted for have either been killed, or have fallen into depression or villainy (or both). There's not a lot of things or people to root for anymore
Credit to Hajime Isayama for creating this masterpiece and fictional cautionary tales about war, racism, too much reliance on the past mistakes, and losses. It's already mirroring to the current events we're watching like things happening in China and North Korea. Even here in US had problems too.
@@decafjava8565 It's never gone away , always been some people killing people somewhere. It's sad but true . Yemen . Liberia , Middle east , Gaza strip, that brutal Serbian conflict. It comes off as bitching and whining that its not the generic happy everyone got married and had kids ending. Life isn’t fair, get over it.
Maybe cuz it wasn't, personally sasha's death didn't hit me as it seems to have hit everyone else, tbh i didn't care that she died but its probably cuz after erwin's death i pretty much didn't care or didn't like anyone in the anime especially those constantly gagging on eren's d.
@@ridgefrost tbh, sasha lived long enough. She was really meant to die and tbh her send off was better than the one isayama actually planned. I dropped the manga after erwin's death then came back reading it again when i saw the 1st episode of s4 part 1.
I'd argue the tone shift was in season 3 after they revealed to the public that there was a whole world beyond the walls and that they've been lied to for a century. Once the factions started forming and turning on eachother is when shit really started to hit the fan.
Honestly, it felt wrong to hear it in the latest episode where Floch chants it to the Jeagerists… and how people would use it to toast while drinking. Not really sure how to explain it, but it felt somehow corrupted. What are your thoughts?
@@williechanhimura986 OMG hearing Floch chant it made me super uncomfortable, it really seems like the phrase has lost value since Erwin’s charge scene. The value it held then and now is a huge difference in my opinion
@@williechanhimura986 The phrase "Shinzo wo Sasageyo" has been heavily subverted and distorted for the benefits of Floch and the Yaegerists, who they themselves no longer represent the spirit nor ideology of the original Survey Corps. Look what they did to Shadis and all of the original Survey Corps members like Pixis and Nile. Of course using Historia as a sacrificial pawn to lengthen the mere existence of Paradis wasn't ideal, nor was the plan on carrying on that burden of titan lineage on her offspring. But to turn their own members into mindless titans, not even killing them, but forcing them to exist potentially forever in this state of monstrosity and agony. Not even Erwin would stand with them if he were still alive. The term has been grossly misinterpreted into an authoritarian chant of supremacy and fear mongering, which has killed off whatever left of the Survey Corps memory there was.
@@williechanhimura986 that was the point of that scene, to make you feel disgusted and uncomfortable at how the meaning of such a proud phrase is twisted to match the fascist beliefs of the Yeagerists.
When you get fully invested into a story and it's characters then their deaths and sacrifices impact you really hard Especially with characters that you knew since 9 years ago and you got attached to them Aot was always really depressing is just that now our actual main characters die in a scarily fast rate and that's hard to handle as an aot fan
I honestly love that they can commit to the themes and nature of its setting. Them dying makes me sad too and were so attached to them but they're in constant war, so it's natural that people (and the major characters we love) die. To be frank, if no one had died, the show would lose a lot of tension and credibility; it would just become comical (DBZ lol). But to be even more honest, I know a lot of anime consumers would rather no one die at all. But I absolutely love this show. I can't wait to see how it ends. I stopped reading the manga after they got to the cellar which I think is volume 69 but I forget. So I dont even know how it ends.
@@SeaTactics I just look on in sorrow, and I wonder, how could they let this happen? How the hell did things come to this? Was this really the only way? I'm just begging for all of this misery to end.
Its an Avengers level threat indeed, and I actually do wonder how Marvel characters would handle tens of millions of marching colossal titans along with the Founding Titan.

@@ridgefrost lol It’s been depressing since season 1 but the anime community is so desensitized to violence, it’s not seen that way until things keep getting drastically worse to the point that we wish that they were the only humans left 😂 Anyone who disagrees, remember that Eren and all of his squadmates/classmates/fellow cadets were all being eaten alive by giants at the tender ages of 14-16

@@IncriminatedAntelope Don't read comments, some dude spoiled the end of aot under a comment and it kinda ruined it for me and you may get the same fate.
The shift in studio had a big impact on my perception of the tone shift. It's kind of like how the tone shift in the Harry Potter movies was done, where you can pinpoint exactly when it happened. If the studio hadn't changed, I'm interested if the alteration would have had the same effect.
As a manga reader, I can say that the tonal shift was evident in the manga too. But what I also find incredibly interesting is… Isayama’s art style improves drastically in the final arcs. So in some ways, both in Anime and Manga, there are dramatic art style developments.
Imo, I think Isayama helps push how dark the story really is, subtly at first, but big time in Season 4, is by having key characters who either showed a "path" to "normalcy" (in either a good or bad way), or a "path" to hope on either side of the conflict be eliminated from the story. Destroying that hope and/or normalcy for the characters getting focused on drives home how horrible and depressing everything around them is. I'm sure we all can think of which characters represent this (some WAY easier than other ofc, but there are a lot of them that do). And it all started being ripped away in episode 1....
This title is so funny: why is attack on Titan depressing? The main character is annihilating the entire earth except for one island and everyone is powerless to stop him 😂
Really great video. Many reviewers stay on the surface level. This show is the most honest critique of humanity and while its dark its nice to have a show that facilitates this thought process. I wish that more people talked about the messages and themes in AOT.
The analysis is on point and the script is well-written. On a related note, as an English learner, I learned a lot from the composition of your script. Cheers!
One of my favourite things was having Levi becoming basically incapacitated for a long time, nothing shows how brutal the situation is when even the worlds strongest soldier can get shot down.
He didn't get shot down though, he won his fight again. However, the story required him to be out of commission so the writer made him blunder and get hurt.
If you think about it, it is intentional. You can easily pick one side and defend your stance because each side has valid reasons for doing what they do. However, you have to commit to justifying these reasons, whether its for Eren to win or the Alliance to win. No matter what side you are on, people will always say you are wrong and thus, we as humanity can never leave the forest sadly.
And to think Marley, Liberio and the whole world is cheering and having happy times watching these people including babies get eaten and killed . Boi they got what they deserved when Eren pay them back with genocide🤣🤣🤣
The shift is really just the expansion of the world and the change to an open war against other humans now. It was the eventual outcome from the reveal in season 3, war is always depressing. It just shows how war can change anyone, even the joyful goofy characters we grew to love from the start of the series
I disagree that Eren was able to hold his own against the jaw titan. If it wasn't for Levi saving his ass, Porco would have definitely ate Eren at one point, and even Mikasa helped him in the fight
When Eren went to marley he had absolutely no idea about the powers of their titans. He only knew Reiner. Eren, being the way he is, decided to jump in and get the warhammer but didn't know it's actual powers so he was caught off guard. He was able to find out its weakness in a few seconds while no one else was able to do so. eren didn't even know about Porco and what his powers were. He attacked him out of nowhere, since that's the only thing they can do to actually gain an advantage over Eren. Again, he had to analyse Porco's abilities since he didn't know anything. In fact, they knew all about his Eren's because Reiner reported every last detail about Eren to everyone. So basically, information-wise they had an advantage over Eren, and they also the had more titans. Once Eren came to know about their powers, he finished them off. Mikasa couldn't even catch the jaw titan. She only caught him off guard, which isn't a big deal since she can't and has never been able to beat any titan shifter 1v1. Levi isn't that special either. He took on Annie in season 1 when she was tired and running away after fighting Eren, and he still couldn't kill her. He also broke his ankle to save that useless dumbass loser Mikasa. He fights Zeke in close proximity and wins because the beast titan is the worst in close combat. The whole survey corps literally had to be shredded by rocks as a distraction for Zeke just so that Levi can sneak up on him....and then let him get away. They're both useless. Eren however used Armin's diversion effectively and took down bertholdt, their most dangerous enemy. Eren always accomplishes the most and it's plain obvious. I see characters for who they are with the source material, using logic. I don't give a shit about the fanbase that Levi and Mikasa have.
@@raysacnewton6698 Thank you for this. Sometimes people make it seem like Eren is useless when he legit did most of the heavy lifting for paradise. Without him, Humanity would have ended in episode 7.
@@raysacnewton6698 Of course Eren accomplishes the most, dude can see the future LOL. But that doesn't take away from the fact Levi saved his ass and cut porco's jaws before he was about to eat Eren and retrieve the founder
Well, it was a sneak attack so does it count? If I jump on Lebron James with a frying pan from behind, am I stronger than him? So the fight reforms to a tactical one, which Eren still comes out on top since he arranged for Levi and Mikasa to be there as his back up, just like the Jaw was playing backup to their brawler in the Warhammer.
as a guy who just binge watched the entirety of the first 3 seasons in 4 days and s4 episode 23 before the next one came up.......AOT was always depressing lmao. maybe i just felt it more consistently since everything was fresh off my mind.
most people can’t even understand the depth of this anime/manga. i think it’s pretty realistic in the aspect that it shows how events change the characters as a whole and their perspective. most of all it shows how cruel the world can be but people can’t even understand that this is not far off from the world we live in today honestly, minus the titans and all other than that it’s pretty spot on
I saved up 4 weeks worth of episodes so I could have 80 minutes of kick ass AOT ending with the battle at the dock and Falco getting some action and I ended on Conny murdering his friends and screaming in despair. And now I’m going to bed. 😐
Eren has decided that everyone outside of Paradis is an enemy? I wonder where he got that perspective from.. could it be the fact he witnessed a “world” council declare war on Paradis? Marley wanted a World vs Paradis scenario with Genocide as a goal Marley got a world vs Paradis scenario with genocide on the table, they just weren’t expecting to be on the losing end
The thing is, at this point in anime (won't/don't spoiler what changed later in the manga) both the Marley/Tybur/Magath side and the Eren/Floch/Yeagerists side seemed to have "assumed" automatically that 100% of the world's population off Paradis, and 100% of the world's gov't's, sided with Marley. They all acted like every single person that was off the island (or not from the island) would think in monologue. Heck, some of the fandom, on all sides, seem to believe this to various extents. However, one country, and one clan from that country, seemly goes against this argument. The country of Hizuru (AOT's version of Japan), and the Azumabito clan/family. There's nothing in the anime/manga stating that Hizuru, or anyone from there, wanted Paradis wiped out. In fact, I think some countries had a grudge against for not hating Eldians (like they were doing). And the Azumabito, though it was initially done for their own "concerns" and greed, was plotting with Paradis against Marley. Of course, this didn't mean the island only have to worry about Marley. As the video pointed out some countries(some NOT ALL) treated Eldians worse than Marley. And when Season 4 started up, it was obvious some of them want every Eldian in the world AND every Marleyan in the world wiped out, as they blamed BOTH races/countries for their suffering since they were "dragged" into their war (thus declaring war on both, though they only attacked Marley as that time). But the instant the Azumabito clan wan shown, and ofc the instant Falco was shown, it became just as obvious that not everyone felt/would feel the same as a lot of the world. Finally, I get the 'you have to brake a few eggs' "argument" of picking either side, but can we not try to act like they were able to fit every person in the world inside Liberio?
@@wanna-be-thinker2377 they don’t need to fit every person in the world anywhere, that’s what world representatives are for. Eren heard the “world” council declare war. Heard the world council call for genocide of his people. If it had only been Marley calling for war I’d have an easier side sympathizing with the rest of the world but that’s not what happened.
@@philipforsyth776 Fair enough. And those reps., and the Marleyan JA's running the world thing definitely asked for it. Its just too bad Hizuru is one of those "broken eggs." Also, I (kinda) wonder what someone from one the countries, who didn't support the representative their country sent, and later finds out that because said rep. voted to destroy Paradis their country is doomed? Or someone from a country that didn't vote for the island destruction, and now they're doomed due to being out-voted because most/a lot of the "world" turned into moronic hate-filled a--holes?
@@wanna-be-thinker2377 how I see it. You can feel as bad as you want for most of the world. But I for the life of me can’t find any room to care about Marley or anyone representing Marley. Which just adds to how much of a chore this last episode was. I don’t care for Reiner or Pieck or any of them. I cannot invest myself in them. Then hange giving the speech about what she believes her falling comrades wouldn’t want, while disregarding what she knows they did want. They wanted a future for their people. That’s what they did want. The path she is on to stop eren very much spits in the face of the future they all died wanting
@@philipforsyth776 Hange disregarding what they did want? They wanted a future for their people.... yes but also remember that in their minds, their people were the ONLY people. They wanted a future for HUMANITY. I don't think it's a far stretch from there to say that they would have opposed genocide of most of humanity. I agree with you on the point that World Representatives set the table in motion of 'world against paradis' not Eren, they just didn't expect eren to have an Uno Reverse card hehe
Well I have another theory. It's basic story structure. This is the moment in the story where the main characters lose it all. Everyone has to lose everything and the audience must feel so hopeless so that when the victory happens, the audience feels a overwhelming sense of achievement.
I feel like the art style could have something to do with the difference between the mood from seasons 1-3 and season 4. WIT uses brighter colors and a cleaner art style for a more hopeful and lighter feel (yet still depressing) and MAPPA uses darker, more neutral, muted colors with a blurrier style to indicate an even more depressing mood.
Actually the homeland of the Azumabito clan is the best place to live if you are a eldian there aren’t any titans or marlians and they are treated like actual human beings
The world the characters inhabited changed. It was humanity struggling for survival against bleak odds, which left room for hope and a fighting spirit. With the reveal of the truth, that black and white story went out the window along with the hope that came along with it. Reality came in, and it was much more complicated and horrible than just beating extreme odds. Instead you’re left with the ultimatum of either perishing as the rest of humanity wishes you would, or unleash the unholy suffering you’ve been struggling against all this time upon other civilisations just so you can have a chance at having your own life. The beach scene is the end of the hopeful story. Thats when it “became depressing”. The truth was more complicated, and freedom required more than defeating the titans- maybe even a price not worth paying. “If we kill all our enemies.. over there.. will we finally be free?”
That's exactly what happened. Things were already 'real' for them as it was. Then it became *REALLY* REAL! They step out of one horrible nightmare, and into a more depressing and terrifying one. And Eren (obviously) knew that fact way before anyone else.
@@wanna-be-thinker2377 and he don't know what to do and can't tell anybody else is even more depressing. He even wanna try different path but they all didn't give him much choice especially Tybur
For almost ten years of being committed to watch the show, AOT will always be a masterpiece that made us realized the Philosophy of being Human. Reflecting and resonating on both the good side and bad side of human life and experiences. A fantasy that mirrors our reality, shared experiences of many whether it is about history, our present, and of what we might become or witness. Thank you Isayama, Wit Studio, Mappa Studio, and to all the people who made this show and be enjoyed by us.
Attack on Titan was always depressing to me, which is why I was never able to enjoy it. Having a tough and depressing life myself, Attack on Titan made me feel even worse. Hearing that it's getting even more depressing is the final nail in the coffin for me, to be honest.
eren used to be my favorite character and when he went evil i thought that this is so fake and then i rewatched it to prepare for season 4 part two and i realized that this was actually in character. he said he wanted to kill every single titan and to him the people on the mainland were titans. i feel bad for him but what he did is not acceptable.
How was he evil the world wanted to attack paradis on all fronts multiple nations. The rumbling was the only way. Floch yeagerist and eren was not evil its defending your homeland
@@aaronjeppesen5647 if you wanna look at it like that then the same needs to be said of the other side as well. They were gonna do the same to them. Using your logic that’s evil, too, right? You need to be looking at this show from an objective point of view. What would you do in eren’s situation? Just sit there and let your people get slaughtered for nothing at all? Just lay down and die? He’s no more good or evil than anyone else.

It's not concentration camps. Concentration camps were death camps/forced labor camps. These are internment camps, reference to both US and Japanese Internment camps. US internment camps were where Japanese Americans were rounded up after Pearl Harbor, and forced to live in these camps, They had to abandon their property with this forced relocation. Honorary Marleyan are most likely reference to 442 Regiment, the army unit made of Japanese Americans that fought on the side of the US. The US used camp newspapers, such as the Heart Mountain Sentinel, to tell them that they would receive warm welcomes on the West Coast. Japanese Internment camps were where the Japanese rounded up allied (as opposed to axis) civilians in areas they conquered and forced them to live in camps as well. These civilians all had armbands designating which allied nation they were from.
How a story changes from killing titans and swinging around in odm gear to fighting a war and actually sympathizing with characters we thought were evil. Hardly any anime that I know of can do this besides aot
When I watch the anime The scene hit me so hard. The sadness I felt on the emptiness was just so Giant I had to actually Have a few days of grief after
Imagine you need 12 minutes to explain this. It's simple: Mappa adopted the manga style. WiT on the other hand didn't, because manga art wasn't good at the time. But WiT came up with lots of stills, for the animators to work on. And adopted the characters into a better art style. Meanwhile Mappa had little time so the art is depressing but also looks like shit sometimes.
Sasha was the light of the show but I feel like if she still was alive she would have become a more deep character like if Connie died I feel like she would take more of a Nicole role then realize gabi is a kid and take a big sister role for gabi to learn from
@@TheAeroAvatar I just feel like her arc has more detail then Connie being alive if we go back to season 2 episodes 2 Sasha background was a selfish character she changed over time to a dependable person she would have hated gabi at the beginning and did the same thing Nicole did her dad would talk her down and tell her we got to keep the kids out of the forest so it would make sense for her help gabi because she want to keep the kids out the forest what is Connie motivation his mother !
A show that started about a bunch of kids fighting certain death against man eating giants is now depressing? I'm pretty sure our boy saw his mom get eaten in the first episode. It's been pretty depressing from the jump.
The one thing I really hate about AOT is how little world building the world outside of Marley and Paradis gets. We know so little about them and it hurts the story as a whole.
Something you missed is the lack of hopeful music. There's no patriotic, heroic, or joyous background music in part 2, except the final episode, it feels like
Ben, The Scouts directing themselves into coming into terms that they have to fight Eren, the protagonist of the show, or potentially to kill him, will be a very hard pill to swallow for Anime Onlys... and it's already starting. One Anime Only by the name of a TH-camr "StruckByBelz" has taken the Isayama's bait already. Sad hours.
He did mention that in the video, but he also mentioned that, storywise, the increased darkness, drabness and dreariness was already setting in (during S3, P2) before S4 even could start (let alone the fact this was already a dark story from the start).
The change of studios is a great move. WIT has done their part and now MAPPA shaped the true theme and changes to fit the manga which feels odly right imo
I honestly didn't like or care about Eren, Armin and Mikasa or any of the scouts from the beginning till the end, the characters that i liked and had a satisfying ending were Levi, Erwin, Zeke,Kenny Ackerman and Gabi , out off female characters i liked Historia the most but she became irrelevant later in the story and Reiner wanted to end himself on multiple occasions but Isayama didn't let him . Eldians have had Titans as superpower they used to conquer all countries in the past ,so other countries are right to be afraid of them as long as titans exist , it would be like if Cuba had a million nukes at their disposal ,that would be scary for countries around it , they wouldn't feel safe until all nukes are disposed off .
Well, I'd say Eren almost got killed by Galliard's Jaw Titan. If Mikasa hadn't shown up he would have been dead. And yeah, if you began to empathise with Gabi, then you didn't love Sasha just like her dad. Like wtf what kind of parent wouldn't want to avenge for his child?
A story that unexpectedly falls over and gets Dark instead of working towards the usually expected happy ending is of much more interest to me. That's the reason I am so hard into anime to begin with, I truly miss adult or philosophical themes in western media and unexpected plot twists in western movies... Good luck to my fellow german citizens who think Anime is cartoons for children...
you didnt notice the enitre division get wiped out at the end of season 3 id call that depressing. its a super deep complex show that needs more than one watch to understand.
Theirs is no way paradis is worst than Marley we sat and watch in 3 season how Marley throw devils at them come on it’s karma it’s Marley time to feel what they put the island thru
Marley is equal to Paradise. Floch is doing the same thing the Marleyans did when they regained power. Demonizing the enemy, justifying atrocities, etc. They are equal as mere humans. With flaws influenced by fear.
hmm i dunno.... does the beautiful bright blue sunny sky and fluffy white clouds and pretty light reflections look melancholic? I would say no. I think it looks extremely cheerful, which is in stark contrast to eren's demeanor
Are you sure The Rumbling is a metaphor to Cold Wars and Thermonuclear War? Because Indonesian(including me) think The Rumbling is a reference to Gog and Magog
It's pretty good symbolism using a micro/macrocosm. The walls are a circle and the world is a sphere. One colossal turns into thousands and "humanity" as Eldia was reffered to as turns into the actual world. What goes around comes around.

Just a minor critique I'd like to make: the Eldians weren't in "concentration camps" per se. It would be more accurate to refer to them as "ghettos" because the Eldian Internment Zones were inspired by the Jewish ghettos that existed in many European cities under Nazi occupation.

Harry Potter spoiler
@roastedtoast54 are you talking about when dumbledore is killed?
Imo, I think Isayama helps push how dark the story really is, subtly at first, but big time in Season 4, is by having key characters who either showed a "path" to "normalcy" (in either a good or bad way), or a "path" to hope on either side of the conflict be eliminated from the story. Destroying that hope and/or normalcy for the characters getting focused on drives home how horrible and depressing everything around them is.
I'm sure we all can think of which characters represent this (some WAY easier than other ofc, but there are a lot of them that do).
And it all started being ripped away in episode 1....

I can’t believe they made AOT darker over time. As we all know, the H in Attack on Titan stands for happiness.

Well, it was a sneak attack so does it count? If I jump on Lebron James with a frying pan from behind, am I stronger than him? So the fight reforms to a tactical one, which Eren still comes out on top since he arranged for Levi and Mikasa to be there as his back up, just like the Jaw was playing backup to their brawler in the Warhammer.

most people can’t even understand the depth of this anime/manga. i think it’s pretty realistic in the aspect that it shows how events change the characters as a whole and their perspective. most of all it shows how cruel the world can be but people can’t even understand that this is not far off from the world we live in today honestly, minus the titans and all other than that it’s pretty spot on
Season 1 throws the word "death" and its variants around more lke Kingdom Hearts throws "heart" and "darkness".
This series been ripping fans hearts out and making them grieve since the first episode/chapter, it just majorly ramped up during late Season 3.
Marley wanted a World vs Paradis scenario with Genocide as a goal
Marley got a world vs Paradis scenario with genocide on the table, they just weren’t expecting to be on the losing end

I feel like the art style could have something to do with the difference between the mood from seasons 1-3 and season 4. WIT uses brighter colors and a cleaner art style for a more hopeful and lighter feel (yet still depressing) and MAPPA uses darker, more neutral, muted colors with a blurrier style to indicate an even more depressing mood.
Actually the homeland of the Azumabito clan is the best place to live if you are a eldian there aren’t any titans or marlians and they are treated like actual human beings
Not any more....

Yes it is depressing and the writing of the final few chapters of the manga goes hand to hand.
things that shall not be talked
When I watch the anime The scene hit me so hard. The sadness I felt on the emptiness was just so Giant I had to actually Have a few days of grief after
I cheered when Eren started the rumbling. Marley deserves to die
Imagine you need 12 minutes to explain this. It's simple: Mappa adopted the manga style. WiT on the other hand didn't, because manga art wasn't good at the time.
But WiT came up with lots of stills, for the animators to work on. And adopted the characters into a better art style. Meanwhile Mappa had little time so the art is depressing but also looks like shit sometimes.
the rumbling is the equivalent of Madagascar nuking the rest of the world for it's survival
1:19 KING?
Good review
idk why i didn't sub after the floch video but this was too good
Levi has been.. "decommissioned" lmao that was great man.
6:33 I bet Eren trained in the Kobra Kai dojo for the attack
Big 800 💥
A show that started about a bunch of kids fighting certain death against man eating giants is now depressing? I'm pretty sure our boy saw his mom get eaten in the first episode. It's been pretty depressing from the jump.
It's always been pretty depressing
The one thing I really hate about AOT is how little world building the world outside of Marley and Paradis gets. We know so little about them and it hurts the story as a whole.
Something you missed is the lack of hopeful music. There's no patriotic, heroic, or joyous background music in part 2, except the final episode, it feels like
I was depressed as soon as I saw a kid's mum get eaten
learning the way things really work is depressing af.
Sad hours.
I don't know if I would say they took the bait just yet. Let see what they'll think about the stuff that's coming up.
Didn’t the animation studio change after season 3? I think that plays a role in the drab and dreariness of the season 4 animation
I'm talking about military tactics specifically.
Marley is equal to Paradise.
Floch is doing the same thing the Marleyans did when they regained power. Demonizing the enemy, justifying atrocities, etc.
They are equal as mere humans. With flaws influenced by fear.
this season fucked me up mentally, even trost arc didn't mess me up so bad.
hmm i dunno.... does the beautiful bright blue sunny sky and fluffy white clouds and pretty light reflections look melancholic? I would say no. I think it looks extremely cheerful, which is in stark contrast to eren's demeanor
Trust me, it’s going to get even more depressing.
6:36 eren be watching cobra Kai loll
Idk if there ever has been a tone shift. This show has always been incredibly depressing and grim
Sasha was not murdered. that was self defense
Fair point.
Self defense is a murder thats justified
"Why AOT is depressing now?"
When it was happy in the first place XD
Aot changed after Erwin and Bertholdts death. 2 key characters. I mean erwin was the commander and the colossal titan died
Hey SeaTactics I know this is off topic to this video, but a new 86 episode is coming out tomorrow, will you do a review on it?
Are you sure The Rumbling is a metaphor to Cold Wars and Thermonuclear War? Because Indonesian(including me) think The Rumbling is a reference to Gog and Magog
Great video. But the “maybe more then marley” comment about whos more brutal… nah bruh lmao not even close.
in the beginning it was Marley Colossal titan destroying eldia now it’s eldian colossals destroying the world
It's pretty good symbolism using a micro/macrocosm. The walls are a circle and the world is a sphere. One colossal turns into thousands and "humanity" as Eldia was reffered to as turns into the actual world. What goes around comes around.
8:02 almost thought this was gabi
" You can't expect a *happy ending* in a *horror story* "
- *Eren Yeager*
Why AOT is depresing now?
Me: it always has been
just read the manga ending, gave me A class depression
