McLaren Pre Sale Inspection

Whilst we would always recommend a full inspection prior to any McLaren purchase a good look over on the forecourt will be better than nothing. This video details what to look for on any McLaren to avoid costly fixes after you've bought it.

Great video! One thing about the oil level. There is no reason to walk away from a car with the oil level in the orange if it says “maximum”. It doesn’t mean it’s overfilled. It means it’s at capacity. Mine has been consistency like that after oil changes and throughout oil life both after work by dealer or independent shop. If it’s overfilled then yes, that’s bad news though.

Orange, yes, red, no. It's not a deal breaker I agree but it would raise questions over the rest of the car

is it possible to roll-back the milage ? no, i'm not looking to, but is it something to look out for ?

You can't roll it back AFAIK but some people buy those milage stoppers. It's a device that plugs in and prevents/slows the speedometer from working which then stops the odometer from adding miles. You can see if one is currently installed on the car by opening up the panel above the speedometer and looking for a device. But you can't see if one was ever installed on the car in the past. The best thing you can do is check the records for excessive maintenance. For example, was the owner changing the oil every 500 or 1,000 miles? Then that probably indicates the mileage was frozen at some point.

Im in the states. Is it possible to buy a car from uk (1 that thorny looked over) and are any left hand drive? I figure i could swap sides with used rack and dash and some tub work? Although the dollor is less then the pound that may be why they look less expensive in the uk. I WILL OWN A MP4-12C ONE DAY no matter what. I just dont want an r titled one and those are 50k verses 80 to 110k for a clean over here

The issue is that importing a car into the USA is not easy and varies from state to some extent.

@ThorneyMotorsport im in Pennsylvania..i need to look up the laws on left hand drive ( temporarily) and the state inspection we are required to have...im pretty sure itll already pass our emissions tests. But they just plug it in and read the computer

​@@jesvans Forecort means "parking lot" in british speak. So "forecort inspection" would mean inspecting the car in the parking lot as opposed to a mechanics bay car lift.
