Maybe it's the TH-cam algorithm but, when I get music theory, improv or sax video recommendations these days it's always; pentatonic scales. Can't tell you how good it is to hear Tom mention his thought about diminished scales. My first sax teacher back in the 70's knew Tom (or at least he said he did). He had me shedding diminished scales soon as I had all the Majors under my fingers. Back then we thought a wimpy five note pentatonic scale was for guitar players.

Thank you for this. Very cool. Always loved your stuff Tom, (I used to listen to it on LP back in the day). Still awesome. Making music fun not just for musicians but also for the audience. Huge respect.

Though, I transcribed his diminished scale lick from this video, I bought the masterclass and loved the whole thing. He has such a hip vibe. Plus the song he included lays well on flute!

One of my all-time favorites and inspirations to want to play the horn -- and though more into traditional Jazz-- responsible to listen to a bit more Jazz-Rock.

That is part of a class? It sounds like just personal opinion......

Yup, this is just a short teaser from Tom's masterclass which is almost 40 minutes long. And yes, all musicians have their opinions which is what makes them so great :)

They all have their personal opinions. Sometimes, you just have to ignore them, and just fucking play the damn sax.

Or, you could look at Tom Scott's almost 50 years of playing (look him up) at the highest possible level and learn a thing or two.

You should value personal opinions of people like Tom, see if they work for you as well.

@@edpolk1262 If you're not interested in their musical opinions, it makes no sense to study with them.Their opinions or thoughts about music are what have shaped their music.
And if you like their style of playing, then wouldn't you want to know what kind of thinking informed that way of playing?
