there is something very special with the 80s sound, so many many memories!
The Golden Era! Couldn't be better! GRP all stars. Love it!❤
I first came across Ritenour..70 s....the rest is history.....the collaborations over the years are priceless! God given talent.....all of em.
This is the best of contemporary jazz, GRP Records brought the best among the best…Tom Scott, Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, and so many more…miss my young years in NY
Fond memories, this is the soundtrack of my youth, and I feel blessed for it!
I'm so stoned and that was just awesome
Jazz is indeed, an incredible art form, and it's due in part to artists like Tom Scott , Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin, they were a part of my early cultural development in the 70's, matter of fact, the very first contemporary jazz album I ever bought was a Tom Scott LP (Intimate Strangers)...You know, the so-called mainstream media doesn't give the same coverage to jazz musicians as they do these commercialized clowns in pop/rock, rap and r&b, are these real musicians still active on the scene?
One of my fave soundtracks!
I will never get tired of their music. Dave plays sweetly yet profound, Tom is so funky even on mellow jazz songs!
The ending taken from the song "It Might Be You" is so wonderful.
Wow I love this one...
Dave Grusin - Piano
Lee Ritenour - Guitar
Tom Scott - sax
LOve JAZZ!!
I have spent years listening and playing along to Dave Grusin's soundtracks and CDs (the same applies to Lee Ritenour, Vinnie Colaiuta, Tom Scott, et. al.) and rather than trying to place this music into any specific genre, let it be said that this is not "Elevator Muzak", this is just a sample a great and timeless musicians who are always at the top of their game, and that is to make and perform music that appeals to just about anyone!, especially me!
What the heck?? Why are there so many people who disliked the video????
Weird...
Weirder still is, why do they ever bother to listen? 😮
More than 20 years i m listening this wonderfull title , i will always love it !!
Good point. I think that most people associate with the word jazz something darker, "clubbier" and more artsy. This tune -IMHO - is definitely too darn beautiful to match the definition above. So it might be labeled as elevator muzak by some. i donßt care. I love the mix of Irish and African American influences. Definitely Aaron Copland/George Gershwin heritage. Even always smiling Lee Ritenour looks in awe when
Dave Grusin plays that wonderful gospel-influenced bit on the piano at 6:40.
simply beautiful
Three of the very Best you'll EVER see!
I never get tired listening to this...
Just love it! Dave Grusin forever!!
Thank you!
Great line up super..
All of these people are wonderful. I love Dave Grusin's piano in the movie "On golden pond". This is a great video!
Extraordinaire Mr Grusin and friends..!
I love it…wonderful eighties….
this is a very beautiful peace of music!
It's Jazz. No doubt. These are some finest musicians alive for sure . In their musicianship you can feel the joy. Joy. That's what music is about.
One of the best performances ever.
The title of the track is "An actors life", and is take from Tootsie soundtrack
Why more dislikes than likes? This is soooo good...
Salut,
this songs really says it****
33 years ago ........
The 80’s had a renaissance in jazz
Time has taken us from that to this, and it ain’t pretty. Time flies too quickly. They are so old now… depressing. Wish we could go back. Tootsie was a riot. Our culture was so different too.
WHAT AN AMAZING STYLE OF MUSIC!!!
What a music! I love this instrumental music
Qué belleza de música.
Ah nice to see the good ol Yamaha DX7 synth...
Marvelous and classy 👍
♪♪♪ simply amazing!
As soon as hard-to-find stuff became accessible on the internet, I tracked down the Tootsie soundtrack on vinyl, and - when I could - CD. I still absolutely love it, and years later I still get chills at the 1:22 sax entry. Thanks for posting.
Very good
AMAZING!!!
308 dislikes....people you are
deaf? Please excuse us, maestro Grusin...
Thanks @Moraito to posting this invaluable track transferred from VHS thanks so much.
I agree totally with what you ve just said...
Jazz is great!!!
GREAT ARTISTS♡♡♡
I agree, this is jazz music. Nothing else.
awesome!
Out freakin standing!!!
I can see most of the kids today "Where is the sample button?" Awesome stuff
super talent♡♡♡
great vibe
I seriously think he has an enemy somewhere who's made 280 accounts because there's never that many dislikes in videos that aren't scam. There's no way that even "elevator music" (which I don't think this is) raises hatred that passionate.
I just ignore it. Although this makes for a good example of why no one should make a judgment based that dumb like/dislike system.
me faz relembrar quando tudo começou!!!!!
Vinnie!!
with some like this tune...hopefulness.thank to DG/LR
jazz is a broad genre of music. it encompasses all different styles of music. jazz is pretty much the music that society doesn't know what to call it so they generalize it as jazz
Never compare players and rank them as best...rather than Personal favorite.......also...dont forget Cannonball Adderley somewhere on that alto list and John Coltrane somewhere on that tenor list :P
Stupendi !!
Why all video about Dave Grusin got a lot of dislikes!? This song is a timeless classic.
Perfect "conversation" among 3 good musicians.
very good
nuansa musik nya begitu indah menghentak hati ... , gw suka banget lagu ini
DIOS existe!!!!!
jazz waves
i agree with you completely...though i am a fan of new school jazz there is no way Kenny G and Dave Koz could be listed with legends such a Parker and Cannonball...joke
Tenor Champ ranking :
1. Earnie Watts
2. Boney James
3. Kenny G
Alto Champ Ranking:
1. Tom Scott
2. Charlie Parker
3. Dave Koz
Charlie "Bird" Parker killed himself with drugs before he ever realized his full talent.
Yet, Sanborn and Scott have carried the torch for some time.
Someone has to make the "spark' before there is a flame.
Just like "Neopolitian Ice Cream"... I could not tell you who of the three I liked the most.
Depends on the mood.
Two players, definitely.
Love how they threw in some " Early A M" towards the middle. Wasn't Ernie Watts sax on the album track.
Troppo buono
Bennie Carter is the champ of all time on alto. Tenor, give me Sonny Rollins.
Maybe Grusin is best of fusion jazz artist in the world
after i saw the movie iwent straigth to the record store (cassete tape)
@kolson006 :me too, it is still the same as when I heard for the first time
I'm not sure I'd classify Mountain Dance as a pop song.
It is true that Grusin made most of his cash writing music for movies and TV though...
Musisista.con.mani.d.oro
why is there an appalling absence of sax work in films these days?
Tenor ranking:
MICHAEL BRECKER
Bob Berg
Joshua Redman
defenitly NOT Kenny G
Alto:
Kenny Garrett
Eric Marienthal
Tom Scott
did you do the Andy Williams show?
Why so many dislikes? wtf?
Can someone tellme the album where this track is from???
What do you consider shrill? Why do you think Kenny G is shrill? Is it that he dominates the tunes too much?
@telarc That'd be the 1-string guitar he's made his own then?
find me on livevideo too.cheers!
you have got to be kidding me. Serious? The problem with cool jazz is that it gets stigmatized as being lightweight jazz, and that is not fair. But at the same time, what kind of ranking could be given serious consideration if it has Kenny G and Dave Koz on that list? That should be the Lightweight Jazz Ratings... of course, that is the stigma talking. Some people need to open their ears and go back to school.
Tom Scott only good on alto, for tenor, Earnie Watts is the champ all the time.
*based on
Charlie "Bird" Parker second to Tom Scott?!?!?!...i think you need to re-evaluate and do some sax research...and if we are comparing new school guys how do you leave out players such as David Sanborn and Gerald Albright?
To eskimoposh: So many idiots, so few bullets. Your idea of Talent is your own rendition of Tip Toe Through The Tulips with a Kazoo. These are Kings in their world. You are a pale version of gummby who is bent by the will from less than nothing. Do not think about that to long, I'm sure it will cause even more damage.
BT Tucson p.s. Try harder, there is always hope for us all. or not.
Does Grusin has his piano rigged with some MIDI gear to produce those synth stabs? Or is it some other player doing it? It's way too in sync with Dave's playing.
Dude, you don't know good sax when you hear it, if you are dissing Tom Scott. Go back to school.
I'd prefer to listen ernie watts on tenor sax. He's much better than Scott.
Kenny G is a well MARKETED performer. He has skills on the sax but his music is repetitive. And it SELLS. I won't fault him on that. There are alot of better music makers than he is but it's all about who promotes him. I don't hate him at all, I just think his music is not that great.
nope...he had a super edgy mouthpiece....still....
Seems like Scott is a sell out with his short hair.....lol
Troll.
